16/02/2016

01 Zara Larsson - Lush Life [16-10]
02 Jason Derulo - Get Ugly [12-12]
03 Ellie Goulding - Army [20-18]
04 Coldplay - Hymn For The Weekend [23-21]
05 Twenty One Pilots - Stressed Out [34-22]
06 Adele - When We Were Young [33-24]
07 G-Eazy - Me, Myself & I (feat. Bebe Rexha) [40-35]
08 Sia - Cheap Thrills [122-40]
09 Viola Beach - Swings & Waterslides [xx-41]
10 Selena Gomez - Hands To Myself [54-50]

11 Birdy - Keeping Your Head Up [64-51]
12 Mike Posner - I Took A Pill In Ibiza [69-52]
13 Fetty Wap - 679 (feat. Monty) [55-53]
14 Alan Walker - Faded [58-55]
15 Rick Wakeman - Life On Mars [xx-60]
16 Little Mix - Love Me Like You [76-69]
17 The Chainsmokers - Roses (feat. Rozes) [75-75]
18 Flo Rida - My House [95-95]
19 Rudimental - Rumour Mill (feat. Anne-Marie & Will Heard) [111-101]
20 Selena Gomez - Same Old Love [107-107]

not liking the appearance of '679' and 'Love Me Like You' here, there should be some sort of recurrent rule to stop long running non-top 10 hits from appearing here every time they experience some sort of climb.

also it seems that being a non-mover is good enough to be considered 'trending' too.

I don't really understand how this works. How on earth is Love Me Like You in the top 20?

I don't get the second figure, it's almost the position in the mids but not quite... Viola Beach here at #41 but #39 in the mids

Trending isn't a very scientific word anyway.

I think tracks that have peaked months ago should not be eligible for this chart

It's good to see that the chart stretches down to the official 100 mark.

It's supposed to cover Monday's sales as well, i.e. today's mids. If that is the case, Viola Beach at number 41 makes even less sense.

because it's climbed in the mids from where they were in last week's official chart and the song didn't peak in the top 10.

it's really silly to include it though. clearly the OCC needed more test runs of this chart because it's not half perfect

Maybe its based on increased sales/streams? So Zara would have gained the most sales/streams on the chart compared to last week? Rather confusing though.

Oh that makes sense, but doesn't from their point, it had an increase because of GN, but it's a 4 month old single now, you can hardly call it trending. :eyeroll:

Liking the inclusions of G-Eazy x Bebe Rexha and Mike Posner, but some of the additions are questionable

because Secret Love Song is in the top 10 and thus ineligible.

this seems like a vehicle to list the tuesday midweek climbers rather than be a true trending chart~

I'm slightly confused at why it says #41 for Viola Beach? If they were #39 yesterday, they won't have fallen after the huge increases on iTunes unsure.gif

QUOTE
How does it work?
  • The Official Trending Chart will rank all tracks which are climbing the Official Singles Chart since the previous week’s chart, ranking the tracks in order of sales / audio streams (100 streams being equivalent to 1 sale).
  • It will be based on data collected for Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday and published on Tuesday, three days before the Official Singles Chart is unveiled on a Friday.
  • The chart will limit each artist to just two tracks each – to prevent the chart from being dominated by multiple tracks from a brand new superstar artist’s album.
  • It will only count “new” tracks – in other words, tracks which have never been Top 10, which have been released within the past 24 months, and have 52 chart weeks or fewer to their name.

I assumed this was going to track "trending" on social media like one of the Billboard charts which looks at social media mentions and general interest on the internet and increasing discussion for songs etc unsure.gif I think that would've made more sense, this just seems totally pointless unless i'm missing something.

I also thought I could use this to discover loads of new music that was slowly creeping up the charts but it's just all the hits I already knew that haven't made it big yet lol.

24 months... mellow.gif that's hardly new, and 52 chart weeks or fewer is broadening the gap a bit mo. Kind of pointless.

I think this is just Monday mids data but with somehow just a tiny bit of less data, either some missing or early cut...

it' clearly not Tue data cos Viola Beach would be higher and it's not Mon data + streams cos They wouldn't be in the same position

A good idea, badly executed. And as soon as you have a dip in sales you're out.

But you can go back in if you have a jump in sales too.
