Enjoying this countdown so far.
Love 4 of your bottom 5
(Mother is the odd one out, not even I would touch that turd)
also yay revamped countdown
PKN would certainly be in with a shot of being my lowest too, absolutely awful I don't mind the two Bulgarian entries you posted though!
I did the same full songs ranking in 2016 year, only without comments.
Ok just for your info I have added all the songs from 1999 so this is now a Top 683 rather than a top 660. I have updated the info of the first 5 songs to reflect that as well.
I looooove Water Also have a soft spot for Keine Grenzen, some of which is in German and Russian as well as Polish. I've always found it to be quite melodic personally, though I can see that his voice is an acquired taste. 7th for it surprised me too though at the time, though not as much as Alf Poier finishing just above
Mother would definitely be contending for my worst, along with a couple of other Belgian entries - Copycat and With Love Baby, they really were mostly terrible before they found their alt-pop niche a few years back.
Engelbert's song is perfectly nice Radio 2 C-list veteran filler but it definitely shouldn't have been anywhere near Eurovision, I'm not sure what on earth the BBC were thinking with him and Bonnie Tyler really. Both songs were fine but did they ever expect that they'd be in any way competitive, let alone what the public would want, seeing as we had no choice in the matter!
Looking forward to the rest of this countdown
that's an ambitious project!
Water is incredible and obviously much better than Samo Shampioni but I'm smelling some Elitsa & Stoyan racism
Interesting! Agree with most so far. I have a soft spot for "Love Will Set You Free" even though objectively I agree with you.
I've finally seen Elitsa & Stoyan nailed in writing by somebody - you've got it spot on! Literally, I just *don't* get it.
I'm always pleased when I see people detest Suus the way I do. It's honestly a musical exorcism, somebody put the woman down. One of the worst excuses for a song I've likely ever heard.
EDIT.
With Love has grown on me a lot since the show so I definitely disagree with that one. And I shamelessly like Malá Dama, the melody is really on point!

Isn't it funny when someone comes up on Eurovision with a joke entry?
I somewhat ironically enjoy Portugal 2011, it's messy but it's more memorable than most Portuguese entries.
The non-rock entries are awful, Narodnozabavni Rock remains a masterpiece.

"Do It For Your Lover"! I'd probably rank this lower than "On My Way" though not by much. A fair enough bottom 2 for 2017.
I think Raphael Gualazzi is the first one I disagree with being placed SO low. By no means do I love it, but it's not that bad. 2011 was a terrible year (the worst of the decade) and there are plenty of others from that year I'd rank below it.
"We Are The Winners" is on one hand terrible, yes, but on the other is a fun slice of irony with some 80s thrown in there. Of 2006 I wouldn't rank it that low - another poor year with the exception of the cream of the crop (there were definitely some great songs that year asides "Hard Rock Hallelujah" and I agree it's criminal "Congratulations" missed the final. Silvia Night is ICONIC)
Personally I'd rank 'Probka' as the worst entry of the past 20 years, not a single redeemable thing about it. Justice was served when that finished last in its semi final (albeit with 7 points too many).

Oh no! Hello From Mars is one of my absolute favourites from Latvia. Admittedly it scratches the same sort of pleasant itch as Butterflies which I like a bit more inexplicably but F.L.Y is one of the early Latvian greats.
LOVE Utopian Land, Aven Romale and Don't Close Your Eyes but y'all knew that and condemn me for it regularly.
Right choice on No Dream Impossible, that one was abysmal for us.
La Coco-Dance sounds good to me.
2003 was an odd one with the previous year's top three finishing in the bottom three. I don't think Lynn or F.L.Y. deserved to come bottom three at all, I think Hello From Mars is quite anthemic in its own way.
Love No Dream Impossible too, apart from the rent-a-rapper. And don't mind the Portugal song from that year, but it's the first year I really took great notice of the contest and bought the compilation so I have a sort of affinity with almost every song from that year.
Also seems so odd now that Brian Kennedy managed as high as 10th in 2006 in the televoting era with that track. It didn't exactly stand out, though I appreciate Una from The Sats being on backing vocals there.
Nearly everything else mentioned here so far is indeed awful.
Hints for the next 5 (to be revealed tonight):
2008, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2017
4x DNQ, 1x Top 15
4x Countries losing their first entry
2x not sung in English
Raphael is very underrated~

Glad to see "Attention" eliminated early on though I actually feel it deserves to be even lower! It was ATROCIOUS. Lithuania have yet to send anything good or better as far as I'm concerned. "Eastern European Funk" is probably their best to date.
"My Friend" I'd imagine would be in the 300s for me. Also is there actually any proof of his homophobia? Perhaps it was internalised
The other 3 from this section I've forgotten so they can't have made much of an impression on me!
Hmmm. Perhaps he's trying to make up for that... he must surely know there's a huge cult LGBT following at Eurovision as well.
Anyway I'm thoroughly enjoying this countdown and I'm agreeing with most of it so far. I think we have fairly similar opinions (at the moment anyway!)
why did you look at me when you said that
Nah, it was definitely me. What with me having declared My Friend the best entry since Euphoria (which it completely is) and all.
Attention is an utter mess though, definitely agree with you on that.

I adore Era Stupendo, for me it has a soaring, gorgeous melody, particularly towards the end, I was really disappointed it DNQ'd.
Surprised Josh Dubovie didn't come lower Surely our worst ever entry, a complete abomination straight out of the Pontins holiday camp bluecoat auditions rejects pile circa summer 1988. Josh's final note was so bad and the performance was cringeworthy, amazed it wasn't a nul pointer.
I thought Josh Dubovie's entry was Pete Waterman's fault? Absolutely ABYSMAL. We've had some stinkers this century but that one is even worse.
Yeah it was Pete Waterman Utterly horrific either way ofc. I can't believe that in the 21st century, anybody thought it was a good idea to contact Pete Waterman for a Eurovision entry when that sound went out of date in the early 90s! We've had some stinkers, some bores and just some misguided entries that went a bit wrong, but that is by far the worst thing we've ever sent, genuine embarrassment. Even Scooch at least was sort of Eurovision level cheese rather than totally dated and cringe, Rich's description is spot on.
I'm glad you mentioned Scooch, Liam - I thought that was embarrassing af

Okay I was with you until you placed the magical "Amar Pelos Dois" one place higher than the hilariously awful "They Can't Stop The Spring".
"Un Blodymary" was un blodymess wasn't it?
Sorry I just really don't get the hype behind Salvador. I honestly don't understand how this song won in 2017 when there were SO many superior songs. It's just SO boring I literally cannot bear listening to it the whole way through lmao.
If it was really just a boring song then it wouldn't have come anywhere near winning for a country that had never even had a top 3 finish in nearly half a decade.
On this occasion I think it's you missing the magic somehow Maybe you'll find it eventually!
Move swiftly on to the next block of 5 to avoid any more embarrassment hahaha!
Dervish will no doubt be Top 50 on my list. Way too amazing and even that unfortunately ~tuneless~ performance cannot change it.
I occasionally listen to the studio version of They Can't Stop The Spring, it's perfectly lovely for what it is. I'm always going to like anything trad Irish.
Her live vocals though...that point they got in the final was one too many, woeful. You still get the impression it would have been a top five 10 years earlier though, the 90s juries would have been all over it.
I actually voted for C'est Ma Vie in its semi-final, can't remember exactly why now but it's still pleasant to me. And I really like Amar Pelos Dois, it's all rather lovely in a La La Land jazz bar scene sort of way. Guess those Disney-esque songs will always hook me in.
Are we listening to the same "They Can't Stop The Spring"? Top 50 from 1999-2017? Have a laugh
(We are all entitled to our own opinions yadda yadda)

That Belgian entry was truly horrific! It made my ears bleed.
The Estonian one I found middling from that contest - at the time anyway - not sure how I'd feel now!
i don't remember how any of these go apart from the 80s coming back. oops
Love Power is dreadful, argh Belgium were so awful for so long.
I don't mind 80s Coming Back but not disappointed to see it this low! Without You seemed to be pulling the same trick as Extreme's More Than Words, but it's nowhere near as strong a song. It came 6th in the semi-final somehow and then tanked in the final thankfully, not sure where its semi support went in the space of a few days.

An interesting batch! Can't really argue with "Boom Boom" or "My Turn" - thankfully Czech Republic have FINALLY gotten it with this year's entry. Though let's see what they send next year. If you put all of Czech Republic and Slovakia's entries in a playlist you'd probably continue to think "wtf". (I do love "I Stand" though!)
Did you really think "Tomorrow" could win?! I never saw that coming at all; I was actually shocked it even managed to come top 10. Generic AF.
"Wolves Of The Sea" was novelty fun though I understand totally why it would be hated. If it was an entry now, I'd just glaze over it tbh.
That's really interesting about that Icelandic NF song, it does sound nearly the same. Wolves Of The Sea, I really feel there's a lot of charm to it and I've listened to it many times outside of the contest, it's just a really fun song.
Tomorrow I ended up falling for with the performance, it went completely past me until then, placing it on the decent side of radio-pop.
My Turn is boring trash, glad to see that one out.
Omg, I do totally see where you're coming from I think the Latvian one is more commercial and fun but just imagine those competing together

Haha! You totally took the words out of my mouth about that Lithuanian entry! I'd actually forgotten it existed, it was so BLAND and forgettable. How it made the final I don't know.
Also that DJ Bobo entry was the favourite to win in 2007 prior to the contest - the only time I can think of that the favourite crashed out in the semi - but probably highlights what a bad contest that really was. (Can I remind you of "Water" for a moment?) - poor Verka! Though I actually really appreciate "Molitva" these days too.
Martina was so charismatic though <3
I love me some Le Grand Soir. I still remember playing that song on a cassette during the summer of 2005

I still regularly listen to (the studio version of) Jugarem A estimar-nos, really love it. It reminds me of being at college so I must have been spamming the song a lot at the time, I think the chorus is pretty melodic!
Don't care for any of those other four. 2002 was indeed pretty bad, in an overall bland way. I remember only really liking seven songs that year and of those I probably only return to four these days. But definitely nothing horrible in the line-up indeed.
Now that we have reached the top 600 it's time to go over which years and countries have lost the most songs. Here is how many songs each year has lost so far:
2007 · 8/42 · 19.0%
2008 · 8/43 · 18.6%
2001 · 4/23 · 17.4%
2011 · 7/43 · 16.3%
2003 · 4/26 · 15.4%
2010 · 6/39 · 15.4%
2009 · 6/42 · 14.3%
2017 · 6/42 · 14.3%
2004 · 5/36 · 13.9%
2012 · 5/42 · 11.9%
2006 · 4/37 · 10.8%
2014 · 4/37 · 10.8%
2005 · 4/39 · 10.3%
1999 · 2/23 · 8.7%
2000 · 2/24 · 8.3%
2013 · 3/39 · 7.7%
2015 · 3/40 · 7.5%
2002 · 1/24 · 4.2%
2016 · 1/42 · 2.4%
Probably most surprised at 2002 having lost only one song so far as I usually regard that contest as one of the absolute worst. Not at all surprised to see 2007 and 2008 in the lead as they are easily some of the worst contests. 2016 having only lost one entry so far is no surprise as it's definitely one of my favourite contests yet. Will be fun to update this come Top 500 to see what's changed.

Ouch at Lithuania & Latvia, the two neighbouring countries having lost a total of 12 songs combined. Belgium surprisingly hot on their heels with Poland, Portugal & Cyprus rounding up the top 6. Cyprus definitely being the odd one out as I didn't realise I disliked so many of their songs. Finland so far the only nordic country to have lost a single song so my regional bias is probably shining brightly at the moment lol. Would have expected Croatia to have lost more songs at this point. Monaco & Andorra too lol.
>> For anyone curious I have updated the front page with every song eliminated so far (listed by year).
Surprised you've only lost one of San Marino so far... there must be 3 to come in the 500s I'd have thought, at least!
I disagree re: saying "that's why Andorra never qualified for a final" (unless I read it wrong), they did send some decent entries - I felt "Sense Tu", "Get A Life" and "Salvem El Mon" all deserved to get through in each of their respective contests. They were poor years on the whole (2006 and 2007 in particular).
That Romanian entry was dire!
Also agree that 2001 and 2002 were pretty dreadful on the whole - to be fair though it took until now to lose one from 2002, there are also a lot less entries from pre-2004 due to not having had the semis.
I always forget about Keep The Faith but it is pretty bad, she was essentially making as much noise as she can by shouting her way through it and it didn't come across well at all.
No casualties yet that I particularly disagree with looking back, I have to echo your thoughts about Amar Pelois Dos! Just not my type of music at all, it drones on despite obviously only being 3 minutes and he is really unlikeable due to his whole attitude acting like his song is the greatest thing ever to enter Eurovision and he was so above it all. Sweetheart my ass Each to their own and everything, even winners like say Lordi which I personally don't like I can see the appeal with, but APD is up there with Running Scared in that I cannot fathom quite how it won (well, Azerbaijan buying votes in the case of the latter ). Particularly by such a margin and with the highest points ever, so many 18s etc. (I know the points totals are higher in general now due to the new way of voting, but still). Absolutely baffling for something that sounds like something you'd hear at 3am on Radio 2.
I have to admit I'm surprised at that comment, Liam! You normally seem like you've got your head screwed on... a little too much sometimes
I really love 2001 but it was the first year I properly followed, and bought the CD for, so I guess there's a lot of nostalgia there. I still regularly listen to a good 10-13-ish of those songs, which is good from such a small field!
2001 was brilliant! Greece, France, Slovenia, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Croatia all essential. For me the stage was FAR too big and empty and those hosts were rather dire. All made up by the Aqua interval act though *.*
2002's top 5 was sensational with the exception of the winner. Safe to say that was the first time a gimmick won the entire thing (unless I'm missing something glaringly obvious?). Maybe if Ira had pulled something else out of her dress along with the silver glitter it could've been different.

And there's one of the few Irish entries I'll defend! (along with Dervish, that went well) A bit tacky true, but my kind of tacky.
I wouldn't call Eg A Lif a highlight of Iceland, but I do find it quitey pleasant and melodic. I'll take Nebo being out though, always found that very boring.

Electro Velvet above Jessica Garlick?!?!?
Each to their own I suppose.
A section almost entirely full of my guilty pleasures! I've gone on record as saying Electro Velvet is my favourite 21st century UK entry, although I'm not really gonna defend the live performance, it was indeed a very strong year in 2015 and that did not do the song justice.
That's also my favourite Macedonian entry, I love the chorus line and it's quite an eclectic song. And Suntribe is exactly the sort of rubbish girlband song that I can see the charm in.
Glad there's someone else who doesn't get Come Back (I'm not sure who does, for our best performance of the 21st it's quite forgotten), it's pretty boring.
I really like Come Back and for my sins Still In Love With You
Come Back is very of its time but lovely. It is baffling that it's our best placement since Katrina & The Waves won though!
SILWY is like an embarrassing San Marino last placer but I've got a soft spot for it. I remember me and my mum watching the entry reveal thing on Red Button and thinking that it was like the intro to the program or something, or a joke I agree with Iz though the performance did it no favours and that didn't help when it stood 0 chance anyway. I think they were trying to go for a Caro Emerald kind of thing but botched it so it was never gonna appeal to Europe.
Let's Get Loud isn't that bad but the performance certainly is
Double dose today. Yay.

Catching up on this!!
I can't remember how any of the 600-596 section went... that's a good start!
Poor Eythor Ingi though! One of my favourite Icelandic entries - partly so credible due to it remaining in Icelandic. To have it the lowest of them all! I'm going to guess that Ari will be taking this crown though??
Also I felt "Et Cetera" was one of the songs that missed the 2009 final that deserved it, just about. There are certainly Irish entries I've liked less. I haven't liked many!
I have a strange soft spot for Croatia 2013: I literally had "Mizerja" stuck in my head randomly after that contest. Not quite sure as to why! Still not their best entry to have missed the final though, that has got to be "Lako Je Sve" by Feminnem <3
Oh dear "Dying To Try"! It truly was atrocious - though in another way I again have a soft spot for it! I guess it was dreadful in a charming way, like "Mizerja"?
I have to admit, "Come Back" is actually one of our entries this century so far that I've rated (to an extent). A nice soaring ballad. I must re-watch these pre-2006 contests again to remind myself of our competition though. The 2002 winner wasn't exactly great, was it!
Electro Velvet "Still In Love With You" is another one I have a huge soft spot for I get that it's incredibly cheesy and pretty embarrassing for us to be sending, but it's nothing compared to the direness of Daz Sampson, Scooch or Josh Dubovie's entries. I can imagine this song being the perfect song to dance around with your dog to at Crufts or on Britain's Got Talent.
I wasn't a fan of "Romanca", a bizarre finalist... but it was an era of Eastern-European dominace.
That Israeli entry from Eddie Butler was atrocious: looking back, I hate how from 2004-2007 at least we missed out on some decent finalists due to there being the 'auto-qualifier' rule for top 10 finishers from the previous year.
Keep them coming! I'm thoroughly enjoying this. Are you inserting the 2018 lot in, or are you announcing an update to the top 683 after you've completed this countdown??
First cut from 2018..
No no no at that being so low! Can’t please everyone I suppose my number 6 for 2018.
Him being a dickhead doesn't stop that from being an amazing song/entry/performance.
Oh I know, and you're perfectly entitled to that opinion! I was just sharing mine.

I started off thinking "Mall" was rubbish but it really grew on me after the studio version was announced, and he was one of the top 5 best performers at the contest (vying for number 1 in fact). Also something quite dishy about him but that doesn't affect my reasoning for liking a song
Ari is adorable, bless him, but his entry - or Georgia's which you've also announced - firmly deserve to be bottom 2 for this year I think. Both atrocious. And both placing last in their respective semis, as it goes, I've just realised! My bottom 2 for the year.
I really liked "Light Me Up" but at the contest it was pretty abysmal. I wasn't sad it missed the final. And you have really quite exaggerated the reasons why nice and colourfully I've yet to listen to the song again since the performance, but I was enjoying the track - perhaps with Avicii's passing recently, where I started rinsing his discography, this entry was sounding a bit better.
So Hungary and Albania I rated highly - but you've already said you hate guitar music so it's no surprise you've got them so low!
Poor poor AWS, easily my favourite song from this year... and I also ranked Eugent third I do at least agree with you about Poland being one of the worst this year, probably my third least favourite after Netherlands and Estonia. I gave a listen to all of the DNQs just before the final (as I didn't watch the semis) and there wasn't really much worth listening to there. Iceland's song was sadly pretty crap as well and Georgia was much less interesting than I hoped it would be from the name of the band. x
I mean I do get why people might hate 'Viszlát Nyár' though of course. Screamy metal vocals are clearly an acquired taste. I was actually pleasantly surprised it didn't get more hate on here.
AWS & Eugent I love but I guess I wouldn't have expected you to like. I'll take some more redemption for My Friend too.
Complete rubbish from Poland and Iceland this year so that's all fine.
Thanks for the feedback guys. Not really surprised to see I'm alone on my stance towards Albania and (to a lesser extent) Hungary. Surprised your least favs were the netherlands and Estonia though Bré.
Will try to get the next batch of 5-10 songs tonight. In the mean time the front page has been updated with all the eliminated songs so far by year.
Our post-Eurovision blues are on hold whilst you reveal your countdown, the pressure is all on you
The problem with Waylon for me is twofold in that a) I absolutely HATE that style of country music and that hideous accent in general and b) this is even worse because it comes across as extremely fake and inauthentic, fair enough if an actual deep south country musician is making that kind of song as it's at least believable, Waylon is going out of his way to sound (in my opinion) obnoxious. It's probably actually my least favourite song in any Eurovision that I've watched (bearing in mind that only goes back to 2009, and I never heard most of the DNQs since then and also never actually got around to hearing most of the 2017 entries as I wasn't able to watch it when it was on xx). Estonia is more the sort of thing I could usually get behind but Elina's voice is just not pleasant, she overdoes it way too much.
I will catch up on the rest of this thread whenever I have a spare moment to read through it by the way, I applaud the emount of effort put into it even if we clearly have some quite big taste differences!! (I mean... I really love 'Amar Pelos Dois' as well and am quite a fan of 'Euro Neuro' and even 'Aina Mun Pitää' too so )
Given the bottom two placing of AWS and PKN I'm actually quite surprised a certain entry (or two) is still in.
I really grew to love 'Mall' after being initially disappointed with the revamp, I'm glad it did well for them in the end (well, 11th for Albania is doing VERY WELL)

I have a grudge against Finland 2000 because it was about one of the worst and blandest entries Finland ever sent and they could have had Nightwish representing them that year. NF juries, man, they need to be taught what 'an exciting spectacle' means and why it can be a good thing to send it to Eurovision and not overrule your country's televote (see also Melodifestivalen 2013).
Otherwise, hurrah at a ton of blandness leaving.

So now that we've reached the Top 600 again it's time to recap the songs we've eliminated so far and the statistics of the years and countries in this thing.

Yup, last time I did this was at the turn of the original Top 600 but now 43 more songs have been cut (including 5 from 2018) and 38 songs from 2018 have been added to the pot so here we are again. In the last recap we had 2002 in the safe zone having lost only one entry but it's lost 6 songs since bringing it to the fourth-highest position here behind fellow early noughties years 2000, 2001 and 2004. 2016 stays safe at the bottom after only 2 eliminations and 2014 / 2015 are not far behind.

Ireland's catching steam quickly and is hot on the heels of Lithuania and Latvia now. Only one new country has lost a song in the form of my own home-country Iceland, which has now lost two songs. It'll be interesting to see which country is the next one to lose a song for the first time. Also who will be the first country to lose all their songs? Right now it looks likely to be either Monaco or Slovakia who have lost 66% and 50% of their songs so far and only have a total of 3 songs left combined but only time will tell.
Let's get started on the Top 600 again.

I remember Angel! It's stood out to me as one of the more addictive songs from as far back as 2001. File next to Latvia's Brainstorm/F.L.Y. <3

So that marks the end of Monaco in this countdown. They had three entries in the past twenty years, all of which were ranging from boring to terrible so I'd be lying if I said I was going to miss them. Their lowest placing entry was 2006's "La Coco-Dance" which featured bad vocals and and even worse melody, which is why it places in my Bottom 50. The chart above shows Monaco's success in my fictional universe where the contest had two semi finals from 2004 onwards and as you can see they almost qualified with their first entry but only because there were so many bad songs that year lol. Overall I will not miss Monaco here but I would be intrigued to see what would happen were they to return to the competition now that song quality has generally become much better. I'd be down for San Marino getting some competition for most hilarious microstate in Eurovision.
I think the approach to Eurovision in the 00s, particularly the further back you go, was completely different then to now so if Monaco were to return, I'd imagine they'd make much more effort. There are countless dud entries in the 00s.
PS I love "La Coco-Dance"
I actually really liked all of Monaco's 21st century efforts
But then I seem to enjoy all the microstate's offerings even when they are objectively terrible.
I LOVE Igranka, sad to see it out already.
FTR I'm not a total hater on objectively shitty entries There will be some that will drift unreasonably far despite being terrible in every way, hahaha.
double dose today as we eliminate more boring 2000s entries

Oh no that's two of my favourite 2013 entries out already! The chord progression on ESDM is wonderful and I actually remember it as quite the moment of 2013 live. Igranka is of course iconic.
I'd be so up for Monaco (and by extension, all of the rest of the microstates, THE POPE INCLUDED) to just come back and faff about with ridiculous entries, no matter the qualification potential.
Igranka is an absolute TUNE and easily the best Montengro entry (that's not saying *much* but still) *.*
Since I'll be driving all day tomorrow, here's my next batch

I can't stand 'what for'...
I remember Belgium being a real guilty pleasure of mine back in 2008. The performance of it on the night was awful though- dressed like a sweet wrapper and totally out of breath practically the whole way through. The staging and her vocals were a lot better at the national selection show.
'Igranka' is the only song I remember since I last commented and that was a bop x I actually came across a different song by Magdi Rúzsa ('Ég És Föld') which I really liked a few years ago though before I found out she was a Eurovision alumnus!
finally an update

It perhaps hasn't aged that well but I loved TSIL at the time, lovely Disneyish ballad <3
Omg I Can't Live Without Music Bless her, the song was so tragic it's like they didn't even attempt to make it remotely good and just plonked her on stage and left her to bomb.
For some strange reason "I Can't Live Without Music" was one of the favourites to win that year.
What an educational bop of a song from MozzarElla. I hope she returns soon to teach us about the rest of the colour wheel <3
getting a little bit more talkative now which tells me we're nearing the end of the entries I'm completely indifferent about.

For comparison here's the current status of all winners in this list:
Alexander Rybak - Fairytale (Norway 2009)
Charlotte Nilsson - Take Me To Your Heaven (Sweden 1999)
Conchita Wurst - Rise Like a Phoenix (Austria 2014)
Dima Bilan - Believe (Russia 2008)
Ell & Nikki - Running Scared (Azerbaijan 2011)
Emmelie de Forest - Only Teardrops (Denmark 2013)
Helena Paparizou - My Number One (Greece 2005)
Jamala - 1944 (Ukraine 2016)
Lena Meyer-Landrut - Satellite (Germany 2010)
Lordi - Hard Rock Hallelujah (Finland 2006)
Loreen - Euphoria (Sweden 2012)
Mĺns Zelmerlöw - Heroes (Sweden 2015)
Marie N - I Wanna (Latvia 2002)
Marija Šerifović - Molitva (Serbia 2007)
Netta - Toy (Israel 2018)
Ruslana - Wild Dances (Ukraine 2004)
Sertab Erener - Everyway That I Can (Turkey 2003)
The Olsen Brothers - Fly on the Wings of Love (Denmark 2000)
558. Tanel Padar, Dave Benton & 2XL - Everybody (Estonia 2001)
716. Salvador Sobral - Amar Pelos Dois (Portugal 2017)
I love 'Vrag Naj Vzame'! That was the first time I watched the semi finals live so I suppose the songs from 2008 do have a nostalgic advantage for me, but I was gutted when that DNQ'd.
'Everybody' certainly isn't a favourite of mine, but it definitely deserved to outlive Marie N in terms of the winners!
--------------------------------
--------------------------------
--------------------------------
--------------------------------
No, not our Ruth! One of my 2014 favourites
Ruth was incredible, definitely a favourite of 2014 She's got such a powerful presence.
Everybody is tragic, my least favorite 21st century winner for sure until APD came along.
Hahaha yeah I figured you'd disagree with that placement but yes it's true, I'm not a Ruthaholic.
Dancing in The Rain is nothing special really, I would put it below most of the other Spanish entries this decade.
I see you share my opinion on Leto Svet, not the worst thing ever, just a thing that exists and is strange but you do you, Estonian middle aged men. Far more palatable than the somewhat similar LT United.
Oh and Flying The Flag is terrible and cringeworthy and had probably done more damage to our Eurovision attitude than any other of the woeful British efforts.
------------------------
------------------------
------------------------
------------------------
Russia 2010 higher than so many great songs. Oh dearrrrr
Russia 2010 is one of the better Russian entries. Not even sorry. But then Mamo is lightyears better so that being out and ANY other Russian entries still being in is... not preferable.

That Azerbaijan entry was ATROCIOUS. I really think you’re being too kind. Utterly bizarre that it managed not only to qualify for the final but make the top 10? RIDICULOUS!
Belgian entry also rubbish.
On the flip side I really like that Andorran entry as well as "Inje".
Heh, to my mind, Day After Day is just rather pleasingly bizarre. Rather that than the soulless dull pop songs with zero identity they've been sending us lately.
"Skeletons" zero identity?? If anything that's had the most identity of any Azerbaijani entry!!
i prefer a new page for this.
Probably gonna get some gasps for one particular cut in this next batch..

Yeah cannot believe Terasbetoni are out already xx
I kinda like the Andorran entry there but to suggest it would fit on a blink-182 album is insulting to my favourite band of all time!
Try Green Day (who I also like, but I do get the comparison really!)
Idk which is meant to be the shock Naviband maybe but I'm not mad at that, it was so annoying and twee.
LYNCHING TIME. But before that...
Terasbatoni is the one I was talking about a few pages back when I said I was really surprised you hadn't eliminated it yet, I love it of course but I thought those shouty vocals would put it right next to AWS for you.
Anonymous is about the best Andorra ever did.
And overall, my god that's a good section. You're wrong
My favourite from 2016, I was so stoked that Cyprus brought light metal back after a near complete absence in the last few years, Somebody Told Me similarities or no, it's a really pumping tune, much more so than even that rather good Killers track.
And my second-favourite from 2017, Naviband is one of the cutest Eurovision entries I've ever come across, rousing and very worthy of being the best song in nearly any year that didn't also have My Friend and I think unfortunately people are actually more towards your line of thinking. In that I think it should be basically as adored as The Common Linnets are and that it isn't pains me.
I'm sure you'll have a good few I like in the top end, I think it was always going to be the case that songs I like would be scattered all over your ranking. My general taste matchup with most Eurovision people is that while my ultimate faves are often controversial, the rest of my top lot is very often what everyone else's is.
Take 2016, while Alter Ego is my favourite, it's followed fairly closely by 1944, If Love Was A Crime, Hear Them Calling and Utopian Land. With Loin D'Ici, Midnight Gold, Pioneer, LoveWave and You Are The Only One filling the rest out. Like, I'd be surprised if NONE of those were in your top 100, even if it's only a couple of them. Don't worry, I think we'll agree on more than you expect.
Oh happy to hear it, some of those are in my Top 100
I probably won't post anything tomorrow or sunday (maybe sunday night) so enjoy this last batch before the weekend <3

So is this based solely on the live performances rather than studio versions as well? "Don't Come Easy" studio version is great - as is the 7th Heaven Remix, which I actually felt would've been the better version for them to enter. But I totally agree, the live performances still haunt me - when I was in Australia a few months ago we kept playing THAT bit from the semi final; it's just so funny (bless him). Painful. A shame.
Don't Come Easy is awful in studio and live form, by absolute miles the worst Australian entry.
Ha Um Mar Que Nos Separa sums up Portugal as a eurovision country tbh, it *could* almost be there as you said but after all that it just flounders in the end and the whole package is pretty nothingy.
Loreen - Euphoria 2012 in Baku. One of the best fo sure
When will this return?
Legit enjoying this thread.
Actually been thinking about reviving this recently. I still have all the data and very much intend to finish this so it's just a matter of when I have the time to do so! Happy to hear you enjoy it!
I'm also looking forward to the return of this! Love the effort and work that goes into making such a thread and can't wait for it to continue.

Sorrryyy. Soon, I promise! Just need to find my Eurovision Mojo again!
It's back!

Damn, I hated that Swedish entry, soooo cheesy in such an awful way without anything redeeming (much like Scooch)! 2007 wasn't a good year.
The Dutch entry was okay in terms of 2001, but another weak year really. 2002 was worse though!
Actually really like that Maltese entry!
So glad this is back btw
Happy to see I still have some readers after all this time ❤️
Baffling that Firelight song came 6th with juries. I know they love Malta but sheesh...they usually hate the folksy stuff.
Impressive work.
I did the same countdown from 2000 to 2016 (without comments, just ranking in the preference order) and spent 3 months.
I think about the update with 2017 and 2018, but for the obvious reason will not post my list here.
About my favourite Swedish entry of the century. Too often their standard pop is so polished and robotic that I begin to dislike it very quickly so something with a bit of a life to it, like The Worrying Kind, is much more addictive. One of my most listened ESC entries I'd say.
And for a ripoff that Firelight song is rather good. The rest, hard pass.
Good to see this back.

There are some songs I know I've heard again from re-watching contests yet don't remember from looking at the titles! Step forward Turkey 2000, Switzerland 2009 and Lithuania 2002 though I remember I wasn't keen on that one.
I found the Maltese entry 2017 really quite dull, though there was certainly worse that year.
DQ seemed incredibly cliched and when compared with Conchita was nothing, however there were some odd qualifiers over non qualifiers in 2007 which was such a weak year. I think that era suffered from having too many auto-qualifiers.
Ukraine 2003 still makes me laugh, so cliched, and dated, but I quite enjoyed it at the time IIRC
The best from this set for me is Andorra 2009. They deserved the final with the majority of their entries, including this one. I guess you don't agree though

Not fussed on the Macedonian or Norwegian offerings in this segment...
I think you totally nailed it re: Levina, and is it really ANY surprise you forgot about Manel? Just how BAD was "Do It For Your Lover"?
I really like "Pokusaj" for pretty much all of the reasons you state! I actually thought it reminded me more of Coldplay "Clocks" at the time, but with the whackiness thrown in. LOVE that bizarre performance. So yeah, pretty cool this one for me, one of my favourite Bosnian entries, and very memorable.
That Demy song is pretty bland and uninspired really, so to see it finish just 3 above Levina says a lot I think. I don't disagree. I don't dislike either song but they hardly stand out do they? It frustrated me when they changed the lyrics of "This Is Love" because it seemed to make it even lamer.

BTW I totally forgot to address this but with the elimination of Haldor Lćgreid we have reached the Top 10 for 2001 (first of any contest to do so) and our contenders for the crown in this year are:
TOP 10 2001
Croatia / Vanna - "Strings of My Heart"
Denmark / Rollo & King - "Never Ever Let You Go"
France / Natasha St-Pier - "Je N'ai Que Mon Âme"
Germany / Michelle - "Wer Liebe Lebt"
Greece / Antique - "Die For You"
Ireland / Gary O'Shaughnessy - "Without Your Love"
Malta / Fabrizio Faniello - "Another Summer Night"
Slovenia / Nuša Derenda - "Energy"
Spain / David Civera - "Dile Que La Quiero"
Sweden / Friends - "Listen To Your Heartbeat"
11. Norway / Haldor Lćgreid - "On My Own" (507th)
12. Netherlands / Michelle - "Out On My Own" (523rd)
13. Israel / Tal Sondak - "En Davar" (551st)
14. Estonia / Tanel Padar, Dave Benton & 2XL - "Everybody" (558th)
15. Lithuania / SKAMP - "You Got Style" (562nd)
16. Poland / Andrzej Piaseczny - "2 Long" (571st)
17. Iceland / Two Tricky - "Angel" (596th)
18. Bosnia & Herzegovina / Nino Pršeš - "Hano" (612th)
19. Turkey / Sedat Yüce - "Sevgiliye Son" (640th)
20. United Kingdom / Lindsey Dracass - "No Dream Impossible" (686th)
21. Portugal / MTM - "Só Sei Ser Feliz Assim" (695th)
22. Latvia / Arnis Mednis - "Too Much" (703rd)
23. Russia / Mumiy Troll - "Lady Alpine Blue" (714th)
As you can see this is fairly accurate compared to what actually happened since nine out of these ten songs actually made the Top 10, but surprisingly the only song missing is the IRL Winner Estonia. Instead we get Ireland's Gary O'Shaughnessy (Yep, Ryan's uncle) who actually placed third-to-last in the real thing. Who are you rooting for to go furthest out of these songs and which ones are you surprised to see still in the running?
The next contest to do so will probably be either 2000 (with 13 songs left) or 2002 (with 12 songs left), but who knows?
There was a time when the only song I liked from 2001 was the Slovenian entry. The songs from Denmark, Greece, Sweden and France have since grown on me. I think 2000 remains my least favourite year represented in this countdown- don't think I revisit any of the songs from it.
La teva decisio is a bit of a bop, more than you'd expect from Andorra and I wish it had got to the final.
Wild Soul sticks out from the last couple of bunches too, not an absolute fave but it certainly didn't deserve to do quite as badly as it did in its semi :/
For those who are curious here are some stats for the eliminated songs so far and the ones remaining.

19 · 2002 · 12/24 · 50.0%
20 · 2001 · 13/23 · 56.5%
So far the year with the most losses percentage wise is 2001 (56.5%), it also has the least songs remaining (10) but the year with the most losses in total is 2007 (19 losses) followed quickly by 2008 (18 losses). On the other end of the spectrum we have 2016 with both the least losses percentage wise (11.9%) and number of cuts so far (5 losses). If we go by percentage, the Top 5 is shaped up by mostly recent years (2012 - 5th, 2014 - 4th, 2018 - 3rd, 2015 - 2nd, 2016 - 1st) but surprisingly 2006 manages to sneak in at number 6 while 2017 is all the way back at number 10 as the lowest placing year of the 2010s.

Moving into the Country department the list has the two extremes at each pole: Monaco in last having lost all of their entries and Serbia in first as it's the only country to not have lost a single entry.
Other than that our bottom five is made up of the usual suspects: Slovakia and Andorra who are severely hurt by having only participated a handful of times. The biggest offenders here are without a doubt the next three who have all suffered big losses: Montenegro has lost 7 out of its 11 entries. Portugal has lost 10 out of 16 songs and with the highest count of casualties Lithuania is only fifth last but with 11 out of 18 songs eliminated already.
In the upper-half we're very Nordic friendly but surprisingly there's only two nordic entries in the Top 5: Denmark (No. 2) and Sweden (No. 5). I think my biggest surprise in the Top 50 (excluding the fact that SERBIA out of all countries is the one with a perfect record lmao) is France having only lost two of its' 20 entries. I was so surprised to learn I liked so many of their entries when compiling this list but they have been consistently at least alright for the most part of the century. Some surprising countries to fail to place in the Top 5 are my homecountry Iceland at No. 13 and Russia at No. 22, both of whom I have usually considered to send quality entries but with some of the deadweight out this early we might be seeing them climb in the coming updates.

Now for the final tidbit we look at the placements. The first thing that pops out to me is the fact that despite having lost 104 entries so far, the Non-Qualifiers are indeed NOT in last place. 21st and 23rd place seem to have had far less luck in this coutndown as they have lost ten entries each which accumulates to half of every song that's placed in those positions. Also in joint last is 25th place though but since this position has only been featured mariginally less it doesn't give as big of an impact as the other two.
Onto the top half. In first place we have third placers who have yet to lose a single song, beating out both the winners and runners-up, even if only slightly. Fourth placers take up their own spot in joint-fourth place but the biggest surprise has to be 26th placers which have only lost one of their 9 entries ("JUST Do It For Your Lovaaaaaah"). Other non-top tenners to place in the top 10 are twelfth placers and fourteenth placers who have great track records still.
While IRL Top 10 placers generally have done well here (combined placing 6th), Tenth placers currently hold the record for worst results out of actual top ten placers as they are in a four-way tie for fifteenth place.

I really LOVE 'Zemrën E Lamë Peng', Albania are so much better when they sing in their own language I've found (Kejsi Tola excepted). It must have been quite a nervous and tense experience for Olta in Belgrade at the time so I think she did very well all things considered.
Those last 3 are really good and way too low bye
eek. Sorry (not sorry). To be fair I'm already way past the line where I actively dislike the songs. Color codes for reference:
Dark Red (#641 - #726) - Strong dislike or just plain hate. Songs that I will actively avoid listening to for whatever reason. Songs that get on my nerves or songs whose popularity I REALLY don't get.
Red (#538 - #640) - Dislike. Songs I'm not fond of but don't piss me off. Songs whose popularity might puzzle me but ultimately nothing that I'm losing sleep over.
Orange (Mid-400s - #537) - Mild dislike. Songs that I don't hate or actively dislike but maybe one or two things about them that I don't like. Songs that have a more negative reaction out of me than a positive one. A lot of songs I just consider boring and/or generic.
Yellow (Early 300s - Mid-400s) - Indifferent. Songs that I neither hate or love. Songs that don't invoke any strong feelings in me but ultimately are just harmless to me. Some songs that others LOVE but I'm just meh about.
Blue (Mid 100s - Early 300s) - Like. Songs that I like but maybe don't LOVE. Songs that I may have rooted for but ultimately preferred other songs from the same year over them. Songs that I'll put on Eurovision playlists and dance to but not listen to outside of Eurovision season.
Green (~50 - ~150) - Love. Songs that I love and listen to outside of Eurovision season and maybe actively rooted for during their season or maybe just learned to love a whole lot more afterwards. Whatever the reason these are just great songs that make me happy for Eurovision.
Purple (Top 50-ish) - Iconic. These are the best of the best. The songs that MAKE Eurovision. The songs that I will always cherish and consider some of the best songs to ever have come out of this contest. These are the timeless classics and the new masterpieces. The songs that deserved to win and in some cases the songs that did win.

Blackbird.
I still have NO idea what happened with Blackbird, absolute madness :/
here's hoping this will finish by May 2019~~
Yes this is definitely not dead and I will never give up on this fully so expect me to finally finish this around ~2024 <3
Since I'm doing this on my mac now you have to excuse the weirdly huge images below, I will fix them once I'm back home and have my PC or something.
Macedonia 2013, Bosnia 2009 and Israel 2010 are all varying degrees of good. Too low
Pred da se Razeni was so underrated, Esma deserved so much more!
Malta 2018's staging was so fabulous in person. Still haven't seen the shows on TV so no idea if it translated as well. Other than that pretty meh
Flor-de-Lis
SAHLEHBRAYTE
this was one of my favourite songs in 2011 in studio form but that hot mess of a performance which I had to rewatch now~
still an ikonec song
Still following this and enjoying it!! Glad it's back!
Shame to see "Blackbird" go so soon. To be honest I wasn't sold on it - until I saw it in the semi final where I found it captivating.
I forgot that Croatian entry existed, was it really only last year?? Same with Malta last year! Completely agree on both accounts. Actually surprised these are higher than some entries you've given more praising comments to.
I also feel Andy Abraham was a little underrated - completely agree with everything you said about it. It was dated, tbf, but at least it was catchy. It suffered mostly I'd think from being on 2nd (I think) and being dated, and we weren't exactly having our most successful period (which still hasn't ended) - still way better than Josh Dubovie though ALSO agree re: Jade! I think the main reasons this performed so well were that the performance of it was professional, and featured Andrew Lloyd-Webber. I think Europe actually had some respect for us for once. Same when we sent Blue. Our 2 best placing entries since we finished 3rd. Molly deserved better, though!!!
I think I like Flor-de-Lis, forgotten how it goes though...!
Thank you for your feedback Moses, I love reading these always, and of course also thanks to my loyal follower Pavel :* Will be posting the next batch today!
Sorry for what? None of my faves have been eliminated in this one gurl
If you haven't noticed I'm not the most pro-Russia person ever to say the least. Also never been a huge fan
So with the elimination of "Gimme" we have now reached the..
TOP 10 of 2002
Croatia / Vesna Pisarović - "Everything I Want"
Denmark / Malene Mortensen - "Tell Me Who You Are"
Estonia / Sahlene - "Runaway"
France / Sandrine François - "Il Faut Du Temps"
Greece / Michalis Rakintzis - "S.A.G.A.P.O."
Latvia / Marie N - "I Wanna"
Malta / Ira Losco - "7th Wonder"
Russia / Prime Minister - "Northern Girl"
Slovenia / Sestre - "Samo Ljubezen"
Sweden / Afro-dite - "Never Let It Go"
Six of these made the Top 10 IRL: Host country Estonia, France, Latvia (the winner), Malta (the runner-up), Russia and Sweden. Croatia, Greece and Slovenia were all top 20 but Denmark was indeed the last placing song in the final this year. Who are you rooting for to go furthest out of these songs and which ones are you surprised to see still in the running?
11. Cyprus / One - "Gimme" (467th)
12. Switzerland / Francine Jordi - "Dans Le Jardin De Mon Âme" (479th)
13. Lithuania / Aivaras - "Happy You" (511th)
14. Finland / Laura - "Addicted To You" (524th)
15. Belgium / Sergio & The Ladies - "Sister" (539th)
16. Germany / Corinna May - "I Can't Live Without Music" (569th)
17. Israel / Sarit Hadad - "Light A Candle" (574th)
18. Bosnia & Herzegovina / Maja Tatić - "Na Jastuku Za Dvoje" (591st)
19. Spain / Rosa López - "Europe's Living A Celebration" (606th)
20. Turkey / Buket Bengisu - "Leylaklar Soldu Kalbinde" (609th)
21. Romania / Monica Anghel & Marcel Pavel - "Tell Me Why" (615th)
22. United Kingdom / Jessica Garlick - "Come Back" (623rd)
23. FYR Macedonia / Karolina Goceva - "Od Nas Zavisi" (635th)
24. Austria / Manuel Ortega - "Say A Word" (644th)
So far we have lost four of the Top 10 in various spots. Most recently Cyprus lost their sixth placer in eleventh place, which sparked the revelation of this list. Prior to that it had been a while since we lost a top tenner from 2002 but Spain, Romania and especially the UK all fell rather early on in the countdown.
Now that both 2001 and 2002 have dropped down to only ten songs, which years are most likely to fall next? It will probably one out of 1999, 2000 and 2003 as they all have thirteen songs remaining. They are obviously at a disadvantage as they have marginally fewer songs than the years that follow, but still the quality of the songs does speak for itself as well. 2005 comes next with twenty songs remaining, followed by 2004 and 2008 with twenty-one songs and then 2007 and 2009 with twenty-two songs. The year with the most contenders left is 2016 which has thirty-five out of their forty-two songs remaining. Coincidentally, the year with the most songs left out of the noughties was exactly ten years prior to that: 2006 with twenty-seven contenders to the crown.
I've updated the first page now to include all the songs of the contest based on year and country in the first posts with the eliminated songs listed separately for anyone interested.
Putnici is in my Top 3 of 1999. I guess I'm all out of luck
next thing you'll be eliminating Marija Magdalena
that's one good reason to stick around then
I actually really like ‘Vertigo' it was definitely good enough for the final, when you consider some of the awful auto qualifiers. (Ditto Silvia Night from that year).
Oh and that FusedMarc one was horrific, possibly worse than 'Attention' was??
Nothing here is really </3 to me but I do have a soft spot for 'Gimme', I must say.
watch my dance is LOVELY. I'm a sucker for traditional greek melodies so this won me over instantly. despite the quite terrible rap. why did they not do it in greek??
Imagine a bottle of milk that was pooped in then stood in the 30 degrees sun for 45 days. Then you freeze it and make a popsicle. Then you feed this popsicle to someone. Whatever eventually gets out (doesn't matter the orifice) is 'I Do'. Genuinely would be my Top 5 worst Eurovision songs of all-time. Just terrible in every way.
nu page
another
Maria Haukaas Storeng does not belong with the others around it! "O Jardim" is also beautiful, though not quite sure where I'd place it among the 726 songs myself...!
"Ding Dong", whilst generic and uninspired, deserved to make the final in the weakest contest of the decade. Some questionable finalists to say the least.
finally on to some bops here
Macedonia 2007, Belarus 2004
and omg that invasion was so cringey. they didn't even react right away lmao. and Daniel definitely looked scared afterwards for a few seconds until brushing it off
Now that Stig Van Eijk is out of the running we've made it to the top 10 of 1999 making it the third year to reach the top ten already.
TOP 10 of 1999
Belgium / Vanessa Chinitor - “Like the Wind” (12th Place)
Croatia / Doris Dragovic - “Marija Magdalena” (4th Place)
Cyprus / Marlain - “Tha’nai Erotas” (22nd Place)
Estonia / Evelin Samule & Camille - “Diamond of Night” (6th Place)
Germany / Sürpriz - “Reise nach Jerusalem - Kudüs ‘e seyahat” (3rd Place)
Iceland / Selma - “All Out Of Luck” (Runner-up)
Malta / Times Three - “Believe ‘n Peace” (15th Place)
Netherlands / Marlayne - “One Good Reason” (9th Place)
Sweden / Charlotte Nilsson - “Take Me To Your Heaven” (Winner)
United Kingdom / Precious - “Say It Again” (13th Place)
So my top ten is fairly similar to the actual top ten. We have eventual winner Sweden here, Iceland’s joint best result Selma, third placers Germany, fan faves Croatia, as well as sixth placers Estonia and ninth placers Netherlands. That means I’ve got 6 of the actual top 10 here and four newbies that in my opinion should have made the top 10 instead. That includes girl group Precious representing the UK, Belgium’s version of Enya, a cute pop song from Malta and so far my biggest disagreement with IRL 1999: second-to-last placer Cyprus. Now onto the rest of the year..
11. Norway / Stig Van Eijk - “Living My Life Without You” (438th)
12. France / Nayah - “Je Veux Donner Ma Voix” (444th) (up 7)
13. Bosnia & Herzegovina / Dino & Béatrice - “Putnici” (463rd)
14. Denmark / Trine Jepsen & Michael Teschl - “This Time I mean It” (472nd)
15. Turkey / Tugba Önal & Grup Mistik - “Dön Artik” (487th)
16. Israel / Eden - “Yom Huledet (Happy Birthday)” (501st)
17. Slovenia / Darja Svajger - “For A Thousand Years” (504th)
18. Austria / Bobbie Singer - “Reflection” (522nd)
19. Ireland / The Mullans - “When You Need Me” (543rd)
20. Lithuania / Aiste - “Strazdas” (599th)
21. Spain / Lydia - “No Quiero Escuchar” (634th)
22. Portugal / Rui Bandeira - “Como Tudo Comecou” (653rd)
23. Poland / Mietek Szczesniak - “Przytul Mnie Mocno” (665th)
Ok lets take a look at the songs falling from the top 10 here. First we have Bosnia & Herzegovina who drop 7-13 for me with a song some of you seemed to mourn. Denmark’s generic pop song also drops a similar height 8-14 but no one was bothered by that. Israel has the highest fall of all here from 5-16 and I’m still quite surprised it was an actual top tenner. Finally it’s Austria’s Bobbie Singer who drops 10-18 and again no one seemed impacted by that result. All of these songs are in the 11th-19th range so there was no song in 1999 that I was just appalled by placing so high but still a few disagreements. All of my bottom 5 songs were rather low IRL (ranging from 17th to 23rd/last) so I’m happy about that.
With the elimination of "Through My Window" I have officially reached my top 100 non-qualifiers! Here they are in all their glory!

1999 was such a glorious Eurovision year. The top 5 was incredible (yes, I even stan the Israeli 9th place X Factor boyband) even if I do think Dame Harlot should've stepped aside for an Icelandic victory OR let's be real Croatia should've won quite easily, not Jon Ola Sand being salty and getting their points docked for future relegation calculation purposes! In fact I only actively dislike Malta and Denmark from 1999, probably my favourite set of entries ever actually.
that balkan massacre tho
the top 2 in 1999 was okay but my absolute faves are of course Croatia, Germany and Bosnia. Slovenia also slayed. I agree that it was a stellar year, I'll need to revisit it sometime soon~
Wait so they docked 1/3 of their score off them? So they were in fact supposed to have what 178 pts?
Only for the purpose of calculating their five year score average, which was used before the semi finals came into play. Her 4th place finish for the archives was kept untainted.
Oh ok so it didn't actually affect their score in that contest then
I’m re watching 2003 tonight - would you please re post your 2003 ranking up to where you are so far?
I actively dislike Rybak's most recent output that quite honestly belongs in the bin because it's TASTELESS TRASH.
Agree that Albania 2015 suffered from being terrible live. The studio version was played by me to death iirc
.
Bosnia '07 <3 I'm a sucker for Balkads (balkan ballad, did I just invent a new word??)
big MEH at all of these bar Ukraine which is ok.
Under The Ladder is meant to be SO much more anthemic than it actually ends up being. Also, still f*** Ukraine xx
to be honest Germany's Turkish population is pretty big so there's that
Love Midnight Gold and thoroughly enjoy Reise Nach Jerusalem!
I got a bit carried away with the Sognu hype at the time. I guess it was favourite as it just stood out above the largely bland field in studio form, but live it wasn't as impactful at all. And I guess we all overestimated that while being different from the rest of the field can often win Eurovision, just as often it doesn't work at all. I do still like the track however but I don't actively seek it out to listen to a lot these days.
I do however still love To Live For Love, and still regularly listen to it in fact but 2001 was the first contest I was ever truly invested in (though I did watch it in both 1999 and 2000) so I have a lot more nostalgic love for it than most people probably do.
I love Silent Storm, one of the best Eurovision ballads because I find that Carl's voice (and the lyrical content) keeps me interested in what's going to happen all of the way through. I think that final chorus is really quite... quietly impactful actually.
Sognu has grown on me a lot since the contest but that is largely because of the studio version and my increased appreciation for opera-pop. It's pretty nice. Meanwhile I completely get your feelings on Vida Minha and One Night's Anger, nice stuff but not that essential.
(aside from Reise Nach Jerusalem, everything in the 5 before that is awful)
sorry for the wait, time for a scandic murder spree
Faulting those poor Austrian ladies for enjoying themselves too much omg #cruelfet

This has stayed relatively consistent in most ways. 2001 and 2002 still keep the bottom two slots only with an added 1999 now which drops 6 spots after losing a lot of songs in the last 100 slots. 2017 climbs a bit higher into the Top 10 while 2011 slides down 7-10. 2016 remains the highest year as the only year with 30+ songs remaining. 2000 and 2003 are likely to be the next to drop to 10 songs as they only need to lose one more song to do that. 2006 remains the only year out of the noughties to place Top 10 and 2011 is now the lowest placing 2010s year.

Quite a lot of changes as we moved into the average tier in the Top 500. Serbia remains the only country to have not lost a single song and Monaco is still the only country to have lost all of theirs although both Andorra and Slovakia remain on their last leg here. Montenegro and Portugal also inch closer to extinction than ever so it's interesting to see if any of these countries lose their final songs in the next 100 eliminations or not.
Some of the biggest drops of the Top 500 belong to Poland (36-43), Israel (32-41), Georgia (31-39), Croatia (26-37), Malta (18-32) and perhaps the biggest drop in the lower half: Belarus (11-25). These have all lost a lot of mediocre songs but still have some very strong contenders left which might hold the competition back for a while. Droping out of the Top 10 now are: Ukraine (9-12) which lost three songs since last count; Norway (6-15) which lost 5 of its' 7 eliminees between 500 and 400; and Denmark (2-15) who were in second place at the Top 500 having only lost one song but now they've lost 6 more. New in the top 10 however are Iceland (13-6), Armenia (16-9) and Australia (15-10), none of which lost any songs since the last count. This goes for all of our Top 4 as well. Some other notable climbers include San Marino (27-13), Romania (23-14), Spain (28-17), Hungary (33-20) and Belgium (39-29) who have all either lost no entries since the Top 500 (San Marino, Hungary & Belgium) or only one song (Romania & Spain) which explains the rise.
The countries with the most losses in the last 100 eliminations are Denmark and Malta with 6 each, followed by Croatia, Israel, Norway and Poland with 5 each. Together they make up for almost 1/3 of all the eliminees since #500.

Not much of note here but interestingly the runners-up are beating both third and first placers even if only by one song. The highest non-top ten position is twelfth followed by (surprisingly) twenty-sixth placers (aka. the absolute last place you can get in the final) which has an advantage since it only has 9 entries but still 7 of those are still in it. The lowest placing top ten position is eighth place which has lost 12 songs so far and the lowest placing positions in total are twenty-fourth placers followed closely by seventeenth and fifteenth placers (who were top 10 last count). DNQ's have now taken the last place after being a bit higher in the last count, but as you can see the difference between DNQ's and twenty-fourth placers is only 0.1%.

With Louisa out it's time for the..
TOP 10 of 2003
Belgium / Urban Trad - “Sanomi” (Runner-up)
Croatia / Claudia Beni - “Vise Nisam Tvoja” (15th Place)
Germany / Lou - “Let’s Get Happy” (12th Place)
Iceland / Birgitta Haukdal - “Open Your Heart” (8th Place)
Romania / Nicola - “Don’t Break My Heart” (10th Place)
Slovenia / Karmen Stavec - “Nanana” (23rd Place)
Spain / Beth - “Dime” (9th Place)
Sweden / Fame - “Give Me Your Love” (5th Place)
Turkey / Sertab Erener - “Everyway That I Can” (Winner)
United Kingdom / Jemini - “Cry Baby” (26th Place)
Now let’s go over the songs that made my top 10 here. We’ve got a few actual top ten placing songs such as Iceland, Romania, Spain and Sweden, along with actual runner-up Belgium and eventual winner Turkey. That makes it 6 out of 10 which is pretty good. The rest are a bit all over the place though with Germany’s gay anthem (12th) and Croatia’s version of Britney (15th) making the cut along with the hilarious Slovenia (23rd) and of course everyone’s favourite UK flop Jemini and “Cry Baby” (dead last IRL). Idk why this gets so much hate because it’s a legit bop lol. The quality is going up now in the Top 10 compared to some of the years we’ve reached this stage for so far but some of these might still go soon. As for the rest..
11. France / Louisa Baďleche - “Monts et Merveilles” (399th)
12. Netherlands / Esther Hart - “One More Night” (421st)
13. Ireland / Mickey Harte - “We’ve Got The World” (451st)
14. Russia / t.A.T.u. - “Ne Ver’, Ne Bojsia” (469th)
15. Greece / Mando - “Never Let You Go” (474th)
16. Israel / Lior Narkis - “Words For Love” (491st)
17. Cyprus / Stelios Constantas - “Feeling Alive” (495th)
18. Portugal / Rita Guerra - “Deixa-me Sonhar” (505th)
19. Ukraine / Oleksandr Ponomariov - “Hasta La Vista” (513th)
20. Norway / Jostein Hasselgĺrd - “I’m Not Afraid To Move On” (520th)
21. Malta / Lynn Chircop - “To Dream Again” (541st)
22. Austria / Alf Poier - “Weil Der Mensch Zählt” (580th)
23. Bosnia & Herzegovina / Mija Martina - “Ne Brini” (645th)
24. Estonia / Ruffus - “Eighties Coming Back” (664th)
25. Latvia / F.L.Y. - “Hello From Mars” (691st)
26. Poland / Ich Troje - “Keine Grenzen - Zadnych Granic” (719th)
Next up, the songs that didn’t make my top 10 but did IRL: The lowest of them all is Poland’s Ich Troje (7-26) which is only 7 spots from being at the absolute bottom of my countdown. Interestingly their comeback in 2006 is still in. Next we have Austria’s Alf Poier (6-22) who I actually think I may have been a bit too harsh on but I’m still baffled this actually placed top 10 IRL. Norway (4-20) is next and wait this actually placed fourth?? #baffling Also out is Russia (3-14) but we all know how that ended.
Slovakia has had a tough ride in Eurovision in the short time that it's appeared. It only appeared four times and failed to qualify all four times. Even if we count its' (lack of) success prior to 1999 its' highest position was 18th in a final in 1996. Kristina has been the sole remaining player for Slovakia for 162 eliminations until finally now. A lot of people consider this one of the most robbed SF eliminees of the century so I'm sure some of you (Pavel) will not be happy to see that I sent her packing but I don't think any of the other three are particularly popular on this website. I personally would welcome a Slovakia return because more countries are always fun and I still have a hard time distinguishing between Slovakia and Slovenia and since Slovakia is about twice the size and population of Slovenia it's surprising that they haven't really wanted to be part of the Eurovision hype for so long while Slovenia has been in 19 of the 20 contests covered in this list. The average placement of Slovak entries on this list is 577th, which places it a fair bit higher than the other eliminated country: Monaco.
47. Slovakia (Avg. 577th)
48. Monaco (Avg. 635th)
leave me alone not even in the top half and above that FANNYello THING. preposterous!
"Leave Me Alone" = one of the best from 2007! Though perhaps that says more about the 2007 contest...
God, Face The Shadow is awful.
Oh I do love Lako Je Sve!
"Adio" I think is way better than middle of the pack, Montenegro's finest for sure
I’m still wondering where all the 'sweet people' have gone
This is on some sort of hiatus now until April 25th or so as I'm going on vacation to LA and Coachella. It's possible that I'll post something while in LA but not likely so we'll see. Until then, the front page has been updated with current stats.
I quite like What If We, particularly the middle eight/key change, though the final 10 seconds of the track sound like they belong to a different song, or rather a breaking news bulletin.
new page (deal with it pav)
I've never known myself to feel such a contrast of emotions from song to song as I do with Donny. I've Been Waiting For This Night is in my top 10 of the last 5 years but Love Is Blind makes every bone in my body cringe. The cartwheel into body roll is simultaneously mesmerizing and repulsive in one go.
I shamelessly love Ireland 2010 Especially the triumphant beat on the final chorus after the key change. GLORIOUS.
Also I didn't get France 2009 at the time, whatsoever, tbf I was incredibly drunk already by song 3, at a uni Eurovision party... but since re-watching the contest 2 or 3 years ago, I've grown to love it. I love that haunting, plinky plonky instrumental and Patricia's delivery. And also the last seconds of the actual performance are GOLD. Classy woman!
Nobody asked but Imma bring this back since I'm in my Eurovision mood again. Starting with eliminating all the 2019 songs that are eliminated before "My Heart Is Yours". Note: That's SIXTEEN songs out TYVM.
Note: "Siren Song" will be included as an honorable mention
I asked but I just didn't tell you I asked! The Eurovision bug hasn't hit me in 2020 yet so I need your help!
Can't even remember how Georgia's goes, but remember really not liking it. Also remember really not liking the Israeli entry too, though did actually enjoy his performance of it on the stage, and how much it meant to him. Both of these were certainly in my bottom 5 nonetheless of 2019.
The other 3 were inoffensive but that's about it, so I can see why you've ranked them poorly.
bye!
but tbh the NF performance was SOOOOOOO much better and I wanted them to go back to the white outfits and bring back all that extra quirkiness from Joăo (the dancer) that he had in March on stage in Lisbon. satin dark green really wasn't aesthetically pleasing to the eye and made it harder to appreciate the song. and that's coming from his biggest loon EVER.
With Roko’s elimination I have now eliminated every Non-Qualifier that did not make it into my Top 100 Non-Qualifiers. That means I have five new DNQ’s in the top 100 while five songs fall out.
Falling Out:
105. “DJ, Take Me Away” by Deep Zone & Balthazar (Bulgaria 2008) [460]
104. “Shame On You” by Tomas Thordarson (Denmark 2004) [454]

102. “We Are The Heroes” by Litesound (Belarus 2012) [444]
101. “Partners In Crime” by Gerli Padar (Estonia 2007) [443]
New in the Top 100 (all from 2019):
Armenia: “Walking Out” by Srbuk
Hungary: “Az Én Apám” by Joci Papái
Latvia: “That Night” by Carousel
Poland: “Fire of Love” by Tulia
Romania: “On A Sunday” by Ester Peony
Omg. Forgot "The Dream" existed can't relate to you at all on the vocal either, that was half the problem for me, just all round awful for me! Sorry!
I grew to really quite like the Belgian entry in the lead up to the contest, then THAT happened on stage. Proper rabbit in the headlights awkwardness, poor lad.
The Portuguese entry I wasn't really fussed with leading up to the contest nor at the contest, yet after the contest it really grew on me and I definitely wouldn't place it that low. Conversely the opposite happened to me with the Danish entry which for some reason I thought was a potential winner when I first heard it, but its twee-ness got to me in the end. Just no, thanks.

Front page has been updated with the current standings of all years. Updating the countries as well shortly.
On Again...Off Again is one of my all-time favourites, I have a lot of good memories linked to it. I even remember sending Julie an email at the time and she replied...the days before Twitter I adored everything Malta sent between 2002-2005, even poor Lynn, they were the most consistent nation for me in that period.
Love What If (even though it's hugely generic, I love the melody and it sounded great 'live in the hall') and Dona, which is a vocal powerhouse.
Agree that 18th seems surprisingly high for Is It Right looking back, it had bottom three written all over it. I do have it on CD single actually, but I was in Munich the week of the contest and got hold of it for cheap.
I loved New Tomorrow at the time, although don't listen to it that much now. It's a bit 'Take That album track' but is quite anthemic.
Yes your eyes are not deceiving you. Dustin the Turkey IS in my top 5 irish entries and he is an undisputed icon. Don't @ me.

Based on your Birgit comment I'm looking forward to seeing where Pernilla places, though on typing this I just remembered that's actually in Swedish - though you still very rarely hear that! I think Finnish is one of the most beautiful languages when coupled with music - along with Icelandic, and Estonian sounds nice too (based on Randajad).
Oh no you did not rank 'Sebi' below bloody Jemini. x

Switch Mariana for Deep Zone and that'd be the same Bulgarian top 5 for me! Also couldn't stand "Samo Shampioni" and still don't really get "Water" either...
“It’s time to put out Dilara’s fire”
She’s a comedy queen too x
Credit to you that you're still going on this ride, I wonder when it'll actually be finished but I'm rooting for you!
first lime green for Kuunkuiskaajat! yay best finnish entry to-date
Well. Even though Eurovision ain't happening I'm still gonna continue with this. Now I have an even bigger window to finish this before the next crop of candidates compete lmao.
I'm still gonna add the 2020 hopefuls at some point though but it's gonna be a bit strange ranking them without knowing what it would have looked like live and where they placed but I'll just look up some live performances if I can lol.
Here's the next five!
DONNY
I hadn't even thought twice about the 'firewall' in "X My Heart" Still, does that really top "tell me where have you been? Why are you late? You smell like lipstick... AGAIN"?
I am so with you on Hannah Mancini's Slovenian entry too! By the time the contest rolled around I was kind of over it, but when it first came out I had it slated as one of my favourites. Kind of generic yeah but it was very modern and different given Slovenia's previous efforts. (See also: "Igranka" for Montenegro) - the Lithuanian song you mentioned ("Something") I'd totally forgotten about, now I remember it was that extremely dull entry, didn't it make it to the final as well?
Yup "Something" did indeed make it to the final :|
regarding those lyrics.. I had never thought about the lyrics from "Drip Drop" but someone should tell Safura she needs to get out of that relationship while she can
