Wait, TOTD wasn't #1 right? Didn't it end up #2?

Wait, TOTD wasn't #1 right? Didn't it end up #2? Tears on the Dancefloor was indeed #2, however The Ultimate Collection reached #1 in 2011! Steps UK #1 albums: 90s: 1999 - Steptacular 00s: 2001 - Gold: Greatest Hits 10s: 2011 - The Ultimate Collection I wonder how many groups have managed two #1 Greatest Hits albums? I'll always be impressed that they managed #1 with The Ultimate Collection, considering it's not much different to Gold, and Gold sold 1.1m+! |

Totally overlooked this, but 'The Ultimate Collection' was certified Platinum on March 13th 2020! Meaning it has now sold over 300,000 copies.
It had sold 267,670 as of 28th July 2017, so in 137 weeks it sold a little over 32,330. That's roughly 236 copies a week. There is a chance its average weekly sales are lower than they might otherwise be because they have a couple of other compilations that could 'steal' sales away from it - i.e. Gold and 5,6,7,8: The Collection. |

Not exactly sure when it disappeared from streaming (it doesn't appear to be on iTunes anymore either), but I'm glad the album at least managed to get to Platinum despite this! The CD is still available on Amazon at least.
Hopefully their streaming has transferred to Gold rather than the cheap The Collection album! Gold is already certified 4xPlatinum though, despite not selling 1,200,000 yet (this is because certifications used to be based on shipments rather than sales). So unfortunately we're unlikely to know when it actually crosses over 1.2m. Last known figure was 1,131,168 in April 2017. |

Really happy the ultimate collection has gone platinum it's a great result for a rehashed greatest hits that was previously a huge seller. |

To be fair for what it was it deserved 25k, it was a cheap rushed album trying to cash in on everything else... TOTDF was so much more deserving of it's success (should have had even more)

The Last Dance had ruined it prior to the Christmas release.
Rightfully, the Last Dance has stronger sales. |

^ This compilation album has been removed from download/streaming! This means that anyone streaming their singles will only contribute to 'Gold' sales from now on, which is pleasing. It also means that in their "Popular" 10 songs section, those songs now display their studio album artwork rather than 'The Collection' artwork. It looks much better. The only loss from The Collection's removal is that the W.I.P. remix of 'Mars and Venus (We Fall in Love Again)' is no longer available to stream. Which is quite funny because prior to February it was the only version of it online, until the original album version was added to The Last Dance, which is now the only version instead! Someone on their team has seemingly been busy with updating and tidying their albums on streaming. For instance their Steptacular and Buzz album release years have been corrected to 1999 and 2000 respectively. Up until earlier this year Buzz said 1999 and Steptacular said 2000! |

This is a good move, this is a good collection for a cheap price to be fair but Gold is the official release and it would be better to see the sales go to that. Long shot but has this collection sold much or did it chart on the budget chart at anytime.

The Ultimate Collection was also official too? But with Gold being expanded it covers everything nicely. Had a listen yesterday and still thoroughly enjoy their singles back catalogue. Itching for some new stuff though

Both Gold and the Ultimate Collection have experienced great success and this move will aid that further.

Ultimate collection going number 1 was great and its almost platinum aswell which is really good when gold sold so big. Tears on the dancefloor done very well for them and I liked how they really put in the effort to push the album. I hope they do the same again when the new album is released.
