18th August 2019
It's 3 weeks on top for Agnes, still Trancing strongly, what a fabulous track it is, so strong it holds off an 80's grade A classic from a-ha, as 1986 chart-topper The Sun Always Shines On TV returns at 2 following a feature in the good Blinded By The Light movie, set in 1987, and showcasing pop at that time (see It's A Sin entering lower down) and Bruce Springsteen songs - though not the track up to 13 off his new album, still making great music 44 years since Born To Run debuted in my chart - and which is also back thanks to the film. Highest climber is Paul Kalkbrenner up 63 to 4 - I could do with some decent clubs to jiggle about a bit to this and Agnes, chances are low I'll find one with a DJ to my taste that opens from 6pm to 9.30pm! Highest new track is Liam Gallagher, replacing himself in my 40 with his second Oasis-sounding top 10 of the year - One Of Us is not an Abba cover, it's clearly another mouthing off about his older, more-talented brother. Yes, Noel, the one who drops out the top 10 and who wrote a good song called Slide Away. No, not the Slide Away entering at 8 for Miley Cyrus, that's another fab new song, her second top of the year, and I'm really rating her new stuff lately. Kaiser Chiefs also get a second top 10 of the year, Shallou and Colin get a big top 40 climb, Lana Del Ray gets a second top 40 of 2019 with Looking For America. So am I, but I think it may be some time. LEON has a decent climb, she's not Falling at all, and P.P. Arnold gets her first-ever solo top 40 only 51 years late....! Dario G is back 5 years on from his top 20 track with Shirley Bassey, and 21 years on from topping with his Carnaval De Paris, and finally Dolly Parton's Here You Come Again returns 41 years on since it fell short of my top 40. It's sounding fab in a current advert, so that peak chart position needs correcting belatedly! 1 1 1 2 I TRANCE Agnes 340000 2 NEW 2 1 THE SUN ALWAYS SHINES ON TV a-ha 115000 3 2 2 4 PEACE OF MIND Avicii featuring Vargas & Lagola 255100 4 67 4 2 NO GOODBYE Paul Kalkbrenner featuring Chiara Hunter 71600 5 3 1 14 FREE TO GO Seeb & Highasakite 1386500 6 6 4 14 SOLID GOLD PNAU featuring Kira Divine & Marques Toliver 571900 7 NEW 7 1 ONE OF US Liam Gallagher 50000 8 NEW 8 1 SLIDE AWAY Miley Cyrus 48000 9 10 9 8 SUNFLOWER Post Malone & Swae Lee 220750 10 15 10 6 PEOPLE KNOW HOW TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER The Kaiser Chiefs 146700 11 5 1 9 LIVIN’ THING Electric Light Orchestra 1092000 12 11 3 12 THE HUMAN STONE KDA featuring Angie Stone 657000 13 19 13 3 THE WAYFARER Bruce Springsteen 63500 14 4 3 10 SAIL ON Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds 557500 15 8 8 8 MAD LOVE Mabel 214450 16 16 16 3 TIME WON’T GO SLOWLY Snow Patrol 67400 17 7 5 13 DROP TOP Keith Urban featuring Kassi Ashton 430450 18 18 18 10 YOU NEED TO CALM DOWN Taylor Swift 177400 19 20 19 3 FRIENDS Dido 58100 20 12 12 8 DON’T LET ME BE LONELY Mark Ronson featuring YEBBA 193800 21 9 1 8 TITANIUM David Guetta featuring Sia 401550 22 45 22 3 COUNT ON Shallou & Colin 37700 23 13 6 11 MOTHER’S DAUGHTER Miley Cyrus 346250 24 14 5 7 I DARE YOU The Regrettes 272000 25 26 25 3 EMOTION Purple Disco Machine featuring The Emotions 50250 26 28 26 6 YOUR GIRLFRIEND Blossoms 83000 27 39 27 5 FORGIVE OR FORGET Ina Wrolsden 60900 28 35 28 3 DAYS GO BY (CAMELPHAT REMIX) Dirty Vegas 46800 29 23 23 7 GOOD AS HELL Lizzo 115750 30 37 30 3 GREYHOUND Collard 45900 31 17 7 13 RECORD COLLECTION The Kaiser Chiefs 358650 32 32 32 3 I’M GOOD Wafia 43000 33 74 33 2 LOOKING FOR AMERICA Lana Del Ray 22900 34 40 34 3 FAVORITE SOUND Audien & Echosmith 46700 35 48 35 3 FALLING LEON 36600 36 21 10 15 3 NIGHTS Dominic Fike 315750 37 43 37 3 BABY BLUE P.P. Hello John!
Glad to see "Slide Away" in the top 10! I also like that Kaiser Chiefs are in your top 10! Shocked that "Senorita" dropped out so quickly, what happened? Either way, great chart! |

Hi Sergej! Glad you like Slide Away, it's fab Senorita has been pushed out due to massive competition from hot new stuff - I've had to expand my chart again this week I still like Senorita, but it's not as fresh as the new ones... cheers! Great chart! Hi Jordan! Thanks fir the long list! I think we often have similar BJSC taste, and I invariably like your entries - good to see you go for Black Atlass again, after he topped my chart from your UP entry. Classy! He should chart next week - I've too many new entries to allow any BJSC tracks in this week, it would push me over the edge into a top 100! Plus it keeps everyone guessing where my votes went in a very strong semi... Dominic Fike has taken ages to become a hit - in one sense I'm surprised it made it as it's not typical UK chart-style, but in another it's so goshdarn (such language!) catchy it has worldwide hit written all over it without being in or out of chart fashion styles. I've always under-rated that Dolly Parton song - I liked it but I compared it unfavourably at the time to her earlier classics like Jolene. Now when it comes on the ad I love it, and if I'm feeding mum while we watch TV, I gently singalong to it for her and it brings tears to my eyes. Probably tears to anyone else hearing the singing as well, I can't hold a tune! cheers! John |
