Top 10

Gareth Emery shoots straight to the top of the charts following its announcement as this month's South Danaelandan BJSC entry. In doing so it kicks off last month's entry 'Unbreakable' from the top. Indeed it is the first time a domestic BJSC entry has replaced another one from the top. It is also the first #1 debut since Calvin Harris took 'This Is What You Came For' straight to #1 last May. It is also the second number one for Gareth Emery following 'Hands' which spent one week at #1 in September 2015. His full top 40 chart history is listed below, and amazingly all his hits have charted in the top 10.

It is the first hit for co-producer Standerwick, and the second for vocalist HALIENE, who previously featured on Seven Lions, Illenium and Said The Sky's 'Rush Over Me' which charted at #15 last year.

What's even more surprising is that this week's #2 is also a new entry. It comes from the long-awaited release of 'Cloudbusting' by Just Us, a Kate Bush cover version. Originally teased as 'Everytime It Rains' last year, it got officially released and led the midweeks until 'Saving Light' started to impact. It is their first hit.

Last week's top three all move down two places each; 'Unbreakable' to #3, 'You Don't Know Me' to #4 and 'I Would Like' to #5. The following drop one place each; 'High & Low' to #6, 'Say To Me' to #7 and 'Icy Feet' to #8. Following the release of a mashup between Mark Knight's 'Yebisah' and Nicky Romero & NERVO's 'Like Home', the former rises back into the top 10 this week; up 14 places to #9. Martin Garrix falls to #10 after reaching #4 last week with 'Scared To Be Lonely'.

Top 40

Katy Perry returned this week with 'Chained To The Rhythm', her first single for years (we don't count 'Rise' because it's awful) and it makes a great first impression at #22, although being somewhat overshadowed by the top 2 debuts. It features Skip Marley who has his first hit. Perry's chart history is listed below, and as can be seen it becomes her 11th top 40 hit, and if it climbs it could become her 6th top 10 hit.

Other interesting climbs; Pnau enter the top 20 with 'Chameleon' (up 25-19), Shakira keeps climbing with 'Chantaje' (up 38-33), and Oliver Heldens does likewise with 'I Don't Wanna Go Home' (39-34). Watermät gets somewhat of a resurgence with 'Fade' (up 34-26). No songs climb into the top 40 this week, with the only three entries all being brand new.

After a run of 27 non-consecutive weeks, Offaiah drops out with 'Trouble'. Which leaves Calvin Harris with the honour of longest top 40 runner, spending its 22nd week in the chart (all consecutive) with 'My Way'. It drops to #23 this week. Mark Knight's 'Yebisah' however has spent the most weeks top 100 out of this week's top 40.

Chantaje is pretty decent, not a huge Shakira favourite for me but I like it, a solid track. I'd love an English version to be made so Shakira can gain another hit here, think it would do really well!

Wow so the brand new top 2 actually materialised then! Hasn't happened for nearly 2 years in my Chart - really liking both too, Cloudbusting is a very nice reworking!

Solo Dance needs to be higher! Hopefully this is the week it enters the UK top 40.
