Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee Lead Hot 100, Ed Sheeran Sets Record in Top Five
5/30/2017 by Gary Trust

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito," featuring Justin Bieber, tops the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated June 10) for a third week. Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" becomes the first song to spend its first 20 weeks on the Hot 100 in the top five.

Plus, Zedd and Alessia Cara's "Stay" and The Chainsmokers and Coldplay's "Something Just Like This," each in the top 10, crown pop radio airplay charts.

"Despacito" (released on Universal Music Latino / Raymond Braun / SchoolBoy / Def Jam / UMLE / Republic Records) leads the Streaming Songs chart for a second week, with 65.4 million U.S. streams (up 10 percent) in the week ending May 25, according to Nielsen Music. It also rules the Digital Song Sales chart for a fourth week, with 137,000 downloads sold (up 19 percent) in the week ending May 25; the remix with Bieber, released April 17, accounts for 77 percent of the song's sales (up from 73 percent each of the two previous weeks).

On Radio Songs, "Despacito" keeps at No. 7 with 88 million in all-format airplay audience (up 21 percent) in the week ending May 28, adding the Hot 100's top Airplay Gainer award for a second week. "Despacito," the first mostly-Spanish language Hot 100 No. 1 in 21 years (its title translates to "slowly" in English), tops the Hot Latin Songs chart for a 17th week.

Bruno Mars' "That's What I Like" ranks at No. 2 on the Hot 100 for a fourth week after topping the May 13-dated chart. It leads Radio Songs for a fourth week, with 164 million in audience (down 5 percent), and tops Hot R&B Songs for a 15th week and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for an eighth frame.

DJ Khaled's "I'm the One," featuring Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, posts a third week at No. 3 after debuting atop the May 20-dated Hot 100. The collab keeps at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (45.5 million, down 1 percent), No. 3 on Digital Song Sales (80,000, up 4 percent) and No. 8 on Radio Songs (79 million, up 15 percent). "One" adds a fourth week at No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart.

Kendrick Lamar's "Humble." (5-4), which topped May 6-dated Hot 100, and Sheeran's former 12-week No. 1 "Shape of You" (4-5) swap spots, with the latter making history: "Shape" is the first song to spend its first 20 weeks on the Hot 100 in the top five, dating to its debut at No. 1 (Jan. 28). It passes Bieber's "Sorry," which ranked in the top five for its first 19 weeks on the chart in 2015-16.

Here's a look at the songs to log the most time in top Hot 100's top five from their debuts (all of which peaked at No. 1 except for "Payphone," which reached No. 2):

20 weeks, "Shape of You," Ed Sheeran, 2017
19, "Sorry," Justin Bieber, 2015-16
17, "Payphone," Maroon 5 feat. Wiz Khalifa, 2012
17, "I Gotta Feeling," The Black Eyed Peas, 2009
17, "One Sweet Day," Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men, 1995-96
16, "Candle in the Wind"/"Something About the Way You Look Tonight," Elton John, 1997-98

Future's No. 5-peaking "Mask Off" rebounds 7-6 on the Hot 100, while Zedd and Alessia Cara's "Stay" returns to its peak (9-7). "Stay" makes the Hot 100's greatest sales surge, as it vaults 13-5 on Digital Song Sales with a 91 percent hike to 67,000 sold, thanks in part to a both a 69-cent sale price in the iTunes Store and the pair's performance of the song on the season finale of NBC's The Voice during the tracking week.

"Stay" adds a second total week at No. 1 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs (2-1) and bounds 4-1 on the Pop Songs airplay chart. On the latter list, the song marks Zedd's first No. 1 (after peaking as high as No. 2 with "Clarity," featuring Foxes, in 2013) and Cara's third, following "Here" in 2016 and "Scars to Your Beautiful" in February.

The Chainsmokers and Coldplay's No. 3-peaking "Something Just Like This" dips 6-8 on the Hot 100, as The Chainsmokers spend a 56th consecutive week in the top 10, a streak second only to Katy Perry's 69-week run in 2010-11. "Something" also takes over atop the Adult Pop Songs airplay chart, where it's each act's second topper: The Chainsmokers first reigned in 2016 with "Closer," featuring Halsey, while Coldplay returns to the top after first leading in 2008 with "Viva La Vida," thus ending a record eight-year and eight-month gap between No. 1s on the survey.

Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Lil Uzi Vert's "XO TOUR Llif3" drops to No. 9 from its No. 8 high and Kygo and Selena Gomez's "It Ain't Me" returns to the top 10 at its No. 10 peak (12-10).

Just beyond the Hot 100's top 10, two songs performed on the 2017 Billboard Music Awards advance: Julia Michaels' "Issues" hits a new high, jumping 14-11 (passing its prior No. 12 peak), as does Imagine Dragons' "Believer," which bumps 20-15, while leading Hot Rock Songs for a 12th week. Plus, Brett Young's "In Case You Didn't Know" pushes 23-19 on the Hot 100 and becomes his first No. 1 on Country Airplay and Gomez's "Bad Liar" leaps 80-27 on the Hot 100, drawing 13.5 million U.S. streams and 36,000 sold following its first full week of tracking.

Meanwhile, four songs debut in the 40s on the Hot 100: Liam Payne's "Strip That Down," featuring Quavo, the chart's top new entry at No. 42; The Voice runner-up Lauren Duski's "Deja Vu" (No. 43); Perry's "Swish Swish," featuring Nicki Minaj (No. 46 [corrected]); and former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello's first unaccompanied solo single, "Crying in the Club" (No. 47).
