Second album done.
I went into 1989 expecting it to be a fully fledged pop record and I don’t think I was wrong. It sure is a departure from Speak Now (and her first two albums which I haven’t heard for about a decade). Overall I really enjoyed it and I even like Shake It Iff more than I did before. |

It’s interesting what you write here because Red certainly feels like a good transition between Speak Now & 1989. I’d agree on that too! Reds country moments and the ballads on the album are stronger as a whole than what the pop moments are but I think pop was something she was branching out into for Red and the albums what followed her writing for more pop orientated songs got better. 1989 at the time was my favourite of hers but I think she’s topped it since with both folklore and evermore but I do think 1989 is an iconic album and one of the best album campaigns across the 10s decade (if not THE best album campaign tbh for a pop album). Is 1989 her highest seller on a WW scale too? I know in the UK it’s her best seller but is it the same in the US and other territories like Canada and Oceania? I think 1989 is her highest selling in Australia. I’m pretty sure it’s certified Diamond.

Is 1989 her highest seller on a WW scale too? I know in the UK it’s her best seller but is it the same in the US and other territories like Canada and Oceania? This is a good question. 1989 is her biggest selling album world wide and is her best selling album in the U.K. Canada & Australia. But it’s not actually the biggest selling album in the US. Or at least it still wasn’t fairly recently. Fearless has actually sold more. I guess 1989 will take over in time though. It’ll be either Fearless TV or Red TV next I can’t decide. Will probably,y wait til the new year to start though. Taylor’s version of Red is brilliant - still listening to it a lot! 1989 at the time was my favourite of hers but I think she’s topped it since with both folklore and evermore but I do think 1989 is an iconic album and one of the best album campaigns across the 10s decade (if not THE best album campaign tbh for a pop album). Iconic is the perfect word to describe the 1989 era & I completely agree with your comment about it having the best album campaign. 1989 era was handled perfectly and catapulted Taylor into the main steam. It was my favourite album for a couple of years (Reputation (excluding Delicate) and Lover (excluding Lover & Cruel Summer) didn’t snatch that crown for me. But… I’m glad she’s moved away from this ‘pop’ sound for Folklore and Evermore. It’s hard to compare them to 1989 with regards to which album I like the most but these two albums have brought her alive to me again and showed me just how much of a superb lyricist she is. And I’m also glad she re-recorded Red this year because it has given me a much better appreciation for the album and how great her song writing was too for this album. |

Thanks, I was t sold on some of the singles at the time so I may give it another go first. I’ve always liked Fearless. It was my least favourite album (well actually the first album is my least favourite but I hadn’t listened to that until I listened to it for the rate last year) so yeah it was my least favourite until TV came out. |

Thanks, I’m taking it Ted TV is a big improvement for you? Yeah it is but I think it’s a mixture of me being older listening to it now and so appreciating a lot of the songs more than I did back then and I also think the vault tracks and the 10 minute version of All Too Well just make the album so much more brilliant |

"Style" has re-entered this week's chart at #93. Its first appearance in the chart since July 2015.
