I don’t know the answer but my initial thoughts were maybe a Christmas song or a charity single that has been used many times over.

Does anyone know what the most covered / sampled song is to feature in the UK charts?

The song sampled in Supermode - Tell Me Why seems to be in a lot of things.

I'm going to guess it's Unchained Melody which has been a chart hit for:
Liberace 1955 (20)
Robson & Jerome 1995 (1)
Gareth Gates 2002 (1)

That’s a pretty decent shout actually. I can’t see much else beating that. Does it mean we are due another a cover single in the near future or was Gareth Gates the final artist to make use of it I wonder.

Good Times by Chic has been sampled in 205 songs, according to who sampled. I haven't checked how many of them charted, and a fair few are lesser known remixes which may not even have appeared on their single releases, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are at least 10 where it appears in the main version which charted.

"Love Sensation" by Loleatta Holloway is one of the most sampled tracks ever and a lot of tracks sampling it charted. The ones I remember or could find:

Black Box - Ride On Time
Marky Mark - Good Vibrations
Chase & Status - Blind Faith
Love Sensation (Freemasons 2006 Remix)
Eddie Thoneick & Kurd Maverick - Love Sensation 2006
Sway - Still Speedin
Fisher - You Little Beauty
Cevin Fisher - (You Got Me) Burnin Up
Cappella - Take Me Away
Lenny Fontana & DJ Shorty - Chocolate Sensation

and I'm sure there's plenty more

Yeah I think I once read somewhere it's 'Unchained Melody' if we're talking about the song that has charted for the most different number of artists (it's also been number one by four different artists which I believe is a record). I also read somewhere that 'Yesterday' is the most covered song in history.

Why do I think it's Hallelujah or Amazing Grace?

The Winstons' 'Amen, Brother' is essentially the basis for the entire genre of drum n bass so I'd guess it would be that (it's only a sample of a 6 second drum loop but still)

Not even close. Only two versions have ever charted, The Beatles and Ferry Aid.

I read that too, I think it could be recognised by Guinness World Records. Funny as, until a couple of years back, I hadn't even heard the original, never mind any covers.

I don't even think it's anywhere near The Beatles' best work.

Natasha & Daniel Bedingfield sang at the Brits too. And their version was released as a B-side to Natasha’s single “I Bruise easily” in 2005
