Lana Del Rey has confirmed her upcoming 7th album (previously said to be titled 'White Hot Forever', though I imagine that may change) will be released on September 5th in an Insta post which also dismisses. claims that her lyrics “glamorize abuse”.

It's hard to be excited about this album after reading that.
Commenting on (mostly) black women and using their sexuality against them with problematic rhetoric — only to tie it into some gibberish point before announcing her new album. Lana just had the critically acclaimed album of 2019 — this was completely unnecessary and disappointing. |

I didn't read it as an attack on those artists at all? Just that everyone should be able to create the music they want. Can't deny it all sounds pretentious though.

I’m not completely sure I get her point? All the artists she mentioned get shit constantly for their sexuality, If anything I’d argue Lana gets the least hate for her lyrics and what’s she’s saying out of the majority of people she mentioned
Anyway she completely lost me when she said “I’m not a feminist” in the year 2020. I’m a fan of her music but I can’t really say I’m a fan of her |

I get her point that she is fed up of being said to 'glamourise abuse', it is just badly worded. Mentioning any other names brings up both a direct comparison between them and a whole fanbase who will see this as an attack before anything else.
She does come across as having a 'better than' opinion of those artists but I read it as - if there's a place for these artists to have success, why not me? I do think the whole post is unnecessary and probably should have been left in the drafts or her diary as on the face of it she is a very successful album artist even if these comments are still being said. Also @LMLou she said she is 'not not a feminist' meaning that she is a feminist. The fact that two-thirds of those artists are black of course will get nit-picked, but isn't that just a demonstration of the success black female artists are able to have in 2020? |

I can't claim to be a huge Lana fan but on first read I just thought it was stan twitter doing the most but going over it again I don't see how she can compare lyrics about abuse to those girls? Like she might have a smidgeon of a point if she hadn't dropped those names. Really queen?

The artists that actually benefit from showing their bodies, being sexual etc — without any shame attached, are men. 6ix9ine is more successful than ever — even after paedophilia charges. There is a point there somewhere about the industry and the double-standards in music, but she missed it.

What was she thinking with this...wrong on so many levels. So disappointing.
I agree there is a point to make about double standards in the industry but this is most definitely not it. It just comes across as so self-righteous and ignorant. |
