Right, so way back in 2004 I started doing a top 5 chart simply called 'Personal Top 5'. Every Sunday/Monday I would write up a new chart using Word, wordpad or Excel and this continued from Feb 2004 through to January 2006 (just 2 months before I started posting a top ten on Nowmusic.com). By 2006 though, my mam had bought us a shiny new computer to use and the charts were pretty much forgotten about and abandoned. The old PC they were saved onto was dismantled and stored in the spare room, where it's been gathering dust since

A discussion about old charts recently reminded me of those personal top 5 charts I did, so I decided (with nothing better to do) to set my old PC back up (windows 95 ftw) and see if I could find the charts

Alas, I could not as bizarrely I couldnt find any archives saved anywhere on the system. Most of the things from the computer had been wiped it seems, or saved onto floppy disks which I wasn't able to find. The only thing remaining that I was able to save and transfer over was the list of number ones (theres 49 altogether, from Feb 04 - Jan 06)

I have to admit, I was dreading opening it as I wasn't expecting much in terms of quality laugh.gif, but when I did open it I was actually pleasantly surprised. The odd clanger dropped here and there (Black Eyed Peas, Band Aid 20 at no.1, wtf?), but overall I was actually quite pleased with the songs i'd put at no.1

So after that long-winded life story of an introduction, here's the actual list that I want to share with you all. My current chart owes so much to this chart, and tbh I was surprised to see as much indie at no.1 as there is

<- Original logo, lmao. Worst logo ever

Snow Patrol - Run
1 week: 15th - 21st February 2004
Yeah, i'll take that. Not my favourite Snow Patrol song by any means, but a decent start to my list of number ones

Keane - Somewhere Only We Know
4 weeks: 22nd February - 20th March 2004
Much more like it. Easily my fave Keane song, was chuffed to see I put this at no.1 for a good month happy.gif

Fountains Of Wayne - Stacy's Mom
2 weeks: 21st March - 3rd April 2004
Oh dear god no. Awful, really don't have any idea why the hell I put this at no.1. Shamefully, it isn't even the worst no.1 in the list sad.gif

Maroon 5 - This Love
4 weeks: 4th April - 1st May 2004
They're a bit pump these days but back in 2004 I loved 'Songs About Jane'. This was the first of 3 Maroon 5 no.1s

Keane - Everybody's Changing
3 weeks: 2nd - 22nd May 2004
Keane were probably my fave band of 2004, which explains why this good-but-not-great song topped my chart, and why they have another 2 no.1s to follow

The Killers - Mr Brightside
1 week: 23rd - 29th May 2004
Good song, not my fave Killers track but definately an anthem. Shame it only got one week

Razorlight - Golden Touch
2 weeks: 30th May - 12th June 2004
1 week: 20th - 26th June 2004

Great song, always reminds me of summer 2004. Was surprised to see Razorlight charting back then tbh, but i'm definately not complaining laugh.gif

Faithless - Mass Destruction
1 weeks: 13th - 19th June 2004
Bit of an odd one. Not a bad song, but i'm really not sure why it got to no.1, especially when there were better songs around

Black Eyed Peas - Let's Get It Started
2 weeks: 27th June - 10th July 2004
I have no explanation. Especially not considering it spent two weeks (too many) at no.1

The Streets - Dry Your Eyes
2 weeks: 11th - 17th July 2004
Further proof (if any was needed) that I was deffo on the 'shrooms back in summer 2004. Terrible

Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved
4 weeks: 18th July - 14th August 2004
Not great, but they were one of my fave bands of 04 so excuse it

Keane - Bedshaped
2 weeks: 15th - 28th August 2004
My other favourite band. Not their best song admittedly, but not a band song either

The Libertines - Can't Stand Me Now
1 week: 29th August - 4th September 2004
Quality, one of my fave songs ever. Loved this back in the day, not sure why it only got one week

Embrace - Gravity
2 weeks: 5th - 18th September 2004
I prefer Ashes, but i'm presuming this got to no.1 because there was nothing else around at the time

Green Day - American Idiot
3 weeks: 19th September - 9th October 2004
I can only presume it was the constant airplay that got this to no.1 in my chart, as the song's crap

The Libertines - What Became Of The Likely Lads
1 week: 10th - 16th October 2004
Love this one, was pleasantly surprised to see it in my list of no.1s tbh

U2 - Vertigo
2 weeks: 17th - 30th October 2004
Blah, this isn't great. Got sick of hearing it at one stage

U2 - Vertigo
2 weeks: 17th - 30th October 2004
Blah, this isn't great. Got sick of hearing it at one stage

Keane - This Is The Last Time
3 weeks: 31st October - 20th November 2004
Class song, wasn't surprised to see this in the list as I adored it back in the day

Maroon 5 - Sunday Morning
1 week: 21st - 27th November 2004
3 weeks: 5th - 25th December 2004

Probs my fave release from Songs About Jane, but 4 weeks!? It's good, but not THAT good

Green Day - Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
1 week: 28th November - 4th December 2004
Bette than American Idiot, but still not no.1 material imo. I was a reet little Green Day fanboy back in 2004 blink.gif

Band Aid 20 - Do They Know It's Christmas?
1 week: 26th December 2004 - 1st January 2005
Please god, why? Surely this only got to no.1 because it was Christmas. Shambles cover of an over-rated Christmas song

The Killers - Somebody Told Me
2 weeks: 2nd - 15th January 2005
Not my fave Killers song, but i'm not surprised this got to no.1 as you couldn't escape from it back in Jan 05

Athlete - Wires
1 week: 16th - 22nd January 2005
Loved their Tourist album, i'd regard it as probably the best album I own, this was the biggest release from it. Good song

U2 - Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
1 week: 23rd - 29th January 2005
1 week: 6th - 12th February 2005
One of my fave U2 songs, so it makes sense that this got to no.1, even if it was during a hectic time

The Doves - Black & White Town
1 week: 30th January - 5th February 2005
Loved this song, still do. Surprised myself putting the Doves at no.1 laugh.gif

Stereophonics - Dakota
5 weeks: 13th February - 19th March 2005
Excellent song, I could remember giving it a fair few weeks at the top

Razorlight - Somewhere Else
3 weeks: 20th March - 9th April 2005
Still not sure what I liked more out of this and Dakota, but the Stereophonics won the weeks-at-no.1 war

Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc.
2 weeks: 10th - 23rd April 2005
Great song, was surprised but happy to see it got 2 weeks back in 2005

Athlete - Half Light
1 week: 24th - 30th April 2005
My favourite Tourist release, prefer this over Wires in all honesty

The Killers - Smile Like You Mean It
1 week: 1st- 7th May 2005
I think I preferred this over Somebody Told Me back in 2005, which explains its surprise inclusion in the list of no.1s

Coldplay - Speed Of Sound
2 weeks: 8th - 21st May 2005
I hate the fucking Crazy Frog

Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends
3 weeks: 22nd May - 11th June 2005
I can remember having an unhealthy obsession for the music video to this at the time, which explains its 3 weeks

U2 - City Of Blinding Lights
1 week: 12th - 18th June 2005
Think this was my fave Atomic Bomb single at one point. Good song, anyway

Stereophonics - Superman
1 week: 19th - 25th June 2005
Was very surprised to see this at no.1, good song but no.1?
