I have to agree I have very little interest in her anymore. She will always be my favourite Spice Girl for back in the hey day but that is about it now. Melanie C is the only one I have much interest in anymore.

On the few occasions I watch new Victoria interviews, it is true, she always says pretty much the same things lol. I suppose there’s only so many ways you can answer the same questions. It’s very scripted and surface level stuff. A far cry from the sort of interviews she’d give pre-2010s.

Then again it’s exactly the same for Melanie C in the sense that she too has a few buzz phrases that she says time and time again, recently her favourite is “I realise I am Sporty Spice, I am Melanie C, I am a mum, I’m all of these things”. I think with her though, I’m always interested in her talking about her career, whereas I have essentially no interest in what Victoria has to say about her make up. The part of me that used to be a big fan of Victoria feels like “checking in” with her every so often though lol, so I’ll watch the occasional video.

I mean is she even joining Glastonbury at this point? At this point, I prefer her not to participate since she’s not even gonna tour anyway.

This is where I am at to be honest, with the whole group's solo efforts. The main thing I check is group stuff but when it comes to solo, I dont watch the interviews cos they are all the same. Mel C literally said exactly the same thing over 100 times over the past few months. I'm not deriding them but as a fan, it becomes a bit boring when there is so little in terms of actual music to celebrate, which is what I am interested in.

So Victoria's family and her fashion career is the last thing I check in on. I watch the occasional clip on Spice Circle as facebook makes the videos play automatically but most of the time I just scroll past. When I do watch, Im always a bit cringe about how scripted and fake she sounds, which is sad as she was always one of the most natural and funny ones in the Spice Girls.

And lets not even talk about Emma or Geri's interview skills. Both are incredibly boring these days...

I don't care if she will do Glasto or not. After watching them in arenas in 2008 and then stadiums back in 2019 with her, I don't think she is missed at all in the live setting.

Victoria appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show:

I think Victoria got to speak less than Drew, although she still managed to repeat her mantra "Empowering women through fashion (and beauty)". kink.gif

It has dawned on me that actually Victoria barely has ANY lines in all the Biff productions on Spice, not just Wannabe. Like, on the album tracks she is not on 2 Become 1 at all, is barely noticeable on Mama or If You Can't Dance... I know people often point towards Wannabe as her not having any lines, but she also didn't for the most part on any Biff productions, whereas she was very present on Absolute productions.

So, I don't really buy the whole 'she wasnt around for the writing' as she could have been added later in production. They recorded the demo and then recorded the actual final songs later, so it seems very intentional from Biff and Matt that she wasnt included at all back then...

Glad that did change for Spiceworld though! She got some more shinning moments with Biff, for once!

Well, Vic has a verse on 2 Become 1 single version.
I think also they worked together on her unrealased second album.

Thanks for sharing this. Watched the whole thing.

It starts on an overly negative note by initially dismissing Victoria's unreleased music...but as the video progressed, I think it's a lot more fair about what was good and bad in that material.

What I've never understood with V's second album era is why there was such a hard-lined divide between the pop album material and the Damon Dash material. Why did she and her team believe they could only go in one direction or the other? Frankly, the fanbase itself often confuses which songs are from which sessions. I mean, yeah, Be With You is clearly straight from the pop album and It's That Simple is clearly straight from hell...but the better material, I think, slots together well enough. To me, the obvious thing to do would be to take the best of the Damon Dash material (This Groove, Resentment, So Cold)...pair it with the best pop album material (Should Have Known Better, Be With You, Full Stop, Flow, I'd Give It All Away, etc.)...add My Love Is For Real and boom. You'd have an album that not only towers over V's debut...but, I'd argue, would probably be the second best solo Spice album of the 2000-2010 decade behind Emma's Free Me. Given that Emma was a few years ahead of the curve with Free Me's sound, V's potential album might have been the most commercial solo Spice album of that decade.

Now. Would it have gone that way? Would she have used her best stuff? There was enough bad material recorded that it could have been a disaster. Victoria is an intelligent person...which makes It's That Simple all the more baffling. Beyond that, Damon Dash tracks like That Dude and Take You There sound designed to use her voice in the most unflattering way possible. But then, Victoria always seemed to have a fascination with American music producers...which maybe clouded her judgement?

^ Last thought on this. Beyond V recording a TON of songs with known producers who would have fees, I've wondered to what extent Damon Dash's use of song samples could have spelled trouble for Telstar. A lot of those tracks he did for her use famous song samples...and two of those samples (the Beatles' Come Together and George Michael's Freedom) are from HUGE tracks.

I’d never realised the timing of Resentment. That’s the first time I’d heard about the connection to the alleged affair.

If it’s true, it sheds a new light on the track. Victoria really laid it bare. What a woman.

I love almost all of Open Your Eyes. Such a shame it never got a release. It seemed so ready.

This Groove and Resentment are great too - arguably because of the lyrics.

It’s quite misogynistic that Damon Dash felt it appropriate to comment on VB’s talent, given the standard of his output. He is clearly much less talented as a producer than Victoria is as a vocalist and songwriter. She may not be Mariah. But he is no Jay Z.

I also remember thinking that when he said she was no Mariah... like this is the first I've heard of you!? You're hijacking her fame for this just as much as she is.

.

Absolutely. He was using her to flog his jeans.

She honoured her side of the bargain (which was quite a risk, given her fashion ambitions). But he did her dirty with those half-arsed tracks.
