Cheryl is now no2 on iTunes although she is also no3 so looking highly likely she will be no1 but I'd love Ed Sheeran to take the crown.

Not me neither. I think she's pretty untalented to be honest and doesn't deserve to be no1.

Posted by: *Ben* Nov 4 2014, 01:15 PM

I Don't Care is a pretty decent track by her, I quite like it personally, but I think it's the kind of song that I will be bored of after 2-3 weeks.

Posted by: SavenSeize's Cat Nov 4 2014, 01:17 PM

two shoo-ins for #1 and little chance of getting many interesting new entries (I'd hope for Henry Krinkle to at least make #41 so it can get played on the chart show, but chances are it'll be around 10 places lower). dull week ahoy~

She's falling hard on iTunes and he has like 16k for streaming... She will have 2k? She's very weak there. I guess he will win at the end.

After saying that, she's had quite a rise on streaming, I think her fans will multi stream for her. And her lead is still quite significant on iTunes. I think she will have an easy #1, but it could be quite a fall in its second week.

Correction: the clean version is falling hard on iTunes. As expected. The explicit version is gaining lots, however.

The explicit isn't gaining enough to offset the losses by the clean version though.

Really hoping Ed will hold on this week. Given the rate at which Cheryl is starting to fall, I think Ed will put up a good fight.

Hayzayy's compared I Don't Care to Crazy Stupid Love at this point in the week over in the GA forum, it's around the same point in terms of Kworb numbers. I can definitely see her keeping #1.

But this time round streaming is a much bigger factor against her and could potentially offset her lead as the week goes on and Ed starts outselling her (Which I think he'll start doing late tomorrow/early Thursday, giving him about 3-4 days to close the gap).

Crazy Stupid Love wasn't off #1 until Thursday at least so I can see this being ahead combined until then at least. Streaming is bigger but Rude still had huge streams and higher sales too than Ed will be getting.

Posted by: girl_from_oz Nov 4 2014, 03:05 PM

Expect Taylor to fall quite a few places in the singles chart because of the removal of Shake It Off from pretty much every streaming service

MAGIC!'s streaming was HUGE at the time too though. They had 12k of streaming (Cheryl had 4k) and Cheryl still had a 11k lead over them in the end.

Posted by: Joe. Nov 4 2014, 03:09 PM

Also, CSL got off to a MUCH quicker and stronger start than IDC.

But saying that I think both versions of the songs together will balance out eventually. Even if she loses her overall lead tomorrow, which she Still comfortably has, I still think the front-loaded start will save her. I can't see her missing her 5th #1

But "I Don't Care" is going to get less sales than "Crazy Stupid Love" as well, so that evens it out. And I'm sure Ed's streaming is stronger than "Rude"? Plus, Ed has the #1 benefit and CSL went to #1 right away where as IDC took a little while to get to #1 combined.

This sounds about right to me. The Tuesday mids are known for having some errors in. I won't write her off until I see tomorrow's figures ~

Posted by: Hayzayy Nov 4 2014, 03:19 PM

It doesn't sound too wrong, that means he's sold like 0.75 of Cheryl on Sunday and Monday, including streaming.

Sales are weirdly low though. In comparaison, same update for CSL release week :
1 Cheryl Cole feat. Tinie Tempah - Crazy Stupid Love (66.3k) *
2 MAGIC! - Rude (44.7k) *

"I Don't Care" climbed to #1 (didn't get to #1 until around mid-sunday), plus Ed's streaming is a lot stronger so I guess that's why he's only 6k behind? Also Ed has a second version at #49 and I'm not sure if people have been including that version when doing the combined updates of Cheryl vs Ed (It's another 7% to add to Ed's total).

Also, I think you guys are overlooking Amazon. Cheryl is #4 + #43 compared to Ed at #2 + #25, so Ed is outselling her there to help make up for Cheryl's lead on iTunes. I believe CSL was #1 on amazon MP3.

Id be shocked if Cheryl is only on 24k in the first mids there must be data missing she had 2 entries in the top 5 on itunes and over 50% lead alot of the time huh.gif I thought it would have been on as high as 50k by the first mids(heavily upfront heavy sales) and sell 105k or something.

If she is ONLY on 24k she wont be No1 by Sunday!

Posted by: CherylStyles Nov 4 2014, 03:22 PM

Amazon has a muuuuch lower proportion of sales than iTunes, it's not gonna make a huge difference.

It does seem very low - Ed's streaming is being overestimated a bit here, it's gonna be huge but not enough to make up for Cheryl selling not too far off double of him on iTunes at one point. Fairly sure one version is missing from the total, a la The Vamps a few weeks ago only being #34 or so on Tuesday with Oh Cecilia, as the single version was missed out.

Fairly sure one version is missing from the total, a la The Vamps a few weeks ago only being #34 or so on Tuesday with Oh Cecilia, as the single version was missed out.

Amazon MP3 had a 22% market share in 2013 and it's been growing year on year since around 2009, so it's significant enough to make a decent impact on the charts, especially in a week where it looks to be quite close. The sales on Amazon MP3 could mean the difference between Cheryl getting #1 or #2.

Itll be a great chart battle at any rate IF the 24k turns out to be Cheryls total Tues mids figure. I was expecting her to be double that tbf. The point i was trying to make was that streaming is becoming bigger each week it seems.

If the second version is missing we could add an extra 50% sales to Cheryl, that would put her around 36k and would sound about right.

Yes, and I think there are a lot of missing streaming data too. Tuesday's mids are always a bit vague, the pre-ordered tracks have always a bit of a flying start and they drop on sales by the following days. Joss Stone, James Blunt are both top 40 while they weren't in the iTunes top 40 at all Sunday and Monday.

As Martin said, the song is 'When I Found Love Again' and is the first single from his re-release of 'Moon Landing' album which is out next week.

Hoping Calvin Harris can stay Number 1 in the album charts, but I think he'll have to settle for Number 2 unless he can consistently sell throughout the week.

Posted by: PeaceMob Nov 4 2014, 03:46 PM

Hope Cheryl and Calvin Harris can hold on, I think Cheryl probably will but not so sure about Calvin.

Posted by: Hayzayy Nov 4 2014, 03:48 PM

I love some maths! wub.gif

So basically we have:

Tuesday Update Top 40 Only
Singles
1 Cheryl (24.6k) * 100%
4 John Legend (10.5k) 43%

Last night (around midnight), this was the breakdown on iTunes :
Cheryl - I Don't Care 0.9751
Cheryl - I Don't Care 0.5710
John Legend - All of Me 0.3855

When combined and weighted we get :
Cheryl - I Don't Care 100%
John Legend - All of Me 25%

It is hard to believe "All of me" is really 43% on Cheryl in the midweeks considering :
* it was only 25% on Cheryl on iTunes at its peak (ie 24 hours after the performance)
* "All of me" only re-appeared up the charts on Sunday evening after the X Factor, while Cheryl had already the whole day of Sunday selling lots (so basically it's like saying Cheryl had 2 full days of selling while John Legend only had one full day).

So yes, it is quite obvious the second version hasn't been counted in today's update.

Posted by: mr_aly Nov 4 2014, 04:02 PM

I wouldn't mind seeing Cheryl miss #1 with this to be honest, I have really gone off it.

If it had a better chorus it'd be a pretty damn solid pop song, the rest of it is good (if cheaply produced as per usual).

a 6k lead is something that might happen on Friday's midweek For Cheryl and Ed might be close to overtaking/overtake at the end of the week. But I can't see it being this close already in the first midweek.

Posted by: { bré } Nov 4 2014, 04:07 PM

I'd love to believe Cheryl is just flopping but it does look like she's just missing a bunch of sales. Presumably no issue with Calvin though, very surprised at how small his lead is - I wasn't expecting 'Motion' to do massive numbers but I thought it'd be a safe #1, yet it's looking very much like Ed will be back at #1 at this rate.

I was expecting 45-50k for Calvin this week. I think that's about the same as what 18 Months opened with.

Posted by: ScoobyDoo Nov 4 2014, 04:10 PM

Ouch at Fuse being #21

Albums

1 Calvin Harris (14.4k) *
2 Ed Sheeran (12.6k)
3 Taylor Swift (9.3k)

Surely this must be wrong? I expected Calvin to at least be on around 20,000 by now and I thought he would comfortably be number one this week sad.gif

Posted by: iain Nov 4 2014, 04:13 PM

That's going to be a huge drop for Taylor. I imagine it will be a steady seller through Christmas though.

Posted by: MrIndependent Nov 4 2014, 04:16 PM

There have to be sales missing for Cheryl.

14,400 for Calvin in albums is a bit crap, isn't it? How much did 18 Months sell in its opening day? I remember it sold 54k in its opening week, and I know Motion didn't have high pre-orders but it doesn't seem like it will reach the opening figure of 18 Months.

Posted by: Rob S Nov 4 2014, 04:16 PM

A bit odd also for Animals and Take Me To Church to be outside the top 40 when are both top 20 on streaming atm.

I can see Blunt doing what Trains latest track did. Be top 40 on Tuesdays mids then drop out.

Cheryl doesn't have a good live vocal so always mimes so that she can put on a good show. She's never sung live on a big show like this unless she's accompanied by Girls Aloud. I don't know why it's still so shocking to everybody!

Cheryl may just miss the #1 spot seeing 5k copies in front. And Legend is #4, assuming it's All Of Me. I assume this and the following were performed on X Factor or something?

Open Wide was 10 or so places higher than its stream inc. position so no wonder, since these songs often catch up with streams (like Stay High, Sail, Riptide etc.).

I always thought explicit or main versions were more popular. Look at the Clean version of Anaconda YT views to the original.

No because the explicit version wasn't the main single release. It was released in an EP

We have a source for the mids and the summary is just typed up. Mikey usually only includes the artists in the summary for... some reason. The titles always get edited in shortly after posting and the following mids are just copy and pasted from the previous ones.

The reason I don't add the titles is for me to get the mids out quicker for members to read, it was always done like this in the past, typing the titles can make things a lot more slower.

All members have to do is visit the iTunes topic to see the song titles if necessary, its hardly rocket science. tongue.gif

Sales are usually quite low around this time of year with the build up to Christmas from what I remember.

A 17.6k lead for Cheryl then. With 4 days left for Ed, I'm not sure he can do it unless he really gains a decent lead in the next day or so. He should be outselling her overall currently though, so will be interesting to see how he does for the rest of the week.

Oh I had it in my mind that 'Crazy Stupid Love' only just passed 100k, whoops. Well, 'Crazy Stupid Love' is the better song so yay I guess (both are among the worst #1s of the year but 'Crazy Stupid Love' is at least tolerable). 'I Don't Care' to be her first #1 to not hit 100k? Though it possibly still could get there.

I think the Gareth Malone thing will probably be a contender for #1 as well after how popular 'Wherever You Are' and 'Sing' proved to be (the latter only after a bit of TV exposure but then there has been some TV show about 'Wake Me Up' as well hasn't there?) I haven't heard this version but I'm still sick of the original, can't believe it's getting the cover treatment already when the original is still barely off the airwaves.

EDIT: Especially what with it being the CIN single. I somehow completely forgot that part of it.

Avicii ha impact ha ikonec legacy

haven't heard the Gareth Malone cover anyway but not expecting it to be brilliant anyway as I didn't like Wherever You Are or Sing. forgot it was out as soon as next week anyway, that could be a challenger. I imagine the John Lewis ad song will do v. well too though especially if they get someone popular to do it.

Was yesterday the only point at which Happy dropped the 40? I know it has been at #40 once on both off. chart an SO chart (on different weeks laugh.gif)

EDIT: Damn why doesn't BJ support nested quotes? The quote doesn't make sense to anyone reading them and they would have to read the thread laugh.gif but I always complain at tiny things you all know far too well sad.gif

If we're complaining at minor things, is there any way you could please, please, please do your posts in a slightly darker colour? I find that lilac colour very hard ro read amongst all the grey-blue on the main Buzzjack layout.

Cheryl only lost 1,2k in today's midweeks, that's looking good.
Still 16,4k to catch up for Ed in 3 days.

I'm surprised Ed gained on her considering she kept her iTunes lead all throughout yesterday but then it is a rolling chart, and streaming is a factor. This week is basically CSL 2.0.

She's likely to sell less over the last few days though and older songs usually sell more over the weekend.

Looks like the top 3 are confirmed for Sunday. I really hope All Of Me doesn't re-enter the top 5. It's been long enough in the top 40 anyway. It'll probably end at #5 at least biggrin.gif

I would be very surprised to see Ed knocking Cheryl off now, even with streaming included. I imagine I Don't Care will have a similar chart run to Crazy Stupid Love, if not dropping at a quicker rate. Only time will tell I suppose. It will get Cheryl her chart record which is probably the main thing her record label care about.

Posted by: gavindeejay Nov 6 2014, 03:47 PM

I can't believe there's only 42 copies between Calvin & Ed in the albums. ohmy.gif Looks like Ed sadly has the number 1 album in the bag then. sad.gif

Good to see 'Outside' scrape in the Top 10 singles though, hopefully it'll end up at around Number 8/9 on Sunday.

Posted by: Envoirment Nov 6 2014, 04:40 PM

I'm going for Cheryl on 76k & Ed on 74k. Although I would not be surprised if Ed managed to get to #1, as he outsold her yesterday despite Cheryl being ahead on iTunes all day and today he's ahead combined and his lead is continually increasing. Will be quite close I think!

Posted by: ► ▲ N Nov 6 2014, 04:49 PM

poor Calvin sad.gif was hoping it'd scrape #1 but that looks impossible now.

Posted by: MrIndependent Nov 6 2014, 04:50 PM

Michael Buble's Christmas is just outside the top fourty by the way. It's made some stellar climbs throughout the week and should easily be top fourty in tomorrow's update.

Posted by: Supercell Nov 6 2014, 06:18 PM

Surprised that Calvin hasn't had a more stronger lead all week but I guess people have decided to cherry pick Outside rather than buy the whole album, I can't understand why they showcased the song on youtube and then chose to release open wide instead prior to album release.

Really hoping for some miracle that will allow Ed to cling on at no.1 for a second week but it looks unlikely.

Although Calvin should have good weekend sales what with the whole club scene being intact with his music and simply people buying more albums at the weekend, Ed is a really strong weekend seller. I really don't see how Calvin stands any hope of being #1 at this point.

Not just a new sound but a new formula. I found this online yesterday:

QUOTE
Calvin Harris' new album, Motion, has 15 songs. There's a ballad, with Hurts, and 14 songs that all work in much the same way. Start slowly, wait for about a minute, then there's a big drop... and repeat.

The first drop comes at 48 seconds, in Summer. Then 12 of the other tracks build to a drop which comes in somewhere between the 50 - 70 second mark. Overdrive is a bit riskier - you have to wait for a whole 90 seconds for the drop.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?

He should have experimented with his sound a bit. This album feels like an 18 Months repack with a bonus disc of songs that fit within the sound of that era.

For what it's worth I do like the album but there's only so long anybody can keep retreading the same ground without seeing diminishing returns. The Haim track shows that he's not a one trick pony, so there's still promise there for future creativity.

I agree, it really should have just been done as a repackage of 18 Months. Just sounds like he is repeating what sold him singles and albums last time round. Getting a bit bored of the formula now, which is a shame as I know he can be more creative with his music (based off of the stuff he released before the 18 Months era).

Well Ella Eyre hasn't graced the top 40 for weeks so even the most ardent fans wouldn't be expecting her to appear in an update laugh.gif

OH that's why she was in the update? I had no idea, I was rather surprised myself I didn't think she was still relevant!

I guess it would be more likely to be top 40 due to the Poppy Apeal rather than Josh because as you say she hasnt been top 40 in a while!
