Golden Globe winner for J.K. Simmons, opens in the UK this Friday. The trailer looks fantastic and the critical praise is huge. Can't wait to see it, the performances look so intense.

Just wrote about this in the new week ahead releases thread. I want to see this when it is out on DVD and it looks really good [even though I know what happens in the end]

I wasn't that fussed about the ending, if it's meant to be that special? The car crash did shock me though and I'm glad I hadn't heard about that in the way I'd read about the ending of Foxcatcher prior to seeing it, which lessened the impact it had.

The drumming itself didn't have much interest for me but J.K. Simmons was excellent, some of the lines he came out with were hilarious. I also loved the rivalry between the drummers and seeing Melissa Benoist in a role outside of Glee, get it girl.

Saw this last night, excellent film! It was so intense and I loved the two leads. The ethical questions the film raised were really good and kept me and my friends discussing the film for quite a while. J. K. Simmons better win that oscar!

I think Miles Teller has been really unfairly snubbed to be honest. Simmons was of course excellent but I think Teller was also fantastic in the leading role. Much better than Bradly Cooper for example.

Amazing film with 2 fantastic performances by Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons. The script is absolutely amazing and the performance and plot and music are fantastic as well. So glad this has received so many nominations and this is possibly my favourite of the Oscar contenders so far wub.gif

"Whiplash" is one of last year's film surprises that won the appreciation of film committees and critics worldwide! It was originally screened at the Sundance Film Festival, which won the U.S Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award for best dramatic film! Then, it won a Golden Globe, in the only category in which it was proposed in as "Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, Musical or Comedy", three Bafta awards, including "Best Actor Supporting Actor", "Best Editing" and "Best Sound" and was also nominated for a total of five Academy Awards! Something told me that this movie had been overestimated by everyone based on its script but finally "Whiplash" is one of my favourite films of 2014!
The film is based on an ambitious Jazz drummer named Andrew Neiman, which his ultimate goal is becoming a member of the studio band of Princeton High School. This school just happens to be one of the best music schools in the country! There, he is confronted with the crotchety and strict teacher of the band and their relationship will reach to the edges! The requirements and expectations that the teacher demands from the students are so high that they will make Andrew overcome his personal limits to achieve his greatest goal! Further to say that JK Simmons, who plays the school teacher, is excellent in its interpretation and he totally deserved the coveted Academy Award more than any other in its category. I'm pretty sure I will never forget this incredible performance! Equally great is the rising actor Miles Teller that embodies the young musician and convinces everyone with his hypocritical talent. The director/screenwriter of the film Damien Chazelle has done a great job! The main components of his movie are the high intensity and the rapid screening. It does not lose the rhythm for a second and is seen with interest from its beginning to end. It has subversive end and you cannot be sure of anything as you watch it. "Whiplash" has also nice cinematography, elaborate editing and very good music. I guess that fans of jazz and the fans of independent American cinema, will literally love this specific movie! It creates such an atmosphere that makes you forget that you are in a movie theater.
"Whiplash" is definitely one of the most powerful stories of last year! I honestly cannot find anything negative from its content and I can say only positive words. Though, I consider that it has been harmed by the side of the viewers because its low earnings are totally unjustified. Just, maybe this fault falls on the promotion of the independent production studio but the fact that it excelled in so many categories at Bafta and Oscar, should have given it a boost. However, it has been loved by the audience who saw it and has received a very high average score in IMDb (8,6) that classifies it in the 40 best films of the site! I highly recommend it because “Whiplash” is in my list of the best movies I've seen so far!
