An unconventional way to track your birthday songs, so rather than just counting the #1’s of each year, which others would have the same of, why not create your own chart based on your age each birthday.
So for example, if you’re born on July 1st 1990, your first year birthday would fall on July 1st 1991, so you would place that song as your #1. The following year would be your second birthday, so you would place the song that was #2 in the charts on that week as your #2 and so forth until you reach your current age. What’s good about this is everybody’s chart will be different, even if you share the same birthday but are born on different years. As I’m born in 1986, this is how my own birthday chart looks based on my age for each chart position until my 33rd birthday last year. 1. (1987) Starship – Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now 2. (1988) Kylie Minogue – Got To Be Certain 3. (1989) Natalie Cole – Miss You Like Crazy 4. (1990) New Kids On The Block – Cover Girl 5. (1991) Soft Cell feat. Marc Almond – Tainted Love 6. (1992) Curiosity – Hang In There Baby 7. (1993) R.E.M. – Everybody Hurts 8. (1994) Bad Boys Inc. – More To This World 9. (1995) Manchester United feat. Stryker – We’re Gonna Do It Again 10. (1996) Black Grape – Fat Neck 11. (1997) Rembrandts – I’ll Be There For You 12. (1998) Madonna – Ray Of Light 13. (1999) Powerhouse feat. Duane Harden – What You Need 14. (2000) Madasun – Walk On Water 15. (2001) Shaggy feat. RikRok – It Wasn’t Me 16. (2002) Reelists – Freak Mode 17. (2003) DMX – X Gon’ Give It To Ya 18. (2004) Joss Stone – Super Duper Love 19. (2005) Stevie Wonder – So What The Fuss 20. (2006) Angels & Airwaves – The Adventure 21. (2007) Jamie T – Sheila 22. (2008) Alphabeat – Fascination 23. (2009) Noisettes – Don’t Upset The Rhythm (Go Baby Go) 24. (2010) Tinie Tempah – Pass Out 25. (2011) Wynter Gordon – Dirty Talk 26. (2012) David Guetta feat. Sia – Titanium 27. (2013) Mariah Carey feat. Miguel – Beautiful 28. (2014) Katy Perry – Birthday 29. (2015) Fetty Wap – Trap Queen 30. (2016) Cheat Codes x Kris Kross Amsterdam – Sex 31. (2017) Niall Horan – Slow Hands 32. (2018) Yxng Bane – Vroom 33. (2019) Digga D – No Diet 34. (2020) StaySolidRocky – Party Girl 35. (2021) Olivia Rodrigo – drivers licence 36. (2022) Glass Animals – Heat Waves 37. (2023) Jonas Brothers – Waffle House 38. (2024) Beyoncé – TEXAS HOLD EM A bit of an irony to have a song titled “Birthday” in that list, but some pleasing songs too from Madonna, Shaggy, Alphabeat, Noisettes, David Guetta and Cheat Codes. If you have time in your hands, why not try doing one yourself and see what it looks like. |

Thanks for doing the hard work for me! Just switch Eminem's 'Beautiful' for Lady Gaga's 'Paparazzi' in 2009 and Krept & Konan's 'I Spy' for Chris Brown's 'No Guidance' for 2019. Unlucky me getting three Chris Brown songs (I do quite like 'Next 2 You' though). Some right stinkers here but at least all the dance records are all great, plus I love 'Shut Up and Let Me Go', 'Paparazzi', 'What If', 'Get Lucky' and 'Into You'. |

Ah cool idea! Especially because my #1 is one of the best songs of all time Wondering how far I'll get until I reach a song I've never heard of, I predict about #26...
1 (1989): Black Box - Ride On Time 2 (1990): The Steve Miller Band - The Joker 3 (1991): Oceanic - Insanity 4 (1992): Snap - Rhythm Is A Dancer 5 (1993): SWV - Right Here 6 (1994): Kylie Minogue - Confide In Me 7 (1995): Rembrandts - I'll Be There For You 8 (1996): Spice Girls - Wannabe 9 (1997): Tina Moore - Never Gonna Let You Go 10 (1998): Savage Garden - To The Moon And Back 11 (1999): Fragma - Toca Me 12 (2000): Vanessa Amarosi - Absolutely Everybody 13 (2001): Ian Brown - Fear 14 (2002): Puddle Of Mudd - She Hates Me 15 (2003): Gareth Gates - Sunshine 16 (2004): The Corrs - Angel (never heard it! Didn't realise they were still relevant this late...) 17 (2005): Oasis - The Importance of Being Idle 18 (2006): Janet Jackson & Nelly - Call On Me (nope...rap/R&B version of Eric Prydz?) 19 (2007): Kate Nash - Foundations 20 (2008): Jordin Sparks feat. Chris Brown - No Air 21 (2009): Paloma Faith - New York 22 (2010): Eliza Doolittle - Pack Up 23 (2011): Emile Sande - Heaven (probably the only one of hers I can stand, just one place below was Bad Meets Evil's 'Lighters' which is one of my all time faves) 24 (2012): Tulisa feat. Tyga - Live It Up (never heard of it...*again* one place below is 'Little Talks' which would have been amazing) 25 (2013): Passenger - Let Her Go (and again just one place below is Rizzle Kicks 'Lost Generation'...wishing I'd have been born a year later now!) 26 (2014): Ed Sheeran - Sing (don't believe it...AGAIN you've got 'My Head Is A Jungle' one place below!! Amazed I'm still recognising the songs tbh) 27 (2015): Nero - Two Minds (I'd completely forgotten Nero actually had a chart hit this late!! Just about recall listening to it and not being too fussed tho) 28 (2016): Tieks feat. Dan Harkna - Sunshine (yeah never heard of this or about a third of this chart) 29 (2017): Marshmello feat Khalid - Silence (nope, or most of the surrounding songs by now - just eight in the whole top 40) 30 (2018): Ariana Grande - God Is A Woman (only three songs in the top 40 and they're Shotgun, One Kiss and This Is Me) 31 (2019): Stormzy - Sound of the Skeng (...and we're down to one song in the entire top 40, and it's 'Senorita') Well that ended up depressing Great run throughout the 90s though! |

I've prob heard Lil Pump and Lil Mix once each for half a minute before deciding not to buy them. |

Mariah Carey - All I Want for Christmas is You (2012) 21. Afrojack feat. Spree Wilson - The Spark (2013) 22. Sam Smith - I'm Not The Only One (2014) 23. Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas (2018) 27. Dave - Professor X (2019) took a while until it got to one I'd never heard of post-2015 but here it is For a December list, this is a lot less embarassing than you'd expect, I prefer it to my birthday number 1s list! 1996, 1998 and 2000 are the only three I'm not sure I recognise by name, the middle of the list features a lot of songs I wouldn't know if I weren't following the charts at the time, but I can still hum Whistle for the Choir, The Spark and I Hate This Part! |
