The Christmas chart commentary is now on the front page and in the latest news box. Slightly delayed as my parents' broadband died just before the final announcement

I don't blame you for forgetting it but Gareth Malone also hit #1 with 'Wake Me Up'!

25 moves into the top 40 best selling UK albums ever, if Hits daily double figures of 2.61 million so far are correct. In 5 weeks!.

When did the Chris Rea video get released, could it have been the reason for the 2007 peak or was it just the downloads counting alot more for all the christmas songs? I remember there are 2 videos for the song one with aload of celebs and a cartoon one.

I remember there are 2 videos for the song one with aload of celebs and a cartoon one. The charity video was released in 2009, and the Cartoon one has been released in this decade so it can't be because of that. I assume it was because of the increasing popularity of downloads as Mariah reached 6 that year. |

No worries, cheers. I thought this was the reason. I assume the effect of streaming will lessen as the years go on depending on when christmas day falls.

2007 was the first year Chris Rea's downloads counted, as it wasn't reissued physically.

That's right, whereas the Pogues has been recharting since 2005 due to a physical rerelease which meant it reentered in 2006 as it had a physical in the shops still and then every download was allowed in in 2007!
