Just been announced! I can see this getting a lot of discussion so will be worth having its own thread.
I must say though, it's quite a low-key announcement! I still think we'll get something at the FA Cup final for the 60th. Maybe an announcement of returning Doctors for it? https://www.doctorwho.tv/news-and-features/...a-is-the-doctor |

I've not seen him in anything but that's a great name for them to have, Sex Education is huge!

Oh wow, I can only see him as Eric from Sex Education who I wouldn't say is very Doctor-like so will probably take some getting used to, but he's certainly got the energy and likeability for it, what a gig for him *. (and on another note, I guess that means the next series of Sex Education will be the last!)

My bet was on T’Nia Miller which I’d have LOVED but there’s still opportunity for her to be Fifteen
I’m really excited to see his take on it, as it feels he’s going to bring something new to the role. I can’t fully picture it yet, which kinda makes it more exciting, and I really trust RTD as people were saying similar things about Christopher Eccleston. I’m just about recovering from this coming out of NOWHERE, lots of suggestions that it was meant to be revealed at the BAFTAs tonight where both Ncuti and RTD are nominated. There feels a lot of buzz already though, Sex Education is huge and so I’m hoping it helps the show become a larger part of pop culture again. It’s going to be a long wait to November 23…!! He’s the first person of colour to play the Doctor! Aside from the Fugitive Doctor *.* |

Someone on Reddit who “leaked” his casting a few months back (as well as the correct filming date) also mentioned back then that Olly Alexander & Saorise Monica-Jackson were in talks to be companions...

Glad to see more diversity in the role but a little disappointed they’ve switched back to a man already. Maybe next time?

Oh wow, very excited to see what he does with the role! I literally started watching Sex Education this week, perfect timing
(also would absolutely be here for Olly/Saoirse as companions if there's any truth in that) |

Never seen him in anything and don't know who he is so, I have no opinion on his casting really but I do remember suggesting a whole back that I could see them going for a black male actor as it would be both safe and progressive.

Interview with Newsround's former Harry Potter correspondent Lizo for BBC News:
Ncuti is presenting an award at the BAFTAs later so we're guaranteed to get some reference to it there later! |

Excited about this. I think i'm in the same area as when Matt Smith was announced - curious and excited to see what he can bring to the role.

I’ve no intention of watching Sex Education so I won’t have seen Ncuti Gatwa acting before seeing him as The Doctor, but hopefully he’ll do a good job. It’ll be the first time that actor playing The Doctor was born after me, which I believe is another ‘you’re getting old’ moment.

More like "Who" unfortunately I've never seen any of his TV shows, bit intrigued to see how he adapts into the role, I would have preferred Olly Alexander to be honest.
