 S E M I S Two rounds down, two rounds to go! And it's time we head to Hendinia for the FIRST TIME IN TBO HISTORY, where the semis are about to take flight. From DNQ's to top 10 smashes, 40 entries qualified from the quarter finals to reach this round but now they're about to be joined by the big guns. The 40 entries joining them are the songs that finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th from BJSC 121 through to BJSC 130. The draw for the semi-finals ensures each semi has 5 each of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th placers, the DNQs that are still in are split evenly, and all countries with multiple entries have them in opposite semis as evenly as possible - as carefully curated by our wonderful Bra. Following on from previous rounds, the same rules apply: Anyone who has participated in BJSC in 2020 is free to vote in one, the other or both of the semi-finals (you do not need to have a song in the semi finals to be eligible). The punishment for failure to vote remains as a 15 point deduction for your song, and as you've seen from the last few rounds, this could easily make the difference between qualifying for the final and not. So, the more people who vote, the better chance your entry stands of making it to the bitter end! The 18 point voting system (18/15/13/12/11/10/9/8/7/6/5/4/3/2/1 for your fave through to 15th fave) also remains, so make sure (RobBot MBE) to drop me a PM when it's time to vote. The deadline sits at 23:59pm GMT on Wednesday 20th January 2021, with results HOPEFULLY coming the next day. I'm gonna try and rustle up some recaps to make it more accessible for you guys as I know juggling this with BJSC 131 is gonna be an overload of listening. Seems funny I have my best and worst songs competing in this and nothing in between!
 Reckon this will be the end of the road for 'Hacker' but really hoping 'China Shop' can do good things, still love it to this day! Second favourite entry of mine this year (behind Little Jinder).

Exclusive spoiler from the quarter-final results: there was a 'reject' song that finished as high as 5th in the quarter-final stage. So if there's any song that's going to follow Cavetown to making the grand final I'm expecting it to be that one. Honestly though it's kind of miraculous that happened at all last year - each of the semis has 20 top 5 hits from the year, nevermind all the other songs that also qualified for their original contests, and there are only 15 slots for the final from each so the rejects really have to pull off a pretty remarkable overperformance to be in contention!
I'm hoping I should have a decent chance of getting at least one of my songs through here (I would really really love 070 Shake to get through in particular although Minuit Machine was also like my ~4th favourite entry of the year so I'm happy with my representation here, if only Ela Minus could have been here too x) but it's a tough cull having to make the top 15 out of 40. |
