Another example I remember is Drake's "Emotionless" debuting and number 4 which ended up being its only week in top 100.

ACR is absolutely needed in some form I just wish it was a bit more incremental, though after 3 years I've got a bit used to the big unnatural drops.
and I think some re-jigging needs to be done to the rules to prevent more 'The City' and 'Flowers' cases of songs lingering in the top 40 for far longer than they should cos they randomly spike a little bit long after they've peaked. I'd also suggest that if a song is ever in the top 3 of an artist cap it doesn't get starred out later to stop another ridiculous case of 1-2-xx-4, until it is moved onto ACR (though I appreciate we've had very few of those in the top regions) |

My suggestion is that ACR comes in when a song drops below (say) 70% of its peak streams. Then to get a re-set it would have to get back above (say) 80% of its peak. This would avoid something that isn't really declining but is obviously way past its peak like Perfect being on SCR, and would have given songs like Breaking on Me and Don't Need Love which were arguably cut off too early a bit longer on SCR. As for the artist cap, like you say I think the rule should just be that a song needs to enter an artist's Top 3 to chart (but once it has charted is free to chart indefinitely). It's only ever been a major problem in the first week or two after an album release anyway. |

Thanks, I was just wondering where Dreams would be without ACR. Maybe it would even have a chance of getting new peak this week.

Thanks, I was just wondering where Dreams would be without ACR. Maybe it would even have a chance of getting new peak this week. It does feel a bit unfortunate that a song that was only ever a minor hit (despite being considered a classic song) should be consigned to ACR when it finally gets its chance to shine. Perhaps the OCC can come up with a dubious reason to re-set it. |

The big question for this week is whether Dreams would have achieved a new peak without ACR. I think probably yes but only narrowly as I have it at #23, but it would be great if someone in the know could confirm its exact position! Of course if the existing rules were retained but Dreams had been given a re-set it would have made the Top 20.
Otherwise it’s the first time for nearly 2 years (since Shallow) that no song has done more than 50k. (There were a couple of weeks earlier this year when the official #1 did less than 50k but Blinding Lights was >50k SCR equivalent in those weeks.) Yet overall consumption remains healthy at 21M. I assuming that the pandemic is leading to people switching away from what is current to whatever they feel like listening to, which is no bad thing. 1 1 Mood (1) 2 2 Head & heart (1) 3 5 Ain’t it different (3) 4 4 Lemonade (4) 5 3 WAP (1) 6 6 Looking for me (5) 7 9 You broke me first (7) 8 10 Midnight sky (8) 9 7 Savage love (1) 10 11 What you know bout love (10) 11 8 Mood swings (6) 12 12 Take you dancing (9) 13 15 Holy (12) 14 - Princess cuts (14) 15 13 Lighter (3) 16 15 Tick tock (15) 17 21 Lasting lover (17) 18 17 Blinding lights (1) 19 14 UFO (14) 20 32 See nobody (20) 21 20 Watermelon sugar (6) 22 19 Giants (19) 23 35 Dreams (23) 24 18 Laugh now cry later (5) 25 22 For the night (17) 26 27 West ten (7) 27 24 Greece (11) 28 25 Dynamite (3) 29 23 Rockstar (1) 30 26 Breaking me (4) 31 29 Rain on me (1) 32 28 Go crazy (14) 33 42 Levitating (33) 34 30 Dance monkey (1) 35 39 Diamonds (33) 36 33 Someone you loved (1) 37 - Parlez-vous Anglais (37) 38 34 Heather (27) 39 - Bumpy ride (39) 40 31 Wonder (31) 41 41 Come over (41) 42 - Cool with me (42) 43 47 Daisy (43) 44 50 Put your records on (44) 45 44 Before you go (1) 46 - Only you freestyle (6) 47 38 Holiday (23) 48 48 I dunno (9) 49 45 Roses (1) 50 46 Rover (4) This post has been edited by JulianT: 25th October 2020, 11:43 AM |

chart mod here you're right about Dreams, it would be sitting at #23 this week.
Headie One would also have 'Bumpy Ride' top 40 alongside his 3 actual eligible songs. |

Wasn’t sure where to place Bumpy Ride as it must have had more premium streams than Parlez-Vous Anglais but the latter had a video. |

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I think this is the first time outside Christmas that the official #1 has been as low as #3 on the “true” chart.
I think Dreams might have climbed to another new peak this week but still be just shy of the Top 20. Dan are you able to confirm? 1 1 Mood (1) 2 2 Head and heart (1) 3 4 Lemonade (3) 4 3 Ain’t it different (3) 5 5 WAP (1) 6 6 Looking for me (5) 7 7 You broke me first (7) 8 10 What you know bout love (8) 9 8 Midnight sky (8) 10 20 See nobody (10) 11 13 Holy (11) 12 9 Savage love (1) 13 16 Tick tock (13) 14 17 Lasting lover (14) 15 11 Mood swings (6) 16 12 Take you dancing (9) 17 18 Blinding lights (1) 18 15 Lighter (3) 19 22 Giants (19) 20 33 Levitating (20) 21 21 Watermelon sugar (6) 22 23 Dreams (22) 23 19 UFO (14) 24 28 Dynamite (3) 25 25 For the night (17) 26 14 Princess cuts (14) 27 24 Laugh now cry later (5) 28 - Chingy (28) 29 - Lonely (29) 30 26 West ten (7) 31 35 Diamonds (31) 32 31 Rain on me (1) 33 29 Rockstar (1) 34 30 Breaking me (4) 35 34 Dance monkey (1) 36 29 Greece (11) 37 32 Go crazy (14) 38 36 Someone you loved (1) 39 40 Wonder (31) 40 43 Daisy (40) 41 44 Put your records on (41) 42 41 Come over (41) 43 38 Heather (27) 44 45 Before you go (1) 45 - Hold (45) 46 - Train wreck (46) 47 48 I dunno (9) 48 49 Roses (1) 49 50 Rover (4) 50 42 Cool with me (42) This post has been edited by JulianT: 31st October 2020, 12:41 PM |

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I think this is the first time outside Christmas that the official #1 has been as low as #3 on the “true” chart. I think you're right (I wondered if on the first week Rockstar was at #1 it might have been behind Roses as well as Blinding Lights if they hadn't been on ACR, but that seems unlikely). On those post-Christmas weeks, the official #1s (Sweet But Psycho and River) wouldn't even have been Top 10. As James Masterton said, Mood would otherwise be on 47,420, so that's the lowest '#1 without ACR' sale since video streams were added and the ratios last changed in mid-2018. Mood is also only the 8th song to be denied any weeks at #1 by ACR, but only the second to have had fewer than 8 weeks at #1 officially (the other didn't even get to #1, infamously |

Update for week ending 5 November:
Little Mix would still be without a Top 10 hit this year as it stands as I believe Break Up Song peaked at #12. Assuming I’m right that Intentions peaked at #11 on the old rules Bieber would potentially have two consecutive #11 hits. Dance Monkey would I think be on 61 consecutive weeks in the Top 40 so would have convincingly broken that record. Someone You Loved would have a staggering 90 weeks but not consecutive. I suspect they will both be knocked out, at least temporarily, as next week will bring a grande clear out. 1 - Positions (1) 2 1 Mood (1) 3 2 Head and heart (1) 4 3 Lemonade (3) 5 - Really love (5) 6 10 See nobody (6) 7 7 You broke me first (7) 8 4 Ain’t it different (3) 9 5 WAP (1) 10 8 What you know bout love (8) 11 - Sweet melody (11) 12 9 Midnight sky (8) 13 6 Looking for me (5) 14 11 Holy (11) 15 13 Tick tock (13) 16 14 Lasting lover (14) 17 17 Blinding lights (1) 18 20 Levitating (18) 19 12 Savage love (1) 20 15 Mood swings (6) 21 16 Take you dancing (9) 22 18 Lighter (3) 23 19 Giants (19) 24 21 Watermelon sugar (6) 25 25 For the night (17) 26 22 Dreams (22) 27 31 Diamonds (27) 28 24 Dynamite (3) 29 29 Lonely (29) 30 27 Laugh now cry later (5) 31 23 UFO (14) 32 28 Chingy (28) 33 26 Princess cuts (14) 34 32 Rain on me (1) 35 33 Rockstar (1) 36 35 Dance monkey (1) 37 46 Train wreck (37) 38 37 Go crazy (14) 39 38 Someone you loved (1) 40 34 Breaking me (4) 41 30 Daisy (40) 42 30 West ten (7) 43 41 Put your records on (41) 44 39 Wonder (31) 45 36 Greece (11) 46 42 Come over (41) 47 - I miss u (47) 48 44 Before you go (1) 49 43 Heather (27) 50 48 Roses (1) |

Might have to ask for a recount on Someone You Loved being out of the Top 40 pretty sure it would be above some of the Ariana tracks above it here, still it's had a good run (or second run after dropping out for a week last Christmas).

fyi - Ghostbusters would actually have re-entered the top 40. SYL would indeed have dropped out too.
