Wow I'm surprised only three of us got the second theme. I thought it was fairly obvious once you had a list of the songs in front of you!
I knew I'd done well so I'm happy with my second place finish, well done to Chris though for getting all the tracks. Great quiz Julian

I did much better than anticipated, happy with 4th (and just into triple figures too) and thanks for putting this together Julian - really fun quiz.
I thought it was Chumbawamba based on the chord progression but it sounded so different to the intro I know, so I didn't even put it as a guess. Would've been wise to take a punt as I just left it blank in the end! The song titles not appearing in the song's lyrics as a genius theme and obvious when you know it. Can't believe I missed it! Yay - finally a win for me!
Pure dumb luck getting the Smells Like Teen Spirit song as covering both themes haha!! Second theme seems so obvious now but stared blankly at the list for ages. Thanks for hosting

There have been a couple of top 10 hits this year whose lyrics don't contain the title or any variant/part of it, namely Polo G's 'RAPSTAR' and Kanye West's 'Hurricane'. (I think those are the only ones after a skim through the Wikipedia article of 2021 top 10 hits!)

Thanks Bré! If I did this again I’d probably replace that dodgy Chumbawumba clip with the Polo G intro to have something more current. “Hurricane” wouldn’t have worked as it goes almost straight into the vocals.

I couldn't get past the feeling that so many of them had remarkable/award winning videos (especially Around the World which I adore
 ) that I just couldn't think of anything else for the second theme - even though I knew it wasn't correct.

Ah, those are both brilliant connections! I should've been able to figure out the premature deaths one, but impressed with anyone who got either or both. Congrats Chris for winning!

Oh I didn't do too badly in this in the end (mostly due to fluking it a bit- but I'll take it), you were VERY generous with my answer for 10. I think I do remember that 2Pac sample now but all I could hear was the original in that clip. : (
Glad I got at least 1 of the themes but kinda kicking myself for not getting the other. Anyway, thank u for running and hosting this quiz Julian! |
