Just a little something, some people (including me) always say "if the contest was held with just these songs, this country would win". Of course many things depends on the stage performance which is impossible to imagine but we can compare things such as:
  • Song quality
  • Level of performer
  • Other competing songs
  • Country reputation for good (or not) staging etc.

So let's do that right now, and if your prediction ever changes as more songs become available and/or get revamped - say so in here! It may be interesting to see how often such a prediction changes as the songs are revealed rather than just afterwards.

In their current guise, if the 8 countries that have revealed songs so far formed the entirety of the contest I think the winner would be...
Belarus

A fairly obvious choice at the moment as it is the only act that isn't a solo female and one of only 2 songs that isn't a ballad or mid-tempo. Therefore it would easily standout and pick up the votes. I think coming closest to beating Belarus in the current field would actually be Georgia. It feels the most vote-friendly of all the ballads.

If I were to rank them based on how well I think they'd do then:

01. Belarus
02. Georgia
03. France
04. Finland
05. Switzerland
06. Albania
07. United Kingdom
08. Germany

Good old Germany, saving us from last place once again! Albania will probably rise after the revamp.

We're nearing the halfway point in terms of confirmed songs and about to have two weeks of averaging a few songs a day so it seems like a good time to re-up this thread.

I'm gonna be mega obvious at this point and say at that Italy would win out of all these selected songs (in their current state) but it wouldn't be the landslide that some reckon it would be. Latvia, Belarus and France would be in the mix below Italy and of the glut of female ballads I'd probably say Denmark and Georgia would do the best out of them.

I agree Italy would win in this field of 19, Georgia and Belarus completing the top 3.

It's bloody terrible so far isn't it? I think the UK would do better than a lot of you are predicting though. I'd go for...

01 Italy
02 Latvia
03 Belarus
04 Poland
05 United Kingdom
06 Switzerland
07 Finland
08 Albania
09 France
10 Denmark
11 Moldova
12 Georgia
13 Hungary
14 Ukraine
15 Cyprus
16 Austria
17 Malta
18 Spain
19 Germany
20 Slovenia

That Slovenian entry is one of the worst I've heard in years. Horrendous. I won't be surprised if none of Switzerland, Finland, Albania, Denmark, Moldova, Georgia, Hungary, Cyprus, Austria, Malta and Slovenia qualify. Not that that particularly helps the UK, but I do think we'll finish above Ukraine, Spain and Germany at least...
