Julia Michaels – In This Place
Am I a baby pigeon sprouting wings to soar? Was that a metaphor for something more?

Date entered: 24/11/2018
Chart run: 24-18-14-10-8-4-3-3-5-6-5-4-8-10-13-11-10-9-11-16-19-20-21-22-25-35-39-xx [28 weeks]

Commentary

I really enjoyed the sequel of Wreck It Ralph, except I wanted another sequel because the ending didn’t satisfy me much (Vanellope went Turbo). Anyway, the song is basically the dance-pop version of “A Place Called Slaughter Race” by Sarah Silverman and Gal Gadot from the movie.

Hardwell ft. JGUAR – Being Alive
These are the days we'll remember all of our lives

Date entered: 12/01/2019
Chart run: 27-20-12-7-3-5-7-9-13-12-13-9-11-17-15-14-15-16-23-25-34-44-xx [20 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

First Hardwell single of 2019. It featured one of the popular big room vocalists Amba Shepherd under her alias JGUAR. Ryos' remix also reached the top 40 last year, but it didn't go as big as the original. Very interesting that I just found out that Billboard headlined this at their website.

Hardwell & Wildstylez ft. KiFi – Shine A Light
Shine a light and I will find you. Call my name and let it guide you

Date entered: 28/07/2018
Chart run: 3-6-5-7-6-7-10-10-10-13-15-6-8-11-13-19-22-23-22-22-19-20-24-23-25-30-31-30-31-30-31-31-30-27-29-30-31-34-32-36-36-36-38-47-xx [43 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

Let's make it Hardwell 2-in-a-row since he made a comeback this year!
Although it only peaked at #3, “Shine A Light” managed to spend 43 weeks on the chart. It’s Hardwell’s 2nd longest chart run after “Everytime We Touch (Remix)”, which will appear later on. Wildstylez premiered this for the first time at Defqon.1 2018 when he invited Hardwell to the mainstage, then Hardwell premiered this during his last Tomorrowland before he announced his temporary retirement.

The Chainsmokers & Aazar – Siren
Here come the sound of the sirens, get down!

Date entered: 17/11/2018
Chart run: 3-8-11-15-25-26-35-46-xx [8 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

I’m not a huge fan of hybrid trap music, but I got my head shaking when Chainsmokers did that back in late 2018 with Aazar. Of course it won’t stay long since I’m more into big room, progressive, and melodic dubstep back then. The rubber duck sound however, still worked well for me.

Rich Brian – 100 Degrees
It's a hundred degrees, Why you feelin' down? What's the problem?

Date entered: 10/08/2019
Chart run: 41-33-19-18-17-10-9-7-7-8-7-5-3-3-3-4-6-7-10-11-14-15-18-22-33-41-50-xx [27 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

Taken from Brian’s 2nd album “The Sailor”, this song is more poppy than what Rich Brian usually does. It was more popular in SE Asia than his rap stuff (until “edamame” happened). “100 Degrees” seems to be one of the February 22nd 2020 incident victims as well.

Scatman John & Lou Bega – Scatman & Hatman
Everybody scatting, mix it up to the sound of the mambo

Date entered: 31/08/2019
Chart run: 5-3-3-3-4-7-6-7-8-7-6-8-11-10-7-9-13-13-17-19-25-33-37-49-xx [25 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

When Mambo No. 5 met Scatman, it turned into a bop. Such a fun song by Lou Bega with a sample from Mr. Scatman’s legendary song. Unfortunately, it also became the victim of the February 22nd incident as well. sad.gif

Axwell /\ Ingrosso ft. RØMANS – Dancing Alone (CYA Remix)
She's shining in a sea of people, see her smiling

Date entered: 29/09/2018
Chart run: 3-13-19-23-24-28-35-44-xx [8 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

Last single by Axwell /\ Ingrosso before they united with Steve Angello at Miami 2019. The original didn’t impress me much, but the remix by CYA was a huge one.

Alan Walker – The Spectre
We live, we love, we lie

Date entered: 10/08/2019
Chart run: 8-3-6-8-15-22-32-43-xx [8 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

“The Spectre” was released in 2017, but still managed to debut and peak in 2018. Imagine how huge its performance would be if I started my flashback series in 2017. It’s the vocal version of Alan Walker’s popular NCS release “Spectre”. It never really performed well on the radio, but it has got more than 1 billion YouTube views per today.

3 Are Legend & W&W – Khaleesi
Make 'em go insane!

Date entered: 10/08/2019
Chart run: 4-2-5-12-19-28-36-48-xx [8 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

2019 was still the last year Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike got charted. Collaborating with Steve Aoki as 3 Are Legend, they released an old ID with producers duo W&W called “Khaleesi”.

benny blanco & Calvin Harris – I Found You
I cannot say what I'm feeling if I don't know how to move

Date entered: 10/11/2018
Chart run: 10-5-2-3-8-11-15-19-24-28-30-39-xx [12 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

Somehow, I was in love with this tune back then and decided to peak it at #2. It was simple, yet fun. This also became one of the most overplayed songs in Prambors, maybe even more than how many times they played Eastside. The music video was adorable too!

Don Diablo ft. Paije – People Say
Hidden everywhere and no matter what people say

Date entered: 31/08/2019
Chart run: 2-2-3-4-8-8-12-15-14-17-17-18-21-22-23-20-21-22-21-24-32-31-28-35-35-37-45-48-xx [28 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

I used to love future house music too when I started digging out festival music more. Gotta said 2017-2019 was the peak of Don Diablo. “People Say” was one of my favorite songs from his album “FUTURE” beside “Give Me Love”, which was introduced earlier. It could’ve been a TikTok, if the challenge happened in 2020. It went viral for its ‘transition challenge’, when the app name was still Musical.ly.

The Chainsmokers & NGHTMRE – Save Yourself
So call it what you call it, but I just won't be afraid of myself

Date entered: 02/09/2018
Chart run: 2-6-11-16-20-21-24-30-34-37-39-xx [11 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

I mean, I was kinda bored already with The Chainsmokers’ “future bass-pop” sound, so the only songs I enjoyed from Sick Boy were the hybrid trap song and this one. A new school dubstep collaboration with American producer NGHTMRE.

K-391 ft. Alan Walker, Tungevaag & MANGOO – Play
We used to hide under the covers, serenade each other with careless melodies

Date entered: 07/09/2019
Chart run: 2-6-5-8-11-14-13-13-15-10-9-11-12-21-23-30-36-44-50-xx [19 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

“Eurodancer” by DJ Mangoo got sampled by K-391, Alan Walker, and Martin Tungevaag and I really love it. It featured the uncredited singer “Torine”. I think it was the perfect time Alan released this collaboration because “On My Way” and “Lily” went massive in Southeast Asia, thanks to PUBG Mobile. As a result, it peaked at #49 in Daily Spotify Indonesia and was charted at Prambors until the end of 2019.

ILLENIUM ft. Bahari – Crashing
I got myself too drunk on you to drive, so I'm crashing here tonight

Date entered: 09/02/2019
Chart run: 10-14-12-8-3-4-4-2-6-7-12-13-14-15-16-17-22-27-35-49-x-12-1-1-5-40-xx [25 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

ASCEND might be the peak of ILLENIUM because FALLEN EMBERS didn’t sound as good as this. “Crashing” originally peaked at #2, but somehow managed to peak at #1 in 2020 (probably for no reason, I kinda forget). “Crashing” might also become one of the songs that got the benefits from the February 22nd accident.

Blasterjaxx – Children of Today
We are the children of today. We are the ones that got away

Date entered: 27/04/2019
Chart run: 28-24-25-24-21-16-13-12-13-10-14-14-18-2-7-17-21-24-31-34-42-48-xx [22 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

For those who are a huge fan of festival prog house, it's good news for you because the remaining runner-ups are progressive.
Let’s start with Blasterjaxx, who are recently known for their “Narco” with Timmy Trumpet that became Edwin Diaz’s entrance song at Major League Baseball. “Children Of Today” might sound cheesy, but I gotta admit that the drops were powerful and I love this kind of progressive drop! The uncredited vocalist here was “Junior Funke”.

KAAZE ft. Elle Vee – Dark Angel
Will I ever know, where do dark angels go?

Date entered: 12/10/2019
Chart run: 2-5-4-7-12-16-12-8-13-12-16-21-21-23-27-38-44-xx [17 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

Beautiful. KAAZE’s debut album “DREAMCHILD” was my Album of The Year in 2019. You might already know this combination before, when Bøtanikkä sent “Opera”, which surprisingly finished at #18 in the final. Elle Vee’s vocals here were superb and quite cinematic. The drops were emotional and energetic as well.

Matisse & Sadko & Raiden – Light Me Up
If the stars fell out of the sky, would you light me up?

Date entered: 25/08/2018
Chart run: 11-6-4-2--5-9-11-9-11-14-16-17-14-14-21-22-19-21-20-23-26-28-37-49-xx [34 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

The Russian duo Matisse & Sadko teamed up with South Korean producer Raiden and delivered a new classic titled “Light Me Up”. It’s just amazing. The vocals were beautiful too.

Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl ft. Georgi Kay – In My Mind (Axwell Mix)
In my mind, in my head. This is where we all came from

Date entered: 25/08/2018
Chart run: 25-12-9-7-11-16-17-19-17-18-23-27-39-38-47-41-34-34-8-2-2-3-6-7-6-12-17-20-23-24-27-30-39-xx [34 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

Yes, “In My Mind” was released in 2012. But, I don’t think I'd ever chart this song if it wasn’t because of Dynoro. Goddammit, Dynoro’s version was awful. It’s completely terrible. Should I call it “Worst song of Last Decade”? However, thanks to Dynoro’s version that became a Europe hit, Feenixpawl decided to do another great collaboration with Georgi Kay (which will appear soon) and they also won ASOT’s Tune of The Year in 2019 with MaRLo and Mila Josef! laugh.gif

Nicky Romero, Mike Williams, & Amba Shepherd – Dynamite
'Cause I-I-I'm in the stars tonight Burn the sky on. We were born to blaze like dynamite

Date entered: 17/11/2019
Chart run: 17-12-9-5-5-5-4-4-2-3-3-4-9-18-27-40-xx [16 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

Nicky Romero and Mike Williams made a little bit of fusion of progressive house and future bounce called “Dynamite” and premiered it at Tomorrowland 2019. It was amazing, but I wish they used the old vocals instead, which was by Hilda Stenmalm, who was known for her Avicii tribute song “Wake Me When It’s Quiet” with Don Diablo and her songwriting for BTS, Lucas & Steve, Rat City, and LOVA. The song could’ve stayed a little bit longer if the February 22nd accident had never happened too.

Martin Garrix & Justin Mylo ft. Dewain Whitmore – Burn Out
We can light a fire, watch it everglow. We won't burn out

Date entered: 22/09/2018
Chart run: 2-4-4-3-7-10-14-13-18-25-27-31-40-45-48-xx [15 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

Martin Garrix and Justin Mylo made a poppy, yet still progressive tune with Dewain Whitmore Jr., who is known for his Grammy’s Best R&B Album with Chris Brown in 2011 and Grammy’s Best Pop Vocal Album with Kelly Clarkson in 2012. I gotta say this collab is pretty good and it definitely deserved to debut at #2. This year, the three men went for another collab for Garrix’s new album “Sentio” and it peaked at #1!

Nicky Romero & Deniz Koyu ft. Walk Off The Earth – Paradise (Deniz Koyu Festival Mix)
People talk, just let 'em talk. We're better than that. Would you meet me in the high of Saturday night?

Date entered: 03/11/2018
Chart run: 9-4-7-4-2-2-3-6-9-12-13-16-16-16-22-29-30-35-38-43-46-46-xx [22 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

The original version which was much housey was quite decent, but it was Deniz Koyu’s Remix that elevated the song on to the next level. WOTE should make more progressive house collaborations imo.

Martin Garrix ft. Khalid – Ocean (DubVision Remix)
You could put an ocean between our love. It won't keep us apart

Date entered: 28/05/2018
Chart run: 5-3-4-4-2-8-11-15-18-19-16-15-16-17-15-14-16-17-17-13-11-15-18-23-24-25-25-24-28-33-32-35-34-43-43-xx [36 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

It’s such a shame that DubVision are yet to get their first #1 until now. Their remix of “Ocean”, which still sounded massive in 2018/2019, had spent 36 weeks on my personal charts. I had no problem with the original one, but DV’s remix was 100x better! They made another collaboration with Garrix this year titled “Starlight (Keep Me Afloat)” and it was used as Garrix’s new closing set (replacing “High On Life”). But, it didn’t even reach my chart because I thought the chord progression was a little bit generic.

So, this marks the end of the runner-up lists. Next, we are heading to every number ones in 2018 and 2019!

Abah Lala – Gede Roso
Cendol dawet seger 500an gak pake ketan

Date entered: 05/10/2019
Chart run: 1-5-12-21-26-37-xx [6 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

I’ll start this number one list with a local song. “Gede Roso” was a Javanese-dangdut song by an Indonesian singer Agus Purwanto, known for his stage name Abah Lala. It was kinda random to know this song debuted at #1 out of nowhere. Abah Lala’s career had started growing up since. He also got his second number one this year on Indonesia’s Independence Day week.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike & Hardwell – Unity
Front to the back

Another song that debuted straight at #1, which is (shamely) a DVLM song. It’s another great production by Hardwell and it really fit that 2018 Tomorrowland atmosphere.

KAAZE ft. Nino Lucarelli – Eye Of The Storm (Anthem Version)
We are the revelry, in the eye of the storm

Date entered: 21/12/2019
Chart run: 12-1-3-6-5-7-11-14-32-xx [9 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

KAAZE released the anthem version of “Eye Of The Storm” as one of his Xmas presents, mostly because of fans’ demand. This became one of the shortest runs that peaked at #1 and also the victim of the February 22nd accident.

So basically, this accident was a collision between my first ever Crownnote chart, which was on February 22nd 2020, and my last 2018-2020 flashback chart. I didn’t do my flashback reversely from February 15th 2020, but from 2018. You will make your chart run unstable by doing this method.

David Glen Eisley & Bob Kulick – Sweet Victory
And it's sweet, sweet, sweet victory, yeah

Date entered: 15/12/2018

Another song that unexpectedly reached #1 on my chart, but a well-deserved one. Sweet Victory debuted in December in respect of Stephen Hillenburg as a minor hit, but then somehow reached #1 thanks to the worst Super Bowl Halftime Show ever.

PewDiePie, Roomie, Boyinaband – Congratulations
”A congratulations, it's a celebration. Party all day, I know you've been waitin’.”

Date entered: 20/04/2019
Chart run: 1-2-2-6-5-11-15-21-27-26-30-36-46-xx [13 weeks]

Video:

Commentary

It’s the 2nd controversial diss-track by a former active YouTuber PewDiePie. This time, he and his two friends Roomie and Boyinaband ‘congratulated’ T-Series for overtaking Felix’s channel, but ended up overtaking the Indian-based label once again until they made another 10-million gap. I ironically ended up enjoying this as well, for they really represented the voices of independent channels, until YouTube changed their platform system drastically.

Mike Williams – The Beat (Hardwell Edit)
”Dance to the beat like (Whoop, whoop!)”

Date entered: 18/08/2018
Chart run: 3-3-1-5-9-10-7-6-9-14-22-30-37-48-xx [14 weeks]

Commentary

Mike Williams made me insane in my brain 5 years ago, for his first 2 releases impressed me too much that I had to give both of them #1. The Beat is a future bounce song with repeated lyrics. However, it was Hardwell’s Edit that made this song #1. The music video also featured Hardwell as a police officer.

Avicii ft. Aloe Blacc – SOS (Laidback Luke Tribute Remix)
”We could be more than just part-time lovers.”

Date entered: 25/05/2019

Video:

Commentary

SOS was Avicii's first single for his posthumous album TIM. The original managed to debut and peak at #12. However, the big room house remix by Laidback Luke sent it all the way to #1. I still believe the remix is more superior by today.

Imagine Dragons – Zero
"Hello, hello. Let me tell you what it's like to be a zero, zero."

Whoa, who would expected this to peak higher than previous Imagine Dragons songs? C'mon, Zero? Peaking higher than Born To Be Yours and Heart Upon My Sleeve? Not even better singles like Bad Liar, Birds, and Next To Me was charting?

Yes. I loved this song when I finished watching Wreck-It Ralph 2 in cinema. The chorus was so damn catchy and memorable. I think it still deserved to be as high as #1.

Steve Aoki, Showtek, & MAKJ ft. Kris Kiss – Rave

Before Whole Again, I got Rave. Showtek's iconic melbourne bounce type of big room house struck again! Honestly, Booyah, Cannonball, and BAD were still overplayed back in 2019. Though I'm happy Showtek return to hardstyle recently, their big room drops are iconic AF.

Cuebrick ft. IIVES – Kingdom Of Fire (New Horizons 2019 Anthem)

I randomly discovered this at Armada's channel and I instantly enjoyed it. I mean, for an anthem, it's quite proper. However, it's still Cuebrick's only song that reached top 20. I still wish he has something interesting to be released this year!

Alpharock – Stars

More big room house track at Spinnin' Records! It's Stars by Spinnin's former A&R Jeffrey Lens, under his alias Alpharock. It's euphoric and had emotional vocals. If only it had an MV, this would've gotten at least 5M views.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike ft. Era Istrefi – Selfish (Tomorrowland 2013 Aftermovie Remix)
This song is an instrumental

Yes, the song featured Era Istrefi, but it didn't have her vocals in it. The title was supposed to be Yemaya, but it changed for whatever reason. The melody interpolated Toto's Africa in a big room house style. I absolutely love this, despite all controversies about them being ghost-produced.

KAAZE ft. Karra – California Gold (Triplet)
”Dance to the beat like (Whoop, whoop!)”

KAAZE's Triplet (Instrumental) becomes one of his signature track with an iconic melody. It has been mashup'd with many popular songs. The song finally got a vocal version from Karra during the release of his debut album. It would've stayed longer in the chart, if it wasn't because of that February 22nd incident.

In conclusion, it's iconic!
