This thread is dedicated to these two great dance tunes! Released within two weeks of each other in 2000.

From what I know these were the only forays into dance music by Spice Girls members and The Spice Girls didn't foray into dance music as far as I am aware.

Dance music was massive in the UK in the year 2000. Trance and UK Garage were two of the biggest genres. Trance was bigger in the north of the UK and UK Garage was bigger in the south of the UK. Victoria Beckham and Mel C positioned themselves on either side of this divide, Mel C's I Turn To You being remixed by trance producer Hex Hector for the single version and Victoria Beckham being on a track with True Steppers and Dane Bowers from the UK Garage genre.

I remember there was a lot of talk about whether Out Of Your Mind would do as well as the recent #1 I Turn To You in the charts (it didn't quite, being held off number 1 by Spiller and Sophie Ellis Bextor - Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) ) and also which one was better. Personally I preferred I Turn To You (Hex Hector remix) which was weird because I didn't usually like trance music much back then. I thought Out Of Your Mind was a bit of a mess and I didn't like the use of vocal effects much.

I think they are both very good now, but I still prefer I Turn To You (Hex Hector Remix)

I totally forgot these two were released so closely together! I didn't know about the Trance/Garage North/South divide in the UK... which is interesting as Mel C is from Liverpool and Victoria from Hertfordshire!

I really like them both... perhaps a little dated now, but still get me moving! I adored Mel C's first album, and the original version of I Turn To You, which was darker and much more 'William Orbit' (although he didn't actually work on that track). As such I think I preferred Out Of Your Mind... I remember first hearing it after downloading it off a dial-up connection (it took about two hours for a 4 minute song!) and was blown away that a Spice Girl would do such a 'cool' track with garage producers!

Out Of Your Mind is easily my favourite VB single, and I think track... It's in my top 5 solo spice songs for sure. I Turn To You is great... but it's the album version that's best for me, far more emotion!

I did not actually realise these two were so closely released next to each other than again don't remember a lot of stuff in 200's laugh.gif

Out of these two songs, I would say I prefer I Turn To You massively because 1. its my second favourite solo spice girls song 2. because I like the dance sort of vibe from it.

I didn't know either until I joined Buzzjack and started doing the 00s dance number 1s thread where some posters mentioned it. Apparently any kind of harder dance (trance, hardstyle, eurodance etc.) did better in the North of the UK in the early 00s whereas in the South garage and house did better.

I never really got into 'Out Of Your Mind' which is incredibly dated (Victoria's best solo foray was 'Let Your Head Go' imo) but I absolutely love 'I Turn To You'. Melanie C knocked it out of the park with her two #1s *.* easily the solo spice with the best material for me.

I remember loving the live performances of 'Out Of Your Mind'. I found Victoria's performances mesmerising.

If Posh had been allowed to dance like this with the Spice Girls, those "untalented" jibes may have been quietened. Shame Geri was in charge of the choreography :-p

I loved 'I Turn To You' for it's meaningful, poetic, somewhat overly-dramatic lyrics - which are very rare in this type of music. But, somehow, it just works.

Out of your mind actually did better than I turn to you sales wise. I turn to you has sold around 360,000 while Out of your mind has sold 400,000. OOYM remains the biggest selling first week sales for any solo Spice single which makes it such a shame it missed out on the #1 spot. If she had released it in the same week as Mel ITTY would probably never have been #1 (just like What I am by Emma...).

I much prefer ITTY I think that is one of THE best solo Spice releases but OOYM is a tune too.

Melanie C has done more dance music with her 'The Night' EP with Jodie Harsh. It has 3 songs 'Sunrise' 'Set you free' and 'Walk away.' They are catchy songs.

personally I've never been a big fun of i turn to you but I am always happy when they got no.1s.
OOYM is much better in my opinion and was a very good start for Victoria, it's a shame didnt get the top spot but actually groovejet is a big classic to me too.
