With the season over, now silly season begins.

All confirmed transfers, rumours and near missed to be discussed in here.

Speculate ahoy!

West Ham will sign midfielder Havard Nordtevit from Gladbach on a free transfer.

Sky Sports linking West Ham to just about every player going so far laugh.gif

Posted by: bigwiglaf 18th May 2016, 08:26 PM

Wouldn't surprise me if some/all of the big money clubs tried to pinch 2/3 of the Leicester City squad over the summer, along with Harry Kane from Tottenham, and one of the teams needing a manager tried to nick Eddie Howe from Bournemouth...

Posted by: Silas 18th May 2016, 09:07 PM

We shall see on Saturday just how silly Man U's silly season is going to be. To fire LVG or not to fire LVG that is the question that will still be getting asked this time next year ahead of the final match of his contract

Liverpool have finally signed a goalkeeper!

Big rumours on Ibra moving to Man Utd. Expect a few Jorge Mendes clients to be linked with them all summer.

Posted by: richie 25th May 2016, 07:10 AM

If Simon Mignolet is now going to be available then I'd love to see Sunderland bring him back in. That said, Vito Mannone was back in top form at the end of the season, but can he keep it up?

Or perhaps Aberdeen could sign Danny Ward permanently?

Posted by: Jimmy Jam 26th May 2016, 08:05 PM

I'm expecting Ibra to join Man Utd, watching SPN today they said he would only join MU from the PL, and I can just see him their under Mourinho, so I expect good things for them this year.

Unfortunately not predicting much excitement for Liverpool in terms of big names, though Klopp is great at finding unknown talents, but hoping Gotze will consider coming to Anfield wub.gif

He's a cert for Man Utd. I think he'll do really well. Thought part of me is hoping he will flop laugh.gif Can't see it though!

It would be great to see Zlatan finally play in the Premier League and for Man Utd.

Posted by: Steve201 27th May 2016, 09:16 AM

Ibra is 34 now he will be a real big signing but I think he will be like Schwinnie last year - a big name, not necessarily a big player. But we shall see. Did anyone ever read his biography?

Posted by: Steve201 27th May 2016, 09:17 AM

On the liverpool front great to see a new keeper in from Mainz hope he will be a commanding presence for us - looks a real aryan and he looks like he loves himself!!

Man City about to sign Gudongan.

Xhaka looking very certain to join Arsenal from Gladbach for £35m.

Posted by: Hazza Chapman 1st June 2016, 08:37 PM

If Mourinho sells Juan Mata it will be nothing short of moronic. He was Chelsea's best player before he took over Chelsea for the 2nd time and then he shipped him off to Man Utd. He's been a key player for us and if Mourinho gets rid of him again it will prove that he has a personal problem with Juan.

He's too small and doesn't track back enough most likely. I agree he's a good player, I'd call him a luxury player (similar to Firminho at Liverpool), on his day he's quality, but can go missing often and then flash up with something out of nothing. Great squad option. Thing is, if you sell him, it will be for peanuts.

Reported that Arsenal have triggered Vardy's release clause! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Mack 3rd June 2016, 07:35 PM

Could be £20m.

Don't leave Leicester City, Jamie Vardy please.

Posted by: Dobbo 3rd June 2016, 09:15 PM

Zlatan to United is a done deal it seems.

Will be great to see him in the prem even if for just one year, especially for United biggrin.gif

Posted by: Silas 3rd June 2016, 10:50 PM

Very exciting. Getting things done in a time efficient manner with a new manager would be a first for Woodward. Actual progress on that front!

Must be a financial decision. Money means more to him than team unity and possibly winning the league again.

He has more of a chance of winning the league again with Arsenal. Leicester were a once in a blue moon. I'd be surprised if we saw something like that again in the next 25 years.

I see the logic in Arsenal signing him, and for £20m it's not a bad price. He gets a massive payrise as well, no brainer really for Vardy.

Posted by: Dobbo 4th June 2016, 11:52 AM

Vardy is less effective in a team that dominates possession. He would get higher wages but play far less football, mind you that never stopped the likes of Scott Sinclair or Fabian Delph.

He'll start for Arsenal. Welbeck is injured until next year and Giroud just blows hot and cold. I agree it might be interesting how he plays in a team that likes to dominate the ball, but I think he will start lots of games for them.

Posted by: Silas 4th June 2016, 12:55 PM

Vardy seems to flourish in poor teams (see Leicester and England) so he should do well at Arsenal magic.gif

Posted by: Steve201 4th June 2016, 08:36 PM

20m is expensive enough considering he's 29 and relies on pace a lot.

£20m is the new £10m though with all this extra money floating about.

Yep, plus of course the obligatory English player mark up.

I really think this summer could be the year we see the 100M mark be broken, just trying to work out who & for what team!

I think it will happen soon, but not this year. That figure would take a Messi/Neymar/Muller sale. I can't see any of those players leaving, and there's no-one youngish that's posting Ronaldo/Bale/Suarez numbers in the top leagues at the moment.

Posted by: bigwiglaf 4th June 2016, 11:48 PM

So much me rooting for Jaime Vardy as the Leicester City forward any longer....here's hoping there won't be a massive defection from Leicester City's squad now they've won the Premier League....

Posted by: OutstandingMixer 5th June 2016, 02:25 AM

I don't think the 'tippy tappy' bullshit Arsenal play will suit Vardy at all. Unless Arsenal are planning to 'mix up' their style of play next season. laugh.gif

Posted by: Soy Adrián 5th June 2016, 12:16 PM

Arsenal aren't anywhere near that one-dimensional. Sanchez seemed to fit in fine and, like Vardy, his pace is his biggest weapon.

Posted by: Martyn 6th June 2016, 08:22 PM

Vardy was apparently supposed to make his choice before he got on the plane to France today. But "couldn't make the decision". Do we think he is gonna want more money from either Leicester or Arsenal? I assume his England team mates will be telling him to go to Arsenal where he can be on the bench for a big name club. I would think considering he signed a three year deal with Leicester in February he would stay there and try and retain the title.

Posted by: Soy Adrián 6th June 2016, 09:56 PM

He'll have a good idea how many of his Leicester teammates are likely to be there next season, and it'll probably have a big influence on his decision. He won't get a chance like this again, it'd be very telling of his character if he wasn't sorely tempted.

Posted by: Hazza Chapman 7th June 2016, 12:23 AM

I'm indifferent about Mane. He blows hot and cold with his form, which is a worry. BUT he scores goals and adds pace, which is something that we need.

Was gutted Liverpool didn't signy Micky when we were in for him 3 years ago. He's a really good player, took him a while to get going at Dortmund.

It won't be much better at Everton though when Lukaku and Stones go in the summer!

Southampton got a great deal, they would be mad not to sell for £34m. That said, price is irrelevant these days. Jury is still out on him for me, but Klopp really wanted him which is good enough for me.

Zlatan to United is official

Posted by: Hazza Chapman 30th June 2016, 04:05 PM

I think everyone knew that Zlatan would come to Old Trafford, whenever the media asked him about Man Utd he always had a smile that gave everything away despite trying to keep it a secret. Hopefully he will do well for us like he did for PSG.

I really hope that whatever we do in the transfer market this summer that we keep hold of Juan Mata, he is possibly our most creative player and I think he will still add a lot to our team.

Posted by: Mack 30th June 2016, 06:51 PM

£25m for Benteke is way too little going at the current market. He will score 10-15 goals. He was poor last season but that's because the team needs to be set up around him. He's a good player, but just not suited for Liverpool unless he's an impact sub.

Not quite, Ed Woodward lost us him partially because he is incompetent and partially because despite Man United knowing LVG was a walking corpse at that point they went out of their way not to undermine him and repeat the Moyes debacle.

Ah well, it happens in Football. Just gotta roll with it.

Realistically though, he went for £30m last summer and had a largely crap season. Maybe his true market value might be a little higher than 25 but you're not going to get it. There are other strikers on the market so you can't ask for too much - City won't be demanding that much for Bony, for instance.

I know but he has 4 years on his contract to go as well. We don't need to sell and while we most likely sell, I'll be shocked if we don't receive £30m for him. When Troy Deeney is going for similar amounts, you can see why we will hold out. The Premier League has well and truly evolved in to silly season. Expect all clubs will do the same for players, so many cat and mouse games this summer I suspect.

£15m as well, brilliant deal! And if he shows his potential we have a buy-back clause and sell-on fee. For once we have negotiated quite well.

I've seen a lot of people say it's a bad deal for Liverpool as he's a good player - my advice is.. clearly these people did not watch any Liverpool games last season!!!!

Posted by: Steve201 15th July 2016, 06:04 PM

I like him a lot and am disappointed he has left but happy to see he has a buy back clause etc!

Could be that Chelsea buy Kante for £28m possibly. Why would he want to leave when there is Champions League football this season?

Sky sources understand Chelsea have agreed a fee of around £32m for Leicester City's French international N'Golo Kante.

It's known Leicester offered Kante an improved four-year contract before the Euros, but the midfielder has now told the club he wants to move to Stamford Bridge.

It's thought Kante will have a medical over the weekend, before meeting up with Chelsea on their pre-season training camp in Austria, where he will discuss personal terms.

Looks like Kante moving to Chelsea will be happening. Moving from the Premier League champions to a mid-table side. laugh.gif

Confirmed that Kante has moved to Chelsea for £30m for his words 'the biggest club in Europe' who lost to Rapid Vienna 2-0 with Terry, Matic, Willan, and Ivanovic not forgetting Mr Costa.

Greed from Kante there who so easily have been playing in the Champions League this season instead he'll be watching on the telly.

Good for his long term career prospects. May only have to wait a year until he gets to play in the Champions League. No brainer really.

Posted by: Silas 16th July 2016, 09:23 PM

There's no way that move was motivated by anything other than money.

Chelsea aren't even the biggest club in London.

Like most career moves!

Mhkyatarian (sp?) and Ibrahimovic have turned down the Champions League to play in the Europa League. Joel Matip has turned down European football in general to play for Liverpool. It's swings and roundabouts, and money is always involved!

Feel a bit for the Leicester fans as it's kinda a kick in the teeth, but if we were being paid 100k a year and someone offered us the same job for triple our wages we'd all be made not to take it laugh.gif

Posted by: Silas 16th July 2016, 10:30 PM

At least it's still Europe! We'd have no chance of landing them without Mourinho, that's the real draw this year for us. Plus the fact that we're Manchester United helps.

I totally get it, I'd do exactly the same. There's f*** all I wouldn't do for £300k a week!!!

Posted by: Hazza Chapman 17th July 2016, 12:27 AM

This is a sign that the miracle of last season wont happen again this time for Leicester which is quite sad tbh. Would rather a team like them win it again if Man Utd fail to do so.

Still think the reason the deal is holding is, is Pogba and Co are waiting for Real Madrid to come on.

It's a ridiculous deal, not one player is worth than amount of money. And while I think Pogba is a great player, I wouldn't put him in that top level bracket yet. Admittedly you're buying potential, but there's gonna be some massive pressure on him to hit the ground running.

Posted by: Silas 22nd July 2016, 05:36 PM

Yeah I'm not thrilled we're going to drop £100m and I honesty don't think he's worth anywhere near that.

Supposedly Jose has 2 other targets for that same position so I actually wouldn't care if it fell through. I suspect part of the reason they're pushing so hard is that it's be a big signing and after the last three years Woodward is under a lot of pressure to prove he's capable.

As it stands were 75% done our essential business 6 weeks from deadline day which is a remarkable improvement.

Posted by: Rooney 25th July 2016, 11:01 PM

I think he's a brilliant player. He was really unlucky with injuries. He definitely didn't score enough, but I don't know many players who can turn on the ball as well as he can in the Premier League. He's not fast/strong/tall enough to be in the way Klopp wants his midfield to be. He will do well at Stoke hopefully.

Posted by: Sabrina. 26th July 2016, 07:42 AM

Too small, not strong enough and doesn't score enough goals. Unfortunately for him, that means he was never really going to work in a Klopp midfield

With all these sales, we could end up making a profit this window

Benteke still to go and probably only a LB to come in

Yep I know, it's gotten to the point now where I wouldn't be that disappointed if nothing happened. Of course it'd be a great signing & the type of player we most definitely need but the money & the nature of the transfer just points in the direction of a huge underachievement...

It's completely gone that way. Outside of Juventus, everyone else is skint!

Pretty sure both City and Juventus themselves paid in excess (considerably) of the £25m reported when they signed Tevez. And that's just off the top of my head. It's just part of the game. As disgusting as it is, it's just as much part of the modern game as Adidas transfer campaigns, YouTube unveilings or free kick foam.

I do sort of want to burn down OT at that hashtag like but at least this saga is finally coming to an end and FINALLY we make a marque signing which can only be good for Woodward and the club's status. Though I'm still not entirely convinced he's worth the insane about of € we're paying, we do need a player just like him in the midfield.

Posted by: Rooney 7th August 2016, 05:12 PM

#Pogback biggrin.gif Very expensive..

Good signing for them, but for me, I don't think it's that great a signing. Good midfielder, but I find him to be way way too inconsistent. I think he will flourish eventually (and Real Madrid will swoop him in in 2/3 seasons time.. you can quote me!) but there's going to be so much pressure on him to begin with.

West Ham are conducting the mist bizzare transfers ever. Guess that's what happens when your owner gobs off to the media constantly!

Also Swansea have just accepted a £12m bid from Everton for Ashley Williams.

Could it be the last of the big-money signings with Stones in the transfer window? I think not.

Posted by: Silas 10th August 2016, 01:09 AM

So £87.5m

Posted by: Soy Adrián 10th August 2016, 09:02 AM

20% of Everton's profit. Pretty standard with younger players I think.

Still think Stones is probably worth half a Pogba, particularly under Guardiola. Mangala may be out of the door after being left out of the squad for the Champions League playoff - with Kompany, Otamendi, Stones, Denayer and the youngsters they should have enough cover without him and they'll make at least half their money back in this market.

Posted by: Rooney 10th August 2016, 11:17 PM

What a complete waste of money Mangala was. I agree though, I really like Stones. In the right set up he could be awesome, he's so comfortable with the balk at his feet and bringing it in to play from the back. The problem is his defending is average. Unlike at Everton though, if when he makes a mistake, I don't think he will be thrown to the cleaners as much.

I'm really interested to see about Pogba now. If he is played as a #10 I think he will be awesome, but from what I think, he will be played in a midfield 2. Now I've only seen France and some Juve games, but he's average at best in that position. It completely mitigates his strengths.

Posted by: Silas 11th August 2016, 09:12 AM

It depends how long Jose humours Rooney who really should be sent to the glue factory. He's not consistent or fast enough to have a spot in the starting XI over Pogba or Mkhitaryan or Mata.

Posted by: Silas 11th August 2016, 09:22 AM

Posted by: Soy Adrián 11th August 2016, 01:50 PM

Pogba plays best in a 4-3-3, which would also suit most of United's front players bar Rooney and Mata.

Rumour is that Jones is wanted by Stoke on Loan. I will pay them ALL THE MONEY to take him permanently.

Posted by: Cassidy 22nd August 2016, 09:29 PM

Blackett is a good move. Anyone who's followed his development with us couldn't possibly make a case for him to stay. CBJ had a few moments last year so will be interested to see how that one pans out in terms of him returning to us. Phil Jones and Rojo both need to go ideally but we'll be left criminally low on defenders if the Fonte deal doesn't get over the line.

Posted by: Cassidy 22nd August 2016, 09:33 PM

I must say though, and I thought the same when Bruce was sniffing round at Hull, a loan deal for a 24 year old with the injury record of a fucking gingerbread man is a strange one for us. Can't be much interest in the lad if we're resorting to that.

Posted by: Silas 22nd August 2016, 09:57 PM

Yeah but to be fair Jones and Rojo are so useless that if we start running low we'd be better switching to three at the back or dropping Carrick in or dragging up Axel from the u23's that resorting to either of them.

A loan would at least give him a chance to show he's not entirely useless. You're right though, he's insanely fragile especially for a 24 yr old.

Posted by: Cassidy 22nd August 2016, 11:05 PM

Axel came out with a horror for the first goal v Southampton for the U23s tonight. On paper it sounds nice but he's still a long way from ready to fit in a potential championship winning side.

I guess maybe I'm a bit cynical when it comes to Jones. If he has a successful spell then it could be good for Hull/Stoke/whoever and Jones himself, just can't see it benefitting us. Then again I've had my mind made up for the past two years that he's never going to make it at United.

In a surprising twist of fate Duncan Castles is probably your go-to man for United transfer updates now. He's Mourinho's main media outlet so the bulk of breaking news trickles down through his account first and most of what he reports at least has a shred of something to it.

Bony is the complete antithesis of what Manchester City have been trying to create for themselves over the past 5 seasons in terms of both creative imagery and style of play. Granted he's a proven Premier League goalscorer but £30m quoted for a striker who won't get a sniff with Aguero/Jovetic/Dzeko fit is stupider than any Scott Sinclair or Javi Garcia deal they've come up with in the past. I'm all for enhancing your chances for a title battle as much as possible if funds are available but seriously. Wilfried Bony. Manchester City. Fucking hell.

As someone who had that ^ to say when Bony moved to City, I reckon he could do a job for West Ham.

Sad to see him leave but that sort of money is hard to turn down. Of course I would have preferred he signed for a Premiership club rather than a Championship club.

Is he really that good? The general reception on Twitter is a bit WTF.

An odd one. On his day he's very good, got pace and skill to beat players. His finishing is actually hit and miss despite scoring 20 goals last season. His decision making isn't the best either (shoots when he should pass). Although he's 26, he came to the game late, so he seems a bit raw at times. He has the potential, just needs a bit of work.

Jack Wilshere up for loan if anyone fancies a 5 ft 3, injury prone pitbull.

He would be a good catch for a team looking for a smoker who falls into wheelie bins on nights out and hates Tottenham laugh.gif

I can see Wilshere possibly going to either Palace or Bournemouth.

Loan move to Torino is done for Joe Hart.

So far:

Wilshere moves to Bournemouth on loan
Luiz returns to Chelsea
Bony moves to Stoke on loan
Chelsea confirm £23 million signing of Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina

Luiz to Chelsea is a proper head scratcher.

If you had told me 4-5 years ago that Jack Wilshere would move to Bournemouth on loan... unsure.gif

Posted by: Mack 31st August 2016, 07:08 PM

Confirmed that Wilshere has moved to Bournemouth.

Sideshow Bob has returned to Chelsea laugh.gif, I never would have guessed that he would return to Stamford Bridge one day!

Everton looks like they've won the race to sign Sissoko for a purposed club-record of £30m from Newcastle United
Nice have signed Mario Balotelli on a free transfer

Looks as though Chelsea will be the real winners of Deadline Day. Looking forward to see what deals go through in the next few hours, though.

Posted by: Mack 31st August 2016, 09:06 PM

Tottenham and Everton now for Sissoko. The final hour.

Posted by: Mack 31st August 2016, 09:31 PM

Looking more likely that Sissoko will move to Tottenham for £30m.

Posted by: mdh 31st August 2016, 09:33 PM

Sissoko isn't worth 30 million. No way.

Jack Wilshere will be an interesting test for Eddie Howe. If he can get Wilshere playing as well as we know he can play, that can only enhance his long-term prospects for the England job.

That's it until January. Over a billion has been spent in the Premier League, it will only get higher next year.

Posted by: Mack 31st August 2016, 10:06 PM

It is an intriguing move for Wilshere to Bournemouth which will be interesting to see.
Sissoko is definitely not worth £30m at all but this because of the money from television deals with BT & Sky.

Slimani to Leicester City for £25.5m.

You know it's deadline day when all of the presenters on Sky Sports News wear yellow laugh.gif

Posted by: Ðøßßø 1st September 2016, 05:50 PM

That's a ludicrous price for Sissoko, had 180 mins of good football at the Euros but was borderline anomymous for the entirety of last season...

And don't even get me started on Luiz rotf.gif

Posted by: Rooney 1st September 2016, 08:08 PM

Some absolutely bizarre deadline day moves. I must admit £30m for Sissoko is crazy. On his day he is brilliant, but he plays when he wants to play, so it's strange that Spurs have paid the money they have done and entirely done away with their transfer strategy. I can only assume they panicked and thought the squad wasn't big enough to compete on 4 fronts.

Some of the deals completed towards the end of the window make some of the earlier deals look like absolute bargins!
