Analysis

A good week for a particular artist who shall soon be revealed…The Music DVD chart sees an excellent videos collection by Daft Punk move up to No.1 with Missy moving down to No.3 while Now 2006 remains in 2nd place…The album chart this week sees a huge 16 slippers due to 2 very high new entries. Only 2 albums can maintain their position; Kelly Clarkson’s Thankful and KT Tunstall’s longest runner…Although most have tiny falls, the bigger drops are from; Atomic Kitten and Sugababes who fall 5 and 4 place respectively…Delta, Shakira, Kelly Clarkson and The Cardigans all slide a place each inside the top 10 while Corinne Bailey Rae and The Veronicas dip 2 places each to the foot of the top 5. Daft Punk easily improve on their peak position of Human After All (No.7) to debut at No.3 with their greatest hits, Musique Vol.1. Carrie Underwood spends an 11th week in the top 2, this time falling from the top again while newcomer, UK singer Nerina Pallot goes straight in at No.1, the first album to enter at the top since Madonna, 5 months ago!!!

The singles chart has five new entries this week courtesy of two sources. I have decided to allow Eurovision songs to enter the chart from the start of April. This sees German’s Texas Lightning and Sweden’s Carola debut at No.19 and No.6 respectively with 4 other songs in the chart breakers section…Nerina Pallot gives the chart three new entries with All good people at No.20, Idaho at No.15 and the single, Everybody’s gone to war entering at No.2, the highest debut for a new act since Missy Higgins went in at No.1 almost a year ago with Ten Days!!! Elsewhere outside the top 10 there are slides from Corinne Bailey Rae, Carrie Underwood and The Veronicas, while Speechless by the Australian duo climbs back up a place on its 10th week in the chart…Danish dance act Infernal jump up to No.12 from No.15 with From Paris to Berlin…The Veronicas and The Cardigans slide to the foot of the top 10 while Carrie Underwood moves up to No.8 on her 7th week in the top 10 with I ain’t in Checotah anymore!!! Shakira shoots up 10 places to a new peak of No.7 with Hips don’t lie just behind Carola while Carrie Underwood dips to No.5 on her 11th week with Jesus take the wheel. Delta Goodrem slides to No.4 after two weeks at the top while Embrace slide just a place to No.3 with Nature’s Law!!! Nerina debuts as two which means that huge American male duo Gnarls Barkley jump up to No.1 with the amazing Crazy, becoming the 5th male act to top the chart in recent times following; Daniel Powter, James Blunt, Bob Sinclar and Meck!!!
