Robbie Williams Kicks for Charity

Sports: 23 March 2006, Thursday.
British rock star Robbie Williams will captain an all-stars team in a charity football game, organized by the Soccer Aid foundation.
All the funds accumulated from the series of games that will take place over the summer will go to UNICEF. Football legends and celebrities from all over the world will clash in the tournament called "England Against the World".
Williams already has gathered experience enough to lead his team to victory, for he played in another charity game in 2005. "I have been a goodwill ambassador with UNICEF since 2000," Williams said. "These football matches gave me the opportunity to spent some of the happiest moments in my life."
The musician added that during his trips with UNICEF he had seen a lot of happy smiles form children and that he would like to return the gesture by playing in the Soccer Aid.
The big game will take place at the legendary Old Trafford stadium in London , where thousands are expected to support the good cause and their favorite stars in a new role.
It should be great. I'm not going but look forward to seeing it on TV
I'll give u a wave Scotty!! LOL!
Thanks Hulio
Very welcome, altho u won't have a clue its me!! And guaranteed I wont be the only person waving! LOL!
Oh well u know the thought was there!
Wear a silly hat and then wave?
We'll know it's you no probs.
I'll be watching on telly too. Unless some big brute kicks him then I'll be down the M74 at 300 mph.
Already hatching banner plans jupiter9, an England flag that'll probably incorporate my name and RockDJ's so u shouldn't miss us should a camera point in our direction!!
and if the banner doesn't get their attention, hulio's streak is sure to
Hi RockDJ
PS Did I mention I will be supporting the 'Rest of the World' Team?
Hi Jupiter
My daughter is coming with us and she's threatening to support the RoW team as well!
Streak!?? What streak!?
Don't give me a reputation RockDJ! I think people like me here, I don't want to be putting them off me for life!! LOL!
Of course they like you I apologise - there won't be any streaking from hulio (or me)!
So no excuses for taking your eyes off the ball
LOL! Thats better!! Can't have people thinking I'm a hussy now can we!
(Hello hun!)
Having said that...if it gets Robbies attention...hhmmmmmm
Come to think of it ... it will probably be a bit cold for stripping off! We're only soft southerners remember - not used to venturing ooop north!
Hi
This is very true and I get a feeling your daughter will disown us if we try anything like that!! Has she got her ticket yet btw?
Yes - we are all sorted ticket wise now thanks! Even got the hotel booked! There must be something we've forgotten LOL!
EXCELLENT! Do u know, I think we're all sorted for once!! WOW! Miracles do happen! I just need to sort my train ticket to u now and that'll be it!
(Sorry I haven't signed in tonight, really shouldn't stay up too late-knackered!!)
Yep - I do believe we may have done something right for once!
(I should have gone to bed ages ago - better say goodnight now!)
Sorry everyone for threadnapping but I'll make it up to you by leaving you with this thought -
ROBBIE IN SHORTS!!!
Night hun, speak to u soon
And my apologies for the slight thread-napping too!
What a lovely thought RockDJ, thank you
Don't forget to practice zooming with those cameras girls .....we are relying on you
LOL Hulio if its a choice between you streaking and Robbie losing his shorts..it would be a double whammy and would probably stop the game. so I won't tell you who I will fix my peepers on.
LOL! Oh believe me Susie, there'd be no competition between the 2! I'm praying that he has a shorts incident!! LOL! Definitely getting my camera zoom ready in case!
Well according to The Star today, Dubai may have a lot to answer for..they report that Robbie fell down some stairs and has injured his groin and may not be fit to actually play in the event, which he will be gutted about.
I know in his blog he talked about this kind of injury before, so its either a throw back to that, or he has aggrevated it again.
I am not spitting chips yet..
Nooooooooooooooooooooooo
Susie, please tell me its not true!!!
Uh-oh!
This is not good.
I think you've just made the understatement of the year jupiter!!!!
It is a catastrophic cataclysmic disaster of biblical proportions.
Is that ok Hulio?
Getting warmer jupiter! Thanks!
It's all that jupiter said with a few Category A swear words thrown in!
But I have to show some sympathy cos I fell down the stairs at the weekend too LOL!
Robbie doubtful for Soccer Aid
11.45AM, Mon Apr 24 2006
Footie-mad Robbie Williams is in danger of limping out of this summer's Soccer Aid.
The former Take That singer is said to have strained his groin falling down a flight of stairs after a gig in Dubai.
Robbie had been set to captain his team for the charity tournament.
He will still be hoping for a speed recovery, and is having acupuncture to try to heal the injury.
Williams, 32, is well-known for his love of soccer, having recently become a shareholder in Port Vale.
One person who probably won't be wishing our Robbo well is marathon-running superchef Gordon Ramsay who is captaining the rival team.
from itv.com
and from the Sun online
HEARTLESS touts are flogging tickets to see a televised celebrity football showdown — meaning a children’s charity loses out on funds.
The Soccer Aid tickets are being sold for more than £100 on auction website eBay.
Fans are snapping them up at the inflated prices instead of using the official phoneline which raises cash for Unicef.
An insider at ITV, which is screening the match, said: “It’s ridiculous because there are still tickets available through the proper channels which are just £15 for adults and £5 for children.
“We made eBay aware of it but apparently it’s not illegal.â€
Robbie Williams, who is having acupuncture for a groin injury, will captain an England team against Gordon Ramsay’s Rest of the World XI at Old Trafford on May 27. Call 0870 442 1999 for tickets.
FOUR new signings for Soccer Aid can be revealed by TV Biz today — and they’ll ALL play in goal.
Former Arsenal and England keeper David Seaman and telly host Jamie Theakston will take turns between the sticks for Robbie’s team.
Ex-Man United goalie, Dane Peter Schmeichel will play for the Rest of the World with Irish TV star Patrick Kielty.
An insider said: “Patrick and Jamie are very brave. They’re up against the likes of Maradona and Gazza.â€
I would have though Ebay would have stopped these tickets being sold on their site. Especially as it is for charity. The did for Live 8
Don't know what to do now. if Robbie does not play, I am not sure if I want to go.
Maybe he'll provide the Half Time Entertainment if he doesn't play?
He always seems to be injuring that groin doesn't he? Maybe it gets overused....
Another similar report, this time from EntertainmentWise.com
Robbie Williams Injures His Groin
Just weeks before Soccer Aid...
By: Lowri Williams on 4/24/2006
Pop star Robbie Williams has injured his groin just weeks before he is due to play in the Soccer Aid tournament.
Robbie was reportedly left severely hurt after he fell down a flight of stairs after performing at the Nad Al Sheba stadium in Dubai.
A source said to the Star of the injury: “The area is very tender but he’s having acupuncture as he’ll be gutted if he has to miss it.â€
Robbie is scheduled to be playing against Gordon Ramsey’s team that is made up of among other Maradona, Gianfranco Zola and Marcel Desailly. (Weren't they all real footballers? )
The ex Take Thatter is hoping that his team of Jude Law, Orlando Bloom and Shayne Ward can kick some ass. (Oh Lordy, panic over. Look who Robbie's got.... )
Its all very worrying, but I have a feeling it'll take more than this to keep him from playing.
I was wondering earlier if Robbie needs me to go rub the sore area for him...I'm willing and able!!
I'm liking the team more and more tho, there's some players there who are very pleasant on the eye, shall we say!
And yes, there are some ex-pro players jupiter9, both teams are a mix of ex-pro and celebs.
Hope u recover soon from your nasty decorating incident RockDJ I'm sorry tho, I will not be offering you the massage services, my busy hands are for Robbies injury only!!!
Thanks hulio! Actually it's not massage I need - I've decided I need a nice young man to walk up and down my spine and manipulate it! I'm sure Robbie and I should be recovering together - it could be quite therapeutic!
I agree Jude and Orlando are very pleasing on the eye but they're wimpy weeds. A gust of wind will topple them...
Who does RW have in his team that is butch n manly and able to take the feet from Big Gordon Ramsay (who was also a Professional Footballer before he became a Chef btw )?
Is David Beckham playing in Robbie's Team (guess not with the world cup coming up )?
Not that I care as I'll be supporting the 'Rest of the World' Team anyway. Just don't want to see Rob and his 'Pretty Boys United' get hurt
It cracks me up how u seem to feel that u both now have this special bond!!! LOL!
I was telling my Mum earlier and we were cracking up!!
Thanks! I know how highly your Mum already thinks of me! She'll be offering to come up here and babysit next so that I can go out and get a life LOL!
It would be lovely if DB was playing jupiter, but I think that might be a cheeky move as he's a current world class player!! I am well aware of Gordons footballing history, but hopefully the injury that retired him will play up!!!
Mwa-hahahahaaa
LOL! RockDJ! It was a funny moment, sorry!
I'm sure she thinks you're lovely and not at all sad really!!
Has Vinnie Jones been mentioned anywhere?
Poor Robbie (Do you like my chosen Smiley?)
Perfect smiley jupiter! No mention of Vinnie!! Shame, he'd probably cause a few injuries for the others!!
(Did anyone watch the Champions league tonight! YAY..The Gunners!! Sorry! Had to be done!)
Oh did they win Hulio?
And Vinnie would be in the ROTW Team surely? He played footie for Wales? (When I say 'played footie' I really mean 'Kicked everyone off the park' )
Oh I dunno! He's such a cockney lad! Would rather he was on Englands side if he did play!!
I just googled Vinnie, he was born in Watford, think he could get away with playing on the England side!!
Yeah. He's definitely English.
Think he chose to play for Wales because he wanted to play international football and knew he hadn't a hope in hell of being picked for England.
Think his milkman's great grandfather was Welsh and that qualified him to play for them
I did read that David Beckham will not play, even though he would like too, the World Cup is to near to risk it, which leads me to say that I was surprised that Robbie's management would let him play so close to his European tour.
There is too much at stake to risk either of them really. I bet they will be involved in some other way though.
Selling the programmes at the gates maybe?
Tickets have arrived
Great news Dory
Could you imagine him on the Gate..nobody would go in.
Our tickets came today too, they are for my son and his mates, although one has now dropped out..but I did get a twinge of excitement looking at them.
Happy to say that our tickets came today as well
Wahoooo!!!!
Off we go!!!
Wonder how his groin is? Hope he's not still
Think the Official Site should give us a daily update on it's progress.....
... with pictures
Lot's of pictures

Veeeeeeeeeeeeeery nice
Bradley Walsh has apparently signed up to play in Robbie's Team. I like Bradley . I find him strangely sexy....
Oh and Jamie Redknapp too.
I don't know him
He's a star on Coronation Street, Twinkle (a long-running UK Soap Opera).
This is him????
Yeah that's him!
To be fair, it's not the most flattering of photos.
I hope so....all I see is an old man
Here is a better pic of Bradley
You're right....it's better
At least he doesn't have a beard......
Are you feeling ok Jupiter? I'm a bit concerned about you & Bradley. I suppose he does play the bad boy in Corrie - maybe that's what it is LOL!
Hoping he's a first class footballer though!
I've always had a thing for 'Badboys' RockDJ
(My 73 yr old mum loves Bradley too. I'm slightly worried by that. )
He said in the paper he was far too old to last the pace. I hope he's rubbish as I'm supporting the ROTW Team (Although Robbie can score a couple of course )
If someone wants to go but doesn't have tickets.......yet!!!!
A friend of mine has 2 tickets for sale...
They are Lower North Stand, Block N1405, Row DD seats 208 and 209 seats
The Official Site has been updated with some more details re Soccer Aid.
Robbie's Team now includes Paul Gasgoigne , Les Ferdinand and John Barnes (87).
The Rest of the World now has Zola, Dunga and Desailly.
I know which side my money's on....
I have to agree with your smilies in your post Jupiter, how did Robbie end up with Gasgoigne at "The Match" last year, he had an open goal with no other players around him and missed every shot LOL..in the end his mate BillyBigBelly, sorry cannot remember his name..but its something like that, had to come on and do it for him LOL.
You can buy tickets for a warm up match between Robbie's England side v England Legends taking place on Tuesday 23rd May at Craven Cottage Fullham on the run up to the Old Trafford event on the Saturday.
Tickets for that are 15.00 plus booking fee.

sorry, but billybigbelly is hilarious!! Thanks for that Susie!
(wasn't it Jimmy 5 Bellies?)
Max looked rather lovely playing in a charity match on Channel 5 tonight. And so did Nigel Harman for that matter!
Billy big belly
I saw a bit of that match tonight RockDJ. Did I see Sean Bean or just someone who looked like him?
Robbie's Team ain't shaping up very well is it? And Robbie himself will need to stop for a fag every 5 mins....
I confess I wasn't watching the match properly and didn't see all of it! I definitely didn't spot Sean Bean, wish I had but there's a good chance he could have played - he's another one who's obsessed with the game lol! Hulio was watching so she could give us a full report I'm sure!
ROBBIE WILLIAMS plays football at Westway Sports Centre training for his soccer aid match later this month.

SHOWBIZ EXCLUSIVE: HE'S ROOBSTER
SHOWBIZ EXCLUSIVE Crock star Robbie copies Wayne with an oxygen chamber to get fit for game
By Ben Todd Showbusiness Editor
CROCKED Robbie Williams wants to follow in the footsteps of Wayne Rooney and use an oxygen chamber to heal an injury - so HE can play football for England.
The pop superstar is due to captain the England side for Sport Aid, a charity football match against a Rest Of The World team on May 27. He then heads out on the mammoth four-month 26-date European leg of his world tour.
But 32-year-old Robbie has been struggling to recover from a knee injury which could keep him out of the match and seriously hinder his on-stage dancing for the tour, which begins in Dublin on June 9. As a result, aides for the singer asked Rooney's advice regarding the £6,000 oxygen tank the Manchester United and England star has begun using in his desperate battle to get fit for the World Cup.
Now Robbie hopes to follow suit and use a similar tank twice daily as he battles to get into peak condition for his two summer ambitions.
A close friend of Robbie revealed: "He has been struggling with the left knee injury, and despite a number of different treatments it's not responding as he would have liked.
"Robbie is desperate to be fully fit for the football match and knows he has to be in 100 per cent peak condition for the tour.
"So when he heard about Wayne's oxygen tank, he decided it was the best way forward for him as well and got in touch with Wayne's management.
"He often picks up niggling injuries on tour - so he even hopes to take it with him as he travels around Europe.
"But it's a huge, cumbersome machine and I don't think he realises how difficult it will be to move from gig to gig."
Robbie - a devoted fan and shareholder of Division One side Port Vale - injured his knee last month when he fell down a flight of stairs after a sell-out concert at Dubai's Nad Al Sheba stadium.
He is believed to have tried intensive physiotherapy, Redknapp, acupuncture and even yoga in a bid to get fit. But the injury has not been responding well to treatment.
Wayne Rooney picked up his injury in a tackle with Chelsea defender Paolo Ferreira eight days ago.
He is now using the oxygen tank to speed up the healing process of the broken fourth metatarsal in his right foot.
A source revealed: "Robbie has been made well aware how incredible these machines can be for injuries.
"Like everyone, he's hoping the tank can help Wayne get fit for the World Cup. But he's desperate to be fit himself for Soccer Aid, and his gruelling tour."
The match between Robbie's England side and a Rest Of The World XI led by Gordon Ramsay, a Scot, is set to be a 67,000 sell-out at Man Utd's Old Trafford stadium. The game will be refereed by Ant and Dec and is to be aired live on ITV1. All proceeds will go to charity UNICEF.
Chef Gordon, 39, is certain his Rest Of The World team - which includes Gianfranco Zola, Marcel Desailly and Maradona - will win the game.
But Robbie's side will include former England stars Jamie Redknapp, Paul Gascoigne and David Seaman.
After the game, the singer will embark on the European leg of his Close Encounters tour which will see him play in front of 2.7million people over four months.
It was due to culminate with five nights from September 14 to September 19 at Wembley Stadium, but those dates have been shifted to Milton Keynes Bowl because of Wembley's building delays.
Robbie, who nowadays lives in Los Angeles, will also play two nights at Glasgow's Hampden Park and two nights at Roundhay Park in Leeds.

These coming weeks are going to be an absolute Robfest on TV. I'll be stuck in front of the telly for hours.
Can't wait
But i want to hear some news about Sin Sin Sin promo cause if he's in the country surely he can pop into TOTP and do it
He was asked in that radio interview today when his new single was coming out. He didn't have a clue. Had to ask his 'people'- then just said 'soon'. I despair of that boy sometimes.
I got the feeling he couldn't care less about SSS. All he wanted to talk about was the football ( oh and 3-2-1 and Bullseye on Challenge TV).
Well he's always been like that a bit. I think he does it on purrpose. I recall on a few occasion when asked what he was performing, he had to ask a member of the band
Saw an advert on tv last night for soccer aid, with a pic of the robbie shirt! Am so glad we will be able to see it for those who havent got tickets to watch.
There is a HUGE hoarding of Robbie's shirt that I can see from my bedroom window
Why do they always put these things in front of your bedroom window
because I am a good girl .
....hmmm just remembering the GH poster
I know you are
..but I am not allowed to leave the curtains open "just to look at that bloody man's bloody football bloody shirt"
(you DON'T want to know his opinion of 'that man' daring to step on the hallowed Old Trafford turf)
LOOOOOOL.....

Robbie ready for celebrity soccer tournament
9.09AM, Sun May 14 2006
Robbie Williams has reportedly overcome a knee injury which threatened to jeopardise his place in a charity football tournament.
The singer had feared that he may have to withdraw from Soccer Aid when he apparently fell and hurt his knee after a gig last month.
Robbie, who is expected to lead the celebrity England team, has undergone physio treatment and taken part in a spot of yoga to get himself fit for the tournament on May 27.
The likes of Jamie Redknapp, Paul Gascoigne and David Seaman are also expected to take part in Soccer Aid.
Williams, 32, is well-known for his love of soccer, having recently become a shareholder in Port Vale.
Thanks jupiter - that is good news.
ICR - are you allowed to go to hallowed Old Trafford to see 'that man' there inside the shirt then ?
He's going with her...of course
Not??????????

Well....I think it might be more fun for you without him
You do seem to be well placed for those big posters don't you ICR
Must keep a look out for some down here in the South - I was lucky enough to have a GH poster on the school run

By DEREK ROBINS
Sun Online
ROBBIE WILLIAMS has admitted he is worried about his fitness less than two weeks before he captains an England side of celebs and ex-footballers for Soccer Aid.
Robbie, 32, who loves fags and chocolate, said: “The only thing I’m worried about is the fitness. That does scare me, as I do not want to embarrass myself.
“It’s a really big night – Boy’s Own stuff. A dream come true.”
Robbie added that he’s particularly worried about the super fitness of fiery chef Gordon Ramsay, captain of the rest of the World team, which he will take on at Old Trafford on May 27.
He told The Manchester Evening News: “I watched the London Marathon on TV and the first person I saw was Gordon finishing.
“He was still jogging on the spot saying: ‘It was great this year. I think I could have done it a bit faster.’ I thought: ‘Oh my God!’ I’m just going to have to hit him.
“At the time I was still in bed at 4pm. I had an Easter egg in one hand, a Silk Cut in the other, a can of Coca Cola on the bedside and my ash tray full of cigs.”
Oh bless him, gotta love his sense of humour haven't you..can you imagine a pop scene without him in it. I can't, he would be so missed for these type of comments.
If you can't beat him then hit him..LOL. thats my man.
Here are some pic with thanks to fan supreme
SHOOTING STARS
Ant and Dec are your hosts as Robbie Williams captains England against Gordon Ramsay’s Rest of the World team in a celebrity football match in aid of UNICEF
The World Cup in Germany beckons ever nearer and with injuries throwing manager Sven-Goran Eriksson’s plans in disarray, he needs all the help he can get.
So don’t be surprised to see a spy in the stands as an England side managed by Euro 96 boss Terry Venables take on Rudd Gullit’s Rest of the World X1 on Saturday 27 May at Old Trafford.
The squads are being captained by entertainer extraordinaire Robbie Williams And celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, and each contains 11 celebrities and 5 World Cup greats.
Nightly programmes, presented by Ant and Dec, will follow them as their respective managers try to knock them into shape for the big match, which is being staged in aid of UNICEF.
“It’s going to be great-Robbie versus Ramsay,” says Ant.
“They’ll both want to win, especially Ramsay. He seems like a fit bloke.
Every time you watch Kitchen Nightmares he’s always taking his top off isn’t he?”
Although the game is for charity, Dec expects the players to take it pretty seriously.
“We watched The Match on Sky One, and you think it’s going to be all friendly with the celebrities and legends, but it gets quite heated out on the pitch”,
With that in mind, neither is too disappointed not to be pulling on their boots themselves,
“We didn’t get the call from Robbie”, explains Ant, “but I wouldn’t like to humiliate myself out their anyway”. “In any case”, adds Dec “you get more money if you present, wheras if you play it all goes to UNICEF.

Robbie Williams' football ambition
u.tv
Pop star Robbie Williams has revealed he would rather be a footballer than a singer.
The Stoke-on-Trent-born musician admits choosing the wrong career on a television chat show.
Williams appears with ex-England coach Terry Venables on the Friday Night With Jonathan Ross programme to talk about their forthcoming involvement in Soccer Aid.
Port Vale fan Robbie captains the England team, which is managed by Venables.
Williams said: "I love football, I`m so passionate about it, I`d rather be a footballer than a singer."
But he admitted being unable to match the fitness of his opposing captain, Gordon Ramsay, who leads the Rest of the World team, managed by former Chelsea and Newcastle United boss Ruud Gullit.
"I was shamed into starting the training," the singer said.
"I`d been out on a late one, switched the TV on to see Gordon Ramsay finishing the marathon. He`s really competitive, a great fella, I want to be him."
Venables, on the other hand, talked about his ambitions to be a singer.
He told the host: "I`d like to have been a singer, I sang with Joe Loss (but) they`d say, stick to the football."
Getting so excited about this.
First programme Monday night is that correct?
Yep
I also can't wait
Signed up too, although I already subscribe and support UNICEF. Thanks Rock DJ
Note to self, get some video tapes in, there is an awful lot of recording to do next week. LOL. wasn't he just gorgeous on Jonathon Ross..handsome or what.
Do you think he knows that he has so much sex appeal.
He must know Susie - he simply oozes sex appeal!
Funny how 3 of my fav men support Unicef - Robbie, Beckham and Ewan
I had to make a trip to Woolworths today Susie to buy more blank tapes for Soccer Aid lol! I'm starting to wish I had a dvd recorder now - so much more compact to store!
Well not so many places do tapes anymore, goodness knows what I will do with my Rob library when they not longer sell VCR's. I suppose I could have them transferred to DVD.
Pic of Rob training for soccer aid with thanks to TRWS
I have a DVD recorder.
Unfortunately I aint got a clue how to work the damn thing.
I won't ask you to help if I ever get one then lol!
The itv site is up and running - lots of info & pics!
http://www.itv.com/page.asp?partid=5819
Thanks Rock Dj
I am really looking forward to it now
I have two DVD recoreders due to impulse buying of one that was a 'mangers special' with a freeview tuner when particulalry annoyed with Sky earlier this year Does mean I can do DVD to DVD transfers though (technologically illiterate - can't the the hang of these computer things for that).
They will both be put to good use over the next week though except I've just realised my blank DVD stock is running low
Lots of great pictures appearing already This time next week I will be in Manchester, and it will all be over - can't believe it has come round so soon.
I noticed in my TV mag today that as well as the ITV1 progs there's also extra progs on ITV2.

Robbie's red card for cigs
ROBBIE Williams has given up smoking as he is so desperate to win Soccer Aid.
The star has been a 60-a-day man since he was a teenager.
Despite being teetotal and quitting drugs, the wicked weed is one habit he has not been able to kick.
But the prospect of his celeb England team taking on Gordon Ramsay’s Rest of the World squad for charity has finally made Robbie chuck away the cigs for good.
Corrie star Bradley Walsh, who is on Rob’s team, revealed: “We are calling him ‘No Cigs Robbie’.
“He’s taking this very, very seriously and will do anything it takes to win.
“And we will win. Gordon couldn’t even beat us at swearing, never mind footie.”
Ex-Take That star Robbie, 32, once confessed he would like to quit smoking — but was too scared of piling on the pounds.
He said: “The thing is, I’m a fat bloke inside this body and the minute I stop smoking, I’ll get even bigger.
“It looks like I can’t give up until my fame runs out. Then I can be a healthy Robbie Nobody.”
Meanwhile, there was drama at training yesterday when Gordon Ramsay was rushed to hospital after injuring his leg.
The fiery Scottish chef will have treatment for the next few days in a bid to get him back into shape.
Gordon told TV Biz: “I hit the ball and my right leg twisted. I was in the most incredible pain.
“A scan revealed a muscle tear. I will absolutely not give up and am determined to lead the team out at Old Trafford.
“If I wasn’t to play in this massive game against England I’d never forgive myself.”

Glad you had a good time
Hey Scott! Hows u!?
Yes it was that good, and just makes me so excited I cant wait for Saturday to come now! Cant quite believe it yet, but I'm sure it'll all sink in on the day!
I'm great hulio. How about you?
You are very lucky to be goint on saturday
I am very jelous
I really enjoyed the show (and not just because Robbie was on it ). It was really funny when they filmed them trying to train. Bryan McFadden telling his Teammate in all seriousness how the ROTW Team would win because they were all so fit, while puffing away on a fag.
Please no Robbie injuries before Saturday!
I have to say though that the ROTW looks a stronger Team.
I can't believe how lucky I am and with such good company too, its gonna be an awesome day!!
I'm hoping to take a camera (does any one know if that'll be allowed?) So may be able to show u some pics when I get back!
I cant see them not allowing cameras Hulio.
Did you enter the Robbie private jet competition?
I think you'll find I'll be winning the private jet competition!
Tonight's programme was fantastic - so funny!! The Rest of the World may look like they have the better team, but England will rise to the challenge on Saturday!
Along with hulio, I'm stupidly excited about being there!!
I sincerely hope non of you are over 25 stone
You wont be anywhere near that private jet RockDJ. Remember his stipulation. Under 25 ( I myself have booked in for some Botox tomorrow )
No actually I think you'll find I'll be winning it!!!
I think you summed it up perfectly in a text u sent me RockDJ...definitely spontaneously combusting already!!!!
I could make you all feel really bad and say that I do in fact weigh around 25 stone!
Robbie knows he needs a more mature woman really, so I'm sure he won't mind me winning!
Good luck everyone
Oh, by the way. Sara Cox said on ITV2 that 70,000 of the 75,000 tix have already been sold. Its going to be a definite sell-out by the weekend!
RockDJ! LOL! You're not 25 anymore, but you're certainly not 25 stone!! Altho if we were he'd be more likely to notice us!!
He'd definitely notice when I sat on him lol!
I enjoyed it too, very entertaining, and not just because Robbie is on it either.
I watch alot of football anyway. I loved it when Venables was having a bit of argy bargy with Rudd with Robbie sat in the middle.
I really hope it comes off for Robbie, he will be gutted if it doesn't.
I can breath a sigh of relief knowing that they have sold so many tickets. Great Robbie the public are responding! Just mention his name LOL.
A great show tonight, I got sooooooooo excited and Rob looked his usual gorgeous self. Rock DJ, he sat like that again
But why didn't they release 'A Place to Crash' this week. You would have thought that would be perfect seeming they are playing it all this week for Soccer Aid as the theme tune. geez, what is up with EMI
I think England are on for one big hiding, Robbie has defo got the weaker team geez, an unfair advantage before we even start.
some of the world's best players. Dunga, Zola Ginola and we have Gascoigne and Ferdinand, I say bring in Teddy Sherringham.
I thought the same Jackie. Release SSS and promote APTC all week
Idiots.
Well Rob said he does'nt want this to promote him, it is for charity afterall
But i can't say i'm suprised, i mean it is EMI we're talking about here
Don't worry Jackie - I did notice how he was sitting!
I think I'm going to be unbearable to live with by the end of the week - this is all so exciting!
How was he sitting? What have I missed?
I did notice his orangeness has faded significantly since JR on Friday. Unless he's been bleached....
WILLIAMS ACCUSES UK PRESS OF BIGOTRY
British singer ROBBIE WILLIAMS refused to take part in a charity soccer match against Germany - because the UK press revel in slamming the European country. The ANGELS hitmaker is captaining the England team at this month's (MAY06) Soccer Aid match to benefit the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), for which he is ambassador.
But he has categorically refused to be a part of any match which might incite the traditional berating of Germany and parody their involvement in the World Wars.
He says, "I couldn't play in a game England versus Germany, because the press in England can't control themselves when it comes to bigotry. And I happen to love Germany. "And I sell a lot of records there, being honest - all three of those things. And I wouldn't want to be part of anything that would darken their door."
Williams will play the charity game in Manchester, England on 27 May (06) with a team comprised of celebrities representing the rest of the world, captained by chef GORDON RAMSAY.

I'm out to settle a score
Ian Wylie
Manchester Evening News
ROBBIE Williams is hoping to settle an old score when he steps out on to the pitch at Old Trafford next weekend.
Soccer Aid (ITV1, tonight, 9pm) kicks off five days of coverage before the England v The Rest of the World match on Saturday night.
Hosted by Ant and Dec, it's all in aid of children's charity Unicef and its partners, with teams made up of celebrities and ex-players.
The project was thought up by Robbie and his pal Jonathan Wilkes. But Robbie will have someone else in mind when he steps out in Manchester as the England captain.
"There's this guy who used to be the best player in our team when I was about 17. When I joined Take That, he said, `It's a good job you got into Take That, mate, cos you're ******* **** at football!'
"Now, that'll be in my head on the night. But it'll be like, `Well, yeah, I might have been, but I'll be the only person captaining England, walking out of the tunnel at Old Trafford.
"Then, the next thing is to not make myself look an idiot and prove him right."
He adds: "There are real footballers in the England team, like Tony Adams and Paul Gascoigne, and they're really the captains.
"I'm just the captain to make sense of the TV show. But I'm just going to try my best at left-back and try not to mess it up for the team."
Robbie hopes to stay on the field for the full 90 minutes.
"I played the other night and it felt like I'd been on the pitch for an hour and a half. When they told me it had been just 22 minutes, I wanted to cry."
He hopes as many M.E.N. readers as possible will come along to the charity match. "Everybody's going to take it really seriously," he promises. "There might even be fights. And you get the chance to watch a load of celebrities make fools of themselves."
Terry Venables, manager of the England side, says his mix of celebrities and six former players has bonded well during training.
Both England and the Rest of the World team, captained by Gordon Ramsay, will be based in London until the end of the week.
"Late Friday night we go to Manchester for the live game at Old Trafford on Saturday at 7pm," says Terry, "and that is something that everyone's looking forward to.
"The motivation these boys have got for the match is just amazing.
"There's not one bad guy in the group and the way they've mixed in together has been terrific. They're just good mates and the entertainers are asking the ex-players questions about what they should be doing. It's going to be a good night."
Tickets for the Soccer Aid match are available from Ticketmaster: 0870 162 6883 or the Manchester United Box Office: 0870 442 1999.
Wasn't that just great last night! Can't wait to watch again tonight.
I think the bit at the beginning where they were all introducing themselves, robbie should of said instead for himself: International pop star, worlds most sexiest man! ( I could go on but will be here all day)
Was so good to hear a little bit of robbie music as the theme tune aswell
Tell us all about it because we can't see it

Success for Robbie's England squad
Tuesday May 23.
Robbie Williams's charity football team had a promising start to their training for Soccer Aid when they beat an England Legends team by a single goal.
The team was preparing for Saturday's charity game against Diego Maradona and a Rest of the World XI to be played in front of a sell-out crowd at Old Trafford.
The England side, managed by former England coach Terry Venables and captained by Williams, won 1-0 against a team of former England internationals at Fulham's Craven Cottage.
The Legends team included former Newcastle striker Peter Beardsley, Southampton hero Matthew Le Tissier and ex-Arsenal winger Paul Merson among other England internationals.
But Williams's England side scored the game's single goal after 80 minutes when Shameless actor Dean Lennox-Kelly passed to former England international Jamie Redknapp who scored.
Venables said of the goal: "Dean made a great pass to set up Jamie Redknapp's goal. He did really well."
Maradona's late inclusion in the Rest of the World side is likely to add spice to the fixture.
The former Argentina international scored a controversial "Hand of God" goal against England in the 1986 World Cup.
Tickets for the event, which will be broadcast live on ITV1 at 7pm, have sold out, despite the increased capacity afforded by mixing fans.
Paul Gascoigne, John Barnes, Tony Adams, David Seaman and Bryan Robson are expected to join the England side on Saturday. The Rest of the World side will be captained by Gordon Ramsay and managed by former Dutch international and ex-Chelsea manager Ruud Gullit.
Jupiter, are'nt you watching it?
Yeah, it's on. Watching on portable telly.
Robbie and Johnathan's interview at the end of the highlights show was really funny. They're like 2 kids in a candy shop. Robbie is deffo more excited about his footie than his music at present.
He (it) was on Dutch tv last night!!!
Boulevard I think....could have been Shownieuws or somthing though.....not sure
It was more about "our" Ruud Gullit then about Robbie but I saw him
o then i didn't miss a thing then
Well....he did look very yummie....as always
I am back, I went to Craven Cottage yesterday and watched the practice match and I really enjoyed it and it didn't rain.
Here are a few piccies I took.
that's what it thought but he always lokks yummie yummie
I believe it's on the telly again
Thanks for the pix Susie
It looks like you were really close Did you run onto the pitch to take them?
Susie must have been the referee. She was obviously standing right on the pitch. Or was she a streaker? Or does she have a camera with the best telephoto lens ever produced?
I can assure you it was a pleasure taking the pictures.
As if I'd streak LOL. I was right in the front though, I could touch the grass, and I did have a zoom, abeit a normal one. The bloke behind did have one that was huge. Much more pro than mine would be.
To be fair Susie if you were streaking none of the players seem to be paying you much attention.
And you didn't take a pic of THAT????????????????
Not even for Twinky
Why is he sitting eating his dinner with that daft checked hat on?
Oh Robbie. The amusement value you provide.

See some images from the reception
He has brought together World Cup football legends and celebrities to take part in a special match between an "England" and "Rest of the World" team.
The game takes place this Saturday at Old Trafford.
More on Soccer Aid and UNICEF (opens in new window)
Speaking alongside South African president Thabo Mbeki, the PM told those gathered at the reception that the work UNICEF do is "absolutely remarkable" and wished both teams well in the final.
UNICEF exists to protect the world's children whenever and wherever they are at risk.
They focus on health, education and child protection.

HOT SCOTS STEAL THE SHOW IN WARM-UP
Gary Ralston
SCOTLAND rolled back the years yesterday to prove we've still got what it takes at international level.
We were invited to take part in a game against the Rest of the World ahead of Saturday's Socceraid event at Old Trafford.
Two teams made up of pros and celebrities will battle it out in front of 70,000 fans, with proceeds going to UNICEF.
We provided warm-up opposition for Ruud Gullit's side. They were the Rest of the World - we were out of this world as we thumped them 7-3.
Does anyone have Pele's phone number because we are now keen to fix up a game against his Brazil side that won the World Cup in 1970?
Take a bow Andy Goram, Tom Boyd, Colin Hendry, Derek Whyte, Darren Jackson, Gary McAllister, Paul Lambert, Stuart McCall, Billy McKinlay and Gordon Durie.
Along with yours truly we raced into a 6-1 half-time lead before taking our foot off the gas in the second half.
The game was shown on ITV last night and Jukebox Durie was revelling in his hat-trick, while The Goalie showed he's still top drawer with a couple of fantastic stops.
Standouts for the Rest of the World included Gianfranco Zola but I fancy England for the big one on Saturday at Manchester United's ground.
I'll be co-commentating with Clive Tyldesley and so won't be on hand to help the Rest of the World but a former Rangers team-mate hopes to be fit.
I remember Gordon Ramsay from his time at Ibrox and he's desperate to make the match, although he's nursing a knock.
I'll be sharpening my tongue over the next 48 hours as I prepare to hand out the pelters but I've got to admit some of these celebrities are not bad.
Players such as GMTV host Ben Shephard, snooker player Ronnie O'Sullivan and actor Dean Lennox Kelly are decent operators.
Also, hats off to Robbie Williams - the boy's got a decent left peg at full-back and he's not afraid to put in a tackle.
The Rest of the World will have to make a couple of dramatic changes if they are to upset England - calling up 11 Scots might not be a bad start.
As told to Gary Ralston
Skippers Ready For OT Battle
Soccer Aid captains Robbie Williams and Gordon Ramsay are relishing Saturday's Old Trafford battle between England and the Rest of the World, with both insisting their team can win.
Robbie is skippering the England side which features a host of international legends including Gazza, David Seaman and Tony Adams, while Gordon is leading the Rest of the World team which includes world stars Gianfranco Zola, Peter Schmeichel and Maradona.
Both sides have been training hard for the past week in preparation for Saturday's match which is a 75,000 sell-out.
"I can quite imagine how it will feel to step out at Old Trafford," explained Robbie in his column for the Soccer Aid matchday programme.
"I’ll probably feel a heap of different emotions when I’m stood in the tunnel and I think I’ll be the most nervous out of everyone involved.
"We have some unbelievable legends in our side, as well as some very accomplished celebrities who all look very composed on the ball. The training sessions have gone really well and I think we’ve got a great chance of winning," he added.
Rest of the World skipper Ramsay is equally confident his side can score victory on the night and believes his team's legends could prove to be the difference.
"In Zola, Schmeichel, Matthaus, Desailly, Ginola and Dunga we have a group of players who have been extremely successful in their careers and who are hungry to be successful again," wrote the chef in his programme column.
"Our lads have done really well in training over the last two weeks and there’s an excellent team spirit within the camp.
"We’re certainly going to be up against a very talented England team but I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think we could win," he added.
Pick up your copy of the official matchday programme on Saturday at the game. Turnstiles open at 5.15pm.

Tony Blair is used to his guests wearing smart suits not track suits and trainers when they visit Downing Street. But the British prime minister was happy to make an exception on Wednesday afternoon when he welcomed Robbie Williams and a large group of his soccer-mad friends to Number 11.
The 32-year-old star paid a visit to the politician's residence to publicise his Soccer Aid charity match, which will take place this weekend at Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium. Proudly sporting training gear with a three lions crest emblazoned across the breast, the singer told his host of his commitment to combating Aids in Africa.
Saturday's match, which features a roll-call of British celebs, will see the chart-topper leading his England side out against Scottish chef Gordon Ramsay's rest of the world team. And with former professionals like John Barnes, Paul Gascoigne, David Seaman and Tony Adams in his squad, Robbie is hoping to make light work of the opposition. The chart-topper also counts actor Damian Lewis, singer David Gray and TV presenters Ben Shephard, Jamie Theakston and Angus Deaton among his team-mates.
Gordon also has a few aces in his pack, though, with French stars David Ginola and Marcel Desailly joining Italian legend Gianfranco Zola in the line-up. Former Westlife singer Brian McFadden will bring the luck of the Irish to the squad, while Olympic athlete Ben Johnson and Formula One driver Eddie Irvine are sure to set a fast pace.
Streaking ... I hadn't thought of that!!!
Saves me wondering what to wear on Saturday ........
(don't think my pics will be quite as good!!!)
Not more streaking!? I got dragged into that at about page 2 of this thread!! LOL!
Wow, I'm insanely, stupidly, ridiculously excited!! I can't wait for Saturday

Touts cash in on Soccer Aid
Adam Moss
INTERNET touts are asking £500 each for £15 tickets for tomorrow's star-studded charity football match at Old Trafford.
Organisers say they are helpless to stop people cashing in on the 75,000 sell-out Soccer Aid event.
The two teams - captained by singer Robbie Williams and chef Gordon Ramsay - aim to raise money for Unicef to help children round the world.
Organisers of the big match, to be screened on TV, fear hundreds more tickets will flood on to the black market in the next 24 hours because extensive coverage of the build-up has led to a massive rise in interest.
But they are powerless to do anything about the profiteers, because the sale of tickets on internet auction sites is not covered by laws banning ticket touting at football matches.
Unscrupulous
A Soccer Aid spokesman said the auction website involved had refused to withdraw the tickets.
He appealed to people not to buy the tickets from unscrupulous touts, and called on fans to watch the live ITV broadcast instead.
ITV sports spokesman James MacLeod said: "The entire 75,000-ticket allocation for the match is sold out. The ITV coverage has raised interest. The problem now is the tickets starting to appear for sale on the internet. At first it was just one or two, going for about £150. But that number is increasing by the hour and some are going for up to £500 each.
"It is a shame people are making a profit on the back of a charity match. We think it completely goes against the spirit of the whole event. These tickets cost just £15 for adults and £5 for children."
A spokesman for the auction website said: "We only allow legal items to be sold on our website. The resale of tickets for this event is not illegal."
Last year, the same site did remove tickets for the London Live 8 event in aid of Africa after organiser Bob Geldof branded their resale "sick profiteering".
Has Diego arrived yet by the way?
There si a few Robbie Soccer Aid video's on YouTube but couldn't find any that are worth seeing.
Well (as expected ) Robbie is in the starting line up for the big match tomorrow. He is playing at left back. He will have to stop Diego Maradona .
The show was funny tonight.
I missed it but have it recorded
have fun tomorow night with soccer aud everyone

Why is it that celebrities are so happy to raise money for good causes but infinitely less willing to hand any over themselves? Tonight at Old Trafford two teams of famous faces, plus someone called Alessandro Nivola, who must be good at football because he can't possibly qualify by any other means, will set out to prove their devotion to the children of the world by convincing other people to give them some cash.
So the famous people get to play a game of football with famous players at a famous venue in front of a bumper crowd while others with less money than themselves offer some of it to Unicef. Frankly it is an unusual definition of charity. And the canny celebrities know that, once the game is over, they are but a couple of telethons and one humiliating-but-hilarious novelty song on Comic Relief away from an MBE for services to showy and extremely public displays of generosity.
Admittedly the celebrities must give up their time, which in the case of Alessandro Nivola might not be such a problem but for Robbie Williams or Gordon Ramsay might represent something of a hardship. The footballers, who have probably played in similar venues and more prestigious matches, have little obvious motivation other than altruism, which must be something of a novelty for them. But most of us would be far more impressed if they were all to join the public in flexing their chequebooks rather than their withering musculatures.
Jade Goody's marathon attempt represented something of a low point in celebrity charitable athletic endeavours, one that in a more rational world might even have ended the distressing pastime forever. Yet, despite not finishing the course or doing any training, she managed to raise some money. You might think she could have done that just as well without debasing a marvellous occasion with her lacklustre efforts and slack-jawed smile, though as she explained this week rather endearingly: "I do my charity work to erase wareness." Which you must admit she does rather well.
People, Goody excepted, generally become famous for their excellence in a particular field - something like singing, acting or having extremely large breasts. But away from their chosen speciality celebrities sag quicker than a menopausal glamour model.
Versatility might have got Owen Hargreaves into a couple of World Cup squads but it is a commodity that we don't often actually need. Fundraising is something that, as the London Marathon proves, the British people do exceptionally well even without the aid of celebrities. Singing, as countless karaoke evenings across the land prove, is not. Every moment Robbie Williams spends on the Old Trafford pitch is a moment which he might have better spent performing, though I know people who would disagree with that.
It seems uncharitable to criticise people for fundraising but surely we must refine our definition of the term. Madonna spends part of each show on her new tour suspended from a giant disco-effect crucifix and has attempted to calm the resulting storm of predictable religious outrage by explaining that she is simply encouraging audience members to give money to Aids charities.
As the ageing popstrel has clearly worked out, if you're doing something for charity you are morally exempt from criticism. But as she charges up to £160 per ticket it seems unlikely that many of her fans will have much money left to waste on frivolous activities such as alleviating the suffering of millions of less fortunate souls around the world.
Inevitably there is some self-interest behind my plea for singers not to stray into the world of sport for, if they do, it can be only a matter of time before a kind of reverse osmosis pushes sportsmen into singing. After a brief and miserable dalliance between music and sport several years ago we have come to accept that sportsmen and microphones should mix only in post-match interviews. For the sake of the nation's sanity, that is how it must stay. Williams once named an album after a football chant, Sing When You're Winning. As far as I'm concerned, we'll win only when he's singing.
sport.stuff@guardian.co.uk
What a horrible, nasty article. The author has no idea how much (or little) any particular celebrity gives to charity. Wonder what he himself has done with his life to help the underpriviledged of the world? Sod all I'll wager.......
Not a nice man.
Countdown to Soccer Aid
Adam Moss
TEAM CAPTAINS: Gordon Ramsay and Robbie Williams SECURITY surrounding the weekend's huge charity Soccer Aid match in Manchester will be unprecedented.
A formidable ring of steel will follow the stars of Saturday's celebrity football match - both at the Lowry Hotel in Salford, where they are all staying, and at Old Trafford, where the match is being played in front of a sell-out 75,000 crowd.
So expect assorted man-mountains and a variety of heavy-looking entourages to be patrolling around the streets later tonight when the celebrities fly into Manchester from their rendezvous with Prime Minister Tony Blair at 10 Downing Street.
Advertisement your story continues below
At the head of the pack is captain of the England team, Robbie Williams, whose superstar status commands him the ultimate in protection.
The rest of the world team have their own megastar in the team, too - Argentinian Diego Maradona.
The World Cup winning ex-footballer arrives to lend his legendary skills (but hopefully not his Hand of God) to proceedings this evening.
Living legend
In his home country, where he is considered a living legend, he's always followed by a large entourage of minders, who'll no doubt be flexing their muscles over here, too.
A spokesman for the event, broadcast live on ITV1 at 7pm tomorrow, tells me the ring of steel is necessary because of the "players" involved in the game on both sides - including TV celebs and stars from other sports.
He says: "There will be very high visible security for the event both at the Lowry and the ground because of the calibre of the stars involved in the game.
"We can't really discuss our security arrangements for obvious reasons but, it is going to be tight."
Tickets are sold out for the match. Please call the Man Utd Box Office: 0870 442 1999 or click here to check for returns.

Yes Sparkle. He was very brown again (verging on the orange in fact ). And I thought Jonathan looked a similar unnatural shade.
Think the boys have been sharing a can of spray tan.
God only knows what colour they'll be by kick-off tonight. I may need to adjust the brightness control on my telly.
Twinkle honey, it's soon going to be Soccer Aid time.

Thanks so much Scotty
I also really enjoyed Maradonna and he scored a goal which was good to see.
YEEEEY for Jonny
A tale of two halves: the first
England dominated a first half which saw Pierre Luigi Colina go toe-to-toe with Gordon Ramsay.
Ben Shephard has just tackled Diego Maradona and fed a lovely cross-field ball to Gazza.” Yes, Clive Tilsly couldn’t believe he was saying it, and we couldn’t really believe that he was saying it either.
But this was the match we’ve all been waiting for, and the first half turned out to be the stuff that dreams are made of. Well, for England fans, anyway.
Terry’s boys started the match at a pace that left The Rest of the World standing. Three times in the first ten minutes Peter Schmeichel was forced into action as Les Ferdinand and Damian Lewis ran the likes of Lothar Mattheus and Marcel Desailly ragged.
And with the England team camped near-permanently in The Rest of the World's half, it seemed that it was only a matter of time before the damn broke.
It was.
Ironically, England’s first goal came as The Rest of the World made their first meaningful sortie into the England half.
With The Rest of the World backtracking following David Seaman's intervention, Gazza crossed exquisitely to Les Ferdinand and the rest was history. Towering high above a floundering Craig Doyle, the big striker powered home a trademark header and gave England a valuable lead.
And it wasn’t long until Jonny Wilkes doubled their advantage with a goal of Premiership quality. Getting around the back of Craig Doyle, Wilkes cut inside Gareth Thomas before lifting the ball expertly over Peter Schmeichel.
Old Trafford erupted, Gascoigne planted a smacker on his lips, and Jonny's mates realised that they’d never hear the end of it.
Much like Pierre Luigi Colina never really heard the end of Gordon’s penalty appeal. The two squared up late on in the half with Ramsay adamant that the ref should have pointed to the spot after he had been upended. Colina didn’t. And as the two eyeballed each other, Gordon seemed to realise that he’d met his match.
After just 45 minutes, it seems that Ruud's boys might have met their match too.
England elated at victory
England managed to hold on to victory as a resurgant Rest of the World pushed them all the way.
They came from near and far. The young, the old, and the slightly infirm. And that was just the players.
For the fans, 72,000 people packed into Old Trafford to witness an historic occasion: the final of Soccer Aid. And in the end, the match lived up to all the hype.
In a first half dominated by England, we saw moments of brilliance from England legends and celebrities alike. Les Ferdinand opened the scoring for Terry’s boys on thirteen minutes, and Jonny Wilkes – your man of the match – doubled the lead with a moment of individual brilliance.
But England only dominated one half.
Because as Ruud sent out a team containing five World legends, Terry smelt a rat. The rules stated only four players allowed and the England boys weren’t going to let Ruud get away with it. After a few minutes of confusion and consternation, the problem was resolved with Ruud replacing Ginola on the pitch.
And Gullit made all the difference.
Just as England dominated the first half, Ruud’s boys made their presence felt in the second. Maradona survived plenty of hefty tackles (1986 and all that) before floating a ball into the box which left David Gray quite befuddled. Lifting his hand into the air, Gray gave Colina little choice but to award a penalty, and Diego converted accordingly.
Yet try as they might, The Rest of the World couldn’t conjure up an equalising goal. Zola missed a golden opportunity to score a second as Theakston floundered outside the box, but the little Italian’s shot went woefully wide.
And as the time ticked on, you sensed it would be Robbie’s night.
Old Trafford erupted when Colina called time on an entertaining fixture, and the people went ballistic as Robbie lifted the trophy.
“It’s been amazing and I’d like to thank everybody,” Williams whinnied after the final whistle. “This is definitely going to happen again – maybe at Gordon’s place?”
Gordon, too, was gracious in defeat. “It was a close game,” Ramsay raved. “The guys have done a fantastic job.
“And it’s not often you can pass the captain’s band to Maradona.”
But that was the nature of the night. It was a unique occasion which brought together the best in the world of entertainment and the best in world football for the best of causes. England may have won the match, but thanks to you guys UNICEF were the big winners on the night.
I can't wait to see it

A report from the BBC News Website
England stars in Soccer Aid win
An England celebrity side captained by singer Robbie Williams has beaten a World XI 2-1 in the Soccer Aid charity football match at Old Trafford.
Both teams fielded seven celebrities and four former footballers, including Diego Maradona for the world side.
Les Ferdinand and TV presenter Jonathan Wilkes scored for England. Maradona replied with a penalty after singer David Gray handballed.
The crowd of 72,000 helped raise an estimated £6m for the Unicef charity.
Robbie Williams had a quiet but composed game for the England side, which was managed by former England coach Terry Venables and featured former England internationals John Barnes, Tony Adams, David Seaman and Bryan Robson, alongside TV presenters Jamie Theakston, Angus Deayton and Ben Shepherd.
Chef Gordon Ramsay, himself a former Rangers player, captained the rest-of-the-world side that included four former World Cup winners - Maradona, France's Marcel Desailly, Brazil's Dunga and Germany's Lothar Matthaus.
The side's non-professionals included Scottish TV presenter Craig Doyle, Irish singer Bryan McFadden, Canadian athlete Ben Johnson and former Number 10 spin doctor Alastair Campbell, who, rather fittingly, played down the left wing.
Maradona, who led Argentina to win the 1986 World Cup, scoring his famous "Hand of God" goal against England along the way, suffered some good-natured booing from the crowd, as well as a number of crunching challenges from Coronation Street actor Bradley Walsh.
Members of the two squads met Prime Minister Tony Blair in Downing Street this week.

Robbie's England Victorious In Soccer Aid Clash
England 2
Ferdinand (14), Wilkes (20)
Rest of the World 1
Maradona (75, pen)
Robbie Williams’ England side overcame a Rest of the World XI which included Diego Maradona to seal a 2-1 victory in the inaugural Soccer Aid match at Old Trafford on Saturday night.
Not even a late penalty from arguably the world’s greatest ever player could prevent Terry Venables’ side from lifting the Cup in front of nearly 72,000 fans who had packed into the stadium.
England began the brighter of the two teams and were unlucky not to take the lead in the opening stages. Their first effort on goal came from the lively Les Ferdinand who, after battling his way past Marcel Desailly, saw his fiercely struck shot hit the side netting after just three minutes. The former QPR forward went close again seconds later when his strike with the outside of his right foot was brilliantly turned away by United goalkeeping legend Peter Schmeichel.
Terry Venables’ side continued to press and almost went ahead through an unlikely source in the 10th minute. A mix-up in the Rest of the World (ROW) defence between Craig Doyle and Gordon Ramsay allowed Tony Adams, who had stayed forward from an earlier free-kick to steal in. Thankfully for the ROW, Schmeichel was in tip-top form and was on hand to block Adams’ shot.
Adams’ defensive partner Ben Shephard was the next England player to go close after a 60-yard run out of defence. A great one-two with Gazza put him clear only for a combination of Michael Greco and Gareth Thomas to thwart in him tracks.
Schmeichel made another good block minutes later, this time with his feet, after a neat move involving Ferdinand, Adams and Bradley Walsh who had the final shot.
The breakthrough finally arrived on 14 minutes when Ferdinand was rewarded for his hard-working endeavours upfront. Having successfully defended a corner, England keeper David Seaman bowled the ball out to Dean Lennox Kelly who fired a great pass out to Gazza on the right wing. His pinpoint cross to the far post allowed Ferdinand to plant a diving header past the helpless Schmeichel.
England made it two six minutes later after a sublime run and finish from Jonny Wilkes. Gazza was once again the orchestrater after slotting a fine pass to Wilkes down the left wing. Wilkes, a former trainee with Everton, held off Doyle before cutting inside and chipping brilliantly over the advancing Schmeichel.
The Rest of the World rarely threatened in the opening period; a weak header from Gordon Ramsay was the thing they had to show for their efforts, although Diego Maradona, who was making his first appearance at Old Trafford since the famous 1984 European Cup Winners’ Cup quarter-final clash between United and Barcelona, did show glimpses of his former self with some neat touches and a great array of passing.
Despite their 2-0 lead, Venables was keen for his England side to keep the pressure on after the break and made his feelings clear during his televised half-time team-talk.
A well-worked free-kick between Maradona and substitute Gianfrano Zola ten minutes after the restart brought about the best chance of the game for the Rest of the World side, but Zola could only head over from six yards out. The former Chelsea hero tried his luck again, this time with an Pele/Beckham-esque effort from the half-way line which floated just wide of substitute keeper Jamie Theakston’s post.
At the other end, Wilkes went close with a powerful left-footed strike as the 72,000-strong crowd conducted a series of Mexican waves around the stadium.
Zola continued to work his magic for the Rest of the World and after skipping past three England defenders was unlucky to see his shot well saved by Theakston, diving to his right in the 72nd minute.
Three minutes later, however, the ROW pulled a goal back through Maradona after adeliberate hand-ball from England right-back David Gray allowed the Argentine to fire home from the penalty spot.
The Rest of the World went looking for the equaliser and they should have had it through Zola two minutes from time, but the little Italian chipped over an open goal after great work from ROW manager Ruud Gullit.
That proved to be the last of the goalmouth action as Robbie and Co. held out for a deserved victory - England fans everywhere will be hoping for more of the same come next month in Germany.

England SoccerAid stars beat the world
Manchester Evening News
CHAMP: Capt. Robbie.AN England celebrity football side had fans dreaming of World Cup glory tonight after they triumphed over a Rest of the World XI in the Soccer Aid charity match.
Goals from Les Ferdinand and Jonathan Wilkes gave the England team a 2-0 advantage at half time and despite a converted penalty in the second period the home side held on for the win.
A record crowd at Manchester United's Old Trafford ground cheered England captain Robbie Williams, playing at left back, and found boos and jeers in equal measure for old nemesis Diego Maradona.
Advertisement your story continues below
Good possession led to two early goals for England. Former Tottenham striker Ferdinand scored a header from close range from a cross by Paul Gascoigne after a sweeping England counter attack in the 14th minute.
Side-stepped
Then Wilkes broke down the line and found an incisive Gazza through ball at his feet.
He side-stepped Welsh rugby's Gareth Thomas and beat Peter Schmeichel with a deft flick.
The Rest of the World side struggled to make chances, with Ramsay working hard for little reward.
The TV chef proved his notorious temper is not confined to the kitchen when he was hacked heading for goal.
He then went eyeball to eyeball with referee Pierluigi Collina for judging the foul outside the box, but the Italian referee has lost none of his resolve and stood firm.
Williams, at left back, could do little wrong for the crowd, but confined himself to attentive defensive duties, rarely venturing forward.
Gazza, conversely, was happy to showboat. Looking trim and eager to please, he dispossessed Maradona then performed a 180 degree spin to compound his opponent's misery.
Half-time substitutions freshened up the sides for the second half, and gave older legs a chance to rest, while bringing on more old legs in the form of Angus Deayton for England.
Gianfranco Zola brought real intent to the Rest of the World attack, and Gullit looked lethal on the left.
Tactics
England resorted to traditional tactics against quality opposition and started kicking Zola when he got the ball.
The diminutive former Italy and Chelsea player responded with an audacious lob from 60 yards that flashed narrowly wide.
He then walked the ball past flailing England tackles only to see his shot well saved by Jamie Theakston.
Later he chipped over when facing an open goal as Theakston over-committed.
The Rest of the World side were awarded a penalty for handball with 15 minutes to go and Maradona side-footed it home, sending Theakston the wrong way.
When the game deteriorated to Sunday League standard - unkind observers pointed to beer guts to match - the record 71,962 crowd livened things up with a Mexican wave.
Williams eventually left the pitch to a standing ovation, his side secure in victory.
Williams later lifted the Soccer Aid trophy before leading his team on a celebratory tour of the pitch.
Applause
He described the game as "amazing" and applauded when pal Wilkes was named Man of the Match.
Fan Paul Cherry, 30, from Catford, south-east London, said he hoped the real England team were as successful in the World Cup.
"The England team played really well, and it was great to see Maradona," he said.
"He played really well. The crowd gave him a pretty hostile reception but what with the 1986 World Cup what would you expect?"
"Hopefully it will be this easy in Germany this summer," he added.
His companion, Emma Tozzi, 28, admitted she was not only interested in the football part of the game.
"Robbie had a great reception from the girls," she said.
"He looked really good, and he can play football."
Thanks Tania
A great read
ROBBIE'S ENGLAND BOYS ARE WINNERS
Sunday Mirror
ROBBIE Williams offered a glimmer of World Cup glory last night after his celebrity England team scored a 2-1 victory over a Rest of the Worldside in the Soccer Aid charity match.
Goals from former Spurs star Les Ferdinand and Robbie's TV presenter pal Jonathan Wilkes put England 2-0 up at half time and, despite a converted penalty by Argentine legend Diego Maradona in the second half, the home side held on. The Rest of the World struggled, with Scots chef Gordon Ramsay going eyeball-to-eyeball with Italian referee Pierluigi Collina in one incident.
When the game deteriorated to Sunday League standard, the record 71,962 Old Trafford crowd livened things up with a Mexican wave.
Afterwards, ex-Take That star Williams led his team - who included TV presenters Jamie Theakston and Angus Deayton and singer David Gray alongside former professional footballers - on a victory lap of the pitch and applauded when Wilkes was named Man of the Match.
Fan Paul Cherry, 30, from Catford, South-East London, said: "Hopefully it will be this easy in Germany this summer."

anyone want to see my crappy phone pics?
yes I was that close
Robbie didn't look confident but did look like he was having a good time ......
He was left back and so didn't have much to do in the first half but did encourage chanting in the crowd.
He also did some lovely stretches ...... hamming it up just for us.
in the warm up they played LMEY .... we just had one hand in the air .... and "boing bong ..anouncement" and they turned music off!!!!!!
Thanks for the photos ICR.
You were indeed very close to our Hero. I'm jealous.
Great pics ICR!!!!!
I didn't get those...only the one where Bry was waving
Do you know what that horrible man Ian Hyland said in the News of the Screws today?
He said that while he really enjoyed Soccer Aid, Robbie was clearly only doing it to boost his current 'underperforming' album.
I so hate the press in this country.

SOCCER JOY FOR CELEBS

Les Ferdinand and Robbie's pal Jonathan Wilkes scored for England. Diego Maradona converted a penalty for the Rest of the World.

Williams later lifted the Soccer Aid trophy before leading his team on a celebratory tour of the pitch.

.... did I mention I went to Soccer Aid??
I was really near the front .... and really near to Robbie
Hi everyone! Just to let you know that me & Hulio survived our trip up North lol! Had the most amazing time - lots of fun and lots of laughs!
The atmosphere at Old Trafford was fantastic - most people obviously were there for Robbie and the love and support shown to him was incredible. We weren't as near as you ICR - we were near the corner down by David Seaman's goal. So we had a great view of him twiddling his thumbs, but sadly Robbie didn't get down our end much!
Fantastic match though and I wouldn't have missed seeing Robbie lift that trophy for anything. He was so happy and so proud, bless him!
Thanks hulio for some wonderful navigating and a great weekend. KFC drivethrough will never be the same again!
i can sniff my name out a thousand miles away! LOL! hope you liked your picture of me waving to you twinky! and me and icr together we were amazingly close to each other it was a brilliant weekend
thoroughly enjoyed it all, best of all was meeting loads of people i've chatted to online for years and having a great laugh (icr, rockdj, hulio, holly, NMP and may to name a few!) although i was secretly gutted i couldn't stay to eat at kfc - i looooove twisters
Hi Bry, welcome to BJ
Glad you had a great time at Soccer Aid
i did promise myself i wouldn't join any more forums until my exams are over...but i couldn't resist
FOOTY AID IS PIPPED BY DOCTOR
Who just pipped the Soccer Aid celebrity match in Saturday night's big TV ratings battle.
The BBC1 Timelord, played by David Tennant, averaged 6.3 million viewers - 200,000 more than ITV1's charity game.
But peak ratings showed 7.8million watched Robbie Williams' England side of celebs and ex-pros beat the Rest of the World - 1.1million more than the Doctor.
Ant and Dec's threeand- a-quarter hour Soccer Aid show also beat other BBC1 rivals, the National Lottery and Casualty.
ITV1 said: "It did well to hold its viewers over that long period."
A BBC insider said: "We're over the moon. It shows Doctor Who can exterminate all opposition."
BBC1's Strictly Dance Fever dominated the other Saturday ratings
Stars shine at Soccer Aid
Roland Hancock
A JOB WELL DONE: STARS of stage, screen and sport brought a touch of magic to Old Trafford as they raised millions for charity at the Soccer Aid football international match.
A sell-out crowd of 72,000 raised more than £500,000 on the turnstiles alone for the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), which was increased to more than £2m by the live TV audience.
Saturday night's match, which mixed teams of celebrities and ex-professional footballers, pitted an all-England squad against the "Rest of the World", including Diego Maradona and Gianfranco Zola.
Joining England team captain Robbie Williams was Manchester Evening News competition winner Lakeisha Bradbury, eight, from Knutsford, who won the chance to be England's mascot.
She said: "It was really great, Robbie called me cute and gorgeous, but I was so excited I totally forgot to get his autograph."
But as world-renowned referee Pierluigi Collina blew the whistle for the kick-off, all thought of charity on the field evaporated, as the "friendly" got under way. Though on paper the Rest of the World team was a sure bet, with World Cup winners Dunga and Marcel Desailly in their ranks, England soon proved that they could dominate with a smooth, passing game.
By half time England were 2-0 up after a powerful header in the box from Les Ferdinand and a dream goal from the left wing by TV presenter Jonathan Wilkes, straight past Peter Schmeichel.
It was hard to tell the celebrities from the professionals, but ageing players Gordon Ramsay and Alastair Campbell, both playing for the Rest of the World, were brought off at half time.
The second half was lit up by Zola's audacious chip over keeper Jamie Theakston's head from behind the half way line, which hit the post, and Maradona's easy penalty after a blatant hand-ball in the area from David Gray.
But the football was secondary to the money raised. UNICEF ambassador Robbie and his friend Jonathan Wilkes organised the match to raise money for the charity, which supports children around the world.
Final score: 2-1 to England.

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I loved the pics...thanks
very very very nice pics scott
We are back too..like everyone has said it was fantastic, no words to describe it all.
It is something I will not forget in a long time and I just wish I could re-live it all over again. Like Rock DJ said the crowds loved him, there were banners galore, and it was a good game. Just seeing Maradona play here was special too.
We were also very lucky with our seats, right down the front and dead opposite the halfway circle, so got good views of the game wherever the ball was in play, and of course, very close to Robbie while he was warming up. Some picces, hope you like them.
Awww thanks for the photos.
I think Robbie really looks like he could be a real footballer. Except when he runs. He has a really funny run.
I always think that about Keanu Reeves as well. Very handsome, Until he runs. Then I just
I know what you mean Jupiter, he has a hollow back when he runs, I just laugh when I run.
Scotty those picture of Robbie with the little boy are so lovely
He was so cute with the little girl mascot too - spending time to kick the ball with her
Had a great time too, only had eyes for the ball!! LOL I jest really, had eyes on one man for most of the time. It was a great day out and it was thanks to Robbie and Jonny with their idea gave 72,000 people a great day out over the Bank Holiday and gave something different to watch on TV for the many millions tuning in.
It was fun reading all the banners too, I am one very proud Robbie fan.

Never tried to throw it on stage though....there was this BIG security man inbetween Robbie and me and I didn't want him to catch it and get the wrong idea
What kind of pressie? What did you buy him?

Sam Allardyce and Claudio Ranieri are characters in their own right.....
I am keeping my fingers crossed for Leicester today , I really want them to win
It will be a brilliant moment if they do. Fingers crossed for them.
Right down to the wire but exciting , I hope they win just ti see the celebration & look on peoples faces ..
Well done to them.
Always lovely to see a team win against the run of money in sport.
It's good for football overall, gives other teams the belief that it is possible
They are giving out a 1000 free curries in a curry house in Leicester
Ranieri reminds me of big Jack Charlton back in the day when he managed the Republic of Ireland football team , unorthodox maybe but could get unbelievable results
& what about Vardy

This should take them over the 20m mark.
Have a great time Laura , send loads of & Mr Williams way
have fun Laura
I had a brilliant night. It was a really good match. Lots of the England players were playing well. Mark Wright, Marvin Humes, Olly.
Jap Stam and Ronaldinho were amazing.
Then the last ten minutes Robbie came on. It was the icing on the cake. The cheer took the roof off.
He looked wonderful. Got a lovely hug off Jonny at the end and raised 5.3m in the process.
I hope he's very very proud of himself. He should be.
Forgot to say. I haven't listened yet to any of the clips or recordings but something about this SA, the lead up to it and his playing the last ten minutes made me think it might be Robbie's last.
I know Olly isn't a UNICEF ambassador but I wonder if Robbie would pass over the reins to Olly?
Just a feeling I've got.

Robbie Williams will lead an England XI against Usain Bolt's Rest of the World team on June 10 at Old Trafford
It will be 'bigger and better' than ever before, according to the organisers.
And Soccer Aid already has two huge names confirmed for this year's charity football extravaganza at Old Trafford.
Pop superstar Robbie Williams will return to lead England and he'll be up against legendary Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.
Bolt, an avid Manchester United fan, will make his eagerly anticipated football debut after he retired from Athletics last summer at the World Championships in London.
The 31-year-old will hope to inspire the Rest of the World side to glory as they seek revenge on England, who won the last meeting 3-2 two years ago.
But who will play alongside them?
Here is everything we know about the big match so far...
Who are the confirmed celebrities playing?
So, far just Robbie Williams (England) and Usain Bolt (Rest of the World).
The likes of Will Ferrell, Wood Harrelson, Mike Myers have played before. Not to mention footballing royalty such as Diego Maradona, Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldinho.
And Soccer Aid organisers are promising this years line-up will be bigger and better than ever

I think the roof will come off Old Trafford when Usain Bolt walks out and that'll just be me.
Do you think there is room on the pitch for both their egos.
What a class act they'll be. Lots of fun I think.
Look forward to this making lots of money for a great cause.
Edit: when I bought my tickets today at midday the guy on the phone said the lines had been rammed so I don't think they'll be any problem selling this out. The top tickets are 50 now which is a fair bit more than last time so they'll make loads on match day plus all the sponsorship. ITV are supporting again and I'm guessing Dermot O'Leary is presenting again as he was tweeting earlier. All good.
I thought Zidane was my favourite so far & of course Alan Shearer in 'that towel' , any idea where those pics are Laura

Are the tickets expensive this time around Laura , I would hate if they out priced themselves especially when it comes to families because it is a real family occasion

Max Beesley is my number one on the wish list and now they've met up again who knows?
He's a huge Manchester United fan too and a really good footballer.
Wayne Rooney is still playing but as soon as he retires I think he would play for Soccer Aid in the future.
He is always tweeting about it and I think he's friends with RW. He's got one of his Brits for a start!
I am so excited to see Mo Farah on that pitch!
This could be the best SoccerAid line up of them all
