Chart Commentary
After two weeks of Daniel Skye, we've got a new chart topper this week, courtesy of Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa. Dutch DJ Garrix first made my chart in 2013, getting to #3 with debut hit Animals, one of only two instrumental tracks to make my chart, the other being his follow-up hit Wizard which hit #27 in 2014. Scared to Be Lonely is the follow-up to his last hit In the Name of Love, which made the UK top 10 but only #40 here. Dua Lipa's notched up three previous top 5 hits here, including Be the One which re-enters at #35 this week, and finally scores her first #1 this week. Martin Garrix 2013 03 Animals | NAS | 29-3-9-12-10-14-17-21-30-38-36-X (11 weeks) 2014 27 Wizard (Martin Garrix & Jay Hardway) | NAS | 27-31-X (2 weeks) 2016 40 In the Name of Love (Martin Garrix & Bebe Rexha) | 1 | 40-X (1 week) 2017 01 Scared to Be Lonely (Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa) | 2 | 1-... (1+ weeks) Also new in this week's top 5 is Zara Larsson, who is straight in at #3 with So Good. The track becomes her sixth top 10 hit, and surprisingly her highest peak since 2015 #1 hit Never Forget You! The track is actually my least favourite of her singles so far but all of the others actually proved to be slow-burners so had less of an instant impact than this. The song is also Ty Dolla $ign's third top 10 hit, after two #1s - one of which, Are You Sure?, drops out this week after only 5 weeks on the chart, a new record low for a #1. Previously they reached #5 with Light It Up (the biggest #5 hit in the history of my chart) and #1 with Cold Water. Run Up features two artists - PARTYNEXTDOOR, who scores his first ever hit, and Nicki Minaj, who nabs her 11th top 10. Major Lazer 2015 26 Lean On (Major Lazer & DJ Snake feat. (1+ weeks) Australian indie-pop band Chase Atlantic (pictured) released a new EP entitled Part One last week. I decided to check it out, having quite liked their previous single Obsessive (but didn't love it or buy it), but was impressed and it enters my album chart at #8 this week. The clear highlight however is Right Here, which enters the singles chart at #7, their first chart hit. Also this week, Lost Kings score a follow-up hit to 2016 #2 hit Phone Down, as Quit You featuring Tinashe enters at #13, narrowly missing out on becoming their second top 10 and Tinashe's fourth. Citizen Four make their debut at #18 with Testify, and Rag'n'Bone Man scores his second hit with Skin at #22. There are new personal bests for Bahari and Future, both as featured artists. Hi Joseph
Fantastic to see Scared to Be Lonely going straight to the number one. So Good is so good of course. Hopefully it will be UK top 40 next Friday. I like Run Up but I don't love it. Well, it sounds too urban to my ears, I don't know. Great chart as always |

Hi Joseph!
Fantatic number one! Pretty instant! So Good is probs Zara's weakest but not as bad as people make out Run Up is great I love Minaj's verse! Skin is a lot more instant than Human for me Be The One re-entering is fab to see too! Great Chart |

Hi Joseph
AMAZING #1 I am loving it so much myself, Dua sounds incredible on it too I didn't like the new Zara & ML tracks initially but they are becoming growers particularly Run Up, has that nice laidback sound to it Quit You is quite nice but not on par with their efforts last year IMO, Tinashe certainly sounds good on dance tracks tho! Great chart! |

Hey Joseph!
1. Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa - Scared to Be Lonely - 1- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** This is nice but I don't think it's anything amazing. Dua sounds great on it though 3. Zara Larsson feat. Ty Dolla $ign - So Good - 3- For me this feels like her weakest single to date but I guess I should give it a chance to grow before writing it off! 8. Major Lazer feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR & Nicki Minaj - Run Up - 8- I really love that instrumental in the last 20 seconds of the song, I wish there was more of that earlier in the song! They could have done with stretching the song another 30 seconds or so anyway lol 10. Ed Sheeran - Shape of You - 38-1-3-6-10- 14. Tiėsto feat. Bright Sparks - On My Way - 10-14- 16. Sean Paul feat. Dua Lipa - No Lie - 32-X-30-35-39-30-21-16- 19. Robin Schulz, David Guetta & Cheat Codes - Shed a Light - 38-1-1-3-4-5-8-13-16-15-19- 20. Love most of the new entries Thanks Cameron Double Dua slayage *.* Both incredible tracks and Dua also scored her first #1 in my chart at last with Scared To Be Lonely as well this week! Glad you're loving the Dua domination as much as I am Sam! Thanks very much Hi Joseph Fantastic to see Scared to Be Lonely going straight to the number one. So Good is so good of course. Hopefully it will be UK top 40 next Friday. I like Run Up but I don't love it. Well, it sounds too urban to my ears, I don't know. Great chart as always Hey Jason, thanks for commenting Glad so many people are loving Scared to Be Lonely So Good seems like it won't be going top 40 just yet but I think it can be a top 20 hit in the long run! Hi Joseph! Fantatic number one! Pretty instant! So Good is probs Zara's weakest but not as bad as people make out Run Up is great I love Minaj's verse! Skin is a lot more instant than Human for me Be The One re-entering is fab to see too! Great Chart Hey Harry, thanks for commenting I agree on So Good, it's not as bad as people have made out at all! Nicki's part is definitely my favourite part of Run Up Hi Joseph AMAZING #1 I am loving it so much myself, Dua sounds incredible on it too I didn't like the new Zara & ML tracks initially but they are becoming growers particularly Run Up, has that nice laidback sound to it Quit You is quite nice but not on par with their efforts last year IMO, Tinashe certainly sounds good on dance tracks tho! Great chart! Hey Dobbo, thanks very much for the comment! Delighted to hear you're loving Garrix/Dua, it's such a fab song and really hit me in the middle of last week. Dua's vocals are fantastic as always and I love the production too, much more so than In the Name of Love. Run Up is a huge grower, I didn't dislike it on first listen or anything but it's just getting better for me, really infectious! I prefer Phone Down to Quit You but the latter is still great, would love to see it become a hit. HIYA *-* 1. Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa - Scared to Be Lonely - 1- ** HIGHEST NEW ENTRY ** Fabulous new #1! *.* It'll climb into my Top 10 in my next chart for sure <3 8. Major Lazer feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR & Nicki Minaj - Run Up - 8- Barbie a link up Major Lazer 13. Lost Kings feat. Tinashe - Quit You - 13- If there was any justice this would do major things for Tinashe 16. Sean Paul feat. Dua Lipa - No Lie - 32-X-30-35-39-30-21-16- DUA FLOP. 21. Ariana Grande feat. Future - Everyday - 37-28-27-21- ** HIGHEST CLIMBER ** Get this into the Top 20 pronto ;o 23. Little Mix - Touch - 25-1-2-5-6-5-6-7-12-15-17-23- Disgusting chart run x Should still be Top 3 minimum xox 26. Ed Sheeran - Castle on the Hill - 40-2-7-14-26- That Castle seems to be sliding down the hill x 30. Troye Sivan feat. Betty Who - HEAVEN - 13-17-25-37-X-37-X-8-7-11-17-23-30-X-40-25-30- I am the bigger Troye fan :heidy: Fantastic as always! Hiya Jay *.*! Thanks for commenting 1. Yasss *.* it better start SLAYING your chart soon x 8. bout to drop an album, this is my fourth x 13. It really SHOULD, I think there's a chance as Phone Down is kinda bubbling under so maybe Quit You is the song to break Lost Kings through? 16. The song is called No Lie but I see a lie in your comment there (wait) 23. Excuse me it's having a fantastic run ;o x 26. :')! 30. No x Hi Joseph, I find the N.1 a bit boring, I hope it's a grower... also Zaras new song It's the first song I don't like from her. Castle On The Hill dropping I hope JP Cooper gest a third recovery Nice to see No Lie being one of the few that increase Hey Seltin, thanks for commenting! Shame you're not liking Scared to Be Lonely or So Good that much Hey Joseph! They could have done with stretching the song another 30 seconds or so anyway lol 22. Rag'n'Bone Man - Skin - 22- Love this! The first time I heard it, I instantly preferred it to Human the chorus is so lovely! 36. Sia - Move Your Body - 38-36-29-36- Boo Great stuff Hey Mango, thanks very much for commenting! 1. I hope it grows on you, I was kinda the same on first listen but it really hit me within a few days! 3. I agree that it's her weakest single to date (which makes its peak look odd as it's her highest since Never Forget You!) but I still really like it, Zara's on fire right now, cannot wait for her album! 8. I hadn't really thought about that instrumental part actually but you're right, it's really solid and would've been great hearing it more throughout the rest of the track! 22. The chorus really is strong, I love the melody of it, surely another big hit coming for him when it starts to impact? 36. It's not done yet, might sneak a few more weeks! |
