Jess Glynne Don't Be So Hard On Yourself (2015) - Video Commentary Jess had been growing on me for a while, from the fairly good Clean Bandit features to Hold My Hand, which at this point wasn't used in a Jet2 advert and was incredibly fresh and fun. As soon as I heard this song I knew it was going to be a favourite. It's a brilliant song, Jess at her absolute best and a mental health theme relationg to being able to let go and getting on with life, which has always been incredibly important to me since my dark period a couple of years prior. I was ecstatic when it topped the chart, and it took me years to not hate Fight Song for kicking it off after just one week Jess took a steep downhill turn after this but it is such a brilliant song. ----------------------------------------- #07 Electric Guest This Head I Hold (2012) - Video Commentary You might be surprised to see this in my Top 10 as I don't go on about it much, but you won't be surprised to hear that the only 2012 song in my Top 10 was a song I only discovered in... 2014 It's also the only song I've (ever?) discovered from an advert, the IKEA advert with the house that spins around and the smooth family who rotate about it flawlessly. It's the only advert I really like and this song played a big part of that, so much that I had it in my head during most of my trip to Centre Parcs which is really where I discovered the advert/song. It still brings back happy memories and is yet again an absolutely flawless song, as well as being the highest American entry! |

catching up on the top 30;
big yes for party rock anthem so high, it will be even higher in mine! dibby dibby sound (or libby libby as my autocorrect wants to call it) was rather good although not as essential of that era for me, I have to be in the right mood for it now. friend of mine is amazing too, glad it got a fair bit of appreciation here when it wasn't ever given a chart push. dynamite and waving flag I liked a fair bit back then but I'd very rarely if ever actively listen to them now. don't be so hard another great track although not my fave of hers. your clean bandit faves seem to be the ones I don't rate highly tho |

I guess you're more into the Jess Glynne-y Clean Bandit songs, they're decent but pretty standard dance/pop for me whilst Stronger/Come Over/Telephone Banking spice things up which is what gets my interest. Thanks Dan! |

Tinie Tempah Pass Out (2010) - Video Commentary The highest song from 2010 (and the highest song not from the middle three years of the decade), I'm not sure what makes this stand out from all the other rap songs from that time but it really does - I think it might be partly down to lyrics such as 'They say hello, they say hola and they say bonjour' and 'I've been Southampton but I've never been to Scunthorpe'. Oh and I think I remember hearing it at Hull Fair and thinking 'oh I quite like this song'. And I did - I definitely knew all the lyrics at one point (except the swearing, I've literally never heard the non-clean edit and listening to it now and it really is something isn't it. Let's stick with the clean version). ----------------------------------------- #05 Fuse ODG Million Pound Girl (Badder Than Bad) (2014) - Video Commentary Imagine being the 5th highest song in my EOD and not even being in the Top 2 songs from 2014 :') Fuse is also the highest act from Ghana (although not the highest act of Ghanaian heritage interestingly enough). I already knew and loved Fuse from Antenna but this was really on a completely different level, really bringing the world music vibes to a mainstream pop song that I played so much that I don't even think it's fully recovered for me oops. But I appreciate how much this was a turning point in my love for music and looking back at the decade this most certainly was one of the songs that influenced it. |

Krishane Drunk & Incapable (ft. Melissa Steel) (2014) - Video Commentary Melissa Steel had been on my radar for quite a while when this came out, so naturally I was very excited to hear it, and whilst it didn't do too much for me, hearing it on the music channel at Centre Parcs really cemented this as an absolute love for me. Two brilliant voices, an indo-carribean beat and an infectious tune, this song still brings back that swimming pool smell! And I don't think I've listened to Melissa Steel at all since this oops ----------------------------------------- #03 Nico & Vinz Am I Wrong (2014) - Video Commentary We finally get to the highest song from 2014, and of course it's Nico & Vinz This is the absolute definition of a grower - when I first heard it (watching 4Music in our caravan) my first thought wasn't 'oh, what a good song this is' - it was actually 'why are they doing a music video in Africa when they're from Norway?!' and that annoyed me for quite a while. But as music came and went, this stayed in my head and continued to grow on me. I was eventually convinced to download the album when I had a spare iTunes voucher and the samples of the new Fuse ODG album weren't grabbing me, and this song suddenly took on a whole new level as the head of the most perfect album to ever be released (yes, I went there). I love it and you should too. |

knew Am I Wrong would be high here, it is great though. I remember liking it when it was in BJSC then it becoming a proper hit was a pleasant surprise.
also liked Million Pound Girl and Pass Out a lot, both personal chart #1s for me (an honorary #1 for Pass Out as it pre-dated me joining Buzzjack by a few months). |

I'm loving that Pass Out has ended so high. Definitely one of the songs that defined my late childhood/early teen years.
Am I Wrong is a decent tune too but not one I ever really find myself going back to. |

Glad you're such a fan, my favourite as well Thanks Jordan! I'm loving that Pass Out has ended so high. Definitely one of the songs that defined my late childhood/early teen years. Am I Wrong is a decent tune too but not one I ever really find myself going back to. Same for me with Pass Out, although quite the opposite for Am I Wrong, such a nostalgia-inducing tune for me now! Lost Frequencies Reality (ft. Janieck) (2015) - Video Commentary So whilst you've all known for ages what my #1 will be, I've probably kept fairly quiet as to how much I love this song. It is the highest dance track in the countdown and the absolute peak of tropical house, a brilliant melody from the best featured artist of his generation, a spine-tingling twangy guitar and just a beautiful feel-good tune. I discovered this way before it was released in the UK and saw it top the charts in France and Belgium, so I was getting more and more excited for it to smash in the UK. But sadly that never happened, the song peaking at #29 and dropping out too quickly The result being that there are so many people who don't know and love this song the way they should. Listen to it now and tell me it's a masterpiece. |

Lukas Graham 7 Years (2016) - Video Commentary Now this deserves a post to itself, and I could probably write a page about how good this song is. It makes me tingle now and it I cannot comprehend how a mere mortal could write a song as good as this because as humans we don't deserve it. Every node, every note, every intonation of his voice is absolutely perfect. I had the privilege of hearing this in late 2015 so I got to witness the first hand the rise of this song going from a niche that sounded a bit like Bad Day to an appearance at #33 in the UK Chart Update to it flying up into the Top 10 and it managing 5 weeks at #1. No song as good as this had reached #1 officially before this and nothing even half as good has reached #1 since. And to be honest, people should have stopped making music after this because however hard they try they will never match the absolute brilliance of this one song. Listen to it now and feel the warmth enter you, feel every muscle in your body want to scream out the every single lyric to this song because you cannot sit there and not absolutely adore it. Over and out. (yes that paragraph might be a bit much but if you don't like it you're wrong ) |

well it couldn't be anything else at #1 here really!
as for my own chart it managed 10 weeks in my top 40 with a #27 peak which is great for that type of song, it was certainly a deserved big hit. Reality is nice enough though I never really got into it like 'Are You With Me', it also peaked at #29 in my chart but with only 2 weeks top 40. great chart ~ |

I think 'Pass Out' is my favourite in your top 10 *.* the lyrics really are so standout! Tinie's lyricism was generally on point during the whole Disc-overy era really. A very unsurprising #1 here but '7 Years' is probably my 2nd favourite of this top 10, so a good winner!
