22nd December 2019
It's a first week on top, and second in total some 6 years on, for the remix of Roxette's fab The Sweet Hello The Sad Goodbye, a Xmas tribute to the sad loss of the Marie Fredriksson, and originally a 1991 B side that has charted 3 times for me now. That keeps off a Christmas classic that I just keep coming back to each year, heartwarming as ever to remind me that the stress horror that is Xmas each year is for a good reason, Chris Rea's Driving Home For Christmas first made my top 10 in 1986, hit a new peak of 4 in 1994, and finally hit the top spot in 2017 its 13th chart year, and its 7th top appearance. Sparks enter with a christmass-ish new track with a fab theme for everyone. The title says it all. That's Sparks 45th year of top 20's, since they topped my chart in 1974. Doris Day gets a christmas top 30 with a 60's track, Andy Burrows is back with his charming The Snowman And The Snowdog song, Mud also return with their 1974 UK chart-topper which topped my chart in 1985 and pops back from time to time when I'm in a wistful, whimsical mood, the song was both a sad Xmas song and a pastiche of Elvis Presley doing a sad Xmas song, so its always mixed emotions a bit. 1 2 1 2 THE SWEET HELLO THE SAD GOODBYE (BASSFLOW REMAKE) Roxette 285000 2 NEW 2 1 DRIVING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS Chris Rea 115000 3 5 1 7 THIS IS HOW (WE WANT YOU TO GET HIGH) George Michael 564100 4 1 1 10 YOU AND ME AS ONE Sigma & Jack Savoretti 1210100 5 3 3 5 WATERMELON SUGAR Harry Styles 228200 6 4 4 2 ISOBEL’S DREAM Kim Wilde 120000 7 11 7 3 BLINDING LIGHTS The Weeknd 92600 8 7 3 8 DON’T START NOW Dua Lipa 418400 9 8 8 8 NO PLACE RUFUS DU SOL 234900 10 6 1 8 ONE SHY MORNING Amon Tobin 892000 11 21 11 3 THE NIGHT Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons 68500 12 9 9 5 BOB DYLAN Fall Out Boy 161500 13 14 13 3 DON’T START WITHOUT ME (2019 RADIO EDIT) The Fizz 88000 14 12 4 11 LIGHTS UP Harry Styles 482400 15 17 15 5 CAN I KEEP YOU Efisio Cross 95200 16 10 4 8 TOMIE GHOST DATA 340200 17 20 17 5 TIME FOR CHANGE Robbie Williams 72800 18 NEW 18 1 PLEASE DON’T F**K UP MY WORLD Sparks 22000 19 13 7 5 DO I LOVE YOU (INDEED I DO) Frank Wilson 201000 20 25 20 5 BURNING THE HEATHER Pet Shop Boys 69850 21 15 10 7 MONSTERS James Blunt 177550 22 16 16 5 CAN’T FIGHT THIS FEELING Bastille featuring Contemporary London Orchestra 97500 23 18 1 17 NOBODY ELSE The S.L.P. 1021650 24 19 8 9 ORPHANS Coldplay 258100 25 22 14 7 STAY HAPPY AU/RA 105450 26 30 26 6 EVERYTHING I WANTED Billie Eilish 70700 27 23 23 7 STONE Collard featuring Bakar 97450 28 29 28 8 THE TRUTH James Blunt 100800 29 53 29 6 I’LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS Doris Day 54950 30 27 1 15 DEAR FUTURE SELF (HANDS UP) Fall Out Boy featuring Wyclef Jean 895650 31 26 18 9 SYMPHONY OF YOU Pete Tong & HERO featuring Boy George 139500 32 36 32 8 WHAT YOU WAITING FOR? I love to see Roxette on top of your chart, I am ashamed I've discovered that track just after Marie's passing

Hi John!
Nice to see Roxette at the top of the chart, even though I've never heard this one, but I like "The Look" and it's nice to see it here gaining a bit! I also like that "Blinding Lights" is in your top 10! Great chart! |
