So the finale of the year is nearly upon us and we are choosing direction...
What sounds most like something you want to discover, or hear from us, out of... 1) Back to our rap roots trashy upbeat rap song like Brooke Candy 2) Spanish rap girl bop 3) Wintry metal ballad following on our sound from 109 ???? |

Yes, Myrtle Snow has granted Dobbo's winter wish and sent to 110 our Spanish bop by rapper/hitmaker/tattoo artist Chilean chica Tomasa Del Real. We were very tempted by the American rap track this month too but decided ultimately this has a better video and it's fun to promote a more unknown artist, plus, I did mean to send something Spanish this year and this was the last chance to do so. Essentially this is a pretty fun rap/club song with some reggaeton elements, currently top tenning on my personals, with a great video with weave, twerk team and cars and explosions, because why not. Here in Jupiterdonia we're big fans, hopefully some of y'all will enjoy it too And yes...Jupiterdonia rap nation confirmed oops :') |

Unfortunately after a cracking start and picking up a few fans Tomasa turned out to be a little of a dud pick closing the year 37th of 38 with what may be our worst result yet in a main contest
Jupiterdonia fans will be pleased to note we'll be changing direction for the first contest of 2019 with a dance entry up our sleeves, and it's a bit of a throwback too. Hopefully that will do better for us than our last DNQ-ing foray - #Justice4SynCole! This post has been edited by MÿrtleSnow: 3rd January 2019, 01:37 AM |

Hey folks, so, quick question. We have a song, and as is usual for dance songs, there's a long edit or a short edit. Would y'all prefer I send a 4 min short edit or 8 minute long club edit? xo

Normally I prefer a shorter but I've gone for the long one this time! Cheers for the input

Hope your ears are ready! Yes, for this edition (111) Jupiterdonia is bringing you some suitably spacey classic trance from Nadia Ali and Tritonal, dating back to 2010 - nearly a decade ago, lord! Both names should be reasonably well known to dance fans. Nadia is of course one half of IIO, the early 00s dance collective that brought us the sublime Rapture - one I've actually not heard for a while, though it was a smash at the time and replayed a lot in the early 2010s - alongside a few other hits. (Actually, some of you might better know the Avicii [RIP] remix!) Nadia has nearly 20 years in the biz as a dance vocalist and has most lately been releasing as HYLLS - a new acoustic project, while Tritonal have swung more recently into the dance pop crossover zone, dipping a toe into commercial subs like tropical house. Ali has been sent before but I don't think has qualified, so here's hoping we buck the trend! We're aware this is a slight departure from our usual remit as the first long song we've sent, but actually tbh, this is a rare case of the length being justified I would say. The build in this is really gorgeous and it's a great song either to just listen to or especially, in the Darude Sandstorm vein, to work out to. We're hoping as ever to pick up some fans and qualify in our semi - luckily managing to land with some other dancebloc allies might help us out! As ever, thoughts and comments happily received, a chat in the thread is always good to get going! x This post has been edited by MÿrtleSnow: 21st January 2019, 08:17 PM |

Nadia Ali was sent 3 times before but hasn't really had a hit yet (one DNQ, one that qualified and came last and one in a 'one big final' contest which finished bottom 10) - Tritonal also haven't had much luck as they've been entered twice before with both DNQing, the first of which was at the time one of the highest scoring songs in a semi-final to miss out Best of luck outperforming that history. x
I am surprised to see you of all people sending such a long song based on some of your comments on plug, looking forward to hearing it. |

Well, we beat the low predictions and ended up back in the top half for the first time in a few contests now, coming overall 17th and picking up 3x top scores in the semi and two in the final! (very welcome)
Also getting some nice high scores from unexpected quarters (notably Jade) while also missing out on some of the dancebloc, oh well though, not everything is to everyone's taste! Didn't vote for the overall winner but didn't think it was bad for the field, just tend to swing more towards acts I don't already know! We've already picked our next entry and so will be back in the next edition with a more indie pop sound that we're hoping should have good crossover appeal! So look out for that. And to bow out Nadia, here's the short(er) version of our entry this time - with, as you'll see, an absolutely godawful lyric video. |

Stuck on what to send for the next one!
Y'all want an act that's been sent before who have a new sound now, or an act that's never been sent before - yet who have been active for a number of years? Both are in the indie-pop-rock spectrum? I'm also considering a PC music-like instrumental, male vocal edm love song and a pure pop girl one with falsetto elements. |

Haven't had a PC music sorta entry for a while now after there being one nigh-on guaranteed in every contest back in 16/17 so that could be cool.

Whatever you do end up deciding to send, I hope it’s as good as your last entry!

We qualified! Jupiterdonia rock nation confirmed
Seriously great to bring this through to the final tho, esp against such a tough crowd in our semi. Extending that Q run... Hope you all who've not heard it yet enjoy it in the final, too! |

Another 24th isn't bad, but we'd like to do better! Back to something more poppy for 113 we think. Hopefully picking up some fans altho its not a flavour we've been for a while. Subject to veto of course, but our first try is pretty squarely pop with a slight folky-country twang to it like some of our recent faves inside & outside the site contests 😁
