Entering the chart the same week, 'It's Over Now' by Big Ang feat. Siobhan at #29
I loved this at the time, it was on the Clubland compilation that I bought and was probably one of my faves of the album. Can't believe looking back it only went to #29, it sounds so much bigger! I still give it a listen every now and then and it sounds great every time. The song this sampled was also sampled in Freemasons' 'Watchin' (#19, 2006) and Burns' 'Lies' (#32, 2012). |

Really liked Jacques Your Body and the dancing car robot in the advert it was in at the time, the advert was played a lot on the TV. Great French house tune, very funky and catchy!
Its Over Now I remember I think hearing it on the radio, sounded a lot different and more reflective and sad sounding a dance tune than anything else around at the time (probably why it didn't do better in the charts, although it got 2 weeks top 40). I liked it though. With its organ bassline it may have still made the top 40 if it had of been released in 2015. Still prefer Watchin' though as a cover of the Deborah Cox song to the Big Ang ft Siobhan or Burns (Otto Knows remix) ones as the production with the violins is so euphoric in Watchin' imo. The next dance number 1 is very ahead of its time, with its chilled vocal and prominent use of acoustic guitar it is a real precursor to the chilled acoustic house trend that has been popular this decade in Europe, although this tune does have a faster beat to it.

You're thinking of the song that comes after the next one.The next dance number one is a funky house classic and brings us back into the official top 3. |

Oops...didn't look at the list...assumed that one was the next one
The next one I was a bit confused about at the time but I liked it.... 2005 was a great year for dance....so much variety even if a lot of dance songs underperformed in the top 40....sad it's nearly over on this thread.... 2006 is probably the last truly great year for chart dance in the 00s imo.....although I like 2008 of course and its eurodance and funky house revivals (and some other songs from other genres too like The Journey Continues and Lollipop). That's not to say there weren't some great dance tracks in 2007 and 2009 (particularly the latter). This post has been edited by Вuzzjack: May 1 2017, 03:55 PM |

Missed a track during Uniting Nations' You and Me's week to post, and its this one that I said before I remembered a lot being on music channels, although I'm the only one who does here probably....
Really liked this at the time. Remember the video with the airport too. This is also notable because Alex Gaudino was in the duo Lil' Love that did this amazing imo remix of an older track and he will appear later in the thread! This track reached number 34 in the chart. Should have done a lot better though considering its airplay. Some great tracks in the chart during the next dance number 1, including a remixed version of a 90s classic that made top 20. Crazy Frog was everywhere. 'Popcorn' was pretty crap to be honest.
'Jacques Your Body', underrates tune this was. |

QUOTE The advert, linked above, sees the car transform into a giant human-like robot and dance to 'Jacques Your Body'. This may not be the last mention in this thread of cars turning into robots... |

Thank goodness Love On My Mind beat Popcorn by one place that week and became dance number 1 for this thread. QUOTE This may not be the last mention in this thread of cars turning into robots... If you are referring to what I think you are referring to, that song already made number 20 in the chart in 2005 but not dance number 1 but may indeed return as dance number 1 later as did re-enter the chart again. |

No I'm not referring to that one. Oh I know what you mean it was only the drop of that one in the advert, and it surprised me when I heard the full song! That other one I am talking about had a robot in the video but it formed from separate bricks coming together and not a car! |

Mylo vs. Miami Sound Machine - Doctor Pressure
Date: 11th September 2005 Weeks at #1: 5 weeks Official Chart Run: 3-4-7-9-14-17-15-21-24-29-32-40-40-50-53-54-49-51-58-58-62-64-70-x (23 weeks) Mylo, born Myles MacInnes in Broadford, Isle of Skye, Scotland studied mathematics and philosophy at university before going on to produce music. His style is a mixture of house, electro and nu-disco. Miami Sound Machine are an American band originating from (you guessed it) Miami who were popular in the 1980s, scoring six UK top 40 hits prior to 'Doctor Pressure'. Their singer Gloria Estefan went on to have even more hits since they disbanded. She eventually had 27 UK top 40 hits as a credited artist, including four credited to 'Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine'. 'Doctor Pressure' is a mash-up of Mylo's previous chart hit 'Drop The Pressure' (#19, 2004) and Miami Sound Machine's 'Dr. Beat' (#6, 1984), and the resulting music video is also a mash-up of the two original music videos. Mylo's only studio album, titled 'Destroy Rock & Roll' was released in May 2004, originally entered at #91 and dropped out the following week. It re-entered the chart in 2005, eventually peaking at #31 following the release of 'In My Arms'. The album was then re-released in September to include 'Doctor Pressure' as a bonus track, it peaked at #26. 'Doctor Pressure' became Mylo's fourth consecutive top 20 hit, and his first top 10, following 'Drop The Pressure' (#19), 'Destroy Rock & Roll' (#15) and 'In My Arms' (#13). It would also be his last. Follow-up single 'Muscle Car' featuring Freeform Five was released in January 2006 and peaked at #38. He would release no more singles following that. This song is personally one of my absolute favourites of the decade, I remember loving this at the time of its release too and got excited whenever it came on the TV music channels. I would call this a proper dance classic it's just such a *TUNE*. The vocal and production sound like they were made for each other, despite being made twenty years apart. The production is outstanding but the vocal elevates it even further. |

Other dance hits at the time...
Faithless - Insomnia 2005 [#17] bit of a pointless reworking tbh, the original is much better. at least the Avicii remix a few years back made it sound a bit different. Supafly vs. Fishbowl - Let's Get Down [#22] now this is a bit of a tune, why was this not bigger? Pendulum - Slam/Out Here [#34] can't believe this only peaked at #34 WTF?!? big d'n'b classic. Basement Jaxx - Do Your Thing [#32] likewise, I thought this was much bigger than #32. X-Press 2 - Give It [#33] this doesn't do anything for me. The Prodigy - Voodoo People/Out Of Space [#20] another big Pendulum song (their VP remix). like this more than the original. |

Was confused when this came out as to why such an old song that I knew was being played on music channels playing new music, I didn't realise it was a new remix (although I did notice that the robotic 'motherf**ker's gonna drop the pressure' I had heard before in another song (which of course was Drop The Pressure)
Really liked it though (as I liked the original Miami Sound machine song). Brilliant tune listening to it back now, heard it a good few times on the radio since 2005 on dance classics shows too. |

Give It is SO ahead of its time in production, that chilled sound and use of brass instruments really reminds me of the style of production in the likes of Sonnentanz or Jubel earlier this decade. Think I may remember Give It from the time, sounded like a rather different but good tune back then iirc.
I remember Voodoo People (Pendulum remix) and liked it at the time, it was on music channels quite a lot I remember. I thought it sounded different and interesting back then, and still sounds great today! Let's Get Down I remember a lot being played on music channels, liked that one too. Definitely should have been bigger, brilliant tune. I have heard it on the radio a few times since. The Insomnia remix I remember from the time and wasn't sure of what it was until the big buildup at the end, which for me was synonymous with dance music, I knew Insomnia 2005 was a rerelease (I had heard the original before) but not that it was a remix. I liked it though. Slam, I don't remember from the time, but it was been played quite a few times on Radio 1 since, must have first heard it about 6 years ago on Radio 1, sounded great and I have liked it since. Do Your Thing I don't think I remember from the time but it has been played a lot on radio 1 dance classics shows/features to the point that I thought it was a much bigger hit. Can see why it wasn't, the early 00s type of funky house sound on Do Your Thing meant it probably would have done better if it was out a few years earlier. Its a good tune but it wouldn't be my favourite of theirs. This post has been edited by Вuzzjack: May 3 2017, 04:38 PM |

Loving all these great dance tracks from 2005. Mylo became one of my favourites of the year and decade. Such an infectious track!

Bob Sinclar (feat. Gary Nesta Pine) - Love Generation
Date: 16th October 2005 Weeks at #1: 5 weeks Official Chart Run: 15-14-12-12-14-20-24-27-40-43-57-55-49-57-61-64-69-x (17 weeks) French DJ Bob Sinclar went into the top half of the chart once before with 'I Feel For You' (#9, 2000) but it was 'Love Generation' that became his real breakthrough hit. It only made #12 in the UK unfortunately but it was a big European hit, peaking at #1 in Australia, Austria, Belgium and Germany. Sinclar has been DJing since the late 1980s, releasing music since 1998 and to date has released nine studio albums. 'Love Generation' was the first single taken from 'Western Dream' and its full version is nine minutes long. The song is influenced by the music of Jamaica and the lyrical themes of love and peace. It's a very catchy, upbeat, feel-good song - also helped by the whistling that appears in the hook. It features Jamaican singer Gary Nesta Pine who also featured on Sinclar's 'Sound of Freedom' (#14, 2007). The music video follows a young boy and his journey to many different locations in the US. The same boy features in the video to follow-up single 'World, Hold On' (#9, 2006). Bob Sinclar's biggest hit would come a year after 'Generation' charted, with 'Rock This Party (Everybody Dance Now)' (#3, 2006). More on these songs as we get to them. No more top 40 hits would follow 'Sound of Freedom' but he continues to make and release music. As recently as last year he got 'Someone Who Needs Me' in the chart... barely. Wikipedia tells me it charted at #192. You may also be aware that his song 'Gym Tonic' (co-produced with Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk) was covered by Spacedust and taken to #1 in 1998 as he was refused permission to release his own version as a single. It is now available to download and stream as an album track. |

I adore 'Doctor Pressure'! It merges the two songs so well into such an energetic and infectious delight.
'Love Generation' is alright but I much preferred 'World, Hold On' from Bob Sinclar. |

Other dance hits at the time...
Da Playaz vs Clea - We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off [#35] very average. bit of a lazy cover really. D.O.N.S. feat. Technotronic - Pump Up The Jam [#22] another pointless remix. Madonna - Hung Up [#1] {honorable mention} really love this and it's very dancey, though it doesn't quite qualify as a dance song for the purpose of this thread. (and I needed to add something here other than lazy cover versions) Uniting Nations - Ai No Corrida [#18] aaaaaand it's another lazy dance cover we really are in a bit of a dry period for dance at the moment, thankfully 'Love Generation' was in the chart to somewhat save it. I also have another song to review that (unfortunately) slipped in a week during Bob's run. |

Doctor Pressure! I adored that at the time and haven't heard it in ages, still think it is great though listening now.
Also - Do Your Thing and Give It are also both amazing, I still listen to both of these regularly now. |
