Another year another BBC Sound Of list. The line up for the 2017 edition is unveiled on November 28th, so i figure we could take some guesses at which upcoming artists will make the shortlist, since predictions are fun. Or generally just anyone you think will go onto big things next year, whichever waters your flower
Previous successful winners include Adele, musical legends Haim, and Michael Kiwanuka (who Buzzjack shouted "flop" at for the longest time, yet were ultimately proven WRONG (as they often are) when he claimed a #1 album)
some of my predictions:
Dave - uk hip hop will have a big presence on the list again, and Dave seems like an obvious pick
Tom Grennan - just released his first EP featuring 'Something In The Water', could see him following in the footsteps of James Bay/George Ezra
ALMA - finnish singer with green hair and makes some good, on-trend dance pop, could see her getting some chart hits
Maggie Rogers - 22 yr old who garnered attention after her (really good) track 'Alaska' made Pharrell Williams tear up, if that's not an endorsement i don't know what is
Nimmo - they've banged out a number of cool pop tunes in the last year, seems unlikely they'll blow up but it'd be nice to see them do well
Nadia Rose
Ray Blk - R&B singer, the SG Lewis-produced 'Chill Out' is her best so far
Creeper - the next R1 rock favourite following Royal Blood/Catfish/Nothing But Thieves?
Will Joseph Cook
Ones i'd really like to see-
Bonzai - probably the most fascinating newcomer person, shame on the 'pundits' if she's not there <3
BETSY - that voice *.* her recent singles have had some great support from Radio 2
Sofi Tukker - wishful thinking but their EP was so damn good
Rag'n'Bone Man is another one I think, starting to build up momentum now at just the right time and Human was TOTD recently (and on INMWT?) so Radio 1 are fans!
Fingers crossed for Dave, Nadia Rose and Ray BLK! Alongside them, my ones to watch would include:
MoStack
Elf Kid
Afro B
Gallant (unless he was 2016)
Anderson .Paak
Lady Leshurr (again idk if she has been on previous lists)
Amine
THEY.
AJ Tracey
Jorja Smith (2016?)
The Fedz
Some of these may be more accurate for a 1Xtra list but there you go.
Nadia Tehran and Leikeli47 seem like ones to watch next year for sure!
Today's radio 1 TOTD - SWMRS!
Emily Warren from Frenship's Capsize who wrote Chainsmokers' Don't Let Me Down would be one.
Others that come to mind (no clue if they've already been featured or not):
The Janes
Bossy Love
Juce
Uppermost
Roosevelt
Tigertown
Katelyn Tarver
Dominique
Matthew Young
Draper
Allie X
Alice Jemima
I can also see Kimbra, Hayley Kiyoko and some established but so far not mainstream rappers having a good year, following the success of Fetty Wap, Black Beatles, and Kendrick Lamar's now fairly-frequent features on poppier songs. I'm gonna guess A$AP Ferg and Casey Veggies, as well as Brooke Candy possibly to break through and Iggy Azalea to attempt a comeback.
would love ALMA and Nimmo to do well next year
surprised no one has mentioned LP yet, 'Lost On You' seems like a potential big future hit but I'm not sure if it'll ever be pushed.
Starley could be on there too as 'Call On Me' is already gaining.
also I hope Bishop Briggs gets a mention, she's already had success on US rock and alternative formats with her song 'River', and she's done a few great songs already.
Isaac Gracie deserves a shout too if they want a James Bay/ George Ezra type
Also BB Diamond too
was BB Diamond not tipped for things this time last year? when 'Gone Missing' was out.
Just realised I forgot about Sandra Lyng on my last post; she's had a string of singles this year that have made my personal chart, and has been trend-chasing in much the way Zara Larsson has.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtzwfihhjpQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cg370gwMbwI
She's a bit more Cascada in her videos right now but I think there's fuel there to transition from dance-pop into pop-dance of the kind that's popular right now.
LP and ALMA and hopefully Era Istrefi
MiC LOWRY are in with a chance surely ─ with Oh Lord shaping up to be huge.
Alma, Betsy and Nimmo plz <3 all three are incredible and really should be massive!!
The MTV Brand New for 2017 list came out!
AJ Tracey
Bishop Briggs
Disciples
JP Cooper
Nadia Rose
Ray BLK
Raye
Stefflon Don
The Amazons
Tom Grennan
Could be a indicator as to what may be on the sound of list etc
Zak Abel - I hope this is the year he finally breaks out. He is incredible. So so talented and such a rich soulful voice but so many brilliant songs. His album is out in February.
There seems to be a lot of hype around Zak Abel
Hopefully mentions for Bishop Briggs and Jorja Smith Been loving them both this year!
Ah right!
and it's here~
BBC SOUND OF 2017
~ AJ Tracey
~ Anderson .Paak
~ Cabbage
~ Dave
~ Declan McKenna
~ Jorja Smith
~ Maggie Rogers
~ Nadia Rose
~ Rag'n'Bone Man
~ Ray BLK
~ RAYE
~ Stefflon Don
~ The Amazons
~ The Japanese House
~ Tom Grennan
sigh @ the lack of Bonzai
Great list there really collective
No Nimmo tho
Ragnbone Man clearly going to win then I think
Poor Nimmo:(
No Nimmo
Great to see urban music so well represented here.
Yeah it's full of urban acts this year.
Anderson .Paak to win please, 'Malibu' is in my top 5 records of 2016.
Also have been a fan of all of Jorja Smith, The Japanese House, Ray BLK, Raye and Nadia Rose for a while now so would love to see all them do well.
I think Rag N' Bone Man is the obvious frontrunner though. I need to hear more than just 'Human' from him to decide if he will actually be able to get more hits under his belt.
Based on what I've heard of Raye and Nadia Rose ('By Your Side'/'Shhh' and 'Crank It (Woah)' resp.) hopefully they do well.
Let's hope whoever wins does better than last year's winner who had no top 40 singles and an album that only scraped silver.
Just listened to Nimmo for the first time there and I'm so shocked they weren't included tbh.
They sound like Years & Years, La Roux and London Grammar all mixed together. Sounds right up Radio 1's street.
I'm gonna put myself out there and predict:
5. AJ Tracey
4. Tom Grennan
3. Jorja Smith
2. Declan McKenna
1. Rag N' Bone Man
I'm gonna be so gutted if I'm right and Anderson misses out though.
It feels odd seeing Anderson .Paak on there, I feel like he's already quite established?
I thought he might've been on it last year to be honest, would've coincided well with the release of 'Malibu'.
Still, good to see him on there.
Great to see Raye there too, saw her a few weeks ago and she blew me away.
See I know Jack Garratt isn't a big chart act but he doesnt feel like it was his year like Years And Years, Sam Smith etc have had in the past. Only found two of singles (The Love Your Given and Weathered amazing ) and the album was quite meh felt not as good as it could have been so I wouldnt say imho a good winner but then again no one really did amazing last year in terms of Sound Of nominees
BRITs Critics' Choice nominees revealed as Anne-Marie, Dua Lipa and Rag'n'Bone Man! All excellent choices
Agreed.
Hopefully Anne-Marie wins it as I have liked all her songs. Have a feeling it will be Rag "n" Bone Man though as he isn't as mainstream as the other two
I think it's more likely to be a female artist, and it's hard to pick between Anne-Marie and Dua Lipa, but I think 2017 holds out more hope for Anne-Marie after her chart success on Rockabye so I'm going to predict she gets it.
Top 6 from the Sound Of nominees list (in no particular order)
Declan McKenna
Jorja Smith
Anderson .Paak
Cabbage
Rag 'n' Bone Man
The Amazons
In terms of success, Anne-Marie is the probably the safest bet but Dua has shown that she could easily have a huge hit.
Rag'n'bone Man will be a one hit wonder
Rag'n'Bone Man will be a one hit wonder whereas Dua Lipa and Anne-Marie will have multiple hits, especially the latter!
There's nothing to suggest Rag'n'Bone Man will be a one-hit wonder yet I said it elsewhere but I've heard a few more of his songs via his support act slot on Tom Odell's tour, there's lots of potential hits and I think he can score a couple more alongside a big selling album.
Besides, one hit is more than the last Critics' Choice winner got!
I fully agree about Jess Glynne, i cant see many remembering her in a few years time.
Here we go, courtesy of mdh in the spotify thread topic.
#5 Nadia Rose

#4 Jorja Smith
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/4ZN1zrkfrMv7j7d6m5c450g/jorja-smith
Brilliant singer!
Very happy that Jorja Smith made the top 5, she's wonderful.
3rd - RAYE
2nd - Rag N Bone Man

Who on earth will be No.1 then? Can't see many of the remainders on the longlist going on to huge mainstream success save for maybe Anderson .Paak, but they usually pick a British artist to win this.
The winner of the BBC Sound of 2017 is..... DECLAN MCKENNA!!
#MarkMyWords
Now that is a surprise!
I reckon it'll be Tom Grennan for some reason - although Anderson Paak is a good shout along with The Japanese House and Ray BLK in the mix maybe?
Im calling Dave tbh
The winner will be either Dave or AJ Tracey for sure, kinda makes sense they'd have a uk hip hop artist take it this year
I'm shocked at Rag'N'Bone's placing, I would prefer Maggie Rogers to win out of the remaining lot.
I expected Ragnbone Man to be number one, can't call it now.
Shocked to see Rag'n'Bone Man come as the runner-up. I was expecting them to show support for a band and put The Amazons as the runners-up, but perhaps they'll be crowned the winner? If not, my guess would be either Tom Grennan or Declan McKenna (more likely the latter surely?) Shame we can't even look to the Critics Choice nominees for a guess, as neither Dua Lipa nor Anne Marie are nominated here.
Getting a strong feeling it's going to be Declan McKenna for some reason but it could be anyone really - I'm pleased they avoided being obvious and giving it to Rag'n'Bone Man.
Same here Rag n Bone Man has had brill exposure from Human - having someone else at the top gives another act potential to grow, and damn new artists need all the help they can get these days.
I HOPE it's Dave - probably won't be tho.
RAY BLK has won the BBC Sound of 2017
Wow, well done Ray BLK! the new song Patience (Freestyle) sounds really good
Top 5:
1 Ray BLK
2 Rag'n'Bone Man
3 RAYE
4 Jorja Smith
5 Nadia Rose
I'm so so so happy for Ray BLK. Possibly my favourite on the whole list but I had never expected her to win in the slightest
Never heard of her before, just listened to 'My Hood' now which sounds alright but I can't see her doing much better than Jack Garratt did last year.
Never heard of her, I can't even see a hit single coming out from her. My Hood is not my thing
Ray BLK is great Think Buzzjack will like Chill Out with S.G. Lewis and 2am!
Chill Out remains incredible
