Damn. Only You Freestyle smashing at #2. Pleasantly surprised. Good for Headie One, I think his 'GANG' project earlier this year was an excellent one.
GREECE doing better than Popstar is surprising, the latter sounded like the surefire hit. Guess you can't predict these things |

I was bored so I thought I'd look at where certain albums were on the OCC Albums streaming chart compared with the Apple Music one that supposedly actually measures how many people are streaming the albums and the fact no one is streaming some of these top 40 streaming albums
Mabel - #7 on Official Albums Streaming Chart / Below #1500 on AM Album Chart Ed Sheeran [No.6 Collabs project] - #8 / #40 Elton John [Diamonds] - #9 / #261 Queen [Greatest Hits] - #11 / #110 Becky Hill - #13 / Below #1500 Post Malone - #14 / #58 Dua Lipa [Dua Lipa] - #17 / #207 Eminem [Curtain Call] - #19 / #206 Jax Jones - #21 / Below #1500 Fleetwood Mac [Rumours] - #26 / #75 The Beatles [1] - #32 / #493 Billie Eilish [Don't Smile At Me] - #35 / #152 Ed Sheeran [X] - #38 / #160 Jason Derulo [Platinum Hits] #39 / Below #1500 Surely they're gonna do something about this? I know the average person has absolutely no awareness of obscure positions on the albums chart but for those who do follow the chart in 2020 it is highkey ridiculous lmao. |

we should send this list to James Masterson, he's been critical about how album are c counted now too
wow wasn't expecting Headie One/Drake to hit #1, it's a pity kworb doesn't have figures, but at least they could have percentages like kworb has for iTunes... |

Will it be top ten on Official Chart even with half a week? Impressive!
Popstar seems to be the one struggling of these Drake tracks, which is surprising given it's the most promoted one. This post has been edited by SKOB: 22nd July 2020, 10:20 AM |

POPSTAR is absolutely dreadful so I am glad it is not doing well. GREECE is so much better.
Interesting to see Only You Freestyle at #1. I really like it as well. |

so I think the Headie One/Drake song has already done enough to be top 40 come Friday
and could be top 10 if they keep the same streams tomorrow |

Meanwhile Headie x Drake are only #71 on US Spotify, with over 200k less streams than in the UK despite the bigger population. I guess not even Drake can give a UK drill rapper a proper US hit then, ah well.
Popstar also is doing a fair bit better than Greece there, #4 to #13, seems to be just the UK who prefer Greece for whatever reason. |

well Greece is #1 on Rap Caviar, which might explain why it's doing better
Joel Corry/MNEK did 523K yesterday which is a lot for a dance track |

Also how it did 600K in a middle of the week with no promo on Spotify or Playlists support? no NMF of course. shocked.

I think it's more music style than being male/female If it's a rap it's a hit, it it's pop it's a flop there's great pop songs by males also flopping like the new James Bay which is all kinds of amazing but it's flopping cos it's not rap, not cos male/female imho Dance is also doing well as a genre and there are not single one female producers having hits, which is super sad too. Glad females are usually credited as singers at least. Yes it is weird that a faceless new producer or the latest London rapper can easily get a top 10 hit but singers of mainstream pop songs really struggle. Also frustrating that many of the new acts from all genres who do well can only manage a handful of hits before they're deemed over.. one mis-step and you're finished. |

I think this is the first UK drill song to get to #1 on Spotify then! Not surprised at it getting there on Apple but I wasn't quite sure if it would manage it on Spotify too, was expecting more like ~#3 or so (it debuting at #37 from its first 3 hours of streams was a good sign of course but that could easily have already soaked up a lot of people just streaming it once out of curiosity).
It has actually already dropped back down to #2 on Apple, so I don't think it would have been contending for overall #1 even if it had dropped on Friday, but should have a good shot at giving Headie his first top 5 hit at least. Meanwhile Headie x Drake are only #71 on US Spotify, with over 200k less streams than in the UK despite the bigger population. I guess not even Drake can give a UK drill rapper a proper US hit then, ah well. I'm sure it would have been much higher if the credits on it had been reversed tbf, a Headie One song hitting as high as #71 on US Spotify is still pretty mad considering how little interest the States have ever had in British rap. (Also Headie does at least already have a fairly big hit there with 'Don't Rush' - Young T & Bugsey confirmed bigger in the US than Drake?? etc. ) Doing better on Apple in the US as well (#32). And it's as high as #38 on global Spotify! well Greece is #1 on Rap Caviar, which might explain why it's doing better Rap Caviar is the most influential hip-hop playlist in the US as well! Also 'POPSTAR' is still the higher track on US Apple Music too, while 'GREECE' is now the higher song on all of the major platforms in the UK, I think it's clear that 'GREECE' is just appealing more to the UK audience for whatever reason. |
