It's been 5 years since the video release for 'Ghosttown', the second single to be taken from Rebel Heart. This haunting ballad depicts an apocalyptic world where love is all the survivors have to hold on to, a powerful and relevant message of hope that can be applied to any time of loss and defeat. Whilst the song was only a minor hit in Europe, it was recognised by fans and critics alike as one of her best in recent times, best illustrated by being voted Best Song of 2015 by Rolling Stone readers. Madonna joined forces with longtime collaborator Jonas Åkerlund for the music video to bring the story of the song to life. Much like the song, it was considered her best visual in a decade. 5 years on, what are your thoughts and memories of this single? |

What a song I wish this had been the album's lead single. Imagine if she did this at the Brits!

One of her best of the decade, for sure! Love the concept and Madonna's delivery is powerful and engaging. It has a classic Madonna feel but its also well-suited to contemporary tastes.

Since you mentioned this in the Ultimate Madonna Results thread last year, this idea has really taken off in my head and I really wish it had been! I think the reception would have been really positive had she sung this at the BRITs as it's so different to what modern audiences are used to from Madonna, as well as the fact she sings it so well. Imagine the iHeart performance with Taylor at the BRITs! |

It is definitely her best single this side of Confessions, such a shame it was released at a point in her career where it didn't stand a chance of doing anything.

Exactly!! Ugh and to think, the follow up to this masterpiece was 'Bitch I'm Madonna' :/ She makes it so hard for us sometimes I suppose it was inevitable we'd get a visual for 'Bitch I'm Madonna' and it does its job, but it's cheapened by the separately added cameos. It would have been better if they were actually on set and would have made a bit more sense as to why they appear; the end result just makes it look like a desperate attempt to out-do Taylor Swift's 'Bad Blood', which got the execution and the message spot on. Definitely didn't help that it was hyped so much. |

Love this song! I got to see her perform this on the Jonathan Ross show (including a couple of retakes), and it remains a highlight for me. On that same show, my BFF got to ask her a question too, which was really cool.
