Nathan Sykes from The Wanted has become the first member to pursue a solo career (minus Max's 'acting' in Glee) and he has just released a preview song which is free to download from his Facebook page called "More Than You'll Ever Know". It's surprisingly good, a lot better than what I would have expected from him, although his presence as a popstar isn't exactly necessary with Conor Maynard's present 'comeback' occurring.
I'm not really sure what direction it'll lead to with the album but it doesn't exactly scream 'hit', plus it's been a long time since The Wanted were around, so whether anyone actually remembers him/cares is another question...
If it ain't about The Wanted, they'll probably know him from that duet with Ariana Grande
THIS WEEK IS GIVING ME LIFE
It's on his SoundCloud now!
I loved The Wanted, but the notion of any of them having solo careers just seems dull. I didn't know Max was in Glee either. Nathan's super cute and adorable, but I'm not here for that sound at all.
Not a fan of the song, doesn't really go anywhere
It sounds like the sort of song John Newman would make light work of. He on the other hand just sounds like he's just concentrating hard whilst sat on the loo.
It's such a shame really with The Wanted. Their first album, 'Gold Forever' and 'Glad You Came' were really excellent pop.
Then fame and a small level of success in US got the better of their egos (or rather Tom's) and then they just continued releasing pale imitations of 'Glad You Came' ad infinitum until they split/all hated each other.
Huge bump here but the album is called Unfinished Business, pre-order starts at midnight and it's out 4th November! He better have some great promo planned if he thinks releasing in November is good
1 Good Things Come To Those Who Wait
2 Kiss Me Quick
3 Money
4 Freedom
5 Twist
6 I Can't Be Mad
7 There's Only One of You
8 Famous
9 Give It Up (feat. G-Eazy)
10 More Than You'll Ever Know
11 Over and Over Again
12 I'll Remember You
Deluxe
13 Tears in the Rain
14 Over and Over Again (feat. Ariana Grande)
15 Taken
16 Burn Me Down
Will check this out as I really like Give It Up and Over and Over Again actually! Not got high hopes for success though lol.
He'll get an X Factor slot I think, still can't see it doing well though
Yeah an XF slot seems very likely after he got one last year, he'll be swallowed up though
November?! Following on from 2 'hits' that disappeared as soon as they arrived and a flop this is a terrible idea. I actually really like his solo stuff but even with an XF performance which we have seen in recent years does not always translate into sales he will be coming for that #54 smash album I hope they are not banking on XF alone and have some serious promo slots lined up.
I'm interested (kind of), I really like the second and third singles and his voice is phenomenal.
This will totally bomb, but I'll likely buy it since I have grown to really like his singles.
Sadly, he hasn't made much of an impact as a solo artist yet and I can't really see that changing. He is talented and I like his style of music but like the Wanted, the general public don't seem to connect to him as a person or his music.
Maybe he is on Strictly, get that promo.
Album art looks better in colour. Instagrat Twist is pretty amaze too *.*
I don't think they'd give him another X Factor slot after the last one couldn't save the song would they?
Let's hope track 1 is right. This album seems to have been a ridiculously long time in the pipeline. I would assume he has some sort of X Factor promotion lined up or this would surely be shelved/out by now? I don't see the album performing well, which is a shame as the three singles have been great so far. His vocals are gorgeous and he seems sweet, so I'd like him to do well.
I like the instant grat track 'Twist' - Not hit material but it's a decent track.
Also the standard version on iTunes is £6.99 and deluxe is £9.99 - Definately the right price points to try and get some early pre-orders and sales.
Twist is actually pretty good.
Actually very surprised that he's getting an album release, especially after his last single tanked at #56, and in fact none of his singles so far have made massive impact and not had very long shelf life. To be honest I don't find any of his solo stuff very interesting, just plain and bland, and totally forgettable.
However I did really like 'The Wanted', they had some pretty great songs such as 'Glad U Came', 'All Time Low', 'Gold Forever' & 'Chasing The Sun', and it was a shame that after they hit their peak with 'GUC', they just seemed to go downhill and got overshadowed by One Direction. Which again was a shame as they had so much potential and if it weren't for terrible songs such as 'Walks Like Rihanna', 'We Own The Night' & 'Show Me Love (America)', there could have been room for both boybands and there could have been another boyband war like the good old days of 'Backstreet Boys' and 'N' Sync'.
But yeah I do agree that none of them screamed solo star, they worked better as a group and it would be awesome if they came back with something incredible and they could have another chance at stardom.
He is in the same position as Aston from JLS, both the bands split in 2013 and are now launching/ releasing album proper 3 years on. I really want this to do well but who outside their fanbase and gay really remember or cared much about the wanted or even him. JLS though it make a bigger impact with the public and are probably better remembered and Aston could have done better with better songs and lots more promo. Anyway as I said its been 3 years since both disbanded and for both their last year was spent releasing crap and being overshadowed by 1D.
Famous is the new single, out tomorrow.
He's so cute and adorable, but his solo music is pretty meh. I loved The Wanted, and they had music I preferred the most out of any boyband. Well actually, the iTunes previews sound pretty decent, but I obviously liked The Wanted's style much more.
Famous is ok but it doesn't really stand out enough. He will struggle with his album and probably vanish into obscurity after this. The wanted's music was definitely a lot stronger.
Its a lot more in vein with The Wanted so I can see why its doing OK.
Oh, 'Famous' is really really poor. I liked the last two singles.
I'm really enjoying everything released since (and including) 'Give It Up', really don't understand why everything he releases bombs (or underperforms - iro 'Over and Over Again'), considering the Global spamming and all...
His new song sounds just like R Kelly's 'If I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time'.
Exactly - that on its own simply isn't enough.
#96 in the mids for 'Famous'
Album has been pushed back a week to November 11th
^^ And Iv just gone into iTunes and both versions are availble to download now?
Oh wow. This really DOES sound like 'If I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time'!
This is gonna be just as big as 'Over & Over Again'... UK radio are gonna lap it up, surely? I just CAN'T at the thought of this and James Arthur both being top 5 at the same time though... </3
It's so shit compared to his last two singles.
The album is off to a really strong start on iTunes - Deluxe version at #2 and standard at #49, he has several album signings this week and an XF performance. He could quite possibly end up with a Top 20 single and album next Friday
So this album is amazing, top 3 of the year along with Lawson and Tom Chaplin for me.
Money >>>>>>>>
Huge XF boost so far - Famous (#5 up from #16), Album (Deluxe #10 up from #20, Standard #69 up from #158).
The album is so good and pleased to see him doing so well as it seemed it was all over after 'Give It Up' flopped and the fact it's been a year since 'Over & Over Again' was a hit.
I really enjoyed famous when he performed it, its good to see him doing well.
What kind of shouting contest was that, ugh! And his gesture on stage was over the top and annoying.
The song itself is dated and tuneless which is a shame since he's a nice boy.
I would disagree, it is a very sweet song.
So I listened to the album tonight, not really expecting much from it but I was very pleasantly surprised! He's maybe not the best vocalist ever but it's a solid album with some great songs on it. I'm looking forward to giving it repeated listens to see how much it grows but it's definitely off to an unexpectedly promising start with me
The album has grown on me with each listen - I think it's a really strong debut album. 'I Can't Be Mad' seems to be getting a lot of love so wouldn't be surprised if that's not the next single as his ballads are the ones that have done well so far.
Single climbing to #23 on the mids - would love it to snatch a week in the Top 20, also currently #89 on Spotify and climbing steadily. Pleased to see the album holding at #14 too.
^The album is midweek #11 as of yesterday! Deluxe also #11 on iTunes currently.
So close to top 10. iTunes standard has been dropped to £4.99. Definitely worth a buy if you haven't already.
Good to see Famous going for top 25 officially. Download chart #7.
Incredible result for him to be #28 on singles and #11 on albums.
I hope the album doesn't tank too much this week although I guess is inevitable as the promoted it so hard in week 1 with HMV signings, XF and price cuts.
Pleased to see the album holding up much better than I thought - Down from #11 to #24 in the mids.
'Famous' at #30 and getting hammered by streams as its been Top 10 on iTunes for a week.
He is doing better than expected, the album has had a decent peak position with reasonable sales. I had originally seen the album charting at somewhere like number 63.
Album improving in yesterday's position and is up 1 to #23 - looks like it's going to be stable for week 2 'Famous' has dropped to #32 which is disappointing but I guess at one point it didn't even look as though it would go Top 75!
@Pippa - I was expecting a 44-Out kind of chart run for the album too!
'Famous' is underrated. I love to play guitar of this song on http://chords.tv/
I Can't Be Mad is 10/10
