    Andrew's Review
Now That’s What I Call Music! 83 otherwise known as Now 83 came to music stores everywhere in the late Autumn of 2012. It contained some 43 of the latest hits around and a total of 12 UK #1 singles. Only a single artist made their debut on this volume who then went on to appear at least one other occasion in the series, and than was the opening track from Psy.

Certainly a few omissions that would have surprised people at the time, not least of these was the absence of Adele who was a series favourite by this time, but her #2 theme for the latest James Bond franchise didn’t make the cut. This was also the case for Emeli Sandι, Public Enemy, Far East Movement, Otto Knows, Dappy, Porter Robinson, Of Monsters And Men And The Killers to name a few.

As for one hit wonders, this volume marked the only occasion that there has been music from Redlight, Sam And The Womp, Amelia Lily, Karmin, Trey Songz, Simple Plan, Angel and Elbow.

Artwork Rating: 9/10 Amazing
A stunning display of fireworks makes this one of the best artworks for me. It’s visually stunning and electric, and it works so well too. I like the logo colour choice and the theme of an ice lake with snow falling too. It is a very good idea and it would be used again for the 100th volume a few years later.

Disc 1 Favourite: Swedish House Mafia feat. John Martin – Don’t You Worry Child
Probably the most remembered single by Swedish House Mafia, it’s a stellar production and vocals and it spending a week at the top of the charts was certainly a highlight of 2012. It was just such an anticlimax when there was no more music from these guys again afterward.

Disc 2 Favourite: Elbow – One Day Like This
Technically this was a favourite song from 2008, which was the year it was first released, but thanks to renewed popularity from the use in the London Olympics in 2012 it was able to make a new peak and gain a feature on this volume. One of my favourite songs of the last decade in fact.

Disc 3 Tracklist:
(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Adele – Skyfall 4:46 {2}
2. Emeli Sandι – Read All About It, Pt. III 4:43 {3}
3. Leona Lewis feat. Childish Gambino – Trouble 3:42 {7}
4. Dappy – Good Intentions 3:49 {12}
5. Tulisa feat. Tyga – Live It Up 3:36 {11}
6. Conor Maynard – Vegas Girl 2:51 {4}
7. Justin Bieber feat. Nicki Minaj – Beauty & A Beat 3:47 {16}
8. Far East Movement feat. Cover Drive – Turn Up The Love 3:15 {13}
9. David Guetta feat. Chris Brown & Lil Wayne – I Can Only Imagine 3:29 {18}
10. Nicki Minaj – Va Va Voom 3:03 {20}
11. Dizzee Rascal feat. Pepper – Scream 2:36 {22}
12. Rebecca Ferguson – Backtrack 3:09 {15}
13. Bastille – Flaws 3:37 {21}
14. Lucy Spraggan – Last Night (Beer Fear) 2:13 {11}
15. Of Monsters And Men – Little Talks 4:26 {12}
16. The Killers – Runaway 4:06 {18}
17. Willy Moon – Yeah Yeah 2:43 {34}
18. Otto Knows – Million Voices 3:10 {14}
19. Porter Robinson – Language 3:19 {9}
20. Sub Focus feat. Alpines – Tidal Wave 3:46 {12}
21. Cedric Gervais – Molly 2:45 {26}
22. DJ Fresh feat. RaVaughn – The Feeling 3:28 {13}
23. Madeon – Finale 3:25 {35}
----------
Total time: 1:19:44

Overall Rating: 7/10 Very Good
A good attempt this to create a fresh, appealing selection of various artists and many genres mixed together and the finished outcome goes down a treat. I think there is certainly room for improvement for some of the forgotten songs and some of the unforgotten omissions, but it’s not too bad. The iconic Gangnam Style that swept the nation being the opening track was a good decision too.

Andrew's Best 5 (as of May 2018)

Artwork: 9/10
A party of an artwork, one of the best and definitely reflects on the quality of the songs included.

Overall: 9/10
The sound of Summer 2012, a time when I was moving far away for the second time in two years and radio was big. It's extremely hard to pick a favourite disc as both contain such great songs from start to finish.

Of the omissions I'm not missing too much. Skyfall, Flaws, and Little Talks are big songs I loved back then so would've been nice to see added. Runaway is decent but not one of the best The Killers singles, same goes for Justin Bieber and Christina Aguilera songs.

Wasn’t this around the time of Green Days comeback? I thought Oh Love would’ve chatted at like #20 or something for a week around this time huh
