GBBO will be interesting considering its the first Christmas episode, its obviously the penultimate episode to air on the BBC but the Comic/Sport Relief episodes have never done anywhere near as well as the regular series. I think Doctor Who is against Emmerdale. Obviously Doctor Who has its die hard fanbase that will watch live, but Emmerdale has been holding stronger year on year than the other two major soaps as well as having the most buzz surrounding it. Will definitely be interesting to see which wins the slot.
I imagine Eastenders will out rate Doctor Who, although the odds are stacked against it, given it airs as 9:30pm and against Maigret. |

It is weirdly addictive, in a ‘so terrible you can’t look away’ way. At least it is not the car crash that was Mad About Alice which is without doubt the worst sitcom of all-time.
Looking forward to Charlie Brooker's 2016 Wipe and the The Entire Universe, as well the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures which I always end up watching. |

Looking forward to Witness for the Prosecution, after last year's adaptation of And Than There Were None, which I was very impressed with, looks like BBC1 are adapted Agatha Christie Books to the small screen every year during the festive period. Unless this is to tie in with marking 100 years since Agatha Christie wrote her first crime novel.

Personally I think it will be Bake Off vs. Frozen! Mrs Brown's Boys is on quite late this year, so I can't see it topping the night.
In fact I'll be bold and do a top 10 prediction: 01. Bake Off - 7.4m 02. Frozen - 7.2m 03. Mrs Brown's Boys - 6.2m 04. Corrie - 6m 05. Strictly - 6m [I think they'll be very close, could be the other way round] 06. Eastenders - 5.7m 07. Call The Midwife - 5.6m 08. Doctor Who - 5.6m 09. Emmerdale - 5.5m 10. Maigret - 5.1m I'm interested to see how close I get! I'll be hugely surprised if anything on ITV comes close to the top. I might be underestimating Call The Midwife but I just can't see that many people sitting through 90 minutes of it on Christmas Day. The Frozen / Bake Off pairing will really help other out which is why I think they'll be the top 2 by some margin. In terms of what I'm looking forward to, only really Bake Off and Eastenders. I'm looking forward to finally getting round to watching The Lady In The Van though! |

Frozen will get good ratings for a film - 7m definitely seems achievable - and Bake Off will have its dedicated audience on top of people tuning in for sentimental value of it being the penultimate episode on the BBC (although it won't bring in the same ratings as the series did; 7m nevertheless seems perfectly in reach).
Tbh, those predictions seem pretty good to me! However, I'm unsure whether Doctor Who and Emmerdale will be able to bring in pretty much the same ratings when they're on at the same time. I feel people would be more inclined to catch-up on Emmerdale, so I fear it could end up with comparitively underwhelming ratings. I feel like Mrs Brown's Boys is the type of show that could bring in solid ratings regardless of what time it was on. |

We all know how successful Bake Off is, but perhaps it'll see a similar dip in ratings that Strictly gets from its seriea to its special (about a 3m dip, so still like 7m) and Frozen is one of the most popular films, so its premiere should get more than the typical 5/6m that films in its slot get. However, you can just not predict these things for sure as to what they'll rate on the night. I imagine both could get 9m+ with official 7 day data.

20 quid on Frozen would get me £260 back. Oh the DECISIONS
 EDIT: Incorrect. The maximum you can put on Frozen is £8.33 to which I'd get £108.29 back so I've done that seeing as though it's only 8 quid. Also placed £20 on Bake Off to which I'd get £68.01 back. And that's my final flutter of the year

Tbh Frozen is a good bet to win the night. Im sure Downton Abbey won the night last year with 6.9m and the Christmas film usually averages 6m, and you'd think Frozen was popular enough to get 7m, so could easily win the night.
