La La Land won, then it didn't.

They gave the wrong envelope for Best Picture with Emma Stone being the envelope and it ended up Moonlight won Best Picture!!

I have never ever seen anything like this!!

It's at least the third major mess-up this decade! ohmy.gif Although this one will by far get the biggest headlines!

In 2010 the host of Australia's Next Top Model https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pR9740KD2e4, and then last year the host of Miss Universe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2LInrKn1hE.

It's always fascinating to find out how the wrong name gets announced but gah, can't believe that happened tonight of all nights. I loved La La Land but haven't seen Moonlight so can't say which was more deserving. They seemed to be gracious about it, so it wasn't as awkward as it could've been.

Amanda winning over Kelsey is my mantra *.*

i think it would have been best with moonlight winning because i saw on tumblr how everyone was going on about how racist the movie industry was and then it won and everyone's rejoicing

much better odds defying winner than flop flop land

Posted by: dhwe Feb 27 2017, 06:09 AM

regardless of the chatter abt the industry moonlight is f***ing gorgeous film and it deserves every accolade

Posted by: Conderella Feb 27 2017, 06:45 AM

Given there were no real surprises regarding the winners (i always knew Moonlight would win despite the odds), at least this year will sill be remembered for this mix up

Posted by: HausofSZA Feb 27 2017, 06:53 AM

So La La Land didn't win? (I've not had a chance to catch up on the results) YAYYY really didn't deserve to imo ~

Omg at this f*** up though mellow.gif

Lmaoo, you had one job :')

Posted by: dandy* Feb 27 2017, 08:12 AM

Just watched it - lol! However how awful for the La La Land crew!

Posted by: danG Feb 27 2017, 08:30 AM

Not quite as hilarious as the Steve Harvey f***up but LOL, how does this happen so relatively often?

Posted by: Mack Feb 27 2017, 01:21 PM

The biggest mess-up in awards history.

Who do you think was at fault?

Posted by: Regina Feb 27 2017, 02:04 PM

LIVING for the Amy Adams tumblr tag rn

Posted by: Tinasha Feb 27 2017, 02:06 PM

Regina how do you feel about the fact on Oscar Noms day, The Academy's website had Amy listed instead of Ruth?

Posted by: Regina Feb 27 2017, 02:11 PM

Almost as bad as when they snub her and then have her present an award.

Posted by: HarryEzra Feb 27 2017, 02:26 PM

I haven't seen either films but boy did I Howl at the f*** up

Posted by: DalekTurret32 Feb 27 2017, 05:19 PM

LOL I heard of this on 6 Music when they were doing the news.

Posted by: Jade Feb 27 2017, 06:57 PM

Oh goodness me this was the epitome of embarrassing. Especially when the La La Land cast's speech had been going on for a minute or so drama.gif

Certainly memorable I guess tongue.gif

Wish I could've seen this MOMENT live but sleep (and I was DONE after Supporting Actor was announced)

Posted by: HausofSZA Feb 27 2017, 07:45 PM

My initial response after watching this is... fix? Like to grab attention but surely it can't be? I just fail to see how something like this can happen so outlandishly... That is just the cynic in my but yeah hmm I am dubious.

I think the Oscars take themselves FAR too seriously for this to have been set-up, these awards have years of history and respect behind them, it's not like these are the Miss World competitions or anything. Apparently more than one card is created per category because you can enter the stage through various entrances and if you zoom in far enough, you can see that poor Warren did have the card for leading actress. I think be was really struggling for what to say/do but Faye thought he was joking and when he showed her the card like 'what do you think of this', she just bursted out with LA LA LAND as soon as she saw it. It's a difficult situation to be in, especially in front of so many viewers and around the age of 80 years old, I feel awful for both hosts, as well as the La La Land team who had to hand over their Oscars that they thought they had won and the Moonlight team who didn't get a proper moment to thank everyone involved and discuss how special a black AND LGBTQ Best Picture winning film is to so many people.

Posted by: Samantha1989 Feb 27 2017, 08:39 PM

It seemed like they have a back up card per category and the PR firm forgot to discard it and gave that card to Beatty/Dunaway. I still have no clue how no one stopped it before it got that far or why Beatty/Dunaway read La La Land out when it was for the wrong category!

Or instead can we have neither of those pics winning and Emma Stone winning Best Picture like the card said *.* <3

An article I read (published pre-Oscars), talking with the two people in charge of the vote counting and envelopes, says that they're the only two people who know the winners until each envelope gets opened and announced on the night, so I assume that it wasn't stopped earlier because the producers of the show didn't actually know it was wrong? Until one of the two in charge of the envelopes let them in on it unsure.gif

Posted by: Tinasha Feb 27 2017, 08:53 PM

I don't think it was a fix, because the Oscars take themselves very seriously and pride themselves on their reputation. I think they would want to stay far away from anything that made them look like fools.

I love the way Warren Beatty looks at it, realises it is clearly wrong, searches the envelope for any other card to see if he's missed it - then shrugs and hands it to Faye Dunaway to pass the buck. *.*

I see it as him trying to subtly be like "ermmm look at this what do we do?" and her just being like "LALALAND!!!"
