Not too much has been heard from Romania yet, although it is believed that Selecția Națională will return once again - most likely in late February or March 2016. The only piece of confirmed news we do have is that Mihai Trăistariu has announced his intention to submit a song called "Paradisio", and he has already launched an online social media campaign to promote himself ahead of next year.
Tornero was really good, so I'd like to see Mihai return - although Romania's best entry in recent years was of course the fantastic 'Zaleilah'!
Just confirmed from TVR, Songs announced on February 11th with the Semi Final on March 4th, Final two days later.
This seems to be the song that Mihai has submitted. Tornero it is not.
I don't mind that actually, a few tweaks and a good perf will be all it needs.
Yeah I like it too, I just think the background music needs turning up a bit and maybe a bit more power after the amazing 2:15 to 2:40 section to give it that proper dance anthem feel.
THE VIDEO!
THIS MAY BE THE MOST SHITMAZING THING EVER MADE
Graphics and music straight out of an arts student's half baked space themed final year project in 2002.

Is that Hayley Evetts of Pop Idol fame???!!
Brucknell AGOG
I can't with Hayley Evetts entering and sending this trash.
ovidiu anton and jukebox sound like something Iz would love so they are basically doomed. not that they don't already sound tragic.
mihai's song leaves me deeply underwhelmed. i mean all this hype and selling house for THIS excuse of a chorus?! and no money note?! slap in our faces
never too late sounds like a revamp of that awful 2014 song i had the misfortune of watching perform LIVE in CPH.
'i've got no money, i've got no career'. How VERY appropriate! trash on a whole new level. oh dear. whoever wrote this song must've thought it was innovative and kewl for eurovision...? WHAT. i really cannot even begin to CAN'T EVEN
vanotek and andra's songs sounds the best of them all so far. that production in the instrumental chorus part is really fabulous.
You know how to pick them Pavel *.*
Jukebox sounds potentially very iconic. Would be a fun mess although it gets a bit crap in the second part of the song, if the whole song was the first part I'd be very on board. Ovidiu isn't getting anywhere but my, the true POWER in that voice He must be right up there with the best power rock balladeers this contest has had.
Vanotek sounds very good, I'd be happy with that. And Andra actually, that sounds quite playful and fun, very... Adelen actually. Paradisio sounds underwhelming indeed.
just got moment of silence on repeat now don't mind me
Hayley Evetts
Finally something good from Romania
Moment of Silence won the semi Oh gosh. I hope that puts it in with a good chance of being the entry, I haven't properly adored a Romanian entry in years.
Czech Republic tried and failed to succeed going down that route last year so this would be tragic
First Romania DNQ. I say GO FOR IT
I was put in mind more of Hour Of The Wolf melodically (especially in the verses) than Hope Never Dies. Plus he has a striking voice. It might have a hard time, true, but I would prefer this to Mihai tarnishing his legacy.
Well Ovidiu won the jury vote in the semi-final, he hasn't yet faced a televote as the top 4 jury favourites automatically qualified. Televoting has been Ovidiu's downfall in previous years so we'll have to see if it is again this year!
M I H A I currently second last in the live televoting, Ovidiu winning by twice as many votes to the 2nd place song :')
Ovidiu wins :')
It's just baffling really. They had Vanotek and Florena 2nd and 3rd that were both great representatives of the Romanian music scene, shown by the fact they have one of the country's biggest music labels behind them, and they pick this which you'd find in a bad musical theatre production.
That said Romania had nothing amazing to offer, but there were better choices than Ovidiu. He'll get through to the final as it's in the second half of the second semi, but if this was in the first semi it'd be Romania's first DNQ.
Thankfully, bar absolute craziness, next week's national finals should provide two solid entries at the very least so there will be no repeat of this weekend (bar Juri who was a good pick). Hopefully the internal selections over the next week can provide the 3 or so more amazing songs that this year is missing!
And you can't just blame the televoters as the juries thought this was the best choice the other night too!
Lmao goodbye final
oh god :')
This is shaping up to be one hell of a drab Eurovision 2016
I don't even care what any of you say, it's a total tune, his voice is captivating, they're gonna glam it up, and I'm still going to have them on to qualify.
(also I think this is the one time in 2016 NF season where my favourite actually won so, let me have this)
TWIST: Portugal didn't withdraw and is competing disguised as Romania.
This is awful in a way the Portuguese "expert jury" would be completely cumming all over it.
I can't remember Portugal ever sending anything remotely like this? Even accounting for the different language.
Unless you're just equating awfulness with Portuguese in which case, accurate for them (not for this).
Maybe there IS a reason for me to ever bother with a Portuguese selection then
Music video for Iz's pleasure:
Yes, hand gesture some more, you beast Ovidiu. Winner right here.
I am actually really liking the drama of this at the moment...
...*Hides, using Iz as a human shield*
Looks like they've changed their mind and gone with a dubbed version of the live performance:
They've been kicked out!!
Oh wow, I didn't think they'd actually kick them out of this year's contest, especially a week away from rehearsals!
#ComeTogether
They probably gave them extension after extension after extension to pay up. Oh well, it frees up another space for a song that will almost certainly be more deserving (please NOT be Belarus!).
Wow Good news for Nicky Byrne, Lighthouse X and the Polish guy, who I have teetering on the edge of qualification.
Good riddance. 43rd on my rankings and easily the worst Romania brought to the game.
not a huge loss but still sad. although the ocd-ridden me is glad the semifinals are now equal~ imagine is they were drawn in semi 1 oops. i wonder if the running order will be changed now
DAAAAMN
just lost all my words I wanted to say
so sad they're disqualified my favs at the moment
Well reading that was like a knife to my heart.
Seriously, I think that's ruined Eurovision for me now.
Very shocking news and I really do feel sorry for Ovidiu who has done lots of pre-parties and of course tried so many times to represent Romania and only finally made it through this year. That said, TVR shouldn't have ignored 4 previous demands for payment and I imagine the EBU would've been lenient if TVR had just got in contact considering they allowed them to ignore the EBU 4 times.
Letting them stay would've been unfair for countries who are using up a big portion of their annual budget to take part. TVR had an emergency meeting just now and say they have no solution, but doing this has at least stopped them ignoring the situation so I guess it was something that had to be done. The timing is awful however I guess the EBU tried to leave it as late as possible, I don't think they are in the wrong for doing this.
This was my least favourite song in the semi so I'm glad their inevitable qualification spot has been opened up. I imagine if Romania do ever return - probably under a different broadcaster - Ovidiu will be internally selected like Dorians were for Armenia in 2013.
i think this is a sign that Ovidiu would've DNQd in the contest (no idea why people thought he was a deffo-through :/ ) so i guess they can keep their record by default
It is very disappointing for the performer as its not his fault. Has this ever happened in Eurovision before.
I don't think there's been a withdrawal like this for the same reason, but Ivi Adamou's participation was under threat in April 2012 due to unapproved funding within Cyprus but that did get sorted in time of course, albeit with a reduced budget. Armenia withdrew in early March in 2012 due to safety concerns in Azerbaijan. Serbia & Montenegro withdrew in mid-March 2006 following a scandal in their national final where the Montenegrin jurors successfully rigged the victory for a Montenegrin act. Also Lebanon were disqualified in 2005 as they wouldn't confirm that they would show the Israeli act during the contest, but they had already selected their artist and song - and a very very good one it was too, could've been a potential top 5!
The only time I'm aware of a withdrawal this late in the day was in 1988 where Cyprus withdrew themselves, despite already having a running order slot, after breaking the rules and sending a song that had been in their national final in a previous year.
Well this is a bit of a shambles. Why leave it this late? Why did they not disqualify them earlier if they weren't paying up?
hen you forgot we don't wanna put in
7 years later and it's still as relevant as ever, if not more :')
Here's an article about a few more "lost" Eurovision songs, how did I forget Georgia 2009? http://escnation.com/news/?id=1227
EDIT: Haha indeed I did forget that one!
I didn't mean a Romanian entry to remember like this Ovidiu better be internally selected when they next take part, I feel so awful for him - like of all Romanian entries why could this not have happened to Voltaj or some shit like that?
And leaving this open to a likely qualifier from DENMARK or IRELAND makes this all the worse. Can this please be a horrible dream I haven't figured out how to wake up from?
Oh just found http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36111208 on BBC that also suggests the point about TVR's bankruptcy being imminent so I'm assuming that is indeed the reason for the sudden decision from the EBU.
LMAO at the sheer nerve of TVR on Facebook:
There is a petition around to make Ovidiu a guest performer in the Final.
I think SVT could take a page out of the Anna Book for this.
It'd be nice but I can't see it happening personally as that'll mean the national commentators will tell the viewers the story behind the disqualification and it'll put the EBU in a bad light. I think it'd be the right thing to do but I'm not sure it'll happen.
Apparently Ovidiu and/or his music label has been financing his trips to the pre-parties anyway, so I presume they'd be doing the same in Stockholm. Hopefully the EBU reimburse the money they've spent although I doubt they will.
Ovidiu could perform as a guest of SVT. Nothing to do with TVR and it's Delegation which doesn't exist henceforth.
I don't EBU has to reimburse anything Ryan, the promo trips have no ties to EBU.
Yeah I suppose, it's just a shame he and his label have spent their own money to promote himself and his song with the view to going to Eurovision and now they've wasted that money. It's just EBU's timing of this is the worst possible timing for Ovidiu but it's TVR's fault and not theirs at the end of the day.
It's not exactly a total loss. The song is still available to purchase so if anything they've minimally promoted the song abroad.
And still on the Eurovision album, which quite a lot of people around Europe buy these days.
Gutting for Ovidiu of course but it's given him a huge career boost nonetheless.
Especially if he's invited to perform as a guest. That's phenomenal promotion that he would never get if he came last in the Semifinal or 15th in the Final.
TV Moldova have offered Ovidiu the chance to sing on stage as part of Lidia's performance, but Ovidiu has declined due to not wanting to affect Lidia's performance but notes the extraordinarily kind gesture.
How nice!
Someone needs to update the forum description
The forum descriptor updater is still in denial.
(aww that's nice of Moldova, I wonder how they'll be coping with the loss of their other half for presumably at least a year or two)
Very nice of Moldova.
Are Romania allowed to vote?
No, because they are not allowed to broadcast the show.
