Camille Jones vs Fedde Le Grand - The Creeps
Date: 11th March 2007 Weeks at #1: 2 weeks Official Chart Run: 16-7-9-13-11-19-26-33-36-41-56-69-79-95-96 (9 weeks top 40 plus 6 weeks top 100) Here is a song that according to its wikipedia article has a 'techno party beat and quiet singing' . It is of course the follow up to 'Put Your Hands Up For Detroit' for Dutch producer Fedde Le Grand, who has half of the credit for this song. The other half of the credit goes to Danish singer Camille Jones, for the dance song is actually a remix of her original 2004 track called 'The Creeps'. It was remixed by Fedde Le Grand and then was picked up by radio stations across Europe in early 2007 prior to release in March 2007. The official video for the Fedde le Grand remix, the third video for the song after two for the original non remixed version by Camille Jones (one of which was nominated for a Danish Music Award), is apart from the shots of Camille Jones singing the words, the usual sexualised mid 00s dance video fare sadly, albeit not quite as bad as most of them. The song itself is a minimal bass-heavy electro house song and actually out of all the songs reviewed so far for this, is probably the most relevant to today's dance music, with the current popularity of bass-heavy tech house songs with chanted vocals like 'Cola'. As for the song itself, I do like the wobble bass and weird sounding synths which makes it more interesting than many of today's tech house songs for me. However it doesn't rank that highly upon my favourite tracks of the 00s. I don't think I remember it from the time. I either wasn't watching as many music channels then, or more likely watching those that didn't play much dance I think. This post has been edited by Snow❄Diploughmat: 28th November 2017, 07:35 PM |

A certain relatively new dance producer was getting his first chart hit at this time, he was unlucky not to get dance number 1 as he was stuck at #10 the week that The Creeps was at #9.
I think I remember this from the time, I think I considered it more an indie track than a dance track back then though. I think I liked it at the time and it is still a very good track I think although I don't like it as much as the retro influenced house tracks from the previous years there were in the UK chart. Also I may as well put this one in, flopped sadly at #42 on the first week of 'The Creeps' being dance number 1, it seems to be a cover of a Mary J Blige - Be Without You Moto Blanco remix there was in 2005 that was apparently popular in the clubs. I do like both the remix and this cover though! Plus one more dance song entry during the time of 'The Creeps' at dance number 1, charting in its first week in the top 100 at a respectable #18 but was about to become much bigger on the chart. It is of course our next dance number 1 on this thread. This post has been edited by Snow❄Diploughmat: 28th November 2017, 07:33 PM |

Thank you snake!
I too wasn’t that fussed by "The Creeps". Loved Calvin's debut hit! |

I think Lenny's doing the next one, although I am not sure.
Interesting fact is that both artists credited on our next dance number 1 had UK top 40 hits before, one of them as part of a duo though. |

I believe Dan is next before it swings back round to my lot. And we do appreciate the effort you put in when you do post these (plus the ones 'also charting' at the time!)

Yes the 90s dance number 1s thread does not seem to have done that bit much, even with those dance songs that missed out on dance number 1 but made the official chart top 10. Great to see this continuing.
I quite enjoyed The Creeps at the time, can't say I've heard it years though! That Calvin Harris track was amazing! Who'd of thought back then he would be one of the worlds biggest DJ's 10 years later? |

That Calvin Harris track was amazing! Who'd of thought back then he would be one of the worlds biggest DJ's 10 years later? His rise to prominence was great! When he led album 2 with "I'm Not Alone" you had this feeling, it felt so HUGE, and so different to his first stuff. That coupled with David Guetta turning superstar DJ and it became the formula for success. |

With the next dance number 1 I have conflicting feelings about whether I really like it or just think it is OK.

You cheeky 😂😂😂 Our next song is definitely not one of the more unknown dance number 1s of the 00s with 6 weeks at dance number 1. A well redone 90s dance track imo and and a rude but excellently produced imo (with an 80s influenced instrumental) dance song making the charts during its chart run amongst other ones, but I am sure danG will post these dance tracks that also made the chart too! Alex Gaudino (feat. Crystal Waters) - Destination Calabria
Date: 25th March 2007 Weeks at dance #1: 6 weeks Official Chart Run: 18-5-4-5-9-12-14-16-24-36-34-42-46-58-70-96-89-66-69-69-68-75-84-x-98 (11 weeks top 40 plus 13 more weeks top 100) Going against the trend for electro house tracks doing well in the charts at the time, here is a funky house/swing house (I'm not sure with this one which of the two subgenres it is but am leaning towards thinking it swing house) tune that was one the biggest dance hits of 2007. Alex Gaudino is an Italian producer (from Campania not Calabria though) who started off his career more in record companies, eventually founding his own label Rise Records with the support of Italian record company TIME. This record label specialised in dance music. Both artists in this collaboration had previous top 40 hit singles in the UK, Alex Gaudino already had a #34 UK hit with as part of the trio 'Lil' Love' (together with fellow producer Jerma and singer Sharon May Linn) with the similarly named Little Love, one of the tunes I most remember from 2005 despite its low chart placing as it seemed to be on music channels a lot. Sharon May Linn's redone vocal in it samples parts of Coldcut ft Lisa Stansfield's 1989 track 'People Hold On'. Crystal Waters of course (along with Destination Calabria) is best known for her deep house song 'Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)' in 1991 which reached #2 in the UK and so was a dance number 1 in the Buzzjack 90s dance number 1s thread that inspired this one. Both 'Little Love' and 'Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)' sound a lot different in style to Destination Calabria. Destination Calabria's most distinctive feature in the instrumental is of course the use of the saxophone, saxophones or saxophone samples I don't think have been used in any of the dance number 1s on this thread until this point. The saxophone sample is from a 2003 song by Rune called Calabria. The rest of the song (it is a mashup) is from this song also made in 2003: The mashup Destination Calabria was produced with the help of Maurizio Nari and Ronnie Milani (Nari & Milani), matching the saxophone hook/riff from "Calabria" to Crystal Waters' voice. It became a huge hit across Europe and in Australia, going top 10 in 10 other countries besides the UK. The video is of course the sadly all too common over-sexualised mid 00s fare imo. Although I could only find the so called explicit version sadly on youtube and I assume it wasn't quite as bad as this one on TV, still not great though I imagine. Alex Gaudino would return to the charts in 2008 with Shena with a funky house tune 'Watch Out' which sampled the 1982 non-electronic dance tune 'Papa's Got A Brand New Pigbag' by Pigbag. Sadly though 'Watch Out' doesn't appear as a dance number 1 on this thread. He then had two top 10 hits in the early 10s, 'I'm In Love (I Wanna Do it)' being my favourite of the two, but 'What A Feeling' ft Kelly Rowland is a good tune too imo. They may or may not appear as dance number 1s on a future 10s dance number 1s thread on Buzzjack. |

The sax on that song makes me think of holidaying on the Mediterranean coast more than any song I can think of, I think! Loved this one. Reminds me of my Spanish girls
Also, did you realise you had another one to do or what? |

Also making the charts during Destination Calabria's time at dance number 1.....
#13 Seamus Hadji ft Kayjay - Last Night a DJ Saved My Life An electro house cover of an 80s song by Indeep. I like it even though i am not the biggest fan of the vocal style. I may remember it from the time actually and I think I did like it. #38 Faithless ft Cass Fox - Music Matters Don't recall hearing this before, sounds very good though, deserved to do better on the charts than #38. The vocal reminds me of Jessie Ware. #34 Dan Le Sac ft Scroobius Pip I am not sure if this would be classified as dance or indie electronica but it is an excellent tune, never heard it before, reminds me of Mylo - Destroy Rock and Roll a bit. #39 Feels Like Home - Meck ft Dino Much different to Thunder In My heart but still an excellent tune imo really deserved to do better than #39. Don't remember it from the time but sounds like a nice mix of indie and dance, samples Felix's Don't You Want Me from 1992. A certain song also sampling that tune might make dance number 1 on a future 10s dance thread. #16 Sunblock ft Sandy - Baby Baby A 00s eurodance group paying homage to a 90s eurodance group, this is a cover of Corona's 1995 song of the same name which in turn was a cover of an earlier 1991 song, babe Babe by Joy and Joyce. I think I do slightly prefer this version (although I like both) because I like the grinding synths in it. According to wikipedia it is the same singer as the original, which is confusing to me as I thought Olga Maria De Souza was the singer from Corona I think I may remember this Sunblock version from the time, not sure though. Sadly it was the end of Sunblock making the UK charts. I do wish they would have done a completely original song (ie not a remix or cover) in their style of dance that could have made the charts. Reminds me of my Spanish girls Also, did you realise you had another one to do or what? Your Spanish girls? There is a song that reminds me of holidays more than any other and its from 2007 too, but sadly it doesn't make dance number 1, but I will mention it when the time comes. No I just did it anyway as I thought I would make up for taking too much of a break before uploading the last one. I actually don't remember Destination Calabria much from the time, I remember it later being played on the weekend dance song on my local radio station and I liked it then. I still do, but that sort of jazzy vocal isn't really my sort of thing, the same with the vocal from Seamus Haji ft Kayjay's 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life'. The next song on our list at dance number 1 is a return to electro house and one I actually really like now! |

Don’t mind Alex Gaudino now, I really disliked it at the time. I much prefer ‘I’m in love’ than DC anyway!

Don’t mind Alex Gaudino now, I really disliked it at the time. I much prefer ‘I’m in love’ than DC anyway! 'I'm in Love (I Wanna Do It)' I thought was nice enough at the time, although I was still in my 'cool' stage at that point having gone off most chart music in favour of metal. Now listening to 'I'm In Love (I Wanna Do It)', it sounds very nostalgic to me, despite the fact it is only 7 years old. Now definitely up there with 'Let You Go', 'Seek Bromance', 'Stereo Love' and at the more crazy end of the dance scale 'Take That' as my favourite dance tracks that made the chart in 2010. I hope we do the 10s dance number 1s thread after, certainly 2010 to 2015 had its fair share of excellent imo dance tracks making top 40 at least even if a few of the dance number 1s in the early part of this period particularly will be a bit a bit poppy or novelty. I preferred 2011-2012 more at the time because of the progressive house, drum and bass and dubstep tracks, but am starting to really appreciate more of 2013-2015's chart dance now, despite not being a fan of much of it at the time. |

Destination Calabria is brilliant, love the sax sample.
Apologies for me forgetting about this, thanks Snake for filling in (wish I'd have done that for when you were tardy ) |
