The first two singles are perfect, I just wish Dangerous Game and Automatic Love came next

Such a weird album for me.

I loved and still do ‘Confide In Me’ and ‘Put Yourself In My Place’ but the album is a bit hit and miss overall - you can tell Kylie is trying to find her style and new direction.

PYIMP is way up there as one of my favourites Kylie singles - tragic that it stalled at the dreaded #1 spot drama.gif

Now for my KM94 review =

Confide In Me
The new Kylie sound starts here with this one song and something completely different to what she's done before, this mixture of dance/indie-pop/trip-hop sounds goes against everything that Kylie's done before and while it can take some getting used to (even to some of the more hardened Kylie fans), It really draws you in with some brilliant production and some wonderful arrangement, as well as some eastern influences and twangs are intermixed with a full string orchestra and haunting vocals from Kylie herself, hitting notes and taking her voice places it had never been before. Creating something well and truly epic and of course this had to be the lead single as nothing else would have worked to this level. A truly unforgettable moment that opened a whole new chapter and a rebirth.

Surrender
This is again different with some breathy sexy vocals and some seductive lyrics and along with a nice 90's dance beat running throughout. A very decent album track and an interesting style for Kylie to take.

If I Was Your Lover
Picking up the pace with this more funky and harder edged dance sound that further showcases Kylie's new diversity, with some more breathy and saucy vocals, and there's even a slight hint of a classy R&B sound, that therefore creates one of the most interesting songs on this album as well as some great production by Jimmy Harry and perhaps could have made a great single choice, as its a definite standout moment on here.

Where Is The Feeling
The 3rd single and final single, released 8 months after the last and completely revamped from the version that sits here. Again this uses that typical 90's dance sound and a lot more pop sounding that we've heard so far. Its light and quite fun and bounces along at an okay pace, but at nearly 7 minutes long, this can be a bit of a slog to get through.

Put Yourself In My Place
Needle scratching opens up this next track, and then some electric guitars, some superb keyboards and synthesizers laden this down tempo number and build to an awesome chorus. This was the album's 2nd single and a definite spot on choice, with its very classy and stylish sound and some fantastic powerful vocals from Kylie throughout, this has to be one of the greatest songs she has ever recorded, and of course that amazing music video that again has to be one of her best. Truly outstanding song and video.

Dangerous Game
Another great track now that begins with some tender vocals and then a crescendo of intense, solid, power vocals with superb string accompaniment. With production from Brothers In Rhythm, this is yet another great example of Kylie leaving behind the past and taking herself and her voice in new and ‘dangerous’ directions.

Automatic Love
After two ballads the pace picks up with this classy little number, complete with strings and great drum beat. Yet again, Kylie’s voice is outstanding and despite some questionable lyrics that I would have to say are pretty advanced for '94 and makes for a very memorable track, this is dare I say it, yet another standout moment.

Where Has The Love Gone
A very chilled dance anthem that's nearly 8 minutes long and definitely outstays its welcome, but Kylie's vocals are soulful and commanding on this track, even if it is one of the weaker moments on here.

Falling
Again I wouldn't rank this as one of the album's stronger moments, but this does have a nice chilled dance beat and a hypnotic rhythm, and plus thanks to The Pet Shop Boys there is some great writing on here, but find the production doesn't really connect with the concept of the track, just sounding very generic, over-long and very filler-ish.

Time Will Pass You By
Closing the album on an almighty bang, after a couple of fillers we get a gorgeous uplifting dance anthem and along with Kylie's joyful vocals as she advises us to enjoy every moment of life, and she really sells it with some wonderful production by M People, as this has that definite feel of one of their songs, but Kylie does manage to put her own stamp on it and its just great. This was scheduled to be a single, but sadly never happened, as this could have definitely breathed new life into this era, and imagine a cracking music video to go along with it, then this could have easily been another firm Kylie classic.

An album of two halves for me. I love confide in me, put yourself in my place, dangerous game, if I was your lover, automatic love and time will pass you by. The rest aren’t great. The jap bonus track love is waiting was also good!

Totally this - parts of the album verge on the some of the best work she’s produced whilst others are album fillers or b-sides at best.

It has parallels to X with varied sound qualities.
The promotion of the album needed greater execution to keep it moving on the market.
Kylie's unavailability couldn't have come at a worse time.
This album needed a strong quick 4 single, well planned strategy but in reality it didn't come close.

If you were to recommend one song to persuade someone to listen to to get them into the album what song would it be and cant be a single.

"Time Will Pass You By" of course, this would have made an EPIC! single

This album has her absolute best vocals on it. wub.gif

I love 'Automatic Love', 'Dangerous Game', 'Surrender' and 'If I Was Your Lover' (her vocals on this sound insane, and I could feasibly see it being a 90s Janet Jackson song).

'Where Has The Love Gone' literally goes on forever and nothing ever happens in it.

My Singles Run for this album would have been =

AUG '94 - "Confide In Me"
NOV '94 - "Put Yourself In My Place"
MAR '95 - "If I Was Your Lover"
JULY '95 - "Time Will Pass You By"

This era could have been way more successful with this run, the big mistake was waiting 8 months to release the 3rd single, I know she was busy at the time, but surely the label could have found time to release something in the early months of 1995 & release something which could have breathed new life into the album & then release the outstanding 'TWPYB' in the summer & closed the era with an almighty bang.

I would have definitely chosen either 'Automatic Love' or 'Dangerous Game' as 3rd single.

The 8 month gap was a huge mistake during this period which was made worse by selecting one of the more disappointing songs to serve as that 3rd release.
The era required a more focused, concentrated solid approach with no room for error.
It was a crossover period in Kylies career which should have been handled to a much higher standard.
