BuzzJack Music Forum _ Madonna _ Crave (with Swae Lee) ● Single #2

To that end, “Crave” with Swae Lee will become the de facto pop radio single upon its release, with an official music video to soon follow. Meanwhile, “Medellín” -- which received a global television launch across Viacom networks in April -- will continue being pushed in Latin markets. The decision to lead with “Medellín” instead of “Crave” came down to the belief that it was “the signature track to the body of work, and the right place to start telling the story,” says Thompson. He adds, “I think we have a good shot to get a top five club record with some [‘Medellín’]remixes, and get that song into people’s spaces that they might not anticipate.” (Madonna has notched a record 57 top five-charting hits on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart.)

QUOTE
EXCLUSIVE – We at DrownedMadonna.com are excited to reveal that Crave is planned to become the second single to be released from Madonna’s Madame X album.

Crave is a very cool and eclectic dance track. Someway, Medellín is like a set-up for the big single. Crave is indeed even a stronger single than Medellín.

We don’t have to wait too long for listening to it, because Crave is one of the 4 selected “pre-sale” tracks that will be available before Madame X release.

Precisely, Crave will be available next week, on May 10th, 2019.

Crave (feat. Swae Lee) is written by Madonna Ciccone, Khalif Malik Ibn Shaman Brown and Brittany Talia Hazzard.

Recent reports are indicating 'Crave' is the next proper single, not just a 'pre-sale' track. I've kept this thread separate from a previous thread I made about the second single in case it turns out to be false (that thread talked about the drag queen video reportedly for a disco track, which people who were on set have inferred is for 'Killers That Are Partying') but I'll merge them together should they need to be.

Madonna relies of features so much nowerdays, to think she had so many years without them and now since Hard Candy we can’t get through an era without rent-a-rapper!

Even my deceased grandma can get a "top five club record". It's not really a huge achievement.

Well, I'd bloody hope so since Medellín isn't a very strong single at all.

Posted by: HausofTove May 4 2019, 10:18 AM

And yet her best singles since Hard Candy have been those that don't have features! sad.gif

She's desperate for a hit single tbh.

Apparently this has leaked with these being the lyrics:

[Verse 1: Madonna]
I'm tired of being far away from home
Far walking home, far from where it's safe
Hope it's not too late
Rush, rush, rush, on you, love, love, love on you
Love you like a fool, pull my dress to you

[Pre-Chorus: Madonna & Swae Lee]
'Cause you're the one I crave
And my cravings get dangerous
The feelings never fade
I don't think we should play with this
Said come, come get me straight
I don't think we should wait for this
'Cause you're the one I crave
And my cravings get dangerous

[Chorus: Madonna & Swae Lee]
(Ooh), My cravings get dangerous (ooh)
(Ooh), I don't think we should play with this
(Ooh), My cravings get dangerous (ooh)
(Ooh), I don't think we should wait

[Verse 2: Madonna & Swae Lee]
'Cause I'm just me (yeah), that's all I can be (ooh)
Something real (yeah), something I can feel
You know I just can't change, this is how I'm made
Am I afraid? Take me to the place
[Pre-Chorus: Madonna & Swae Lee]
'Cause you're the one I crave
And my cravings get dangerous
The feelings never fade
I don't think we should play with this
Said come, come get me straight
I don't think we should wait for this
'Cause you're the one I crave
And my cravings get dangerous

[Chorus: Madonna & Swae Lee]
(Ooh), My cravings get dangerous (ooh)
(Ooh), I don't think we should play with this
(Ooh), My cravings get dangerous (ooh)
(Ooh), I don't think we should wait

[Verse 3: Swae Lee]
You're on me, I don't think you should wait (wait)
You're on me (pull up), one pull up away (away)
You're down to ride, ride me like a wave (ride, yeah)
I gave you a sensation (ooh)
Loner, the days we used to chase
It's do or die, and my love life can get crazy (crazy)
It's on the line girl, you're risking everything (thing)
It's over, x-rated

[Bridge: Madonna & Swae Lee]
Ran so far to try to find the thing I let and buried once inside, (side), of (of), me (me)
Ran and ran and ran so fast to think to last and buried once I hear, (hear), you (you), breathe (breathe)

[Pre-Chorus: Madonna & Swae Lee]
'Cause you're the one I crave
And my cravings get dangerous
The feelings never fade
I don't think we should play with this
Said come, come get me straight
I don't think we should wait for this
'Cause you're the one I crave
And my cravings get dangerous

[Chorus: Madonna & Swae Lee]
(Ooh), My cravings get dangerous (ooh)
(Ooh), I don't think we should play with this
(Ooh), My cravings get dangerous (ayy, ooh)
(Ooh), I don't think we should wait

[Outro: Swae Lee]
It's on the line girl, you're risking everything

It has leaked , this is no banger. No way a dance track.

Nice song , can’t see this doing anything.

Swae Lee certainly adds to the track , his vocal suits the song more.

Posted by: Cremey May 8 2019, 06:41 AM

Can imagine Charli doing this, her voice would fit it really well.
Doesn’t work with Madonna’s voice at all.

Our first disagreement 💔

It reminds me of the slower acoustic moments on American Life but with an 808 and 2019 production. I think both her and Swae sound great.

I'm intrigued how both this and 'I Rise' (which is boring) fit into the Portugal-inspired album though.

Posted by: Medellíam May 9 2019, 01:24 PM

Just found a link to the song and, three listens in, it's growing fast. Probably the most melodic out of the three songs we've heard so far but it's got a really chill vibe and subtle hooks. Giving my 'Body Shop'/'Best Night' kinda vibes.

It's not at all what I expected a Madonna and Swae Lee collab would be like. If you feared it would sound very bandwagon-jumping, don't worry. It does feel current but, like 'Medellin', it strikes that balance just right.

Posted by: slowdown73 May 9 2019, 09:08 PM

Another very underwhelming track from Madame x.

Posted by: Medellíam May 9 2019, 11:03 PM

Ninth on Spotify's New Music Friday, like 'I Rise' was.

Posted by: Liаm May 9 2019, 11:48 PM

I really like this on first listen, I can see it growing too! The melody is strong but it's also subtle and leaves a lot of room to grow.

I can definitely hear Charli XCX fitting this too, not to the point of disliking it or it not feeling like Madonna but I can see where that comes from for sure!

Posted by: Jordan Lee May 10 2019, 12:34 AM

I think this is my favourite from the album so far.

I can see why Medellin was the lead as it’s more in your face but this is perhaps better and for UK audiences I think this should perform better than that did at least.

There were rumours just before the era kicked off that there would be two lead singles: one for Latin markets and one for pop radio. I guess 'Crave' fits the latter. This definitely sounds like the sort of song that could be a hit today, although I'm kinda over thinking about chart success now. So long as the music is as good as it has been!

'Medellin' is still my favourite so far but I could see 'Crave' overtaking in the end, especially if it has another cinematic video that lifts the song further. Her voice is so romantic and emotional, possibly the best it's sounded on record for sometime!

He’s bit is still the best but in the song. I’m not sure holding back the official videos is helping the peak position .

Medellin is still my fav , but this is better than Rise.

I love this!!!

It's the urban, smooth and polished Madonna that I adore.

Swae Lee is incredible on it too.

Posted by: Cucumberella May 10 2019, 07:46 AM

it’s quite cute. don’t quite get the affectations in madonna’s voice in places. i don’t think anything she’s put out this era is that great though. it’s the kind of thing that even if it’s not a deliberate trend chaser, it’s something that could’ve and probably has been done better by someone else 😔. the main thong the album is missing for me is identity.

I'm quite worried about this album if the tracks she's released so far are what she feels are the best representation of it.

Press release from Interscope:

QUOTE
Madonna today released “Crave” featuring Swae Lee and co-produced with Mike Dean and Billboard. The infectious pop gem, co-written by Madonna and Starrah, is the third track of five songs to be previewed before her highly-anticipated new studio album Madame X debuts globally on June 14. Following the release of the critically-acclaimed “Medellín” and the empowering “I Rise,” additional songs to be shared with fans include the Jamaican dancehall vibes of “Future” featuring Quavo on May 17, as well as the sonically innovative “Dark Ballet” on June 7. To listen to “Crave,” visit HERE. The music video for “Crave” is coming soon.

Madonna announced earlier this week her Madame X Tour, a series of rare and intimate performances taking place exclusively in theaters in select cities. Demand was so overwhelming, additional shows have already been confirmed and are available for ticket request alongside the original shows through Friday, May 10 at 11:59pm ET. In New York, 12 shows are confirmed at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House on September 12, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 28 and October 1. In Los Angeles, nine shows are set at The Wiltern for November 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 21, 23, 24 and 25. Shows at the Chicago Theatre are on October 15, 16, 17 and 21. The Madame X Tour will also visit Las Vegas, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Lisbon, London and Paris.Dates and details on those cities to come in the near future. Tickets and further information is available at madonna.livenation.com. Here is a link to a video from Madonna about the Tour: https://madonna.lnk.to/TourVid.

Influenced creatively by living in Lisbon, Portugal over the past several years, Madame X is a collection of 15 new songs that celebrate Madonna’s career-long affair with Latin music and culture as well as other global influences. Singing in Portuguese, Spanish and English, Madonna collaborated on Madame X with longtime producer Mirwais, as well as with producers Mike Dean and Diplo, among others.

Of “I Rise,” NME says the song, “is politics and positivity combined,” while Rolling Stone calls the song, “Uplifting” and Billboard says its, “Powerful.”NPR says, “Medellín is a carefully dosed combination of…coolly narcotic dance-pop…and energetic reggaetón,” while Entertainment Weekly declares the song is, “A breezy, summer-ready anthem…” The Guardian says, “Medellín is a potent reminder of Madonna’s deft history of meshing genres.”

Madame X from Live Nation, Interscope Records and Maverick will come in a standard and deluxe version of the album and is now available for pre-order. Album pre-orders include a download of “Medellín,” “I Rise” and “Crave,” which is available across Apple, Spotify (pre-save), Amazon and all DSPs. Exclusive album pre-order bundles with limited edition merchandise are now available direct from Madonna.com.

Rumours are that Madonna was filming the music video earlier in the week, which is why she wasn't at Met Gala. Swae Lee filmed his parts the day after - I'm not holding out hope that they share scenes together but I at least hope that it was filmed to look like they were at the same place at the same time.

can’t see this doing anything , although I like it . He’s bit totally makes the song. She has said it is inspired by Portuguese fado music.

For people that hate her having features she has not done much to correct this on this campaign . She has said in interviews how she was going back to her roots and not worrying about others and the machine .

Single one featuring Medellin
Single two featuring Swae lee

Future feat Quavo is being performed at Eurovision !

Lovely review from albumism:

QUOTE
The weekly rollout of Madame X singles continues as Madonna drops her third with a sleek and sexy trap-dusted pop gem, “Crave,” featuring Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee.

Produced by Billboard (“Ghosttown”) and frequent Kanye collaborator Mike Dean, and co-written by Madonna, Lee and American songwriter/rapper Starrah, “Crave” begins with a slightly processed acoustic guitar and then slowly ripples into a fluttering, sultry, mid-tempo love song that finds Madonna hungering for her far-away beau, declaring “You’re the one I crave / My cravings get dangerous.”

Lee fuels her fire with sexual innuendo (“You’re down to ride, you ride me like a wave”), which only brings them closer together as the song progresses. Their beautifully-paired vocals dance around each other until Madonna lets Lee end the song with a warning: “It’s on the line, girl, you’re risking everything.”

“Crave” is a satisfying, repeatable listen, and of the three singles released so far from the upcoming Madame X (due June 14th), it’s by far the most radio-friendly offering. Madonna sounds mature, vulnerable and emotionally present—vocal characteristics that were, for the most part, missing in her last three albums.

In a recent Billboard interview backstage at the BBMA’s (which you really need to watch in its entirety because she’s having a great time), Madonna said she wanted to duet with Lee on her upcoming fourteenth studio album because, “I think he’s a great writer, a great singer and he’s so cute.”

Yes, people, in the Madame X era, “cute” is important (Hello, Maluma!) and the playful, flirty, and sonically curious Madonna is back.

The line about her vocal is what stands out to me when I listen to the song. I hope there's more moments like this on the album.

Posted by: Medellíam May 15 2019, 01:57 PM

I like! Not as big budget or eventful as 'Medellin' was but it's got nice little concept and Madonna looks smoking! Think 'Girl Gone Wild' in the way it makes the absolute best out of what it had. Swae Lee actually feels like he's part of the video even though he doesn't share scenes with Madonna, which is the least I was hoping for.

Madonna dancing to the camera reminds me of 'Nothing Really Matters'.

https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8514460/madonna-earns-best-ac-chart-debut-crave-swae-lee:

QUOTE
Madonna achieves her highest debut on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, as "Crave," with Swae Lee, launches at No. 19 on the June 8-dated tally. The song arrives as Madonna's 37th AC entry, dating to her first, "Borderline," in 1984.

The Queen of Pop logged her prior best AC start in her most recent visit before "Crave," when "Ghosttown" opened at No. 21 in April 2015. As the latter song peaked at No. 18, Madonna boasts back-to-back top 20 AC hits for the first time in 20 years, since "Frozen" (No. 8 peak) and "The Power of Good-Bye" (No. 14) charted consecutively in 1998-99.

The AC chart ranks titles by weekly plays on a panel of 85 adult contemporary stations monitored by Nielsen Music. (The survey has contracted from 50 positions in the '80s to its current 30-rung depth.)

"Crave" is from Madonna's album Madame X, due June 14. The first taste of the set, "Medellín," with Maluma, reached No. 18 on the Hot Latin Songs chart, Madonna's best career rank on the survey, and became her record-extending 61st top 10 on Dance Club Songs.

"If you didn't know it was Madonna, you might think it was Ariana Grande or Alessia Cara," says WWLI Providence, Rhode Island, program director Emily Boldon of the song.

Notably, Interscope Records has serviced a Madonna-only edit of "Crave" to adult radio. "About half [of Cumulus]stations playing it are playing the duet version with Swae Lee, which, even for AC, is a hooky rap," Boldon muses.

"'Crave' took me a few listens, but now it's stuck in my head," says Brian Demay, pd of Cumulus-owned WRRM Cincinnati, who notes that the station is playing the Madonna-solo version "only because our listeners don't know who Swae Lee is.

"This song is legit. It's not campy or nostalgic. It sounds like 2019. Madonna has reinvented her sound yet again."

"'Crave' sounds great on the air," Boldon echoes. "You don't have to sell it as 'new Madonna.' It stands on its own as simply 'cool new music.' "

'Crave' is being sent to Italian radio on August 2nd (Google translated):

Madonna & Swae Lee - Crave (Radio Date: 02-08-2019)

MADONNA
“CRAVE”
(WITH SWAE LEE)
Radio dates 2 August

After the Latin imprint of "MEDELLIN" with MALUMA: Gold record, Top 10 in the radio ranking, over 31.5 million streams on Spotify and 35 million views on YouTube , is the time of the ballad with the hip-hop touch "CRAVE". The new single from MADONNA extracted from the album "MADAME X".

The song is in collaboration with the young rapper SWAE LEE and explores, in an intimately provocative way, the theme of desire that leads to a potential harmful relationship.

No I think around 2012, when he never would've dreamed he'd get to work with her! He's lucky he deleted all of those kinda tweets before anybody outside of Twitter noticed

Crave Tracy young radio remix

It’s ok . Sounded better on second listen so hopefully it continues to grow !

Posted by: HausofF Sep 23 2019, 07:34 PM

Not a fan of the remix - sucks out all of the smooth vibes of the original.

Posted by: vibe Sep 24 2019, 07:03 AM

The club remix is better !!

Posted by: Jordan Lee Sep 24 2019, 12:25 PM

This isn’t a highlight on the album for me at all.

There’s much better than this on Madame X.

Posted by: Medellíam Sep 24 2019, 10:38 PM

I really like the production of the remix! A little unsure of whether it works with the song itself but that could be due to being so used to the chillness of the original.

Certainly one of the better remixes we've received this era.

Crave reaches No. 2 on Dance Club Songs in the chart for week of 9 November, 2019. The Madonna & Swae Lee song debuted at No. 37 thanks to the remixes by DJ Tracy Young, that inspired the live version performed on the Madame X theatre show.

The tune first moved up ten notches for two consecutive weeks, then more promo mixes by Benny Benassi and BB Team helped it enter the Top Ten.

It then went to No. 6 and is now at No. 2 thanks to more promo remixes by RNG, Twisted Dee & Diego Fernandez, Otto Benson and Dan De Leon & Anthony Griego. This is Crave‘s sixth week on the Billboard chart, that is compiled from reports from a U.S. national sample of club DJs.

The Dance Club Songs chart does not count streaming and downloads, but it’s great that all these fantastic remixes have been finally commercially released two weeks ago as a Crave – Remixes Pt. 1 EP.

Next week #1?
