Hey Liam!

Not that impressed with 'Everyday', it's probably the weakest of the era for me. Really strange that it's got an impact date of May though!

'Swalla' is a little different for Jason Derulo, and I can see it doing better than his last couple of singles. I must admit, I do prefer his pop stuff to his urban stuff though.

I'm not that impressed with 'Slide', I know he's not trying to make a club banger this time round but even for a more chilled out, laid back, more urban Calvin single, it just doesn't do it for me.

Surprised you haven't charted Sia's 'Helium'!

great chart!

Hi James! biggrin.gif

'Chained to the Rhythm' could well be a #1 for me, but there's been a much need influx in good new music that potentially anything is in the running. Katy's comeback is an example of the best sort of pop music: taking a topical issue and dressing it in pop hooks and fun melodies to both push the message to the widest possible audience as well as be something that is audibly pleasing. The visuals presented in the video and live performances are great too and push the song further - I love how fun and colourful they are, as ever with Katy, but are also quite ironic or have serious undertones.

I thought 'Castle on the Hill' would be my favourite but 'Shape of You' is really winning me over. It's like this year's 'One Dance' in terms of having a really simplistic melody that becomes so infectious and sticks in your head, plus I love the 'No Scrubs'-esque pre-chorus.

QUOTE(M4NG0 @ Feb 25 2017, 11:57 PM) *
Hey Liam!

I'm kinda over Be The One now but I'm glad it became her biggest hit. Hopefully the album will do well!

Good to see Katy in your Top 10, it's just getting more and more infectious with every listen for me. I was a bit worried after Rise how new material from her would be received so I'm glad it's gone Top 5 for her, and looking like it could hang around for a while too. Of course the fact that it's a banger of a tune certainly helps!

I'm loving 'Ciao Adios' too at the moment and both that and Katy are contenders for my No. 1 on Monday, it's going to be a close call. My only criticism of 'Ciao Adios' is that lyrically it pretty much tells exactly the same story as 'Alarm'! But that aside, it's a brilliant song and I'm confident it's going to give her her first Top 10 hit. I can't wait for her album biggrin.gif

Great chart as per smile.gif

Hi! biggrin.gif

I feared 'Be the One' wouldn't achieve much but I'm glad to have been proven wrong. Synthpop usually gets my seal of approval and it's great to see it be represented in the charts amongst all the Chainsmokers-inspired dance. The album still should be moved forward from June, but at least she's had three hits at once to keep the hype ticking over.

'Chained to the Rhythm' was instantly likable yet has something quite slow-burning about it at the same time. I took 'Rise' as nothing more than a stand-alone song just released to coincide with the Olympics, but I was aware it did seem Katy's star power was slowing down. She seems to be on top of her pop game again though because this single strikes the balance just right between confronting the political landscape and being an enjoyable song. It's playful and ironic and it gives the opportunity to showcase some great visual pop moments.

Anne-Marie is definitely an exciting new pop talent on the scene and her singles so far have shown she has an ear for a catchy song. It's true that 'Ciao Adios' is similar to 'Alarm' and I do hope there's some songs with a bit more depth on her album but, as I say, all her music has been strong so far.

Hi Liam

Great choice of #1 biggrin.gif

Great to see John Wayne holding strong! I didn't think anything of it at at first, but it keeps getting stuck in my head!

Nice to see Ciao Adios enter! Hope it can go Top 5 officially!

Great chart biggrin.gif

Hi Pete! 'John Wayne' soon became an album highlight for me and I thought either it or 'Dancing In Circles' would make good single choices, so I was pleased to see that it got a music video and will hopefully be pushed as an official single when 'Million Reasons' dies down in the US. What a video it had, too! It definitely had the crazy, colourful feel of Gaga's classic music videos.

Hi Liam biggrin.gif

Great #1 there, Be the One seems to be one of those songs that pretty much everyone just likes. I personally prefer Mwah and Hotter Than Hell still but her album is shaping up to be excellent, the delays are annoying as my anticipation for it is sky high and I think it actually could've done fairly well if released a couple of weeks back as originally planned? Oh well :')

I really quite liked the Rag'n'Bone Man album, I should give it a second listen soon and let my favourites sink in, but Human and Skin were my top two from the first listen. I might even prefer Skin to Human actually, I love the melody of it. My one criticism of the album was how long it was I think, maybe I need to listen to just the standard album in one sitting and then revisit the deluxe songs later.

Yay at Anne-Marie entering, and Katy and Bebe climbing wub.gif

Hi Joseph!

I think Dua's got better with each single but honestly all three of her solo hits have been pop perfection. I just hope the album allows us to know a bit about Dua herself otherwise it'll end up being a bit like Jess Glynne, who also released successive strong singles but just lacked a personal stamp when it came to the album. Maybe it's just a personal taste, but I think albums are best when there's a bit of emotion and something revealing as well as having a high quality of music. The delays have been annoying because it's never a good sign of an album's success (or lack of) but I hope her having three concurrent big hits will keep the momentum going until June.

I agree with everything you say there about Rag'n'Bone Man. The album follows a distinct sound so the 'less is more' approach would have been best, but there's still highlights along the way. The two singles as you pointed out are definitely among them, although I think 'Human' remains my absolute favourite.

Hi Liam,

I think I say it every week but it surprises me that most of the songs last a lot of weeks (comparing with other charts) biggrin.gif

Nice entry for Ariana, I heard the song a few days ago and it's very catchy laugh.gif

Touch missing the N.1 again cry.gif

Awesome climb for Ed yahoo.gif

Hope Ed gets the N.1 just before Katy wub.gif

Hi!

I was really hoping for 'Greedy' to be released but I don't think it'll ever get the chance now. sad.gif I do like 'Everyday' though and it's grown on me more now that's become a single.

I've generally preferred Jason's pop influenced songs too, but 'Swalla' is undeniably catchy. Completely bonkers, but a very fun listen. The features really add to the song and the video game-esque instrumental breakdown is a highlight.

I was a bit unsure on 'Slide' at first. I liked the change of style and the features were more inspired than usual, but I wasn't sure whether the chilled summer vibes would be enough to carry the song and make me want to return to it. The recent spells of sun has given a great opportunity for the song to flourish though, so I'm definitely on board.

I've liked all of Sia's soundtrack songs but they've been very album track-like, so I've not been inclined to listen to them. It's not that they're bad by any means, I'd just appreciate them more if they were as part of an album.

Hi! biggrin.gif Always been a fan of longer chart runs and I'm quite picky on what I add. Some songs I like to hear on the radio but wouldn't necessarily listen to through choice, so songs that make the chart have to have something particular special about them.

Glad you're liking 'Everyday'. I'm hoping it can start making some progress soon.
