BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions

Posted by: liamk97 21st August 2017, 12:52 AM

After bagging the first all-female #1 of the year, Dua Lipa could remain on top with 'New Rules', ahead of big new releases in the shape of 'Friends' by Justin Bieber and BloodPop® and 'Reggaetón Lento' by CNCO and Little Mix. Other new entries could come from Majestic & Tigermonkey's 'Naughty Sesh', Miley Cyrus' 'Younger Now' and Martin Jensen's 'Wait' (featuring Loote), with Chris Brown's 'Questions' also aiming to enter the Top 40 this week.

In the albums, will Ed Sheeran end up at #1 again or can Chase & Status' Tribe or Steven Wilson's To the Bone debut there? Other new albums this week include those from Brand New, Everything Everything, Neck Deep and The Sherlocks.

Chase & Status' last Album ('Brand New Machine') opened with Sales of 26,909 in October 2013, they will need just over half that number to overcome Ed this week, not sure they will do it though given their lack of success recently and also their tendency to peak at #2.
Could well be Ed's last week at the top though as the Album Release Schedule is starting to look a lot healthier after the summer lull.

Posted by: Lenny 21st August 2017, 04:32 PM

My hunch on Saturday after seeing the progress so far was the Dua Lipa will spend a 2nd week at the top this week.

Dua Lipa is at #1.

Really disappointed by the poor performance of Chase & Status this week. I thought it was a potential number 1.

Posted by: Capybréra 21st August 2017, 04:43 PM

Ooh at Steven Wilson leading at the moment! Any chance of him holding on or are Elvis/Ed within catching distance?

Posted by: Envoirment 21st August 2017, 04:43 PM

Hoping p!nk can manage to hold or overtake Justin as she's got a good lead on iTunes and her streaming is increasing. Justin has a lead over her in streaming, but not sure if it's big enough to overcome her iTunes lead by the end of the week.

Posted by: Bjork 21st August 2017, 04:43 PM

Posted by: cqmerqn 21st August 2017, 04:44 PM

Just thinking... how did There For You go top 40 the other week? It was #36 on Spotify and only just top 200 on iTunes..

Hoping Havana goes top 40 as it's #28 on Spotify and a similar position to what There For You was.

ACR boosted it in, would've been #54 or something like that otherwise heehee.gif

Steven Wilson #1?! ohmy.gif *.* I know it's UK albums and all, but still I had no idea he would get close. Hope he can stay at least top 5, must put this at the top of my listening list.

No idea right now, we know as much as you do! I think judging by the big impact of ACR, we're probably only missing one day. Hard to say right now though!

I think that's the case! If so, we could see Macklemore, Camila Cabello & Avicii [LT] challenge for top 40 by the end of the week (judging by Martin Garrix's performance last week, as Cameron said)

There are several Artists with new entries in the Album chart that I have never heard of, a few probably taking advantage of the lowest Sales week of the year to get a higher than normal peak position.

Hope Everything Everything can nick a Top 10 place in the end! They'll likely be overtaken by a few (Glen, C&S, Rag n Bone Man) but they might just do enough

Oh Sees in at #56 on cd sales alone biggrin.gif

Great to see Steven Wilson at no.1 midweek but I suppose a lot of his sales will be pre-orders. Can he hang on until Friday?

ACR
16. Unforgettable [Last week: 3!!]
17. Wild Thoughts
22. Power (?)
44. Crying In The Club (ouch!)

No way Bieber is at 3 if all streaming is included.

Posted by: liamk97 21st August 2017, 05:10 PM

Music Week sales added. Album sales not as bad as I was expecting - I suspect Steve, Ed and Elvis will clear 10k, Neck Deep might be too front-loaded to manage it.

Posted by: Shaphne 21st August 2017, 05:13 PM

Nice to see P!nk at 4, I think she might hold onto that or stay at 5. I'm probably way off. I can't see her taking voer that top 3.

Posted by: danG 21st August 2017, 05:28 PM

'As You Are' sadly doesn't seem to be having a major effect on Rag 'N' Bone Man's album. I wonder if he'll re-release it for the Christmas market?

I agree. Rather underwhelmed by Miley's output so far.

Not that it affects the music in anyway, but I think the album cover looks awful!

I would say she actually has a strong chance of overcoming CNCO and thus making the top-3, unless streaming of the latter rebounds massively after being placed at a very good spot in Hot Hits UK playlist.

Posted by: Capybréra 21st August 2017, 08:22 PM

As of his last album I only really cared for Steven Wilson out of some kind of amusement that he kept popping up in the album chart without me knowing who he was (both as a solo artist and with several different bands - Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, Storm Corrosion). However, having now actually heard a couple of his songs via BJSC he's one I really need to hear more stuff by, 'Pariah' from this album and 'Routine' from the previous one are both 11/10 songs wub.gif Low sales it may be but I'm thrilled that he's heading for a good position this week (hopefully should remain top 3 at least). I hope Everything Everything and Chase And Status can both remain top 10 as well but that may be a tall order.

Joe Bonamassa remains an act I only stan for the amusement at his endless charting albums without having heard any of his music though. x

Glad Dua Lipa looks set for a second week at #1 also (and hopefully it'll actually be a 'legitimate' one this time? i.e. not only there because of 'Despacito' being on ACR)

RAT BOY performed quite well I think, especially when you remember that Will Joseph Cook didn't even go Top 40! I would argue that the Sherlocks are even less well known though so surprised they're doing so well!

I think that given the amount of gigs Rat Boy have done, all the NME covers, no15 was a little disappointing given the low sales. Not awful, but i expected it to sell 10 thousand 1st week.

Will Joseph Cook seems to be one of those gay singers who the gay press cream themselves over (see that Bright Light idiot for a prime example) yet noone buys because the material is woefully substandard.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 22nd August 2017, 07:34 PM

But WJC has a girlfriend? And pretty much all of his songs are about girls...

You probably didn't mean it badly, but that could come across as very homophobic. It's innapropriate. But no, he's recieved minor Radio 1 support and his songs have been on a lot of Spotify playlists. He's great.

Lol yeah I'm pretty sure Will Joseph Cook isn't gay, and nor is his material "woefully substandard" - he just didn't connect with the general public for whatever reason.

Posted by: M4NG0 23rd August 2017, 03:40 PM

Looks like P!nk will stall at #5 this week (or even fall) unless she can get a move on on streaming unsure.gif

I'd say it's pretty likely it'll fall short of the Top 40 but why would it be funny?

Posted by: mdh 23rd August 2017, 03:43 PM

It's a fab result that it's debuted top 100. Not really that funny I'd say.

Posted by: Capybréra 23rd August 2017, 04:06 PM

Oh, looks like Steven Wilson will likely be overtaken by Neck Deep as well then, aww. I knew he'd be massively frontloaded but I thought Neck Deep would be as well, yet it appears they outsold him more than 2 to 1 yesterday. I presume he should still be pretty safe to be #4 barring any unforeseen events shaking up the chart?

Fab to see J Balvin up to #9, really starting to get a bit addicted to 'Mi Gente', I wish this was the dominant one of the Latin hits as it's by far the best of the 4 imo!

I think she's set for #4 actually! Calvin and CNCO/LM will swap but P!nk should stay put at #4.

I don't think so, I can either see it staying at 4 or climbing to 3. She is outselling Little Mix on iTunes and their streaming is near neck and neck.

How's Katy Perry's Witness and single Swish Swish?

That's good to hear, really hope it can peak in the Top 3 smile.gif

Well, it's about time something involving D*pper L*ughs was funny.

Steven Wilson had a few limited-edition formats that sold out on pre-order.

The former is outside the top 60, the latter is inside the top 60.

She'll manage it easily I think! There's a fairly substantial gap between #5 and #6 and Rudimental are definitely not selling enough to catch up.

A shame Real Life doesn't look like it's gonna manage another week in the top 40 sad.gif

I think Calvin will be comfortably at #3, with Pink #4 and L Mix #5

Posted by: dennispennis123 23rd August 2017, 05:54 PM

Low sales, Taylor Swift will ease to number one next week.

Because it was near the top 20 at first. Under the old rules, he would definitely miss out

That's called being frontloaded and having missing Spotify data, and it happens to songs nearly every week in the singles chart ;o

P!nk safe for a new peak then? cheer.gif 3 or 4, both would be fab.

Posted by: danG 24th August 2017, 02:22 PM

I think Calvin will overtake her but she should be safe for #4.

Posted by: M4NG0 24th August 2017, 02:23 PM

Happy that I was wrong about P!nk biggrin.gif is she likely to stay above Calvin?

Posted by: Bjork 24th August 2017, 02:31 PM

Nope id say calvin will be 100% at @3

Posted by: JosephStyles 24th August 2017, 02:36 PM

Yeah I'd say it'll be Calvin > P!nk > CNCO in that order!

Posted by: ML Hammer95 24th August 2017, 02:49 PM

Gassed for 'Bestie' and 'Questions'!

Posted by: Steve201 24th August 2017, 03:06 PM

Any chance of Everything Everything overtaking The Sherlocks?

Posted by: Brett-Butler 24th August 2017, 03:12 PM

Portugal. The Man on the verge of their first top 40 hit then. The music industry's been trying to make them a "thing" for the past half-decade, looks like it's finally happening.

Posted by: Steve201 24th August 2017, 03:17 PM

I think it could be a future no1!

Posted by: 777666jason 24th August 2017, 03:39 PM

Still a top 5 debut for little mix and CNCO is pretty impressive

Great to see pink likely to repeak

Even better Justin been blocked from another instant number 1

Posted by: T Boy 24th August 2017, 05:46 PM

SLAY Pink!

Glad to see she'll probably climb!

Posted by: dandy* 24th August 2017, 05:53 PM

Dua seems to be doing better than last week unless I'm wrong - good to see that the track is still growing in popularity. happy.gif

Posted by: Capybréra 24th August 2017, 06:33 PM

Ah, top 3 may still be safe for Steven Wilson after all - why did Neck Deep sell so much on Tuesday?? Appears he'll fall a bit short of 10k though.

Ooh at Everything Everything and Chase And Status not falling in the mids over the week! Perhaps they will stay top 10 after all.

Wow at Portugal. The Man heading for a top 40 single!

Posted by: mdh 24th August 2017, 06:36 PM

36 Macklemore feat. Skylar Grey - Glorious *
37 Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still *

They're both possible, I could see them making it but I'd say there's a bigger chance they'll be just outside. Hard to call atm!
