Sweden
Benjamin Ingrosso - Dance You Off

-----------------------

Well another year is almost over. HURRAH I hear you cry. Yes, it's not been a great year. The songs haven't been bad but the PRESENTERS! We can only hope Christer is banging down Gina Dirawi's dressing room door at Idol AS WE SPEAK.

We've actually ended up with a pretty decent final all things considered. I've done a very brief (and I mean brief) precis on each of them along with some stats, all of which were correct at the time of posting. All the YouTube views come from the uploads on the official Melodifestivalen channel.

01. Méndez - Everyday

William Hill odds: 16/1 (projected =6th)
YouTube views: 605,000
Spotify streams: 2,818,317

Precis: Cashing in on the 'Despacito' wave but without the young twink.

02. Renaida - All The Feels

William Hill odds: 66/1 (projected 12th)
YouTube views: 489,000
Spotify streams: 1,555,173

Precis: A song that any other country* would kill to have as their Eurovision entry is about to be largely ignored by the jury and public alike.
*Royaume-Uni

03. Martin Almgren - A Bitter Lullaby

William Hill odds: 25/1 (projected 9th)
YouTube views: 71,000
Spotify streams: 660,889

Precis: Who even remembers this? Deserves last but won't be.

04. John Lundvik - My Turn

William Hill odds: 13/2 (projected 4th)
YouTube views: 136,000
Spotify streams: 991,545

Precis: The song that lost all of it's potential audience when FELIX SANDMAN qualified last weekend.

05. Jessica Andersson - Party Voice

William Hill odds: 16/1 (projected =6th)
YouTube views: 159,000
Spotify streams: 853,366

Precis: Our saviour who stopped the gays from topping themselves after yet another FAB FREDDIE lip sync.

06. LIAMOO - Last Breath

William Hill odds: 6/1 (projected 3rd)
YouTube views: 134,000
Spotify streams: 1,379,361

Precis: The pre-contest favourite that failed to live up to the hype but will still do alright.

07. Samir & Viktor - Shuffla

William Hill odds: 16/1 (projected =6th)
YouTube views: 1,200,000
Spotify streams: 2,418,349

Precis: The bop that turned even the coldest of hearts but won't be taken 'seriously' in the grand final.

08. Mariette - For You

William Hill odds: 10/1 (projected 4th)
YouTube views: 228,000
Spotify streams: 1,090,853

Precis: The other-pre contest favourite that failed to live up to the hype but probably won't do well.

09. FELIX SANDMAN - EVERY SINGLE DAY

William Hill odds: 11/4 (projected 2nd)
YouTube views: 311,000
Spotify streams: 2,536,710

Precis: Ex cake baking boyband member doing REAL MUSIC and being a REAL ARTIST yet you don't mind it.

10. Margaret - In My Cabana

William Hill odds: 40/1 (projected 11th)
YouTube views: 1,900,000
Spotify streams: 2,259,192

Precis: The Polish Pop Princess who came to save Sweden from a mess of a year after being rejected in her homeland.

11. Benjamin Ingrosso - Dance You Off

William Hill odds: 5/7 (projected 1st)
YouTube views: 430,000
Spotify streams: 1,773,580

Precis: HIPS, ASS & ARMS.

12. Rolandz - Fuldans

William Hill odds: 28/1 (projected 10th)
YouTube views: 699,000
Spotify streams: 1,195,037

Precis: Shit.

JOIN US as National Final season comes to a dramatic end this weekend. The show will be live on svtplay.se at 8pm CET this Saturday, 10th March.

Where did the odds predict Robin to place last year?

My ranking:
12. Rolandz - Fuldans
This isn't even funny, but maybe I just don't get it because I'm no swedish idk.
11. Martin Almgren - A Bitter Lullaby
I fell asleep just imagining myself listening to this borefest again.
10. John Lundvik - My Turn
How is this projected 4th? My god this is so boring.
09. LIAMOO - Last Breath
Poor man's G-Eazy doesn't quite impress me.
08. Benjamin Ingrosso - Dance You Off
Ok but not nearly as great as everyone is hyping it up to be. I really don't get the hype. Very forgettable.
07. Felix Sandman - Every Single Day
It's cute but like with Benjamin I don't get the hype at all.
06. Renaida - All The Feels
I like this but the lyrics are a bit cringe. The beat is really cool!
05. Jessica Andersson - Party Voice
Generic and cliché with lame lyrics = I'M SOLD <3 This is such a cheesy mess and I love it.
04. Margaret - In My Cabana
Summery and catchy but doesn't scream Melfest winner to me. I'll def listen to it for a while as Margaret knows how to make a dancey bop!
03. Méndez - Everyday
lmao yeah I got major Despacito vibes from this but my damn if it doesn't work. Really catchy and I think it actually could do very well in Lisbon if chosen.
02. Samir & Viktor - Shuffla
I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't expecting much but I absolutely ADORE this. Such a bop!
01. Mariette - For You
This is Mariette's best in my opinion. Don't get the hate as it more than exceeded my expectations *.*

i think mariette has ended up being my biggest disappointment this year...given the songwriter behind it / her whole package, to forget to include a chorus is unforgivable

SAD!

Two songs I dislike are topping the odds which isn't good but it would continue Sweden's trend of sending boring and/or unlistenable male pop for a fourth year in a row (with fricking FRANS topping that particular four-year ranking :/) so I would not be surprised to see them on top. Or the even more shit My Turn for that matter. Neither feels like it's totally run away with it though.

Very hard to pick between Mendez and Rolandz as my two favourites in this final, both would be hugely fun bops and it's great I'll see them bookending the final, although obviously Everyday has a little bit more of a chance. And then there's In My Cabana which is brilliant too.

I mean, I like 8/12 of this lot so it's a fairly good final. Fairly similar to most of the other finals I've been around for really.

Benjamin Ingrosso and Renaida are my lock-in faves this year - LOVE them. I don’t think Renaida will come last either (I mean she’ll probably come 9th). Also have a weakness for Party voice. Even Samir & Victor haven’t disgraced themselves. Mariette is good in a 7/10 kinda way, bit like most, I’m disappointed and I think it’ll come around 5th (juries will be more enthusiastic I think).

A Bitter Lullaby is truly horrific.

Floored at the possibility of a Benjy/Felix top 2, it'd be the best possible outcome for me. It sounds too good to be true so I'm not getting my hopes up laugh.gif

Every Singe Day is ABHORRENT. I despair if that wins, it'd be as bad as Frans. Dance You Off is growing me quite rapidly, ofc now that happens, it isn't gonna win laugh.gif For You, Shuffla and Party Voice are my top 3 in that order but I dread to think how they're gonna perform.

I'd be happy with Dance You Off winning, as it's really slick and catchy and sounds like a smash, and Every Single Day has plenty of its own charm and would stand out.

But I'm growing concerned at the hype around My Turn, it's nothing more than an ok X Factor winner's single from 2005 and certainly NOT the sort of thing Sweden need to send to Eurovision, plenty of other countries provide dated overblown ballads of this nature.

I cant envisage juries nor public swaying massively towards this. I agree its Eurovision by-numbers from yesteryear. It's Ben or bust.

Last year;s genrep for comparison's sake;

QUOTE(AdamAloud @ Mar 10 2017, 11:05 PM) *
The final genrep result of the year:

1. Wiktoria – As I Lay Me Down 100 röster/votes 17,42 %
2. Nano – Hold On 95 röster/votes 16,55 %
3. Robin Bengtsson – I Can’t Go On 83 röster/votes 14,46 %
4. Anton Hagman – Kiss You Goodbye 53 röster/votes 9,23 %
5. Benjamin Ingrosso – Good lovin’ 43 röster/votes 7,49 %
6. Mariette – A Million Years 33 röster/votes 5,75 %
7. FO&O – Gotta Thing About You 33 röster/votes 5,75 %
8. Owe Thörnqvist – Boogieman Blues 30 röster/votes 5,23 %
9. Jon Henrik Fjällgren & Aninia – En värld full av strider (Eatneme gusnie jeenh dåaroeh) 29 röster/votes 5,05%
10. Lisa Ajax – I Don’t Give A 27 röster/votes 4,70 %
11. Ace Wilder – Wild Child 26 röster/votes 4,53 %
12. Boris René – Her Kiss 22 röster/votes 3,83 %

So it probably better tells you broad trends than specific rankings (like last year, Robin, Wiktoria and Nano were all tightly the top three on both nights).

Wierdly, the one who that poll is probably the best news for is Mariette. The makeup of the genrep audience is usually families and young people and her being able to beat Felix in that demographic is probably a good sign. Given I think she may likely be the jury pick, she just needs to build up enough of a lead on there that she can probably win from 3rd or 4th on the televote given how closely they'll be bunched together.

My strong sense though is still that it's Benjamin (and his hips') to lose.
