Who's got the biggest-selling Bond theme?
by Andre Paine @ Music Week January 15th Billie Eilish has yet to score a UK No.1 single, though she’s come close with Bad Guy (No.2) and latest single Everything I Wanted (No.3). But the US singer will be hoping to change that with her Bond theme for No Time To Die. Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007 is released in April. Surprisingly, though, Eilish would be bucking the Bond trend if she did reach the summit with her new song. While Sam Smith’s 2015 Skyfall song Writing’s On The Wall hit No.1, it was the first tune from the film franchise to reach the summit in its 50-plus year history. Here, we look back at the post-1994 (when the Official Charts Company began collecting sales data) Bond themes to reveal which of them has sold the most… Goldeneye (Parlophone) – Tina Turner (1995) Chart Peak: No.10 Weeks in Top 100: 9 Sales: 147,852 Tomorrow Never Dies (Polydor) – Sheryl Crow (1997) Chart Peak: No.12 Weeks in Top 100: 9 Sales: 155,664 The World Is Not Enough (Island) – Garbage (1999) Chart Peak: No.11 Weeks in Top 100: 10 Sales: 96,338 Die Another Day (Warner Records) – Madonna (2002) Chart Peak: No.3 Weeks in Top 100: 17 Sales: 225,936 You Know My Name (Polydor) from Casino Royale – Chris Cornell (2006) Chart Peak: No.7 Weeks in Top 100: 19 Sales: 316,543 Another Way To Die (RCA) from Quantum Of Solace – Alicia Keys & Jack White (2008) Chart Peak: No.9 Weeks in Top 100: 14 Sales: 261,481 Skyfall (XL) – Adele (2012) Chart Peak: No.2 Weeks in Top 100: 32 Sales: 1,110,516 Writings On The Wall (Capitol) from Spectre – Sam Smith (2015) Chart Peak: No.1 Weeks in Top 100: 17 Sales: 765,592 While older Bond themes' sales figures are incomplete, their post-1994 numbers are sometimes stronger than more recent efforts. Live And Let Die (1973) by Paul McCartney & Wings has sold 140,235 in the last 25 years, while Duran Duran's 1985 No.2 Bond Theme A View To A Kill has sold 125,610. |

Well spotted! I read the article and failed to notice that. Unusual for Andre Paine, his articles are usually pretty much error free as would be expected for a former global news editor of Billboard. Spectre and Spyfall pretty much start with an Sp and its a 7 letter word, I guess its pretty easy to make a slight mistake |

QUOTE Live And Let Die (1973) by Paul McCartney & Wings has sold 140,235 in the last 25 years. Any estimate for pre-1994 sales? Reached no. 9 in 1973 with 14 weeks in Top 75. Perhaps 40k? This post has been edited by ben08: Jan 15 2020, 08:24 PM |

LOL at Spyfall
Pretty long running top 40 hits there even in times when singles debuted high and dropped like a stone This post has been edited by SKOB: Jan 15 2020, 08:34 PM |

Anyone got a favourite theme? 1. Nobody Does It Better - Carly Simon (1977) 2. Licence To Kill - Gladys Knight (1989) 3. Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney & Wings (1973) 4. We Have All The Time In The World - Louis Armstrong (1969) 5. A View To A Kill - Duran Duran (1985) Andre Paine probably forgot about the Louis Armstrong song (theme to On Her Majesty's Secret Service) as it was re-released in 1994 after being used in a Guinness advert. It sold 323,000 copies in 1994 and was certified Gold (400,000) in January 1995. |

Goldeneye for me is the best Bond Theme song, next is probably Garbage's song
I don't know if Billie's voice suits the climate of Bong theme song. |

I don’t like Billie Ellish at all and was surprised she is doing the next soundtrack.

Some "nearly made it" Bond themes are better than the ones that were chosen in the end: Radiohead's Spectre is ultimate example of course but don't forget that Pet Shop Boys' This Must Be a Place I Waited Years to Leave was originally an abandoned Bond track.

A James Bond theme rate/survivor would be quite a good idea
