Miley Cyrus' upcoming album is called Endless Summer Vacation, which is slated to be out sometime in Q1. The announcement of the lead single, which is called "Flowers", will be on New Year's Eve at midnight ET and it's going to be released on January 13.
Rooting for a very strong era for Miley.
Yeah I am expecting good things after Plastic Heart!
Plastic Hearts was a fab album, but she's so wildly inconsistent that I never know what to expect.
'Midnight's Guy' is gonna be a hard one to ever top for her.
The lead single is called "Flowers", not "R3SET" as previously mentioned.
There is a real air of a big era coming for Miley with the new album.
Feeling hyped for this as I enjoyed a fair amount from Plastic Hearts!
If 'Flowers' is even half as good as 'Midnight Sky' then I'll be happy!
So excited! A great way to start 2023!
Endless Summer Vacation is coming March 10
That album cover tho… incredible!
HYPE
Please be good
Really hyped for this now!
Be interested to see if there are other vinyl variants on like HMV/Amazon etc
While I didn’t really take to anything from her last album there usually a few songs from each era I like. Looking forward to hearing the lead single though.
Hard to know whether to be excited for this as her sound changes almost every era but her last album had a couple of her best songs to date (justice 4 'Angels Like You') so hopefully she can deliver some goods this time too.
'Angels Like You' really deserved to be a classic smash.
for some reason there is a countdown on the presave page for for 10/1/23 at 14:00 i think.
I’m so disappointed, hate the song. The chorus is especially awful.
Wasn't sure on the first listen, but really liked on the second! I can see this doing well, it feels like she's still at he height of her powers.
It's a bit boring
I really like it! Hoping the album is even stronger but this is a great preview
I did expect a bit more tbh 😩 hope it does well for her. Maybe it will be a catchy grower.
Expected a bigger budget for her music video??
I really like it, grows more and more with each listen.
Does the song sample something? The chorus sounds very similar to something but I can't put my finger on it.
I’m hearing I Will Survive in this!
Pretty sold on this on just the first listen myself. She’s so versatile!
I wasn’t expecting it to be this much of a BOP. I love her ballads but when I seen it was referencing Bruno’s when I was your man I was expecting this to be a lot slower. I hope this can be big.
It kinda reminds me of Natalie Don’t by Raye
I like it, I expected a bit more punch but I think radio is going to eat this up, should be big for her!
It's decent enough but will need a couple more listens I think to see if it can click just that bit more.
On first listen it sounds decent but a bit flat. Maybe it's a grower that needs more listens.
It’s nice in first listen, but a wee bit boring. I am sure it will definitely grow!
Could be a single for Harry Styles so there's that
Very intrigued by it after first listen! Not what I was expecting and there's some nice production touches. Love the single cover and her vocals are as warm and gorgeous as ever.
Echoing a fir few here. It’s pleasant but that’s about it. Hopefully it’s a grower.
It sounds very classic. Can see it doing well with the radio 2 crowd. Hoping single #2 is more of a bop still.
was expecting more, something more bold and exciting, agree this is almost music for a sushi restaurant level of boring
and why sample Bruno Mars if it's barely noticeable
This is a hit, girls.
It's understated but effortless — clearly going to be an absolute earworm.
Number One incoming, its basic but every single person is going to eat this up
why bore off, this is not Miley Cyrus fan club, we're all allowed an opinion
so anytime you go on a thread and criticise something I'm gonna paste your bore off reply from now on
Sure but what do you get out of falsely claiming something is a sample though? I don't get it.
what you mean falsely? it's been in all the news all week all along, it's not like I made it up lol
google it
I don't get why the personal attacks, it's an opinion, ignore my posts and thats it
How could this possibly be constituted as a Bruno Mars sample??
this last page. second hand embarrassment teas for everyone involved :')
anyway, this is a bop
I think this is great, it’s not at all what I was expecting but it kinda oozes confidence and I love her delivery of it. It’s almost certainly going to grow further too
Think y’all need to buy yourself some flowers x
I really like it! Not sure I'd call it lead single material, it's not very instant, and I'm not sure it's going to be a massive hit, but it's definitely a great song.
love it on first listen personally, I think it’s instant, The lyrics are very catchy !
It's more than just one line, the entire chorus is pretty much a flip of Bruno's lyrics.
Finding this a bit limp tbh, was hoping for something better.
I see she's decided to go down the Harry Styles route, now that they are on the same label.
Not fan of the song
Have listened to this a couple of times now and it's nice, if not slightly underwhelming. I think it will grow with multiple listens and it certainly appears to be getting some backing on Spotify and Radio 1.
The chorus lyrics and tailor-made for a break-up video on TikTok.
I’m really enjoying the song. The chorus has been stuck in my head all day. I definitely agree with the comparison comments to Natalie Don’t by Raye but I love that song too!
Only critique I’d say is the song could do with building more in the final chorus and I wish Miley did more with her ad libs.
Would give it a strong 9/10 though.
If I’m gonna be honest this feels like a natural progression from Plastic Hearts and its glam rock moments. It’s giving late 80’s-early 90’s and Miley slots well in that world.
It’s a vibe honestly
Just pre-ordered the white vinyl!
Having read this thread before listening, I didn't think I was going to like it but this sounds great! It is quite low-key and not as instant as anything from Plastic Hearts, but by no means a disappointment. I thought the Bruno references would take me out of the song a bit but it's not that noticeable tbh. I hope we get some more rock moments on the album though.
It has definitely grown on me with repeat listens.
Yeah it's growing on me too now. Some cool funky feels in it. I think it's just going from the songs from her last era to this one was quite the dip but it's fine enough. Sounds more suited to spring or summer though.
I'm loving the song! A bop
Also seems to be doing super well so far...
Ngl if it wasn't for people pointing it out in this thread, I wouldn't have made the Bruno connection, like, at all?
She's smashed this out the park for me. I LOOOOVE it and the best thing is, it's even a grower, despite being instant!
Will give this a listen tomorrow looking forwards to it her last era was fire!
I was a fan from first listen but it’s getting even better on repeated listens. I agree that it’s quite exciting to never quite know what to expect from new Miley music but she always seems to deliver the goods.
Posting this stunning duet with Dolly Parton at Miley's New Year's Eve Party a couple of weeks ago, in case anyone missed it. I've watched this every day of the year, it's just beautiful. I actually prefer Dolly's original of 'I Will Always Love You' to the classic Whitney cover.
I am really loving the new song!
I am obsessed...this is understated and stunning. Miley sounds so comfortable.
I wasn't wowed on first listen but this is such a grower. Loving it now!
This is excellent so instant for me! Effortlessly cool, chill and catchy.
If the album is along these lines (and has a duet with Kylie as rumoured) I’ll be happy!
^ let’s hope so!
This is so catchy, hope it's a hit for her!
I actually think one of the main reasons the sharp increase in popularity is not Plastic Hearts itself but the live covers and versions of songs she eas either rperforming or releasing. It really put across how good vocally she is and re marketed her.
Flowers on Spotify - Jan 14:
Global - #2 (+1) *new peak* - 9,631,889
US - # 1 (+1) *new peak* - 2,459,040
UK - #1 (+2) *new peak* - 542,173
a smash!!!!
Deserved!
This continues to grow and grow. So understated but in a way that is so catchy and has emotion to it, she really is going to bring it this era!
From absolutely hating it, it has suddenly grown on me! Still not my favourite Miley song but it is catchy.
Thankfully this has grown on me too!
Yeah 100% a grower this one. I think some of my initial disappointment was that it wasn't as immediately punchy as the likes of Mother's Daughter or Midnight Sky but i'm loving it for what it is now.
I hope she can finally win herself a brit award with this era 🙏
I think number 1 is guaranteed, this is only going yo gain streams every day this week. It hasn't had the usual day 2 slump.
This song is absolutely incredible. Listen to it and then listen to Midnight Sky straight after and they compliment each other brilliantly - sister tracks both thematically and musically! What a great start to a new era - I am hyped for what else is to come (and have been really getting into her hits as a result of this too).
I can't abide some of her music/eras (that Dead Petz one :/) but when she's good, she's superb!
I really like this but some of the music leading into the chorus sounds similar to Gloria gaynor I will survive is anyone else hearing that aswell or is it just me?
Yeah I'm liking this a lot more now yay. It was definitely cause it went from the sound of her last album to this one threw me off guard a bit, a big drop in style but it's actually not as big a progression as I first thought. It's got a vibe going on.
This is seriously incredible! I don’t think she’s really appreciated enough as an artist and her multiple genres! I’m amazed to see her break all of her streaming records! It’s looking likely if a debut at #1 on the billboard and i think it has a chance of going to #1 in the UK even if it’s doesn’t manage it this week especially if it continues increasing on streaming!
The video easter eggs are brilliant too, the apartment where it was shot at was the apartments Liam Hensworth cheated on her with multiple females and the suit she’s wearing is the suit that Liam wore to the wedding!
Taylor has been giving the pop girls advice!
Well, she deserves the smash foe people sleepin on Mother's Daughtee, but I dinet like it.
This is so accessible but also feels like only Miley could make it, instant but a grower, ugh she’s incredible.
I don’t think there’s ANY artist in this generation as versatile as Miley, one of the absolute best vocalists we have too and I don’t think she gets the credit for either of those things. I think in decades to come, she’s going to be one of those classic unmistakable voices that stands the test of time.
She has one of the strongest singles discographies out of all the pop ladies. I'm not sure there are many I actively dislike at all. 'Hoedown Throwdown' can f*** off, but off the top of my head, that's pretty much it I think!
I think that's what Miley's strength is: you can't really predict where she's gonna go with her music next but every time she does switch it up it somehow makes sense in your mind. Even the Bangerz era, with all of its flaws, felt like a direction that made sense after Can't Be Tamed.
Projected to debut at #1 in the United States and i’m guessing she will manage #1 in the UK now after going from 100,000 behind Raye on Spotify streams to over 100,000 ahead!
Her Spotify numbers are just amazing. Climbing 3 days in a row and likely 4 given yesterday was a Sunday! Haven't seen a new release do this for a while.
'Flowers' is bloody brilliant from Miley.
FLOWERS IS HEADING FOR NUMBER ONE!!!! IT WOULD BE MILEY'S Third number one and first in nearly 10 years.
Deserved!
I've been watching the New Years Eve show clips on youtube... she is amazing I want to see her live now!!! I'm officially a Miley Cyrus stan!
Flowers has grown on me after a few listens, very catchy chorus! Defo looks like it’s gonna be #1 fair play to her, looking forward to seeing what the album brings
I just find it insane that after all these years it’s going to be her biggest debuting hit across the world!
Miley and Shakira made history as for the first time excluding christmas songs, the top 2 worldwide had over 10 million streams
Girl power!
It's an instant classic Very happy to see Miley have a huge hit with this straight out of the gate!
958k on Spotify UK yesterday, 15.7M worldwide, that is INSANE.. 8M higher than its debut day on day 4!!!!
I believe 4th highest global total for a non-christmas song. I wonder how high it can go?
I wonder if Miley is the next Madonna?! Her competition: GaGa and Beyoncé. Rihanna was competition, till she quit for fashion like Posh Spice, and Katy Perry was competition pre-flop. That leaves only three next Madonnas! Well, five with Taylor Swift and Ariana.
God, charts music gets worse anf worse though. Boring, plodding mid-tempos, like this, get all the press, and bops like Mother's ... Daughter? massively flop!
This is starting to grow on me. I’m enjoying it now more than I was on Friday.
Also #1 on pre orders!
I really didn’t expect this to be as huge as it is but the song is so effortless, she’s really made herself remain in the spotlight with her covers giving her media coverage!
Thank god she left RCA!
Still can't quite believe how big is already turning out tbh. Fab for her after such longevity. I suppose I should have seen it coming as the more I hear it, the more it does sound like something radio would eat up a lot even more than MS tbh which in itself sounded like big radio cannon too!
I'm a little late to the comparisons or discussion but I'm starting to hear When I Was Your Man in this now.
I'm hoping she doesn't just let this era die prematurely like she did with both Bangerz and Plastic Hearts (or in the case of Bangerz kill it stone dead with a stupid single choice when it was going so well and had further potential)
With only 5 days of tracking, Miley Cyrus' single Flowers is projected to break the record for the most streamed song in a single week on Spotify (Easy on Me - 84,952,932m).
It already has 61.170.455 million streams and is sitting at #11 on the list. 🚨
🔥
My first impression of this is... it's decent. Not really one I'm rushing to revisit personally but I can see why it's so popular, hopefully it'll grow on me at least a little. Probably about on the same level as 'Nothing Breaks Like A Heart' for me which I also never fully got into. (I do like it more than I liked 'Midnight Sky' on first listen at least and that one did grow on me quite a bit)
Can definitely hear the 'I Will Survive' similarity with the production in the chorus, that song is just inescapable recently
Insane how she’s got this many streams, never would have expected but that’s so so deserved!
I’m quietly optimistic she could get #1 album with this now too especially since Lana has moved dates.
Her new label are really supporting her and Flowers is really connecting with the wider GP pretty much everywhere.
She’s deserved this kind of success since forever
I keep seeing this I Will Survive comparison being made and I tell myself I’ll listen out for it next time I hear Flowers, but I always forget, which must tell me it’s not as obvious a similarity to me as it is to others, I guess!
I liked this song from first listen (my expectations had lowered based on some of the reactions here) and it’s just continued to grow from there. I can definitely hear the Bruno Mars - When I Was Your Man influence, the lyrics are very similar throughout the chorus and the melody is very similar too, surprised to hear Bruno and whoever else was involved in that song wasn't credited (I’m sure a lawsuit will come along once there’s enough money to be made).
Excited to hear what else is in store for this era!
Flowers by Miley Cyrus becomes the fastest song in Spotify history to reach 100 million streams in under 1 week of release 🌷
Excited for todays numbers then, if she broke 100 million streams in the evening it means she would have passed 16.4m, im expecting 18m now!
She’s also get her first ever Australian #1!
Over 1 million on Spotify UK today! On the day that the streams aren't counted towards the chart
But this is insane and so deserved for her!
Amazing numbers!
That's MAD she hadn't yet got an Aus #1, especially when you consider a large swathe of her singles charted a lot higher there than here!
@MileyCyrus’ fastest singles to reach 100 MILLION streams on Spotify:
#1. Flowers — 6.5 days
#2. Malibu — 35 days
#3. Prisoner — 41 days
#4. Midnight Sky — 50 days
#5. Don’t Call Me Angel — 54 days
#6. NBLAH — 55 days
#7. Slide Away — 83 days
Mothers Daughter remains my all time favourite from her but this is such a promising direction! Feels so good to see this success after following her for the past 5 years. Truly deserved and the work she done with the amazing live covers has worked in her favour! Slay Cyrus.
That’s pretty impressive, to beat her previous record by about 29 days.
I can’t wait to hear more! Hopefully a buzz single etc before the album!
First German #1!
I believe she's on 27 official number ones around the world now ❤️
Absolutely crazy 2nd week figures. Also stayed #1 in Australia.
really surprised how quiet she’s been on social media and promotion, although i’m guessing single two will be coming in the next month!
It still feels like Flowers will be peaking in the US as it’s growing rapidly on radio that it’s almost too early for a new single especially when it will probably be her first radio #1!
The final track from ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ is describle by a powerful ballad with only piano and vocals on the song and it’s produced by Greg Kurstin (‘Hello’, ‘Stronger’, ‘Water Under the Bridge’, ‘Easy On Me’).
Love a bit of Greg Kurstin!
.@MileyCyrus (84.75M) has now officialy surpassed Taylor Swift (84.71M) and it’s the female artist with the biggest Monthly Listeners peak on Spotify ever.
INSANE
Could this album possibly be coming for her highest opening sales to date in the UK?
And another #1 album in the states too.
Almost certainly in the US and I’d think so in the UK too.
I still wouldn’t be too surprised to see this pushed back, there’s nothing about the album currently and no rumours and Flowers is starting to die down
Isn’t the title track coming in 2 weeks
It’d be counter productive to push the album back in my view. No follow up will do as well.
I don’t think they expected Flowers to be this huge!
Shes not done any promo and her social media have been incredibly quiet
^ You push back an album release if its lead single flops, not because it outperforms all expectations.
If the album date does actually stick, I think she's actually more likely to get the #1 in the UK than the US. I expect Morgan Wallen is going to be doing crazy numbers for a few weeks (his album is out on the 3rd).
the track list ain’t even out
Mimi just announced the tracklist of hers and that album is out the week before Miley's, I assume it must be coming in the next few days?
Announcement coming on Tuesday but rumours are it’s a one night only msg show!
Selena and Harry Styles are rumoured to be on the album
I still can’t believe we’ve had no remixes, no other versions or any promo!
Nah I predict this will open with around 150,000 in the US, should be enough for #1!
Isn’t there a rumour that Kylie is on it?
Tracklist revealed!
1. Flowers
2. Jaded
3. Rose Colored Lenses
4. Thousand Miles (ft. Brandi Carlile)
5. You
6. Handstand
7. River
8. Violet Chemistry
9. Muddy Feet (ft. Sia)
10. Wildcard
11. Island
12. Wonder Woman
13. Endless Summer Vacation
A SIA COLLAB!!!!!
Apparently track 13 is actually Flowers (Demo) – there isn't a title track.
(sorry for three posts!)
dissapointing to see you included
I thought a Selena Gomez was incoming
Damn, too good to be true re: Kylie!
Liam is suing her for defamation of character, don’t think he will win as Miley hasn’t mentioned his name or said it’s about him
It’s only defamation if it’s false though
2:17 to me is essentially a jingle rather than a full-length song.
Yeah, that’s a very short song.
Thank God.
Not sure I could handle too much more of Sia's inevitable warbling.
"Violet Chemistry" sounds promising.
I'm interested to see how her album does. Given we haven't had a second single and promo has been fairly lackluster apart from "Flowers" blowing up/becoming huge. I have a feeling either she'll have a number of tracks debuting strongly or "Flowers" will get a noticeable boost with the rest of the album debuting in the 100-200s on spotify/a bit higher on Apple Music/Amazon. Will be interested to see how much spotify support she'll get. I wouldn't be surprised if she gets 2-3 songs on Hot Hits UK with the cover and an album track on NMF.
Music Video for ‘River’ out Friday - second single confirmed?
River has been described as the highlight of the album!
I’m expecting her to debut at #1 with around 40-45k?
I wonder if River will replace Flowers at #1.
River single #2 and pushed on release day with a video ready to go, think she could even replace herself at #1!!
Next weeks single chart battle between River and Miracle will be very interesting.
think you're a tad bit optimistic bout Miracle!
Apparently River was filmed the same time as Flowers and has a lot of hints!
I just want her to promo the shit out of this as she’s been so quiet, it’s sad this will probably go to #2 on USA as Morgan Waller is selling huge amounts and she will probably need 250,000+
Just heard Violet Chemistry, River and Jaded in full but LQ
Violet Chemistry is so f***in' good, so summery
Jaded is kinda rockish-chilled and River has nice beat kinda dancey but it's too short
First listen rating!
09.0 Flowers > Such a great lead single. It's starting to tire on me ever so slightly, but hopefully with the album now out I can give this track a bit of a rest! <
08.0 Jaded > This is lovely. I love how "big" the chorus feels. It's a lot more mellow/chill than I expected on the whole though. It feels like if 'Flowers' was made for 'Plastic Hearts'? <
07.5 Rose Colored Lenses > Another chill and mellow vibe track. The chorus isn't *quite* as impactful as 'Flowers' or 'Jaded' but it hits. I (oddly) get Gwen Stefani vibes from this tbh? I like it. Could be a grower. <
07.5 A Thousand Miles (feat. Brandi Carlisle) > This is lovely. It's like she's gone to the "Taylor Swift Midnights school of collabs" and Brandi isn't heard much at all (just backing vocals pretty much... omg) I do like this actually. It'll sound really nice, live. <
07.0 You > A slight change of pace and it's good. It's definitely my least favourite so far though. <
10.0 Handstand > THE PRODUCTION! *.* This feels like a glorified interlude! I LOVE it. Omg. THE SWITCH UP! <
10.0 River > OH THIS IS GOOOOOD! I love this as the next single! I even prefer it to 'Flowers'. <
11.0 Violet Chemistry > 3RD SINGLE PLEASE. MY GOD! <
08.0 Muddy Feet (feat. Sia) > Just like Brandi... although more "thankfully" in this context... Sia is just backing vocals :') It's actually really good and doesn't feel TOO short tbh! <
09.0 Wildcard > I love this! Her delivery of the hook "I'M A WILDCARD... OOH-OOHOOOOOOH"...fantastic! Could potentially start grating on me, but we'll see. For now though, brilliant! <
08.5 Island > This feels quite Fleetwood Mac-y??? Well, the intro at least! Oh this is so BREEZY and lush! SMOOOOOOOTH! This might actually become close to my favourite at some point... omg. <
10.0 Wonder Woman > THIS IS STUNNING. MY GOD! <
Album of the year. Wow. The way this album shifts from 'Handstand' onwards and it still feels cohesive and consistent... WHEW.
Oh and my ranking on first listen is:
01. Violet Chemistry
02. River
03. Wonder Woman
04. Handstand
05. Flowers
06. Wildcard
07. Island
08. Muddy Feet
09. Jaded
10. A Thousand Miles
11. Rose Colored Lenses
12. You
STAY A WHIIIILEEEE!!! STAY A WHILE WITH MEEEE!!!
Love it. It's more subdued in places compared to Plastic Hearts but still has a great edge/rockier influence to a number of songs. If I had to describe it I would say it's Ashley O meets Plastic Hearts Miley. Production is top notch on the album.
Highlights are "Flowers"/"Jaded"/"Rose Colored Lenses"/"You"/"Violet Chemistry"/"Wildcard"/"Island". "River" is great too and really catchy but is too short!
If I had to pick a favourite I'd go with "Violet Chemistry" followed closely by "Wildcard". Hoping they'll push "Violet Chemistry" as a single at some point.
I'm telling you all now, 'Island' is the infectious, feel-good, breezy Summer bop. Instant but also a grower.
I'm hooked on violet chemistry this needs to be a single I think it could be massive hit
Violet Chemistry will probably be single three that’s why it’s not being pushed hard on playlists!
We haz a 'River' video:
Serve!
It's all about 'Island' for me
What an album
Slide Away would have been PERFECT for this as an album closer
Slide Away is one of, if not THE, most underrated Miley songs ever. Deserved so so much more, it's stunning.
Also really loving the album, so consistent! Flowers is actually one of my least favourites oop.
Island, River, Wild Card, Muddy Feet and Violet Chemistry are my faves from first listen.
Rivers is the ebst sang by far!!! Another no.1
As predicted 'Island' has really grown massively on me and I *think* it's my favourite. I just love how breezy, easy going and summery it is. The mature and older sister to 'Malibu'.
I'm joining the 'Island' Love Train, deffo a highlight for me now after a day of the album on repeat. 'Rivers' is my overall favourite though. WHAT a single.
'Wonder Woman' is probably my favourite ballad she's ever done.
The first half is very underwhelming but the album picks up after that. Flowers is still my favourite, followed by Island.
Loving the album. "Violent Chemistry" is fast becoming one of my favourite songs of Miley's - hoping it'll get the single treatment at some point. After "River" I'm hoping they may go something like:
1. "Flowers"
2. "River"
3. "Jaded"
4. "Violent Chemsitry"
5. "Wildcard"
I think we'll be lucky if they go beyond a 3rd single as very few artists seem to do this day. Unless maybe she releases a remixed version of a song with a feature. I can see "Violent Chemistry" working really well as a duet with each singer singing 1 verse and the chorus themelves separatley and then blending together for the final chorus. "Violent Chemsitry (feat. Harry Styles)" *_*
All of the best songs were on the second half huh? “Violet Chemistry” and “Island” in particular really hypnotized me and “Handstand” works perfectly as an interlude.
Yup agree with most people that the second half is muuuuch better than the first! Found everything up to "River" a little forgettable (or maybe the songs just need time to grow), but everything from there onwards is great.
"Wonder Woman" might actually be my favourite on first listen, it's stunning. Absolutely love River too
All these rave reviews, maybe o should add it to my list of albums to check out.
Hmm. It's another Miley album for me — it has all the ingredients to be something special but is too inconsistent to make it over the line. I wish she fully committed to the hazy sunkissed LA sound that she really excels at. 'Slide Away' would have been perfect here at the end with 'Island'.
Justice for 'Taste of My Own'
Very underwhelming start on streaming tbh
I think you need to put it in perspective , I think Flowers was a one off and connected with the public in a huge way. It's still doing well and will still likely go to #1 in the UK at least.
She was foolish for only having one single leading into it though and not really doing too much in the way of promo.
She should've released it sooner, I think. Not as 'Flowers' starts to lose it's momentum. I think it would've benefitted her more that way.. she would have had more impulse buys/streams I think. Also, doing absolutely NOTHING promo wise and expecting it to sell just off the back of 'Flowers'? Her promo seems to be a bit better leading into the album/this week (I HIGHLY recommend her Backyard Sessions on Disney+ btw) but it's going to take more than that.
EDIT: I don't think this is a flop by any stretch of the imagination though. It's just weird how 'Flowers' being the major streaming force it is, but then her album being just another Miley-sized album as opposed to being an album that's as big as it's lead single (if that makes sense)
Plastic Hearts opened with 15k in the UK and 60k in the US so anything better than those is a plus.
I really like this as a whole on first listen.
The second half does kind of go off a bit more but overall I really like this! It’s not quite as brash as Plastic Hearts and I can see some people may prefer that but I really think this will grow on people a lot!
She sounds stunning on this as well (especially on Wonder Woman!)
My only little niggle of wanting more comes from Muddy Feet which I’d have loved to have been around a minute or so longer and maybes an actual verse from Sia. I loved the Brandi collab though
Really hoping this is her second UK #1 album come Friday!
It didn’t grab me on first listen the way her previous did but I’m hoping after a few listens it’ll be fine!
I do think my only gripe with this is the tracklisting order. I get that she wanted the "AM" and "PM" concept, but she really should've spaced out 'Flowers', 'Jaded' & 'Rose Colored Lenses' as I think they're all a bit *too* similar (sonically) to each other to be back-to-back-to-back... as the opening of the album.
River better not peak at #11 this week I’m guessing it should manage to go top 10 but it’s so f***ing good
The Miley #11 curse!!!
I am... not completely blown over by this on first listen. It definitely peaks with Flowers, the rest will need time I think. I think some of the songs lack real power or punch when it should be there given the subject matters. Muddy Feet gets close but clunky lyrics let it down (Sia's ad-libs gave me goosebumps with Miley singing over them though).
I find her voice quite grating in places too (Wonder Woman and Wildcard). Island is great and I appreciate the interesting structure and repetitiveness of the refrain. There's good moments throughout but not great moments which is what I entered expecting off the back of Flowers. Violet Chemistry I really liked and will return to a lot I think.
I much prefer Plastic Hearts for now but I will give this more time to see if it grows ~
I've listened a few times now. I really want to like this a lot and there's not anything terrible but at the moment I'm scoring it along these lines...
08.0 Flowers
07.0 Jaded
05.0 Rose Colored Lenses
07.5 Thousand Miles
04.5 You
07.5 Handstand
07.0 River
07.5 Violet Chemistry
06.5 Muddy Feet
05.5 Wildcard
07.0 Island
08.0 Wonder Woman
I don't see River being that big a hit to be honest, I can see why it would appeal to the bigger pop fans here but I don't think it sounds like something that would resonate really widely (watch me be completely wrong now but that's how I'm feeling about it at the moment)... Wonder Woman is probably my favourite, although it really reminds me of Candle in the Wind in places. Also, the synth line in River makes me sing Lizzo's About Damn Time.
So yeah, it's kinda fine but most tracks are somehow missing something that bit extra to really make them soar. There's nothing that matches the highs of Plastic Hearts for me (namely Midnight Sky, WTF Do I Know, Gimme What I Want, Angels Like You and the title track)
Yeah Angels Like You alone defeats everything on this album.
US predictions
Uff floppin a bit
This is fine. Just fine. Nothing spectacular and nothing that stands out. I even prefer Younger Now to this album as a whole.
Actually when comparing albums this is very far from her best. Unsure what most of you are hearing but this is very badly produced and mixed. Lyrics are half arsed. Dead Petz is crying x
Her voice also sounds the worst it has on any album which is very upsetting as she had so much potential to be THAT GIRL with this album
She's going to be very lucky to get anymore success single wise with these songs
Muddy Feet is very close to a 10/10 however
Wildcard was a fave for me kinda shocked at the reaction to it
Well I called it debuting behind Morgan's second week in the US but totally did not realise TWICE's album would be selling that much! (Also I forgot her opening sales for her last two albums were as low as that whoops).
Should get #1 in the UK pretty easily though one would think.
Longevity could be more the goal of what they’re going for as far as the albums concerned. (Obviously a strong debut is a bonus) but I have a feeling Miley / the label are going to try and get an era out of this.
(I’ve bought two copies of this now to help her out in the UK ).
Violet Chemistry. I'm OBSESSED
I don't get the negativity...this album is stunning. An earworm and stunning from start to finish.
'Island' is pure bliss
And 'Handstand' is pure filth! The production on that though 👌
She probably should have released next week
Hopefully she gets a new peak down the line with promotion
Jaded is really hitting me now
#3 is a little underwhelming for an album off the back of the biggest song of the year from someone publications are (definitely prematurely) calling the biggest star right now...
I have had the album on repeat all weekend as I tend to do with big releases. 'Violet Chemistry' continue to grow and grow - the era's shining song imo, how sublime is it!? Also 'Handstand' has hit me in all of its warped chaos. It reminds me of Madonna's Music era (and we know Madge is always a big inspiration for Miley). Those simple moments that suddenly shift into warped, frenzied vibes *.*
I am liking a fair few songs and indifferent to a few too. Why is 'River' being pushed for example, it's bottom third on the album for me!
Violet Chemistry is the best song on the album
Every song is stunning! My faveourite album for a long time....
Any news of a tour?
muddy feet is really giving mothers daughter vibes and i am here. for. ITTTTT. it really slays fr, though sia's 20 seconds at the end is very pointless lmao.
edit: sias bit, though quite pointless, really slays. i love itttt
Conversely I think the end section is possibly the best part of that track
I’m pretty sure they predicted P!nk to debut at no.5 with about 55k and she ended up at no. 2 with 74k so it might be a conservative estimate.
The middle eight in Thousand Miles is so disappointing...could have been a massive moment.
I thought the album was ok, really liking Thousand Miles and River but overall for me it wasn’t an amazing listen.
album set for #1 debut on albums, flowers set for a 9th week at #1, river looks like itll have a top 20 debut and jaded is looking to make the top 40 too!
Apparently a Deluxe is coming in the summer
Been totally obsessed with the album this week - can't get enough of Handstand and Violet Chemistry
Just realised I never commented about this album before - I absolutely love Rock Miley so for me Plastic Hearts outsold in every way (Angels Like You is kinda the best song of all time), but this is still a great album! I get that it's going for a more chilled summery vibe which really shines on Flowers and Island. Violet Chemistry is pure excellence, and I love the verses of River but the chorus lets it down a little imo. Also does anyone else hear Angel by Sarah McLachlan in Wonder Woman?
Maybe they realised they couldn’t get any higher so will push in a couple of weeks again with a remix?
Violet Chemistry feat Selena would be HUGE
Didn't love this album as much as I was hoping to, after getting into Plastic Hearts a lot and enjoying 'Flowers', but I am really into 'Handstand' - a pleasingly off-kilter bop *.*
She’s got herself another #1 album in the UK!
2023 really is her year so far but she definitely deserved a #1 album with Plastic Hearts (case of releasing against strong pure sellers in release week went against her there!).
Sales breakdown in UK for the album (from the Sales thread).
18,746 Miley Cyrus - Endless Summer Vacation [4,969 CDs, 3,150 vinyl, 2,385 downloads, 8,242 streaming]
I’ve been sold on this album from first listen personally! I do kinda see the response though as it is a bit less in your face and more on the chilled side for half of the album but I think she sounds stunning on it - hoping the album grows for those who were not in love instantly
This is all just so... meh?
Let's be honest, the Endless Summer Vacation ended at Island. Wonder Woman doesn't fit into this album at all for me.. so really, this 'Endless Summer Vacation' is about 35 minutes.
Breaking that down a bit further, both collabs are pretty bad. Why are we giving Sia a platform? Muddy Feet is god awful.
River isn't as good as what everyone is putting out there.
I mean, the album is cute! Definitely not worth the hype leading up to the album unfortunately.
Very disappointing album. Flowers is the only truly great song on it. No wonder they never released anything else. Some tracks were so bad I couldn't finish them. The vocal production is not great, it sounds like they rushed this and I'd be surprised if she gets another big hit from it. River is definitely the best of a weak bunch so good on them going for that 2nd.
I'm still loving this album and I think I prefer it to 'Plastic Hearts' and really don't understand the comments on her vocals when everyone stanned PH which to me was much screechier and had vocals that seemed more piercing to me. It's what stopped me from "loving" an album I enjoy... in doses.
I love how it essentially rolls every other Miley era into one album. But that's just me ofc.
I watched her concert/documentary on Disney+ last night and I found myself enjoying it and the songs more than when I first listened. My favorites are Jaded, Island, Wonder Woman, and Violet Chemistry.
The album is amazing, each song is great. Islands and Violet Chemistry must become singles!
This ranks so far as third best album imo
1 Younger Now
2 Plastic Hearts
3 Endless Summer Vacation
4 Bangerz
5 Can’t Be Tamed
6 Breakout
This record is just so boring compared to "Plastic Hearts". On that record she explored new territory and absolutely smashed it!!! This album is just meh in comparison. Sure, I do like Wonder Woman, You and River but the rest is a mess.
Officially #3 in the US, behind Morgan Wallen & TWICE.
Younger Now is a solid 10/10
I always thought Younger Now wasn’t one of the popular albums.
I think for me:
01. ESV
02. CBT
03. PH
04. Bangerz
05. YN
I haven’t heard the other albums enough to rank them. I know it’s an unpopular opinion to have PH any lower than the top 2 at least, but although it IS a good album, as I said, I find her vocals particularly grating on majority of that album and it hinders it for me. I actually don’t hate or dislike YN either. In fact, I very nearly put it above Bangerz. The latter has some truly awful shit but the highs are stellar and amongst the top 10 of her career + it was very “of it’s time” and I was all over it back in 2013!
ESV just does it for me. Except for one or two songs, it’s the most listenable her voice is throughout an album for me and I have every song stuck in my head at one point or another.
1) Plastic Hearts
2) Can't Be Tamed
3) Bangerz
4) Endless Summer Vacation
*) She is Coming
5) Breakout
6) Younger Now
*) The Time of Our Lives
7) Meet Miley Cyrus
8) Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz
I really like ESV, but I'm not sure it'll reach my top 3 Miley albums.
I wonder if Jaded will be pushed as a single alongside River? It’s ahead on Spotify despite no playlisting.
I’m still positive Violet Chemistry will be single 3 with Selena
I really really enjoy Rose Colored Lenses and Muddy Feat haven't taken anything else from this album
Looks like they’re pulling the plug on River and capitalising on Jaded.
Interesting, I wonder if radio will immediately switch to playing 'Jaded' instead of 'River' too?
I hope they pull all and give us a Violet Chemistry remix with Selena and tag it onto Spotify!
'Flowers' just got an 8th week at #1 in the US!
miley needs to stop being so quiet
Predicted a 9th week next week too!
The second single is such a messy campaign, let’s move on from river / jaded debate and remix violet chemistry
i really can’t believe how messy this campaign has been
It really does feel like they've severely f***ed up somewhere, in what looked like a promising era (like they ALWAYS seem to with her once the album has actually been released)
'Jaded' is such an obvious smash — it would be too much of a wasted opportunity if they fumble it.
She has literally done nothing since the New Year's Eve event and she's had the biggest song in the world throughout it all. Crazy!
I think it's more that 'Flowers' was an anomalously big song rather than her particularly dropping the ball with the rest of the era tbh. Although the fairly muted reception to the rest of the album can't have helped.
They should just fully push "Jaded" and pull support for "River". The backyard performance of "Jaded" will overtake the one for "River" soon despite it being released later. Hopefully it'll move up HHUK and become a decent sized hit!
"Jaded" being fully pushed to US radio now. Looks like it's going to get a big push in the upcoming weeks. Hopefully it'll be added to a number of spotify playlists and rumours are that the music video will be released this Friday!
Let's hope it does better than River! (it seemed to be doing so before it was a single so i have high hopes <3)
'Jaded' music video today I believe!
Such a weak single choice. Aerosmith's Jaded is so much better.
re-release with promo in the summer please
She looks amazing absolutely stunning that video is actually really quite good. Song is mediocre , they should have gone for Rose Coloured Lenses however very very weak album in general.
'Island' would be an ideal summer single
'Violet Chemistry' does deserve a release, but given how they've seemingly F-ed up the campaign already (as per usual) I can't blame them for playing it safe.
I think maybe due to some deal with RCA she couldn’t perform the songs or something? Volume 2 should be better
new miley material expected within the next month
I really, really want/need 'Island' to start taking off on Tik Tok or something so it becomes a hit over the coming months... it sounds phenomenal in this weather.
Rumoured to be in talks to do the SuperBowl next year... with 2 male names...
Wh...why can't she do a solo one?
Surely she is big enough to do it on her own?
She literally has enough big hits to cover her own too just choose from:
- See You Again
- 7 Things
- Party In the USA
- The Climb
- Can't Be Tamed
- Jolene
- We Can't Stop
- Wrecking Ball
- Nothing Breaks Like A Heart
- Midnight Sky (room for Stevie Nicks to be a big named surprise guest too if they wanted to do the 'Edge of Seventeen' remix!)
- Prisoner (again - Dua could be a great surprise guest too)
- Flowers
- 2 x new songs (which I assume could blow up by the time it comes around...)
Just choose 7-9 of these and do a couple of "mash-up"/medley type moments...
It's not uncommon for there to be multiple big name headliners.
You're right, it's not. But she deserves a solo one, imo.
Oh totally. She's more than proved herself as a live act, and I would love to have 15 minutes of her on the worlds biggest stage! <3
Only here for it if it includes The Climb, See You Again and Party in the USA.
I could see something like:
1. Party in the USA
2. Flowers
3. Jolene (guest Dolly Parton)
5. Nothing breaks like a heart
6. Prisoner (guest Dua Lipa)
7. Midnight sky
8. Wrecking ball
9. The climb
Going down a storm!
Crazy they think she needs 2 extra people and cannot do it solo
was the same with J Lo and Shakira
Go Miley!
Re-listening to this album and I just love it so much. It's the most "Miley" album yet, imo. I feel it manages to put together elements of every one of her albums and manages to give us a complete and cohesive project.
Also, 'River' deserved to smash. 'Flowers' drowned (pun intended???) that out completely and it's a shame! But I just want 'Violet Chemistry' to get it's moment. It's not going to though if the rumours about the 2nd half of the project coming next month are true
I also really love this as a whole album listen too
It flows so well and I think she sounds so great on it too. I can kinda see why it got a bit of a mixed reception on here because it’s not necessarily as pop like as what Bangerz was or as in your face as Plastic Hearts but I think it’s a very solid album! I do hope there can be a bit more to come from the era though it’s so good and there’s too many good songs on there to go unnoticed.
Flowers won Record of the Year and Pop Solo performance!
Miley now officially a GRAMMY award winner after all these years. Probably my personal highlight of the night. She’s been well overdue an award for years now and to get two on one night - I’m absolutely made up for her hopefully this is the start of her recognition not even just winning wise but a lot of her finest material not even getting a nomination! Delighted for her and so happy she attended and performed too
Well done Miley! I was surprised to learn she hadn't previously won a Grammy.
Her performance of Flowers was great, channeling Tina Turner (lol at Miley calling out the audience towards the beginning)
Such a good performance and a deserved 2 wins for her. Say what you want about 'Flowers' but it really WAS "Record of the Year". It was/is unstoppable.
So happy for her! It's well overdue. I wish PH/Midnight Sky got the same recognition but I think that era set Miley up perfectly to launch 'Flowers'. Now she needs to release 'Island' this spring.
Wow I am surprised she's never won a Scammy before now!
I have a newfound appreciation for this album! Loving Island and Thousand Miles, those kind of passed me by on my initial listens. It’s a much better album than I gave it credit for
