It'll be a 1-1 draw and we'll finish second in the group. Southgate's master plan to avoid France/Germany/Portugal.

So instead of playing the runner-up of that group in the last 16 we'll just end up playing the winners of that group in the quarter-final? laugh.gif

Not necessarily, what happens if they lose their last 16 tie?

I would be very shocked if the winners of that group lost to a third place team! And if that kind of thing was realistic, why couldn't England beat the runner-up in that case?

Well they can, my comment was tongue-in-cheek re Southgate. I don't genuinely believe he'll play for a draw.

I actually think we're better off playing France/Germany/Portugal anyway. Spain could very easily be runners-up in Group E now and we're terrible against defensive teams like them which keep the ball.

Yeah I don't think the 2018 strategy works this time laugh.gif

It makes more sense to go for top of the group really as - assuming England do somehow manage to beat the runner-up of France/Germany/Portugal (which doesn't look very likely at all but if we ignore that for a second) - the run to the final (where the Netherlands in the semi would probably be the toughest on paper) would probably be preferable to the other half of the draw (with the Group F winners in the QF and Italy or Belgium in the semi). England would also play most of those games in London if they won the group.

Southgate won't play for the draw, but he will set up not to lose. This will be one of those games where both teams would take the draw as it would seem them through. I think this will be a hopelessly dull game, hopefully the likes of Sancho, Bellingham, Henderson, Rashford etc. get a run out here to make their case for a place in the team going forward.

surely england go for it?

i mean will probably benefit them not winning the group but having czech win the group would be a bit embarrassing, imagine if czech won and scotland beat croatia and y'all finished third *.*

I don't think it really matters to be honest, nobody remembers the group stages and Portugal won the last Euros finishing 3rd. Can't see any way England go for it, Southgate is too conservative.

Is there a reason why it is also on ITV2 the England game? For Scottish viewers?

Yeah it will be, both games are on at the same time and the Scotland game is on STV so if anyone in Scotland wants to watch the England game instead they can on ITV 2 although I doubt many will lol.

As two third-placed teams (Ukraine and Finland) have three points, England are definitely through, regardless of tomorrow's result.

Now that both England and Czech Republic have qualified there's gonna be practically nothing at stake in this match. All the drama is in Croatia Vs Scotland.

If anyone has any sense they will be watching the Scotland game as it’s a knockout game!
