Olivia Rodrigo's drivers license looks like scoring a fifth week at #1. Cardi B's new single Up is set to impact the charts, as well as a big debut for Digga D & AJ Tracey teaming up on Bringing It Back. Other new releases include A1 x J1, Sam Fischer/Demi Lovato and Niko B

Foo Fighters' newest album Medicine at Midnight is on course to become their fifth to top the UK chart. Fleet Foxes' Shore looks to re-enter with the physical versions now available, while Black Country, New Road release their debut record For The First Time and The Weeknd drops a hits collection The Highlights before his Superbowl half-time performance. Other new albums include The Staves' Good Woman, Hayley Williams' Flowers for Vases and Deacon Blue's Riding on the Tide of Love

Breakdown of the week
- Saturday: Some information may be posted on social media but it is likely to be missing most streaming data and is unrepresentative.
- Sunday: Official First Look Chart on Radio 1 from 6-7pm. Please do not post spoilers on the forum in advance as this ruins the countdown for any listeners.
- Monday: OCC Top 100 from 5:45pm
- Tuesday: Top 40 update as and when we receive them with requests, this is NOT 100% guaranteed however. The OCC may publish sales flashes of their own accord but likewise, this is not guaranteed. Twitter and social media is your friend for today. Please post any information you find with a source. Do not nag for updates, we will post a top 40 update if we receive one.
- Wednesday: Top 40 update from Music Week from 5:45, and potential top 5 sales but this is not guaranteed.
- Thursday: See Tuesday.

Other notes (please read)
- You may make requests Tuesday to Thursday but outside the top 40, specific positions will not be revealed (unless deemed necessary by a mod).
- Please do not demand a midweek update, one will be posted as and when we receive the information. Patience is a virtue.
- Sales information will be given out as deemed necessary by a moderator, please bear this in mind when making requests. Most requests for sales will be ignored. Any chart requests between No. 41 to 100 will not be answered after Monday's update.
- To keep everyone in the loop of all chart action, please refer to the iTunes and Spotify threads.

Foo Fighters have this weeks Number 1 album in the bag, but with the lockdown restrictions effecting physical sales, I can't see them selling many more than 30k this week.

just found an old MW report with all the Foo Fighters 1st week sales, very interesting, their sales were crazy during the 2000s...

Foo Fighters (#3, 1995) 18,724 sales
The Colour And The Shape (#3, 1997) 18,946 sales
There Is Nothing Left To Lose (#10, 1999) 23,704 sales
One By One (#1, 2002) 91,471 sales
In Your Honour (#2, 2005) 159,179 sales
Echoes Silence Patience & Grace (#1, 2007) 135,685 sales
Greatest Hits(#4, 2009) 68,851 sales
Wasting Light (#1, 2011) 114,557 sales
Sonic Highways (#2, 2014) 88,637 sales
Concrete And Gold (#1, 2017) 61,254 sales (including 4,282 from streams)

their last one did 61K, which is pretty good.

Interesting how their first three albums were all similar sales for the Foos and then they exploded in the noighties!

Also interesting that 159k was only enough for #2 that week in 2005 - the #1 was Coldplay's X&Y in its second week.

That was a June release too. Album sales were high all year round back then.

I think Foo Fighters should still be able to do at least 50k or so - The Killers had barely any drop at all in the opening week sales of their last 2 albums, I'd think Foo Fighters' fanbase is similarly rocksteady at this point. The album is also doing extremely well on streaming (for the genre / such an 'old' act) which surely has to be indicative of something.

Fleet Foxes are finally releasing a CD of their album this week apparently (god knows why it's taken this long especially when the album is pretty explicitly autumn-themed), hopefully that can give it a good new peak (won't take much!)

Interested to see how The Weeknd's greatest hits album does - could potentially just be high up the chart by default for a long time to come laugh.gif

Yes, 'X&Y' by Coldplay sold 238,892 that week (down from an opening week sale of 464,471). As gavindeejay posted, sales were high all year around. 2005 was the peak year for albums sales.

I was thinking that, although 2001/2 was the era that bands influenced by Nirvana and the Foos really exploded commercially so I guess it stood to reason that the source material would perform well when they released a new album. I think their older songs had been gaining more traction in the 12-18 months before they released that album through things like Kerrang TV and the Q music channel at the time too.

I bought this on CD the other day as it's a bit of a novelty to have a contemporary act releasing a greatest hits, and I don't have any of his recent studio albums physically. I think it will probably be a bit of a Becky Hill type situation and just hang around in the 20s/30s for an age after potentially quite a decent debut this week, especially after the Superbowl.

I wonder if CDs will become a collectors item that nobody plays in due course too? There were probably more cassettes sold last year than there are cassette players in the UK!

I think it was the release of All My Life that catapulted Foo Fighters to the 1st division of rock
until then they were still under Nirvana's shadow despite releasing some proper great tunes like Everlong or Big Me
but All my Life was much better than anything they've released before, rockier but still melodic
