I don't think we have a thread for the Christmas Chart discussion yet so here's one! Created in light of the following news:
http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/christmas-number-1-2015-to-be-announced-live-on-top-of-the-pops-and-bbc-radio-1__12403/
Streaming is going to be insane this year and with the tracks getting a full week of streams I could feasibly see half the top 10 full of Christmas songs
It'll be the most Christmas-song filled chart for quite some time I think! A full week build up and with streaming I'm sure many Christmas songs are going to do great numbers. Hoping Leona's "One More Sleep" will go top 40 this year - with a full week build up to Christmas and her strongest day (Christmas Eve) included. Signs point to her doing much better this year than last with the song on most Christmas spotify playlists and being featured on compilations including Now! Christmas.
Wizzard for a top 20 return plz thnks.
I expect to see a straight fight between Louisa Johnson and Justin Bieber for Xmas #1, unless something crawls out of the woodwork.
Wizzard and Shaky top 20 please or a bit higher and Mariah for top 5!Would also love Andy Williams, East 17, Kelly and Boney M to benefit. Although unlikely with the latter 3 lol.
I hope 'Underneath The Tree' gets a new peak this year. I'm loving that it's on disc 1 of Now! Christmas.
Could be a definite viewers increase if Top of the Pops reveals the Christmas number 1 first, even if the midweeks are more accessible these days, round the perfect time of day too with everyone preparing Christmas lunch!
Mariah/The Pogues could actually be top 5 contenders if streaming's high enough, first time since what, 2007? Guess it depends what else is out etc.
I think the biggest streaming day for Xmas songs was actually Christmas Day itself last year as people listen most on the big day itself rather than downloads which people bought in the buildup throughout Nov/Dec?! Not 100% sure but if so the sales will still be split.
Anyway great to see there's a full 3 hr show which as Joseph said will hopefully mean a full top 40! And at a much better time of 10am-1pm. After 1pm they usually begin to start airing recorded shows from the yr past and the Xmas songs come to a halt until next yr.
Hopefully not another dreadful X factor song at Xmas number one.
Yeah, it's going to be 50% Christmas songs I imagine. Driving Home for Christmas and One More Sleep had massive Christmas eve boosts last Christmas eve, but it was wasted due to the fact there were days after the Christmas free-fall before the chart. Mariah and Pogues will probably be top 5 I imagine!
Current Odds (William Hill)
X Factor Winner 4-5f
Eagles of Death Metal 5-1
Justin Bieber 6-1
Star Wars Theme 6-1
Adele 8-1
NHS Choir 12-1
Cilla Black 16-1
John Lennon 16-1
Kylie Minogue/James Corden 20-1
Aurora 33-1
Billy Fury 33-1
Oasis 33-1
One Direction 33-1
Sam Smith 33-1
Shirley Bassey & Blake 33-1
The NHS Choir or Kylie/Cordon would be a good xmas no1!

I'll be streaming Slade all day long on Christmas Eve then
Shaky has competition from himself this year! To mark the 30th anniversary of the release of Merry Christmas Everyone he has recorded a new version which has been released today. As well as the download there is a CD single available.
Thats right i forgot to add that. Is it the same track tho? Will the CD single be available in HMV or just from his website?
Re-recording and brand new catalogue number so sales will be split! The CD is on Amazon and should be on general sale. Proceeds go to the Salvation Army and aparently will be available from their shops too but I'd imagine those won't count towards the chart.
Heh heh, I'm sure I could listen to Slade, Mike Oldfield, Johnny Mathis, Greg Lake and Jona Lewie ten times a day until Christmas.
The campaign (and the madness) starts here!
Get that Santa Baby top 40 please for Kylie Xmas.......
just a quick question. How does an album get a stream in the chart? Do you need to listen to whole album all the way through at the same time for it to count?
this year is totally open
surprised there's no charity record or some campaign to get a random song to #1
Im kinda thinking that if Louisa wins XF she will be #1 for 3 weeks so will be Xmas #1
hopefully they are combined, as more people are gonna buy and stream the original I imagine so with the new version it could peak higher this year than it normally would.
Yeh I've no doubt radio 2 will playlist it in December tho!
Has the Xmas No.1 started to fade into irrelevance due to the X Factor's dominance of the last decade? Nobody seems to be releasing anything as a realistic competior to X Factor and the media don't seem that bothered about the race this year.
With X Factor releasing the week before the Xmas chart this year it would have been the perfect opportunity for a few major contenders to have a real battle, but there's nothing...
I wonder if the facebook campaign to get the Star Wars Theme to number one will inform people they have to stream the track a lot as well
Any sales-based competitor will need to overcome a streaming deficit worth 50-60k going by recent figures. I wonder how quickly the X Factor winner will pick up streams? If it sells something like 70k downloads and 15k streams in its second week (I can't imagine it's going to be a huge streaming smash) then something like Bieber could edge it out with 60k streams and 40k downloads.
I expect the X Factor Winner will be #1 this year. I'm not keen on the Eagles song at all so I don't want that to be #1. Getting the Star Wars theme to the top would be rather amusing but having Adele get it would be a bit boring IMO.
Aurora's song would be a great #1 though!
Grace would be Christmas #1 in an ideal world
If I were to put money on anyone right now it would be Justin Bieber. His streaming is insane so he should easily overtake the X Factor winner in her second week
6/1 does seem like a good price for Bieber.
I have no idea how many sales the X factor winner will open with, ratings are down so much this year but Louisa does seem very popular.
All I know is that it looks like it will be incredibly BORING at the minute. 2003 is such a distant memory.
