And it goes a little something like this!

JUNE 9, 2016
DAY 09: GRiZ X Big Gigantic - "Good Times Roll"
All Good Music • 2015

A bit of a switch-up in sound today, as GRiZ supplies the track of the day in "Good Times Roll", the first of these tracks not premiered in 2016. This first featured in Season 21 of Dancing With The Stars when the pros and contestants danced to this during Switch-Up week. This blends elements of trap, glitch hop, and swing into one masterful track. If you want an electro swing song that doesn't sound like an Electro Velvet remake, this song is for you.

Trying to find my way back home to you...

DAY 10: Marshmello - "Alone"
Monstercat • 2016

Normally it takes a good trap song to really capture the masses. In this case, trap infused with future bass elements a la Wave Racer meets Yellow Claw does the trick for this one. This is also the first Monstercat track on here. Marshmello is the latest mystery outfit in the trap scene, and he mainly cares about the music rather than the identity. The Sia teas are strong with this one. Anyway, it's safe to say that this track is pretty... sweet. And if you like a trap song that at the same time is a real sugar rush, then this track is for you.

JUNE 11, 2016
DAY 11: R3HAB - "Sakura"
Spinnin Records • 2016

This has been my most anticipated release since before this thread was a thing. The latest release from Spinnin Records' festival powerhouse R3HAB is inspired by recent tours in Japan bringing in a style which is a hybrid of his and that of his good friend KSHMR. It premiered on Hardwell On Air a couple of weeks ago, and now it has been unleashed onto the world. Let loose as this euphoric house track send you to the far reaches of the Eastern Henisphere. If you're into a song that whisks you across the Pacific Ocean (or at least to Washington D.C.) and into a forest of sakura blossom trees, then this song is for you.

I finally went and did the math...

JUNE 12, 2016
DAY 12: Jerome Price - "Me Minus You"
Selected. • 2015

The first former BJSC entry and certainly not the last. (spoilers) This managed to get a release and an actual music video not too long ago, and a feature as Radio 1's Track Of The Day gives some hope that this could do some damage on the charts. The appeal to this is actually formulaic, really: a catchy deep house drop + relaxing female vocals + empowering "I'm over you" lyrics = a dance anthem in the works. If you're getting this equation and are bopping to this as we speak, then this song is for you.

DAY 13: JR JR - "Gone (Robert DeLong Remix)"
Warner Bros. Records • 2015

I am so thankful to finally share this with the world as I think it's an amazing remix. The first remix here comes from the Robert DeLong remix of JR JR's amazing alternative smash "Gone". The original has been featured on the trailer for the upcoming animated movie Sausage Party starring Seth Rogen. However, the remix adds a little bit more life into the song, complete with the original's wistful whistling, an almost tropical instrumental, and just about everything else needed for that perfect vacation song. If you're looking for a dance song you can add to all your family videos, then this song is for you.

All I do is dream...

JUNE 14, 2016
DAY 14: Shelco Garcia & TEENWOLF f/Philly K & Madi Rindge - "Dreaming"
Mixmash Records • 2016

Mixmash Records is a primarily Dutch music label founded by Laidback Luke and the first offering to be featured here comes from American duo Shelco Garcia & TEENWOLF, the duo that co-produced Madonna's "Unapologetic Bitch" with Diplo. This time, their track is not of the big room genre but more of the Major Lazer-styled tropical pop scene. Their take on the tropical pop sound is less like Major Lazer and more of the likes of songs such as "Bang My Head" and "Middle" so surely this must be a formula to success? If you're into a song with a euphoric drop and soothing vocals as you drive up to the beach with your friends, then this is the song for you.

Also in true Cody fashion, I did pick a song with an artist with the words Teen Wolf in the name.

DAY 15: Aeroplane f/Benjamin Diamond - "Let's Get Slow"
Eskimo Recordings • 2015

Italian-Belgian producer Aeroplane has been circling around for a while and this is the one track by him that has really caught my eye. Fit for a casual red-eye flight 30,000 feet above ground, this disco-infused track featuring the vocals of Benjamin Diamond is nice to listen to as you recline your plane seat and doze off. With this track, you are now free to jam around the cabin. At least until the seatbelt light flashes back on.

DAY 16: Martin Garrix - "Oops"
STMPD RCRDS • 2015

Earlier this year Martin Garrix broke away from Spinnin' Records to begin his own label called STMPD RCRDS, which includes some new talent (including a song by Marshmello) and his own work. This track combines some slick future house and his new signature tribal effects with a bit of 8-bit and chiptune that can only be reminiscent of the classic arcade games of the 80's and early 90's? Want to be taken into a wave of NES nostalgia? This song is something you should check out.

JUNE 17, 2016
DAY 17: Tiesto f/John Legend - "Summer Nights"
Musical Freedom • 2016

The first of the EDC highlights for this section is the latest offering from Tiesto, who apparently has now found a deep house sound after his progressive efforts last year. His previous work involving John Legend was his remix that gave life to the otherwise dead "All Of Me". He says that his goal was mainly to accentuate more of John Legend and the summery soul feel that the song entails, and may I say, he didn't disappoint with this one. The eclectic mix of house and soul that was ever present in his remix of "All Of Me" perfectly displays the start of something new in terms of EDC.

JUNE 18, 2016
DAY 18: Sebastian Ingrosso - "Dark River"
Refune Music • 2016

The second night of EDC featured a set from Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso, two members of the now defunct Swedish House Mafia. This highlight gives the spotlight to the latter, with his deep house/big room fusion offering in "Dark River". The song begins with a folk tinge that is somewhat similar to the duo's previous work (see: "Something New" and "On My Way"), but this adds more of a festival flavor, which seems fit for the EDC lifestyle. The title may suggest something dark, but this song is anything from it.

JUNE 19, 2016
DAY 19: Galantis - "No Money (Dillon Francis Remix)"
Atlantic • 2016

Swedish duo Galantis were among many other acts who closed off the three-day spectacle on Sunday, so it seems fitting that they would be the next highlight of this EDC takeover. Their latest single, "No Money" has conquered many countries worldwide and has spawned many remixes. The most prominent remix of this song however comes from Dillon Francis, who gives the song more of a festival feel to this otherwise carefree, funky and joyous house song.

*EDC TAKEOVER*

JUNE 20, 2016
DAY 20: Tiesto & BT - "Break My Fall"
Black Hole Recordings • 2007

To close off this EDC takeover, we have this oldie-but-a-goodie track featuring two EDC headliners of two different eras. We have BT, who headlined during the turn of the millennium when EDC mainly focused on underground genres rather than the mainstream, and Tiesto, whose transcendence of genres enables him to stay relevant enough to headline even this year's edition. This song shows the two DJs' production styles combine into a euphoric taste of trance that can easily describe the color the festival brings year after year. 20 editions in, and the festival is still going strong.

Thank you EDC for a good 20 years, and may there be more color, lights, and good music for the years to come.

JUNE 21, 2016
DAY 21: Cazzette f/Laleh - "Blue Sky"
ICONS Music • 2016

Eclectic DJ duo Cazzette began experimenting with different styles other than progressive house since their single, "Sleepless", and their EP Desserts has only exemplified this change of pace. Their new single featuring Laleh fuses a bit of folk-sounding guitars (similar to the flamenco-tinged "Solo Para Ti") with a deep house drop to form something both sexy and yet sophisticated. If you want a sort of gypsy sound as your theme song when walking on a busy sidewalk with a bunch of shopping bags around your wrists, then this song is for you.

JUNE 22, 2016
DAY 22: JAHKOY - "Still In Love (Digital Farm Animals Remix)"
Def Jam • 2016

This next track comes from upcoming R&B hotshot JAHKOY, who first made his mark back in 2014 with his single, "Poison". His latest offering "Still In Love" still follows the R&B side of his strengths. The remix by Digital Farm Animals, however, adds a bit of 90's house that was so prevalent over the course of the summer of 2015. Just the velvety tone of his voice mixed with the powerful drop make this a song to listen to when you're out on the side of the beach walking on the boardwalk and smelling the crisp ocean air.
